Gvfs-mtp mount path
I used jtmpfs for ages, but I much prefer integrating this sort of mounting into Thunar (like mounting USB drives).
Regrettably when Thunar (or rather, gvfs) mounts an mtp devices, it doesn't seem to do a real mount. There's no way to `cd` into that location, nor any real mount path. I can't open files with other applications (and lots fail even via Thunar) because it passes a fictitious URL (mtp://...) instead of a Unix file path (and most applications don't understand what to do with this).
Is there a way around this' can one configure where gvfs mounts this, or is this it's only mode of operation? I'd much rather see things mounted somewhere (eg: /media/...), and be able to right click> open terminal here.
Also, how have users of thunar + gvfs-mtp worked around this? Do you drag-drop files elsewhere to interact with them, or merely limit yourselves to xfce applications that support this url scheme?
Same phone and errormessage here, also using gvfs-mtp (works with Thunar which I use). Fixed it with the following:
- plugged the phone in and got the vendor-id and product-id of the phone using:
[root@arch-macbookpro]$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0421:0661 Nokia Mobile Phones Lumia 920
- created an udev rule with the following contents using the id's mentioned above (I found this somewhere on the internet, haven't checked if all parts are necessary):
ATTR{idVendor}=="0421", ATTR{idProduct}=="0661", SYMLINK+="libmtp", MODE="660", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1"
- reloaded the udev rule with
# udevadm control --reload
After rebooting the phone while connected to the usb port, and entering the passcode on the phone, I could open it in Thunar. Since pcmanfm uses gvfs as well I suspect it would work for you too.

Gvfs-mtp shows device, but doesn't mount it
I've installed gvfs and gvfs-mtp and when I connect my Nokia Lumia 625 to the computer pcmanfm shows the device in the Devices section, but when I try to mount it it says "Unable to open MTP device '[usb:003,011]'".
Any ideas?Same phone and errormessage here, also using gvfs-mtp (works with Thunar which I use). Fixed it with the following:

Drag and drop from Thunar gvfs-mtp (android) to application fails
So I installed gvfs-mtp, connected my phone with usb cable and I can work with the files on the phone in Thunar fine - well, almost fine. I can browse the files, doubleclick opens them without any problem. I can copy the files back and forth.
What is not working well is drag and drop files into applications. E.g. drag-drop of media file to mpv crashes mpv, drag-drop to vlc does nothing. Drag-drop of a photo to GIMP shows "Could not open" error:
Opening 'mtp://[usb:003,006]/Internal storage/DCIM/Camera/IMG_20150513_184133.jpg' failed:
Could not open 'mtp://[usb:003,006]/Internal%20storage/DCIM/Camera/IMG_20150513_184133.jpg' for reading: No such file or directory
Drag-drop of text file to mousepad fails too (the filename is shown in the titlebar, but mousepad is empty). Again, doubleclicking the .txt file opens it up alright.
Perhaps it is the "mtp://" in file's 'URL' that is causing problems? Is there a way how to circumvent this?
If I just mount the device by clicking on "Android" in Thunar, and then go to
/var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A003%2C006%5D/Internal storage/DCIM/Camera/IMG_20150513_184133.jpg
everything works fine.
What is the reason for "mtp://" stuff anyway? Why not just work with the filesystem, which is obviously properly mounted?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

I don't know much about it but according to this thread on the Ubuntu forums discussing a similar issue, mtp is generally rather temperamental. Link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2230932

Hi guys, I'm getting mad cause I can't have two android devices working properly.
My devices are:
* Sony Xperia Sola (MT27i) phone: recognized in Nautilus but the folder is empty. If unmounted and remounted it shows me correctly folders and files and I can copy them to my HDD, but I can't open file directly from the device (or better... Double click open the right program but it shows me errors).
* Sony Xperia Tablet S (SGPT12): not recognized at all in Nautilus.
I have to specify that before a fresh install all worked well.
Thank you

OK.I did some more accurate tests with gvfs-mtp and with jmtpfs. MTP with the phone works very slow and I see some file as corrupts, but it works; but tablet is not recognized by libmtp (DAMN! I used to move file in and out of it before fresh install! WHY?!) and neither by libmtp-git so i can't do anything.
Device 0 (VID=054c and PID=06ac) is UNKNOWN.
Please report this VID/PID and the device model to the libmtp development team

libtool: warning: '/home/yuri/build/gvfs/src/gvfs-1.22.2/common/libgvfscommon.la' has not been installed in
'/usr/lib/gvfs'

