Growing UNDO datafile with small transactions?

Hi,
We're currently using 9i release 2 (with patchset) and have noticed that the UNDO datafile is increasing in size when it was my understanding that it shouldn't. We are performing a lot of DML (millions of inserts/updates) but commiting after each operation i.e. the transcations are very small but the number is very large. Why is the undo datafile getting very big in thos scenario and is there anything I can do to prevent it happening?
Many thanks,
Warren

After reading again ur post, i think my first answer is not adapted to ur question :-)
The Undo segment is a circular one so it will grow till he reached the last extent and after only re-write in the first one (if the undo-entries in the first extent are commited).
So the undo tablespace is too "big" in ur case cause u should have created it permitting it to grow big...

  • B2B Inbound File with Multiple Transactions failing

    Hi ,
    Problem Summary: When the inbound file is coming with multiple transactions (combination of 997 and non-997) ,
    If the 997 is the FIRST transaction in file, B2B is processing only 997 and remaning transactions are getting rejected.

  • Cannot drop undo tablespace with Active extents but no active sessions

    Hi all,
    I am running on 10gr2 oracle database in a Linux 32 bit environment.
    I have a corrupted undo datafile. I've been able to recover the datafile but still the alert logs is still showing that it is corrupted.
    Now what I'm trying to do is to drop the old undo tablespace like the one discussed here Change undo tablespace in Oracle - Switch Oracle's Undo tablespace.
    My problem is I have an Active extent but no active session corresponding to it:

    WHERE  a.usn = b.usn

      3  WHERE  a.usn = b.usn
      4  AND    a.usn = c.xidusn
      5  AND    c.ses_addr = d.saddr
      6  AND    a.name IN (
      7               SELECT segment_name
      8               FROM dba_segments
      9               WHERE tablespace_name = 'UNDOTBS1'
    10              );
    no rows selected
    but still cannot drop the undotablespace.
    SYS@ccasdb AS SYSDBA > drop tablespace UNDOTBS1 including contents and datafiles;
    drop tablespace UNDOTBS1 including contents and datafiles
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-30013: undo tablespace 'UNDOTBS1' is currently in use
    Regards,
    Tim

    Yes i was able to recover the datafile but the alert_log kept on prompting that it is still corrupted. The datafile's status is online.
    I want to kill the session/s contributing to the PENDING OFFLINE status of the rollback segment so I can already drop the undotablespace and so
    that the alert log will stop prompting for that corrupted datafile in that UNDOTABLESPACE.
    Can i Just alter the tablespace's datafiles to offline drop then just drop it. Then I drop the tablespace?

    Bhupinder,
    The problem here it is your undo tablespace, and you are getting this error, because Oracle is hitting these blocks to use them.
    You could try to create a new undo tablespace, but this measure is a bit strange, as obviously you can change the undo tablespace only without current transactions. If you can change the undo tablespace why recover the inactive undo tablespace?
    I would probably try to change the undo tablespace, and if that fails there really is no other solution than at least restore the entire undo tablespace. Likely undo is disabled in mount stage so this should work.

    Hi ,please advice me ,the filesystem that contantain undo datafile is lost while the database is was down for OS maintenance,now when I have to start database I found that undo datafile is lost and they can't even see it from OS side,how can I start the database.

    If you didn't shutdown your database cleanly and you have no backup for undo tablespace then there is no documented way to restart your database instance and you should contact Oracle Support.Yes,that is right,if database was not cleanly shutdown(with abort option) then actually in next instance startup will need recover and its instance recovery(must be perform).But performing instance recovery need undo tablespace,actually this is lost ,so with simple operations you can not open database.Of course the best way is report Oracle Support.However you can implement hidden parameter to opening database(_offline_rollback_segments).I do not recommend this way,just can try this.Before doing this you have to full backup database.

  • Showing Items with no transactions

    I am trying to build a report that will show us items with potentially incorrect item status.  Item status (on table itmmas) is either A(ctive) or I(nactive).  The report should show all Inactive items which have had at least one transaction in the past 4 weeks AND active items which have had no transactions in that period.
    My plan is to join the item master table to the item ledger table (itmldg) which lists all inventory transactions.  I can show the inactive items with transactions without a problem.
    What I can't figure out is how to show items with Active Status that don't have any transactions.  I can't get CR to return a data set which includes ALL records from itmmas but only those from itmldg in the last 4 weeks.  I tried this SQL query:
    SELECT itmmas.itmiid, itmmas.itmdes, itmmas.itmsts, itmldg.ilgdno, itmldg.ilgdat
    FROM {oj itmmas  LEFT OUTER JOIN itmldg ON itmmas.itmiid = itmldg.ilgiid}
    WHERE (itmldg.ilgdat>={d '2009-09-01'})
    When I run this query in MS Query and return the results to Excel, I get single lines for items with no transactions.  For these items, the fields from itmldg are NULL.  When I run this query in CR, I don't get any data for items with no transactions.
    Can anyone think of a way to get this to work?

