Guest Additions Installation Getting Failed

Hello,
I have installed OEL 5 on virtual box, however when I tried to install Guest Additions, it is getting failed.
When I checked the log messages it shows
Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux Kernel.
Specify the KERN_DIR = <directory> and run Make again ... StopI tried to install
yum install kernel-devel
yum install kernel-headers
yum install gccbut it gives message No packages available.
How could I install guest additions?

You may want to check the following for instructions to setup the yum repository:

I'm configuring Oracle 11gR2 RAC2 node server over RHEL5.5 on Oracle VM box.

Few months back, I had configured 11gR2 RAC2 node server without having any error, but this time I wanted to configure the same on different machine then I'm getting the above mentioned error.

Kindly verify that the clusterware installation has been done successfully with the following verification utility:
cluvfy stage -post crsinst -n rac1,rac2 -verbose.
If the output contains any error, try fixing it first.
And you can use SCAN ip in /etc/hosts only if you are using 11.2.0.1 Grid software. But if you are using the later version, you have to define the DNS entry.

  • Installation keeps getting failed on some CC applications

After performing clean install Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks), I tried to install Adobe CC applications back on my Mac couple days ago.
While other CC applications had been installed without a hassel, I find two applications that kept failling to be installed.
Audition CC and Bridge CC are the ones I am having trouble with.
When I try to install it, it fails at 3% or so. (It varies after reboot, but keeps failing.)
After I click "Retry" as the installation keeps failing, the progress bar reaches up to 41%.
Then no matter how many times I click "Retry", installation gets failed instantly.
The error message says: "Installation Failed The download appears corrupted. Please try again after a few minutes.(-60)"
I've tried installing them both on my iMac and MacBook Air, but the same installation failure occurs.
I've tried installing Audition CC and Bridge CC on my MacBook Air at home, but the same installation failure occurs.
I've tried safe boot. I've tried wating couple days. I've tried re-clean install MacOS X. I've tried changing locations. I've tried contacting Chat Support.
    The same installation failure occured.
I suspect that the problem is at Adobe's end, but I am not certain.
Is there any workaround for me to install Adobe CC and Bridge CC?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • VBox Guest Additions Kernel Modules

Hey, semi-literate Linux user/Arch n00b here. I apologize in advance as I realize that this issue has been addressed in this forum previously, but after several hours of hunting, I have yet to find a proper solution. I am trying to run Arch64 as a guest in VirtualBox (host is Ubuntu 10.10, x86-64 if it matters). I have the system up and running, but I can't seem to get the Guest Additions going, as the system won't build the kernel modules. This is the terminal output while running the installer:
Uncompressing VirtualBox 3.2.6 Guest Additions for Linux........
    VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
Removing installed version 3.2.6 of VirtualBox Guest Additions...
:: Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules [FAIL]
Your system does not seem to be set up to build kernel modules.
Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong. Once you have corrected it, you can
    run
    /etc/init.d/vboxadd setup
    to build them.
:: Doing non-kernel setup of the Guest Additions [DONE]
:: Installing the Window System drivers [BUSY]
    :: Installing X.Org Server 1.8 modules [DONE]
:: Setting up the Window System to use the Guest Additions [DONE]
You may need to restart the hal service and the Window System (or just restart
the guest system) to enable the Guest Additions.
:: Installing graphics libraries and desktop services components [DONE]
And this is the output of the log file:
Makefile:23: *** Error: unable to find the sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop.
Creating user for the Guest Additions.
Creating udev rule for the Guest Additions kernel module.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Guest additions for VirtualBox 4.0.4 are broken, in several ways. Try a newer build for them:
    http://www.virtualbox.org/download/test … r70281.iso
It's working OK for me, while with the regular 4.0.4 additions I had numerous crashes on my XP guest.

  • Errors installing virtualbox guest additions from AUR

After failing to get ose guest additions working in an Arch guest on Ubuntu host by (a) mounting the ISO and (b) installing from pacman, I thought that it would be an idea to use builds from AUR as these would likely to be more customised for Arch guests.
Installing ose-guest-additions-modules (the dependency for ose-guest-additions) worked flawlessly, but whenever I try and makepkg -s for ose-guest-additions I get the following error:
install: cannot stat 'vboxadd-timesync' : no such file or directory
install: cannot stat 'VBoxClient' : no such file or directory
install: cannot stat 'mountvboxsf' : no such file or directory
These directories do exist at /usr/share/virtualbox/additions/ so I am at a loss as to what is causing this to fail.
(It is worth pointing out that I am new to Arch -and relatively new to Linux- & while I am having a lot of fun trying to figure this stuff out, I am aware that I am probably missing something quite obvious...)

  • Build the main Guest Additions module Failed

    Hi all,
I am not very sure if I am in the correct forum here. My problem is I cannot install the VirtualBox Guest Additions 4.2.12_84980 on my Oracle Linux 5 update 6_x86_64 bits system. I followed the instructions in a tutorial :
    cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
    wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-el5.repo
    yum update
    yum install gcc
    yum install kernel-uek-devel-2.6.32-300.32.1.el5uek
These steps above all succeeded; but, when I run the installation as below:
    cd /media/VBOXADDITIONS_4.2.12_84980/
    sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run
    I got the error message:
Build the main Guest Additions module Failed
(Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong).
I have little experience in installing VirtualBox Additions on Oracle Linux. Can anybody pls give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Failed to install VirtualBox Guest Addition on Oracle Linux 6.1

I can successfully install Oracle Linux 6.1 on VirtualBox 4.1. But failed to install VirtualBox Guest Additions with the following message: Building the main Guest Additions module [FAILED]. All other modules installed ok.

Actually you don't have do install the developer version. According to the documentation http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html you will need to install gcc and kernel-devel packages. In case Oracle Enterprise Linux does not find the required packages, you either have to install them from a different source (e.g. DVD) or use Oracle's public Yum server located at http://public-yum.oracle.com.

    iTunes:
    AppName: itunes.exe
    AppVer: 10.5.0.142

That's consistent with another application (other than QuickTime) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on the PC.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • VirtualBox Guest Addition install failed

    +yum install kernel-devel-2.6.18-194.e15+

    And the log file reads:
+"*** Error: unable to find the sources of your current linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.. Stop"+
I then tried "yum install dkms". This time no error but it says +"No package dkms available . Nothing to do".+ Also, my /usr/src/kernels directory is empty. I dont know if this is part of the reason.
    Thanks for the help.

My Photoshop Elements 9 stopped working a couple of weeks ago. When I clicked the PSE button nothing happened. I tried this several times over a few days and it still failed. I uninstalled the program and re-installed it. It worked well. Then I tried to install the Update 9.0.3. The download was almost successful. When it was about to show 100% successful for the download, an error message said the installation had failed and that I should try later. I tried this many times over a few days and the same result occurred. I tried troubleshooting and the answers to questions, but I could not find an answer.
