Guide: How to rip and convert DVDs or other videos to iPod

Hi guys, we ofter met problems in using iPod, such as when we meet with a beloved movies we are in trouble to enjoy it on our iPod. Thus I write this document that shows how to rip and convert DVDs or other videos to your iPod MP4.
1. First of all, please download ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter at http://www.imtoo.com/downloads/dvd-to-ipod-converter.exe
2. Install it and open your local DVD by clicking "Add DVD Folder" button under "File" menu.

3. Click “Show Chapters” button to see all the chapters within the file.

4. Set output format: In “Profile” drop down list box, you may select output format. The software allows setting different output formats according to different files.
Tips: by selecting iPod MPEG-4 Movie format (*.mp4) in “Profile” drop down list box, the software will produce iPod mp4 formats.

5. Set conversion mode (Optional)
After selecting certain output format, the right column will show its general standard. By clicking certain settings such as 'Zoom', 'Split', 'Destination' and ‘Title’ etc, you may set it.
Please note: you can set "Bit Rate" by choosing the rate given, such as "512". Certainly, you can keep all the above options default without any change.

6. Start conversion:
Finally, selected the chapter you want to convert and start conversion by right-clicking the chapter name and selecting ‘Rip Selected’ under the menu.

After a short while, you will get a file that is ready to be played on your iPod. But how do you add it to your iPod? Here is the way:
1. Please click ‘Open’ button after the conversion is completed.

2. Find the converted file in the destination folder and pull it to your iTunes.

3. Pull the file list under the iTunes to your iPod. Then you will see the file name under ‘Recently Added’ list of your iPod menus.

Thanks! But when I visit the site recently, I found the program was upgraded. Now it has 2 optimized output formats specially made for iPod 30G and 60G players! In this presentation the left side the text animation are displayed then right side the our product video is displayed.
In this presentation i need the following option :
1, The first product video and animation is finished then the next product is played

Good luck. I tried to do this to cue sound effects for a theater, and never found anything. iTunes will definitely *not* do this, nor was I able to find any player that would play one song at a time in a single playlist.
In my case, I ended up using AutoHotkey to tie individual tracks to the keys on an external keypad. This was an excellent solution for my problem, but I don't think AHK runs on Macs.
One workaround is to make a folder, and fill it with *shortcuts* to the songs you want (ie, the actual files). You can change the names to start with numbers to get them in the right order. Then if you double-click on one it will play just that song. You'll still have to double-click on each song.
Might be a good time to learn AppleScript It would also be pretty easy to write a Java app to do this.

IChat uses better Video Compression than Skype does.
On a top flight Mac you can send a 640 X 480 pixel frame up to 30 frames a sec.
Skype can't match this.
iChat in Video is Peer to Peer. (you can actually Log out of the Buddy list)
Skype seems to borrow something from everyone's bandwidth to make connections.
What do you mean by Business account Tracking ?
iChat Adds (or can add) the First Name, Last Name of your Buddies and create an Address Book Entry
Whether you mark those cards connected with a company is up to you.
(I have heard of issues with earlier version of iChat and the Address Book that "saw" the Company Name as the part of the Name and linking several Screen Names to the one name
Audio on a Mac using Skype tend to be the same as the streaming needs are less.
However you have to rely on any PCs audio abilities from PCs which may not be to the same standard.
Mac to PCs in iChat and AIM can be difficult though. (It should work but it rarely as simple as Plug and go)
Skype may suit your needs better on ocassions.

