  • GW Business Data Provider Problem

    Hello everyone,
My company wants to implement SAP NG and we are trying trial version of NG 2.0. We have completed most of the steps of an RFC based GW consumption model.
We are having problem using and testing this consumption model.
When we first created consumption model, we get the URL:
    http://*gateway.contoso.com*:8000/sap/opu/sdata/sap/USERMAINTAINRFC/?sap-client=001&$format=xml
When we pasted it in a browser, it couldn't find the server. So, we replaced server (gateway.contoso.com) with our (GW) system server (like 10.xxx.xx.67) Then we pasted modified URL and get the required XML. Similarly we can get metadata of this XML.
BUT, when we try to send request via browsers(Fİrefox, IE) or JAVA we get this error:
    <error><code>/IWFND/CM_IFL/003</code>
<message xml:lang="en">GW Business Data Provider failed
    </message><innererror>GW Business Data Provider failed.</innererror></error>
We used below code for the request:
    http://10.xxx.xx.67:8000/sap/opu/sdata/sap/USERMAINTAINRFC/zya_user_rfcCollection
(zya_user_rfcCollection is one of the existing collections in XML)
We guessed that the problem is about the connection between SAP box and back-end system but not sure about that.
So, how can we fix that?
    Thanks.

    Hi Pramila,
Could you please check if your service is configured properly. Generally one gets this error when the data provider is not configured against the model provider . You can view your configiration in spro.
This is the help link which might be helpful which has all the configuration information
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_gateway20sp05/helpdata/en/a1/bdaae2b2a94dd5bcb987638f5337e4/frameset.htm
Further you may go to "Settings for OData Channel Service Development on Backend System".
    and check about your service.
I hope this will help you.
    Thanks,

  • Failed to fetch data provider data. (LO 26306)

    Hi,
We have created a webi report, which is having a date prompts.
The same webi report, we have used in xelsius using a live office connection.
In Xelsius, We have checked the box 'refresh on load', under usage tab.
When we run the xelsius dashboard, we are getting an "Failed to fetch data provider data. (LO 26306)".
Can anyone please help. why this error is getting. Is it because of prompts which are there in webi report.
Basically, our requirement is when the user runs the dashboard, prompts should be displayed. User will enter the prompts and based on that, dash board should get display.

  • Outlook 2013 - Calendar issues: Suggestions cannot be provided because free/busy data could not be retrieved

I noticed recently that I cannot see anymore free/busy information for my own organization colleagues.
I'm using Outlook 2013 (latest updates) upon Exchange 2010 (SP ?).
The suggestion DO work on my account using OWA.
Other users w/Outlook 2010 have no problems.
I tried to run "outlook /cleanfreebusy" but that switch isn't supported anymore in outlook 2013.
    Anyone can help ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I didn't say two but three places.
Actually, my wording is a bit confusing. In terms of where you go to remove them, it is indeed "Program and features" and "see installed updates". Now within there, I had the KB listed several times (3) under different products (like "Microsoft Outlook 2013"
and "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2013") and I had to uninstall the KB from all three entries.
Note that, as per Robert Sparnaaij (http://www.howto-outlook.com, http://www.msoutlook.info)
: "I’m aware of the issues but they are not as black and white as the article(s) suggest(s) and not that widespread either to do a general recommendation to uninstall
a security update. In case of the IMAP issues, they are actually wrong.", and "It was said to
be fixed with Path Tuesday for December (December 10) but unfortunately somehow the Outlook 2013 update missed the cut. It got published on December 13 after all but only was approved a little over 24 hours ago as KB2850061. However, at the moment, only the
downloads are available but not yet the KB article nor are they currently being offered via Microsoft Update so unfortunately, the issue will drag on a bit longer. I’ve just published an article about it here:
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/news/update-2013-12-ol2013.htm".
Lastly, "The KB article of the November update confirms that it fixes the Autodiscover connectivity issues with Exchange 2007:
If you are using Outlook to connect to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 mailbox:
You receive an error message that resembles either of the following when you try to configure Automatic Replies (Out of Office): Your automatic reply settings cannot be
displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.
You cannot retrieve Free/Busy data for calendar scheduling.
Add-ins that use the Account.SmtpAddress property no longer work.
These features rely on an underlying
Autodiscover technology. After you install this security update, Autodiscover may fail for Exchange 2007 configurations. Therefore, Outlook features that rely
on Autodiscover will also stop working. To resolve these issues, install update 2850061."
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to update public free/busy data. Operation Failed

After installing/configuring the Oracle Connector for Outlook
on Outlook XP and after entering a new appointment and closing Outlook I receive the following error, twice:
"Unable to update public free/busy data. Operation Failed"
Microsoft's website has references to this problem on Outlook 2000, but I am running OfficeXP. MS also references this problem amoung many Exchange server implementations, however this is the Oracle Connector to the Oracle Calendar Server.
    Details of System:
Win XP SP2 - Fully Patched
Office XP SP3 - Fully Patched
Oracle Connector for Outlook - (R.9.0.4.2.60310)
    1. Any idea how to fix this?
    2. Is there an Oracle Connector greater than the version I list above?

