Gutted

Dropped my C7 yesterday. About a 30cm drop onto a hard surface. Until this happened, it was in immaculate condition because I've always kept it inside a protective wallet, but unfortunately it landed right on the top corner where the phone isn't protected and it's dented the the steel bezel. I was looking around at the damage today in better light just to make sure there was no further damage, and I happened to notice that the front facing camera has broken off the main circuit board. This is confirmed by the fact that I get an error when I try to use the front facing camera.
I've seen photos of how delicate this camera module is and how easily it can become detached.
Unbelievably the 1 year guarantee expires around about now too, (will find out when I get home)  so even if there was anything I could do under warranty, it's probably expired anyway.
I've heard lots of stories of problems with the front facing camera on these phones, so if yours isn't working at all, then consider that the fragile connections may have snapped and module is loose.
Damn, right when I was hoping to get years more out of my phone and having persevered with waiting for Anna and now Belle, this happens. If anyone from Nokia or anyone at all who can advise me what to do I'd be most grateful.

Hi Bumblebirra,
We are sorry to hear about your recent issues with your C7.
You might consider taking the phone to your nearest Nokia Care Point.
Please visit the link for the location:
 http://www.nokia.co.uk/gb-en/support/contact/care-point-finder/
Also, keep in mind that you have 24 months of limited warranty.
Although the damage on the phone will most likely not be covered by the warranty.
There is always a chance that the Nokia Care Point will offer you repair for a small fee.
Best of luck.
Sincerely,
John_Tesla

  • Cleaning the guts of an HP B & W or Color LaserJet Printer

    Hi:
I currently have an HP4M LaserJet printer...it appears to have "died" after 20 years.
I have had to do meticulous internal cleaning of it in the past, when I toner cartridge would go bad, dumping toner into the printer.  With brushes, lint free cloths, etc, you could clean the inside of the printer, after removing a few items; e.g., the paper feed roller mechanisms, the fuse roller, etc.  The 4M's HP User's Manual showed how to do this.  If you take time to do it properly, ...and this usually requires several hours to do...you will end up with crisp clean printouts...no excess toner-speckling on the printouts.
I am considering replacing the 4M with one of the following HP Laser Printers.
    HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dne Printer (B & W)
HP laserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw (Color)
Am I correct that B & W is not striclty Black or White but also includes Gray-Scale like the 4M did ?
The P1102 appears to have the same (or similar) toner cartridge mechanism that the 4M did.
When you rermove it, you can see the gear mechanisms, etc....not yet sure about the fuse roller.
The Pro 400 printers look very much like the 4M externally, but I do not yet know about the internals.
The M251nw is a different animal.
It has a metal slide-out tray that holds 4 toner cartridges which appear to be "rectanglular" in shape.
Can this tray be  removed by the user (for cleaning) if a cartridge dumps toner into the printer ?
Is the fuse roller accessible to the user for removal and cleaning ?
I have looked through the M251's User Manual, and this level of cleaning is not covered.
It only covers "cleaning" like an inkjet does for cleaning the printheads.
Somehow, I would think that the user should have access to the guts of the printer,
since a Tech Support person would also have to disassemble the printer for cleaning.
if this information exist, where do I find it ?
    Thank you
    DaleBr

Colors are great because they provide you with color.  But the cost of ownership is a lot higher because now you have 4 color toner cartridges.  With the cost of toner cartridges hovering around US$130 each, you are looking at a cost of at least $520 in toner replacement costs.  Granted you won't be using all the toner across the whole page but if you print photos or images, it will deplete quickly.  Plus with 4 toner cartridges inside, the cartridges are fairly small.
Cost per prints for black and white hovers around 1 to 4 cents per copy.  Color prints cost around 8 to 17 cents per copy. But I read somewhere from someone worker for a company selling the toner it can cost up to 30 to 75 cents per copy for a full page of color.
So in a nutshell, it's very expensive to have color.

  • How can I tell if the guts of my monitor have been swapped out?

Hey y’all… I have an HP ZR30w monitor that I sold on ebay. The buyer claimed it didn’t work and I had to give the money back. He returned it but there are pixels burned out and spots where the colors are all purple and the case is all scratched up around the seems. The case has the same serial number, {personal info removed}, but I’m positive the guts were swapped out. (I took it apart and screws are missing) It worked perfectly when I shipped it out.
Is there any identification or anything that would indicate if the insides belong to the serial number on the outside?
    Thanks!

    Hello badamsios,
You want to know if you can match the parts inside the monitor to the serial number.
    Sorry to hear what happened.
The only numbers that are going to be on the parts are the part numbers, and they are generic for the part.
    Have a good day.

