Guessing I should call Apple?...

So, I've periodically checked my Applecare status and upon putting in my Serial # was told that April 29th was when my APplecare expired on my iPad1. Just went to purchase the extra two years (since it's cheaper now than it was months ago) and it's telling me that I'm no longhair eligible. Little ****** about this..and I'm guessing my best bet it just to call Apple and complain. Suggestions?

Apple Care for an iPad is not a two year extension, it is a one year extension. You have until the day before your one year anniversary to add Apple Care and extend the warranty for the additional year. It you have a receipt that verifies your purchase date call Apple Care and arrange to send them a copy (snail mail or scan & email) to prove your eligibility for the extension.

  • Wondering if I should call Apple..

I'm having some trouble with my ipod. It froze when I went to play a song, and now it won't turn on, bevause it shows the folder with an exclamation mark. It does not show up in itunes, it does not show up in my computer, and I cannot seem to restore it. I can, however, get it into disk mode. Should I call apple, or is their something I can do?

The nice thing about going to the Apple store is that you can explain, and SHOW the Genius all of your issues/concerns.
In essence, if you have a problem via phone, they're going to send out your computer, after being on hold, and probably spending a lot more time on the phone then you would in the store.
If your problem is diagnosed within the store, the can either fix it there, or send it out there immediately. Also if you get ProCare, you can get a quicker turnaround in store.
But if your closest store is like 30 minutes, as mine is here in Brooklyn, it may be to your advantage to call and forget the hassle of trekking out to an overcrowded Apple Store

You should call Apple but you should get an email from Apple. I got one a few minutes ago and this is what they said about AppleCare+ :
Thank you for your recent iPhone 5 purchase at the Apple Store.
We would like to let you know that every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee.
We noticed you weren't given the opportunity to add AppleCare+ to your iPhone. If you would like to extend your coverage for only $99, please reply to this email by September 21st.
After that date, if you would still like to purchase AppleCare+ within the first thirty days of receiving your iPhone, you can call AppleCare at 800-MY-IPHONE or visit an Apple Retail Store.
Thank you for shopping with Apple.
    Sincerely,
    Apple Online Store Team

  • Working w/adobe cs6 - it now won't update adobe acrobat. Adobe found that I am not registered in a sudoer file and said that I had to call Apple. They said I should submit it to this forum.

I have installed Adobe cs6. After doing so, Adobe Acrobat will not update. I have been trying to solve this problem with Adobe now for 3 months. Today they say they discovered that I was not in a file named "sudoers file." They told me they could not solve that but that I had to call Apple for a solution. I called Apple and they told me that they could do nothing about it (I'm still not sure whether or not they even admitted that it is one of their files). They suggested coming to this forum for a solution.

Their latest is that my file is not registered in sudoers, whatever that is
There are two files named sudoer.vim on my drive (each in a different folder). They're text files. Both are very well hidden and the contents of either would mean little to anyone not versed in terms used in the text. What Adobe could possibly mean by "your name not being in the file" is anyone's guess. My actual name or user account name isn't in any of the files, either, and my apps work just fine.
There is another text file named sudoers (no file extension) that appears to be a list of who has sudo privileges. But again, it's well hidden, requires an admin password just to open it, and means nothing without knowing what to modify, or how without ruining the file.
Which kind of leads back to this:
    "Adobe Acrobat application was modified."
Have you run Monolingual or other utility that removes foreign languages from the drive? If so, you can't let it touch certain apps (like anything from Adobe) or you will run into problems like this. Usually, Acrobat won't even launch if pieces of it have been removed, even if those pieces are completely unimportant.
If nothing else, just reinstall Acrobat from the original disk or downloaded .dmg purchase.

  • Should i call apple for three broken ipods in a row?

i got this ipod touch from best buy and it just stopped working, then i returned it to get a refurbished one and it had sound problems, and then i returned that one and the one i have now has a touch screen that doesnt work. it wont press certain letters and it doesnt slide to well. should i call apple for this?