    The issue that you have is that the WHERE clause in your SQL statement is only looking at an itmldg table field for a value.  This is effectively making your Left Outer Join an Inner Join, because when an itmmas record does not have an itmldg record, the date field will be NULL.  You have to add the condition "OR itmldg.ilgdat is null".
    If you want to return ONLY the records that the report is interested in (which should have beter performance), change the SQL to
    SELECT itmmas.itmiid, itmmas.itmdes, itmmas.itmsts, itmldg.ilgdno, itmldg.ilgdat
    FROM {oj itmmas LEFT OUTER JOIN itmldg ON itmmas.itmiid = itmldg.ilgiid}
    WHERE ((itmldg.ilgdat>={d '2009-09-01'}) and (itmmas.itmsts = 'I'))
      or  ((itmldg.ilgdat is null) and (itmmas.itmsts = 'A'))

  • How to get XLR to show BPs with no transaction data for a given date range

    Hi -
    I am building an XLR report that does a comparison of net sales data across two periods for a given sales employee's BPs.
    The report has the row expansion:
    FACT BPA(*) SLP(SlpName = "ASalesPersonNameHere") ARDT(Code = "ARCreditMemo", "Invoice") Group by BPA.CardName
    and column expansions:
    FIG(SO_TaxDate = @StartDate:@EndDate)
    and
    FIG(SO_TaxDate = @StartDate2:@EndDate2)
    where @StartDate, @EndDate, @StartDate2, @EndDate2 are parameters that define the two ranges of dates.
    The column formulas are, from left to right:
    =ixDimGet("BPA", "CardName")
    =ixGet("SO_DocTotal")      <-- filtered by column expansion for first date range
    =ixGet("SO_DocTotal")      <-- filtered by column expansion for second date range
    The report works fine except for one problem, I would like it to include BPs for which no transaction occurred in either date range as well.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Lang Riley

    Really appreciate your feedback!  Those are good suggestions. I should have mentioned that I had already tried both those suggestions.
    Removing FACT on BPA in this case ends up returning all the BPs and not respecting the SLP(SlpName = "aName") part of the query.
    Using **, i.e., * or #NULL, makes no change in the resulting data in this case.  I had thought that ** would be the solution, but it didn't change the outcome.  I still have BPs for which when their sales employee is used as the filter and they have no transactions for either date range, and yet they still do not appear.
    I should further mention that the IXL query, as it now stands, does return BPs for which one of the periods has no data, just not both, and I have verified that applicable BPs with no transaction data for both periods do exist in my data set.  It seems that perhaps the IXL query needs to be restructured?  Please keep the suggestions coming including how this query might be restructured if necessary.

  • Data inconsistency: posting with restricted transaction type (FAA_POST047)

    Hi colleagues!
    I have the following error:
    Data inconsistency: posting with restricted transaction type
    Message no. FAA_POST047
    Diagnosis
    You are trying to post in company code 1000 with transaction type 130 in ledger group 0N. According to table TABWA, this transaction type is limited. Nonetheless, according to your entries, you want to post to area 11.
    System Response
    Using limited transaction types is obsolete and would lead to an inconsistent posting in this situation. The system rejects the posting.
    Procedure
    Use a transaction type that is not limited. And, if possible, choose the ledger group and/or depreciation area on the initial screen.
    According to specific accounting we shouldn't post to one of the depr. area, so most of the tr.types are restricted to post to all areas except this one.
    Because of this, posting from MM with acc.assignment 'A' is impossible - I have this error.
    Any ideas how to solve?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Anton
    This looks like your transaction type -130 is limited to post only in ledger group-0N as per the transaction type configuration. Due to which system is unable to post all the ledgers and hence this lead to inconsistency.
    Please verify the transaction type 130- in configuration T code - OAYA and see if it is restricted by depreciation area (eventually allow to post only ledger group- 0N.
    Tcode - OAYA (Limit Transaction Types to Depreciation Areas)
    please verify and let us know the update. hope this helps

    Thank you. Cindy

    This is an iPod mini, not the iPod nano in your profile info?
    If you have not already, try doing a reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
    This restarts the iPod.  It is not erased.
    If that does not help, the next thing to try would be a Restore (as long as the iPod is still recognized by iTunes when connected.  The Restore button is in the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This DOES erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  If a software problem on the iPod is the cause, a Restore should fix it.
    If the screen still has this problem after doing a Restore, it is likely to be a hardware problem on the iPod.

    Hi
    In solar01 you have defined but you have to assign the test case in solar02 for this test case in the test cases tab.
    When you do so expand the business sceanario node in test plan generation of STWB_2 transaction and now that will appear.