    Found my own fix!
I was running Connector version R.9.0.4.2.60310
    Downloaded version R.9.0.4.2.10.70412
The download seems to fix a whole lot of things. So far it has fixed my problem in Outlook! :-)

  • Importing Business Contetnt Provider .car file failed

    Hi Friends,
The importing of Business Content Provider (BCP) .car file failed in MSY. I have a crystal report which uses this BCP. I want to import the BCP first then the reoport but, i could not import the BCP. It is saying that "process completed with errors". I don't have the entry of this BCP in the MSY or in the table SMOBCP.
Could you help me to import the BCP.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Swarna Seeta

    Hi Swarna,
Import Export tool provided as part of MSY application is not very reliable i.e. it is very common to get "Process completed with errors" message while using it. Sometimes even if it gives this message, the entries will get inserted in the database. In your case it has not worked.
The best option is to open an OSS for SAP to look into it.
    regards
    Vivek

  • Oracle data provider not appearing in MS Business Intelligence reporting

Oracle Data provider does appear is VS 2005 server explorer but NOT as a data source in the reporting project type.
This is in oracle ODAC beta 11
    Is this supported?

I believe your developer encounters a hang when using the Microsoft reports wizard with MS OracleClient. I don't know why this is happening, but this issue would need to be resolved by Microsoft. They build both the reports wizard and MS OracleClient. They would need to identify what in their code is causing the problem. If they find out the underlying cause is a call they are making into Oracle, then Oracle will fix it.
Oracle builds ODP.NET, which I haven't seen work with the reports wizard query builder. But I haven't fully investigated why. There may be additional configuration needed to wire these together.
If you would like to discuss this in detail, you can email me at alex.keh [at] oracle.com

  • "External Data Refresh Failed" in Excel Workbook in SharePoint 2013

      Hi Everyone,
I hope someone can help me sort this out. I wasn't sure if this should be submitted to SQL Server 2012 or SharePoint 2013 but I think I have ruled out an actual SQL issue here.
I have a test SharePoint 2013 Farm installed on one server.  On that server we have SQL Server 2012 Standard (Database Engine Only) installed as one instance for SharePoint 2013.  SharePoint 2013 is installed as Enterprise.
On another server I have SQL Server 2012 Enterprise installed I have both the Database Engine and Analysis Services installed on that server in one Instance.
I have created a new Analysis Services Cube and stored in on that server using VS 2012 Data Tools.   I then use Office 2013 Excel and create a new Pivot Table and bring in that data into that workbook.  I save that workbook to my desktop and
can click on the DATA tab and do a "Refresh All" and the data is refreshed with no problem.
I then Save that Workbook to SharePoint 2013 in my Business Center documents library. I then try to do a Data Refresh and get the following error: External Data Refresh Failed. We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in the workbook. The following
connections failed to refresh: servername ConnectionName.
Let me tell you a little bit about how I have my SharePoint 2013 setup.
In Application Management ==> Secure Store Service - I have a Target Application Id setup with an AD account name and password.
In Application Management ==> Excel Services Application Settings - I an using an Unattended Service Account that is pointing to the Target Application ID that I setup in Secure Store Service.
Now in SQL Server 2012. I have made the AD account name and password a SYSADMIN account (because nothing seemed to work) and mapped that login to my Database that I created my cube from.
I have went into the Properties of my Analysis Server on SQL Server 2012 and out that AD userid in the Security Page as a Server Administrator.
Now let me tell you the real kicker here.
I also have a Sharepoint 2010 farm that we have been testing for about a year.  This is something we wanted to go into production with but now have decided we will deploy our new production site on 2013.
This has the same setup only I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 as my database for SharePoint 2010, and am using SQL Server 2008 R2 on another server and instance for Database Engines and Analysis Server.
I have already created a cube on the SQL 2008 r2 Analysis Server using BIDS.
I created a Excel Pivot Table based on that cube and save it to the SharePoint 2013 site.
I then put the SSS AD account name on the SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services Security as Administrator.
I pull up that Excel Workbook and go into Data and do a Refresh All and it works.
I then bring up my copy of the Excel workbook I created for my SQL Server 2012 Cube (this does not work on SP 2013) and save it to my Business Center in SP 2010.  This will do a DATA Refresh on that workbook.
Another thing that I have done, (we have Office Web Apps Server running on the SP 2013 side), is set SPWOPISuppressSetting -view -extension xlsx so that when I bring up the Excel spreadsheet in 2013 it has a url with the xlviewer instead of the WOPI
    url.
OK.  I have went through all of my setup.   I am must wondering if I missed something in my install for this.  HELP.   There can't be that much difference in the installation between 2010 and 2013.
    Thanks in Advance everyone.