What is this supposed to mean? Should I ignore it?On closer inspection, there are many more warnings there. Like:
libtool: warning: remember to run 'libtool --finish /usr/lib/gvfs'
libtool: warning: relinking 'libgvfsdbus.la'

MTP : device monted, but bad size
Hello,
I've juste acquired a OnePlus One (great phone btw). But unlike with my old Galaxy S, the mass storage option is not available to transfer files by USB ; instead, i have to use MTP. I have followed the documentation, and installed libmtp and jmtpfs. When i plug my phone, i have this :
$ mtp-detect
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
libmtp version: 1.1.8

Then i use jmtpfs :
$ jmtpfs ~/mnt
Dans mon explorateur de fichier, dans ~/mnt j’ai 2,9Go d’espace et un seul répertoire, ~/mnt/Mémoire\ de\ stockage\ interne, dans lequel j’ai ~54Go. Même situation en ligne de commande :
$ df -h
Sys. de fichiers Taille Utilisé Dispo Uti% Monté sur
jmtpfs 2,9G 100M 2,8G 4% /home/guillaume/mnt
$ $ df -h mnt/Mémoire\ de\ stockage\ interne
Sys. de fichiers Taille Utilisé Dispo Uti% Monté sur
jmtpfs 55G 12G 44G 21% /home/guillaume/mnt
But sometimes i have weird outputs :
$ df -h mnt
Sys. de fichiers Taille Utilisé Dispo Uti% Monté sur
jmtpfs 2,9G -701M 3,6G - /home/guillaume/mnt
And when i try to do some copies (for example in mnt/Mémoire\ de\ stockage\ interne/ISO) with my file explorer (pcmanfm, i have also tested with thunar), i have an error :
fichier.iso : Erreur lors de l'opération de « splicing » sur le fichier : Aucun espace disponible sur le périphérique
rsync stays at the beginning (0%), without even beginning but also without error.
But the first time i have used jmtpfs, i have transfered 10Go of music all right. Since, it's not working.
I have also tried thunar+gvfs-mtp, but it doesn't work (device not mounted in thunar).Try go-mtpfs from the AUR. It seems to work better and more consistently than anything else right now.

Unable to mount exfat after updating: libutils-linux 2.25-3?
Hi everyone!
I have just updated my system and libutils-linux has been upgraded to version 2.25-3 from version 2.24.2-1.
The problem is:
after the update, I could not mount my exfat device: some errors occur.
In details:
1- The device is a Truecrypt encrypted usb pen and the partition is formatted with exfat.
2- The problem is not Truecrypt itself since I have no problems on decrypting my usb pen. The problem occurs when trying to mount /dev/mapper/truecryptx.
3- Since device-mapper has been upgraded (to version 2.02.108-1 from 2.02.106-2) as well, at the beginning, I thought that the problem was due to the new release of device-mapper. But this is not the case since the problem also occurs after downgrading device-mapper to the previous version. Moreover, on second thought, I realized that everything is with device-mapper for my system is luks encrypted.
4- The error message is:
mount: wrong fs type bad option bad superblock
missing codepage or helper program or other error
5- I am pretty sure the problem is exfat+libutils. Indeed, I have no such problems after downgrading to version 2.24.2-1.
Plus, I do not experience any of these troubles when mounting the same device on the other laptop of mine. The latter is again an Arch Linux system and it is configured the same way the former is (e.g., same kernel), except the fact that I did not updated it (this means that the version of libutils-linux is still 2.24.2-1).
6- To be honest, I could not try to mount any other filesystem (apart ext4 and btrfs, which are installed on both my laptops) simply because I only have (external) devices formatted with exfat.
So,
is it a bug, or am I missing something?
Thank you in advance for any comment or advice.
Best,
and-bnkStrange, my bug has been marked as a duplicate but doesn't seem the same to me.
Here are the journalctl and udisks outputs with the different version of libutils-linux:

[SOLVED] gnome / thunar won't automount MTP / USB
Hello!
I was able to figure out that things would mount correctly in Thunar when I did
dbus-launch thunar
but then everytime I start thunar with that the gvfs processes keep stacking and starting new ones over and over and I end up with like 200 of them running. so I guess how do I get it to just launch all of those once? I've probably broken everything trying to get this automount stuff to work...