  • Gutting a iMac G4 and using Parts in Desktop G3

I am currently working on a iMac G4 with a bad Logic board(Motherboard), so I am currently gutting it to upgrade a Desktop G3. I've already added the Hard disk and the Ram, I tried switching the dvd-r(the G3 only has a dvd/cd-rw), but the G3 will not recognize the drive, I am assuming the drive is bad as well, but I didn't know if there was something i need to do to the G3 to make it work?
Also wanted to know if it was possible to switch the processors? the G3 is only a 400 Mhz and the iMac G4 is a 800Mhz. I rarely work with apples so i'm not sure if the sockets are the same, and not even sure if they are compatible.
I also realize that this next question is a not really possible, but I have to ask just to make sure. Is there any way to take the LCD screen of the iMac and use it as a second monitor. I realize i would propable need the logic board to do this but want to know if anyone knows of any mods.
Is there anything else that I would be able to gut out of the iMac and use for the G4?
    Thanks Sparks_Lit

Personally I would get a new board for the G4 than scrap it. If no 3rd party source for a board is found then OK scrap it. Back to G3 box.
    1. Check the jumper. There are 3 states; master, slave, cable select. Compare to drive you took out. If it is different change it. If it is the same? Don't know new to me.
    2. My 15" flat panel is driven by gforce2 MX. Since I don't have your G3 I'll do a thought experiment.
Put a gforce card in a jig for easy soldering.
HALT - experiment over because it requires blowing the next 4 hrs studying and google'ing.
good luck on display and I'll check-in on drive part of this.

  • Possible to gut a Mac G5 and use it as a pc?

Hi everyone, I know people ask these types of questions all the time, but I am wondering if it would be possible to gut my G5 and use its hdd, ram, etc. and house a new mobo/cpu in the G5's case? With black friday coming I was thinking about building a PC when I realized I have an old G5 that has a great case and ram-- so, if I could just keep the case and ram and hdd, it would save me a ton of money. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Dom,
    Yes indeed, it's been done...
    http://www.overclock.net/t/175131/first-case-mod-water-cooled-pc-in-g5-case
    http://build-its.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-fit-your-pc-in-power-mac-g5-case.ht ml
The RAM would depend on which Mobo you get, but the Drive should work.

  • MacBook Pro 13" guts completely replaced, warranty extension?

My MB Pro 13" has had its entire guts replaced once, meaning the logic board etc are all different from what originally shipped with the computer, and are a couple of months newer. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to extend one's warranty, as my hardware is technically different, but I have not received an extension? How does one go about receiving one?

    Boris,
When service is performed on your machine, Apple offers a 90-day limited warranty on the entire machine after the service is completed. If the remainder of your one-year limited warranty is greater, you would still be entitled to that. If you have the AppleCare Protection Plan on the machine, then it would still be covered by that if the remainder on that is greater.

Hi there, my phone was recently stolen and I'm gutted that I haven't backed my photos up on iCloud. Only my contact can be accessed. Is there any possible way of getting my photos back?

Often when plugging a device into a computer (which has not been discussed if this has ever happened) one will be given the auto play option of transferring photos/data from the mobile device to the computer. Did you ever transfer the photos from your device to a computer?

  • BW Analysis Authorization gut check.

    Hello all,
Just a gut check about how the AA strategy works.  Take this scenario when executing a query:
The following InfoObjects are auth relevant:
0PLANT:  Aggregated Data so only : is needed.
    0WHSE_NUM:  Needs specific value
    0TCAACTVT:  Default 03 given.
And then the following special characteristics:
    0TCAIPROV:  Infocube Z123
    0TCAVALID:  Default * given.
Now..if I were to put these 5 Characteristics in 5 seperate Analysis Authorizations and assign those 5 to a role with S_RS_COMP, the query can be executed.  Not our design...testing purposes only.
I THOUGHT that some of these characteristics needed to exist together in 1 AA, like 0TCAACTVT and 0TCAIPROV in order to work properly.  But apparently when the system is checking authorizations, it only treats each characteristic seperately and on it's own when checking the values.
    Thoughts or insight?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
To be precise, you'd assign your analysis auths to a role with S_RS_AUTH. S_RS_COMP is to give access to BEx.
Check out the online documentation from SAP on analysis auths. I did a really quick look in there and found this gem that should help answer your question:
In addition to these generic dimensions, an authorization includes special dimensions. These consists of the characteristics 0TCAACTVT (activity), 0TCAIPROV (InfoProvider), and 0TCAVALID (validity). These special characteristics must be included in at least one authorization for a user; otherwise the user is not authorized to execute a query. We recommend that you include these special characteristics in every authorization. You do not have to include them in every authorization, but for reasons of clarity and analysis security, we recommend that you do this.
So it seems that you need those special dimensions in at least one analysis auth to be able to execute queries, but SAP recommends including them in all of them.