If within warranty (check using the link below) I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store or call AppleCare.  If not within warranty you may have to go back to Best Buy.

  • HT1430 I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3.  How do I update my IPad?  I have gone to settings, General, but I do not have the option fo update..should k call Apple Tech?

I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3. I open my IPad to Settings, General, but there is no "update" to select..should I call Apple Tech to have my IPad updated???thanks

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, you will need to update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
You can only update a device to the highest iOS version that it supports, which for a first gen iPad is iOS 5.1.1

  • RSD problem... should I put stock RAM back in before calling Apple?

I called Apple support today and apparently since I'm a few days past my 90 day warranty period I have to pay $49 to speak with someone about my Macbook shutting down before I can send it to them for repair. (***?! never had this problem with Dell... 1 year warranty, no hassle) Anyway, before I call apple and fork over the money, should I put the stock RAM back into the machine? I have a feeling they'll say "well your RAM must be the issue.. sorry, if it keeps up call us back and fork over another $49.

Perhaps my Apple-service experience will help you.
My macbook shut-off unexpectedly a few weeks ago while doing something completely mundane. It happened again at work a few days later. Thanks to all the chatter about random shut-downs on these forums I chose to call Apple. I booked my appointment online at the Genius Bar, Apple Store Eaton Centre, and saw them the very same day.
This was my first time at the Genius Bar.
Despite the volume of people in the store, the bar stools allowed me to get away from the crowd and focus on the task at hand – being processed. It was Saturday, so I wasn’t in a hurry. After a while, I was signed in and they took away my macbook. It didn’t take long for them to return and confirm that my logicboard needed to be replaced. Just like that. No big fuss at all. Just when I thought we were done, they noticed the stained palm rests. I thought this was normal – apparently not. Replaced. Screen bezel? Replaced.
I depend on this computer for my work. Giving it up is not an option. We arranged instead to have it brought in when the three parts were in stock. Two days later the parts were in. I’m lucky enough to have a friend who could lend his G3 iBook. Moving in temporarily was a painless task through the Sharing Preferences. As a first time mac user, this was an effortless experience.

    • Phone call: Your computer is ready.
    • Hours later…Phone call two: ‘Our burn-in test has shown a failure with a component connecting the battery to the logic board.’ Wonderful! They fixed that too. Being Friday, I wasn’t expecting them to have parts shipped until Monday.
The part – finally - came in on Tuesday. Although expecting the call – I wasn’t expecting this particular bit of good news. Instead of returning frankenstein macbook, they relocated my hard-drive and ram to a new macbook.
    Nice.

  • Should I call Apple about my battery?

    BATTERY INFORMATION:
    Age = 7 months
    Full Charge Capacity = 3914
Remaining Capacity = 3911 (Fully Charged)
    Amperage = 0
    Voltage = 12560
    Cycle 170
What do you think? Should I give them a call?

    Yes you should call them.
I showed my battery in an earlier post. Yesterday I decided to go ahead and calibrate my battery as it was time. I had installed the update and was not expecting anything special.
At 20% my computer shut down with no warning. I went ahead and reset pram and smc and charged the battery overnigh† to 100%. Below was the battery before I started my test today.
Apple is standing behind their product like always. Fantastic customer service. I think I was on the phone maybe 30 minutes total.
    Battery Information:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5521
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 5521
    Amperage (mA): 137
    Voltage (mV): 12622
    Cycle Count: 18
I set the indicator to show time remaining instead of percentage of battery. At 30 minutes left on battery it shut down with no notice again. As you see my numbers look great.
I talked to Apple on the phone today and have a new battery on it's way. I have to agree with the one remark the update looks for troubled batteries and triggers them to show up like mine did. I never had a bit of problem with my battery before. This was an eyeopener.

  • I forgot my security question and cannot call Apple Support to change it. What should I do?

I forgot my security question and cannot call Apple Support to change it, because I am outside the country and the only support number for that is an 1-800 number. What should I do?