I have (of course) but I find myself in a circular situation apparently. 'logind' is a systemd thing and as you can see from the above thread I'm trying to switch to systemd but am having problems. So until that issue is solved I could use other suggestions... -
[SOLVED] MTP problem
Hi There,
I have Lumia 520 and i understands MTP. ID can list files using "mtp-filetree" command but that is very brute and ugly method. I want to copy/remove files. I am trying to mount it but it is not working. I tried PCManFM to but that never vorks. Any idea what can I do to access the device ?
[root@arch64 sda5]# mtpfs -o allow_other /mnt/sdd1
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.

@firecat: your advice worked. I am using simple-mtpfs now and it works great. -
[SOLVED] DBUS boot problems - Mounting system devices as a normal user
I have the [testing] and [community-testing] repositories enabled. A few days ago, probably due to an update, I started having trouble mounting devices and the shutdown/reboot options don't show up anymore on the LXDE exit menu.
I use gvfs for mounting devices as a normal user with PCManFM or Thunar. The error message is "Authentication is required".
After some testing, I found out that by restarting dbus, I could start mounting devices again:
/etc/rc.d/dbus restart
So my guess is that there's some problem with dbus startup. I have it in DAEMONS of rc.conf, as well as .xinitrc, the daemon seems to start correctly on boot, and it worked previously, so I have no idea of what could be wrong.
My ~/.xinitrc:
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f

if test -z "$DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS" ; then
eval 'dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session'

Last edited by gamezelda (2011-11-08 19:28:04)I solved it.
The Wiki page for Mounting for normal users with PCManFM tells to create a "/etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/55-myconf.pkla" file specifying the privileges to grant to the user. The problem is that it does not include the privilege needed to mount internal drives (which was what I was trying to mount). To fix it, I added:
;org.freedesktop.udisks.filesystem-mount-system-internal
To the "Action=..." line.
(Though I have no idea why it worked before it broke, or why restarting dbus after initializing my WM fixed it.)
As for the power issues, I've concluded that it was working, but restarting dbus after initializing my WM broke it (my bad for not checking it before restaring dbus). So it all works now. -
Writing files with Eclipse over gvfs ends in empty files
Hello,
I'm using gvfs to mount folders from our development server. I'm accessing these folders directly with Eclipse. Everything went fine until the last gnome update. Now writing files with Eclipse ends in writing empty files, but there aren't any errors. Eclipse still shows the content of the files until i reopen them.
When i'm writing files with other apps (vim, gedit) everything works normally?
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hi,
I am moving from drive letters to mount points. To do this I plan to
add 4 1TB LUNs to one node of my MB server - these four LUNs will have NO drive letter.
Right click one of these new LUN's and create a mount point in C:\Exchange_Mount_Points\DB1, do this a few more times creating DB2, DB3
Move on the next LUN's and do the same thing.
Then add a 2 500GB LUNs for the Logs files.
questions here are
1. do you leave the LUN's for the databases assigned with NO drive letter
2. for Logs am I better off using mount paths same as above or use tradition drive letters
ThanksAgain, it's preference. We have several other drives on our multi-role servers. D is where we have our transport logs as well as where we loaded the applications, L is the mount point for both database and logs, H hosts our message tracking
logs, and E hosts our Internet logs. At my previous company, L was the mount point for the logs, and M was the mount point for the mailbox databases. And both of these configurations came from Microsoft consultants. So it's really up to what makes sense
for your implementation. -
Mounting a dmg in single user mode
When ever I try to mount a .dmg in single user mode using "hdiutil mount /path/to/dmg" I get no errors but I can't actually access the mounted dmg, it never appears in /Volumes
My question is how do you access a mounted dmg is single user modeI've run into similar difficulties. I don't know about 10.6, but in 10.5.8 the HDI driver appears to load fine. (You can check that with the kextstat utility.)
In fact, my 10.5 Install CD uses hdik to create RAM disks early in startup. However, the same calls to hdik fail when I try them in single-user mode.