  • New library gutted by rebuild

I imported about 10,000 photos into a more or less pristine iPhoto ’09 library (managed, not referenced) over the course of the day. I dragged each of several hundred folders to iPhoto one at a time. I tested the library and all photos seemed to be accounted for. I played with it for long enough to feel that all was working as expected, then backed the library up, and rebuilt as a general preventative measure — if there were any database hiccoughs in importing, best to nip them in the bud. If there weren’t, it should be harmless. Right?
But after rebuild, thousands of photos went missing, seemingly at random. By “missing” I mean simply gone without a trace from the iPhoto interface, yet still present in the iPhoto library package. For instance, of 4000 pictures from a single large event, only 600 remained. The backed up (pre-rebuild) library still had them, and they were easy to find. But the rebuilt library was gutted.
Does anyone have any insights into why this would occur or how to solve it? I find it disturbing to think that I cannot use iPhoto’s built-in recovery features without potentially causing serious damage with no error messages.

    Terence Devlin wrote:
First off, I’m glad the back up is working for you.
Thanks! But I’m afraid I don’t trust it at all under the circumstances.
I didn’t say importing, I guessed indexing going on in the background.
Ah. Well, same diff — it was well and truly done doing anything before I backed up and rebuilt.
Did you do this rebuild on the Back Up library too?
No, nor have I attempted another rebuild on any copy. The backup was to save me in case of exactly the kind of disaster that occurred — as iPhoto suggests when you tell it to rebuild a library.
You might have wondered why I rebuilt in the first place. I left this detail out of the original post. I wrote that all seemed basically well with the library before I backed up and rebuilt, but that’s not entirely true. I was provoked to rebuild by some misbehaviour. Although all photos were present and accounted for as far as I could tell, and everything seemed to be working, I did observe some problems with selection counting. I could reproduce the problem at will: if I displayed an event, say, containing 500 photos, and then selected all of them, iPhoto would report a wildly incorrect number of selected photos, about 1000-1500. The incorrect number would reappear consistently upon de-then-re-selecting. However, operations performed on the selected photos (i.e. keyword assignment) seemed to go fine, so I chalked it up to an indicator error — probably nothing wrong except the number.
But I thought it was a cause to rebuild.
And then the rebuild created serious problems!

  • [svn] 3035: * Added HTTPMultiService component - refactored the guts of HTTPService into a new

    Revision: 3035

    Log Message:
    * Added HTTPMultiService component - refactored the guts of HTTPService into a new
class AbstractOperation which HTTPService now wraps.
    * Moved concurrency and showBusyCursor classes up to the mx.rpc level from mx.rpc.mxml.
Partly this improves consistency and partly because it is awkward to implement them
with the wrapping design in the subclass. This does introduce a new dependency on
CursorManager in mx.rpc.HTTPService, though I think that should turn into a "runtime binding"
so we remove the compile time binding altogether.
    * Added managers, operationManager, resultType, resultElementType, properties to the
AbstractService and AbstractInvoker classes. These are used to improve the metadata information
on these operations for better tooling in the future, and to allow management services to
    tie into the service infrastructure.
    * AsyncToken gets a default parameter for its constructor so it can be used in MXML.
    * Moved endpoint property up from the MXML to the regular mx.rpc version to improve consistency
The blazeds RPC tests passed unfortunately I had problems getting the RPC tests in the sdk branch
to build and run so let me know if you see any problems on those.

the "main" class contains the following relevant codetip: 'relevant' code is rarely read, particularly if it's more than 5 lines.
about 75% of posts with relevant code, the problem is elsewhere.
create a new program with only those parts related to the problem
e.g. if your main program has a menu, and there's no problem with that,
don't include the menu in the new program. If your program has button,
and no problems, don't add them in. if just the tree, all you need is a frame and a tree.
when you do this, make sure it compile and runs OK (but displaying the problem behavior),
then post all of it here, along with the steps to reproduce the problem.
doing it this way should drastically reduces the lines of code, therefore greatly
improving your chances of a solution.

No that will not work. The iMac will not accept video in on using USB, or anything except Thunderbolt.

I have upgraded my iPad software to 7.02 and cannot play any media: podcasts , music or videos. Gutted as I am a month holiday in Indonesia. Tidied to contact apple but you cat e mail them. Waited an hour for a support chat session but nothing. Far from what I expected from apple.

What happens when you attempt to play such media? Do you get some error messages or does the app crash, or does something else happen?
Did you update to iOS 7 while away from home or before you left?
Did you do an over the air update or via iTunes? If it was over the air I'd be interested in knowing how much available space you had on your iPad before you did the upgrade.

  • Gutted. Yosemite Mail lost all my signatures.

Gutted. Yosemite mail has lost all my signatures. 100+ time saving replies and standard emails, that have taken years to put together. They were there yesterday, and now only the names remain, the signature contents are blank.
So I used TimeMachine to replace user/library/mail/V2/signatures folder, with Mail closed - but this made no difference. Mail straight away wipes over it. The files remain in the signatures folder.
I originally copied my Mail folder direct from the last system, overwriting user/library/mail. On first launch, Mail took some time to update the folder. So surely this isn't the problem.
Any help gratefully appreciated. Anyone else with the same problem?