    1. See my User Tip for some help: Some Solutions for Resetting Forgotten Security Questions: Apple Support Communities.
    2. Here are two different but direct methods:
        a. Send Apple an email request at: Apple - Support - iTunes Store - Contact Us.
        b. Call Apple Support in your country: Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support
            and service.

There is no other way at all.

  • Should I call apple for help or

    not even bother with it.
I went through all this hassle of telling everyone to use my aol email so I could get notifications of mail and adding my aol IM id on their buddy list so that I could video chat with them. However, the video chat has never worked or entirely worked.
I have the built in isight camera. Linksys router, I have messed with the settings on that to death. Currently the settings are as follows: static ip address, UpnP is enabled, I went though and added all the ports on port range forward.
I can get video with a friend who has aim on a pc, but I get no sound from her. We have tried yahoo to yahoo, aim to aim, and ichat to aim and still no sound from her. I have a friend who has a mac, and we were unable to connect to each other at all. His said something about being unable to connect.
I can not get Big Bang board games to access the internet either. Says firewall or NAT is preventing me. I have enabled every port on the router to try and get the games working and still nada.
My ISP says that they are not blocking any ports, so I don't know what else to do other than call apple.
I doubt they will even talk to me since the BF purchased the computer. He'd probably have to be here and give them permission to talk to me.
But there is no reason that I can see for this not to work. I do have a network setup with 2 other computers, but when I was testing it they were not using anything on the internet. MY internet speed test said about 3000 kbps.
I don't have anyone else to test this out on, my friends won't even try to connect, they are tired of working on this with me.

Well, we finally got it working. Thanks to defcom!!
To anyone else having this issue, if you have a linksys or netgear router: you need plugnplay enabled, no special ports open. Which I had, but what I didn't have is the mac firewall ON. That's right, it wasn't on. I didn't have to enable any extra ports in the mac firewall either.
My ichat would have worked right out of the box with the 10.4.8 update had I not turned off the mac firewall trying to get big bang board games to work.
If you look up all my post about this issue, you will see all the things I tried. The only thing I did not try was turning the mac firewall back on until today (thanks to whoever suggested it first and thanks to Tony for letting me test connecting to him and telling me to try turning the firewall on).
So, everything that I tested in the post was undone (set back to original settings...ie ports, the only thing I did not change back was quicktime. It was suggested here that I use below 1.5Mbps . Well it was at 384 kbps. I changed it to 1 and neither worked. Then I ran a speed test and I get well above 1.5, so I went ahead and changed it to 1.5, but this still did not solve the problem. But turning on the firewall did solve it, and I left the QT at 1.5.

  • I am having multiple problems with my iphone 4s, people can't hear me when I call, text messages don't always send, calls go straight to voice mail. I have all bars, have hard rest 3 times. I have called apple 4 times and gone to a store. No help.

I have had the 3g, 3gs, 4 and little if any problems. I made a major mistake buying the 4s. What a horrible phone. I must say, apple service is at best, BAD. Here are the basics. I am on the same network, I call the same people, I use the same text messages as I did with the 4. With the 4s, I will call someone and they will not be able to hear me. I have to hang up and recall. Or the phone just does nothing when I press call. Text messages acts like they send but when I go back the have been sent. Sometimes the calls go direct to voice mail.
Here's what I have done. Reset, did not help. Called apple, advisor said she would call me back in 5 minutes, after waiting for 5 days for the call, I recalled, they walked me through the same things I had already done, then said to take it to a store. So they set up an appointment for the only day I could get to it, 1 1/2 hours away, on my grand son's birthday. That was okay if they fixed it. So they hard reset it, we had to setup 4 email accounts, they would not allow me to restore because they said it was a software problem. So I had to download all the apps, lost a lot of data. No fun. But if it worked! So Monday back at work, guess what, same thing. When home and did another hard reset. Still no lick. Called apple again. They said they would replace my phone, all they needed was to put a hold on a credit card for $899 or drive a 1 1/2 hours to a store.
So anyone know a good andriod phone.
PS I got a email asking about the service each time and each time I told them what a horrible phone it was and how bad service was. I have yet to hear back. I guess they do not read them!