Cant seem to figure out how to rip scenes from DVD's

I am an actor who is in some big budget movies, and I am trying to rip some scenes from the movies.I have read alot of the posts, downloaded free software, tried to rip it from my toast titanium software, but I am having no luck. I have been editing on iMovie but will be switching to Final Cut Pro soon. Is there any easy way of doing this? I know the DVD's are copy protected , but I am not trying to rip the whole movie.

what you have in mind is a two step process:
a) getting rid of the copy protection
b) convert DVD content (parts of...) into a iM readable form...
the forum manners don't allow to link to "rippers"… the most famous one is/was Mac The Ripper...- pulled from the usual download sites..- for legal issues. I don't know an actual download link... got my version when it was legal (in my area)... no, I don't share, even mentioning the name is a violation of German laws.. (believe it or not)
for the next step (conversion) you have many options… for a beginner I would recommend DVDxDV (free trial, 25$)
I am an actor so you do know the "moral" aspects of overriding copy protection... your agent should be able to get some protection-free copies of your work ... if not, fire him.-

What most people will tell you to use is the Videora Ipod Converter. It is used by a lot of people but since it is freeware it does have a few bugs such as converting a file and then the audio not match up with the video no matter how much you customize the settings. There is a program that costs $35 that I would highly recommend. It is called Pqdvd. The pqdvd comes in three different types, you would obviously want the ipod one.

This program can convert dvd's right from your dvd drive into mp4 format for the ipod and you can customize it to your own personal quality. It works great and is worth the $35...It can also just convert any downloaded video as well. Hope this helps.

yeh - xvid is an open-source fork of divx, and the quality is meant to better than divx4 at least, although I can't tell the difference.
mencoder is an excellent tool for doing almost anything with video - and the docs are great too...

Converting DVD's to put on iPod

Does anyone know of any programs, hopefully free, that will allow me to take DVD's that I own, and convert them to a format that I can put on my iPod. I don't like buying things from websites that I have never heard of, so if there is not a free program out there, is there a CD or something that I can buy from Amazon, Apple store, etc.

I am really struggling with some of these programs. I have tried a couple different ones and now I am trying Videora. I can't seem to figure any of them out. On Videora I am using the only button that seems to make sense, which is 'Transcode' and it does not seem to do anything. I would really like to take some of the DVD's I have and put them on my iPod, but I just can't seem to figure it out. If anyone could try and help me figure this out I would really appreciate it.

I just got a ipod video and i'm trying to put DVD's on it. I have been trying to download QuickTime 7 ( because I think that is the right program to convert DVD's to mp4 files, and make the files smaller to be able to put on the ipod, if it's not please tell me). So I download it and try to make it play the DVD's so i can convert it, but it won't open the DVD. If I am doing stuff wrong, or if everything is wrong please tell me what program to use and what to do to put the DVD on my Ipod.

Quicktime does not have the ability to convert a DVD.
To convert a DVD for iPod use, you'll need to use third-party software.
You'll first need decrypting software to remove the encryption on the DVD.
Then you'll need conversion software to convert the decrypted files into an iPod friendly format.
Sometimes, both of those tasks can be accomplished with one piece of software. (Before anyone mentions it Videora iPod Converter is NOT an all-in-one package. It does NOT decrypt DVDs.)
PQ DVD seems to be popular for Windows users, as well as ImTOO.

Do you have all the songs contained in your iPod also in iTunes?
If the songs/content of your iPod all show up in iTunes under Library and the various subcategories (music, videos, ...) when you launch it, then they are "backed up" already. Then you can just restore your iPod and re-sync.
If the only existing copy of the files is on your iPod, then you need to move them from the iPod to another disk drive. I'm not sure how to do that, except for iTunes store purchases, you need to use some other procedure/program outside of iTunes.

So I want to get my messages onto my computer (as in transfer convo's), but not willing to pay anything.
Because the messages are sent to my Apple ID (my email) is there some sort of way of accessing them ?
Frankly i think it's quite mean that I can't access my OWN messages on my computer with out having to pay anything, i don't know if this applies to iPod touch but i heard that people can download a program for them to read and transfer messages onto their computer for around $20
I also backed up my iPod, is there some place I can access them?
Or is Apple going to be extra and make me screen shoot my conversations to save me money?

Very very unlikely
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order