You're not speaking to Apple on in this forum, nor will someone from Apple see this post.   We are just users like you and I.
Have you tried to restore or reset your phone?
Or contact your carrier in re: to your sim card

  • Everything on my macbook 5.1 was erased and then the person who erased it could not find start up disc to reinstall. i called apple and gave them the serial number and they sent me leopard os 10.5 which is what originally came with the computer. not work

i was given a macbook 5.1 by my mom, being nice, she erased everything on it, but then could not find the original start up disc. i called apple and had the serial number and said that leopard 10.5 was the operating system that orginally came with it, so i bought it. when i got it,i turned on computer, put in dvd, and immediately shut it off, then turned it back on while pressing letter c. (they told me to do this) i can hear the disc turning but alls i get is blank screen then it shuts down, and restarts. nothing ever shows up on the screen. did i get a wrong disc? should there be something different than just the mac os x leopard 10.5 to get this computer to work again?? thanks for your help!

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

  • Reinstalled Itunes and how have 4 to 8 copies of all music (7,500). This has happened before, called apple, sorry you will need to delete each. question why does it happen and can it corrected without one song at a time

reinstalled itunes and have 4 to 8 copies of each song. This is the third time has happened over last 3 years. Called Apple, they state must delete extra songs manually, is there a quicker way and why does this happen. I have Iphone, can I delete all music and copy from phone?

Man I hear your pain, same happened to me. I never worked out a way of deleting all the duplicates and I'm guessing it occured as you imported your library more than once.
However it is possible to delete everything and copy from an ipod using different utilities out there on the net, try googling ipodutil as an expample, although I don't know if this works from an iphone but it worked for me copying everything back from an ipod into itunes.

  • This isn't a question but rather a warning to anyone using the new OS for iphone 4.  The imessage uses up your data plan like crazy.  I called Apple about it and they said no it's not doing it.  I called AT

The new OS is burning through my data plan like crazy and here's why.  Imessage uses your data plan and not your texting plan.  So every time you send a text message to someone with an iphone it uses imessage and it uses your data, not your text plan.  I couldn't figure out why I was burning through so much of my data plan so quickly.  I called Apple and they said, no it's not the data plan doing it.  I called AT&T and they said, yes, the imessage uses data instead of your texting plan if you are texting to another iphone.  Also, the new OS runs your apps all the time, even when you aren't using them.  So if you are not near wifi your apps are running and burning your data plan.  The AT&T guy took me through the steps to turn off the apps.  You can still use them but they won't be running constantly.  Seriously Apple, you should let people know this.  It does say it in the fine print on the website "data rates may apply" under imessage but most people will never read this.  So my data plan started on October 10th and it's already at 175 megabytes and I only have a 200 megabyte plan.  I've never used more than 50 to 75 megabytes in a month.  Apple get it together and be honest with people and tell them.  Quit denying the problem.  Most people have probably not even discovered this yet.  Wait till you get your bill.

    kimmie92592 wrote:
It's not really common knowledge because I've talked to several people today and none of them knew about it.  Also, when I called Apple they said no the new OS is not using data.  Totally wrong answer.  You'd think they'd know about it and at least tell people.  The people who are going to be hit by this are people like me with the 200mb plans.  I just think it's best to spread the word so people can know what's happening.  I still don't know how I went through so much data in such a short period of time.  It's not happening anymore though, not since I fixed everything up last night.
If you are using a free wifi connection, there are no data charges with iMessage.  But in an area where you did NOT have a wifi connection, of course it used 3G and of course you got charged for it (or had it count against your plan limits).
I'll ask again - without a wifi connection, just what did you think was happening?  How did you think your iPhone was able to magically send a message WITHOUT using any data connection?  A little bit of rational thought would have made you realize that there was no way, over a 3G connection (which is a service provided by your cellular service provider, NOT Apple), that you can send or receive ANYTHING without your service provider's plan picking it up.
Nothing abut iMessage has ever hinted that it can, in any way, bypass your service provider when NOT using a wifi connection.