After many hours of research and totally burning down my SQL Server 2012 server because of the many changes I made to it, I finally found the issue that caused this and specifically why SP would not work with SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services.  This
time I reinstalled SQL Server 2012 from scratch again but only put SP1 on at this time.  I can't be completely sure this fixed the issue since I have not put any of the other CU  on the box.  But, after the reinstall, everything seemed to work
perfectly from the Excel Services side.
The issue I then ran into was that I could not get my PerformancePoint Services to work with my Cubes that were created on SQL Server 2012.  I received Error Message " The DataSource Provider for data sources of type 'ADOMD.NET' is not registered" on
my SharePoint 2013 Server Event Viewer.
I finally found this post on the issue:
    http://yossidahan.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/cant-get-ssas-databases-to-appear-in-performance-point-dashboard-designer-check-you-adomd-net-version/
Seems that SP 2013 is built to use SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services, so you need to install the ADOMD.net from SQL Server 2008 in order for it to work.   But make sure you install Version 10 since if you install any other it doesn't seem to
    work.
I feel like I wasted a whole month tracking these issues down, and I haven't been able to test PowerView, PowerPivot or SSRS yet.  I hope there is not any more.

  • Data provider internal error(-3000)  during DataAdapter.Fill

    I get this error sporadically.
From other messages on this forum, it seems others are having similar problems. It appears the Oracle staff
is still struggling to identify and fix (or did I miss a post?)
I hope the next release can include some more informative diagnostic error messages. (no judgment implied, just a suggestion).
But I need this to work, so I'm posting my
info as well in hopes it will help.
Sorry for the length, but I think all the detail may be needed to diagnose.
I have been using ODP.Net for weeks without trouble
until recently. I just added a CLOB field to my table yesterday, and
the problem started. I don't know whether that's cause or coincidence.
    Possible workarounds I will try:
    1) Explicit select of columns rather than select *
    2) Retry once on failure after short delay
Below, I'm including the exception message from the ASP.Net page.
It occurs at the same spot in my code, but often
it works fine. Now, an hour later, I cannot repeat the problem.
I've edited the "Source Error" section to
provide more of the code, so you can see the full context.
I've also pasted the stored procedure called so you can see what that is about.
I need this to work, so feel free to contact me if you need further information
to diagnose this in order to fix it.
I go live on March 7, so if I don't get a fix soon and can't find
a workaround, I'll just make a lame error message like "Site is very busy, please try again".
Even though the site is NOT busy. But having them try again seems to work.
And I don't want to tell them why I'm asking them to try again <grin>.
I am thinking of putting a try/catch block and sleeping for a second and then trying one more
time in my code. I'll let you know if that is an effective work-around.

One workaround that seems to work is to retry in a loop.

  • Problem with PCo 2.1 and ODBC data provider

I am trying to connect MII 12.0 to an Aspen IP.21 data historian using PCo as the universal data server. Configuration steps so far:
    1) On the machine where PCo is installed, I have created an ODBC data source using Aspen's ODBC driver for SQL+.
    2) In the PCo management console I have configured a source system using the Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Drivers, and selected the ODBC connection that I created. I click "Test Connection" and get a successful result.
    3) In the PCo management console I have configured a destination system that points to an MII server. I put in the appropriate server/port/version/credentials, and click "Test Connection", and get a successful result.
    4)  In the PCo management console I have configured an agent instance connecting the source from step 2 and the destination from step 3.
When I start the agent instance, I get the red box with a white X in it indicating that the connection was not successful. When I go to the error logs I see:
Error     .     6     6076     RS1630IP21T01     Host     failed to create ConnectivityAgentProxy     General PCo Fault: The .Net Framework Data Provider for OLEDB (System.Data.OleDb) does not support the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (MSDASQL). Use the .Net Framework Data Provider for ODBC (System.Data.Odbc)
So, I installed the .NET data provider for ODBC to try to use that instead of the OLEDB provider for ODBC. However, when I try to reconfigure the source system, I do not see the .NET provider as one of my options. This is after a reboot, and starting/stopping all of the different PCo services.
    Any thoughts experts??

Install PCo 2.2 on a server that has network access to your IP.21 server, and that your destination server (and SAP MII server in my case) has access to.
    In the PCo2.2 Management Console:
    In the "Source Systems" section:
Create a source system of type "IP21 Agent"
On the Server Settings tab, provide the server name of your IP.21 server
    In the "Agent Instances" section
Create an agent instance, picking the source system you just created
In the Query Ports tab, under port type, select the type of system you will be communicating to. In my case, this is SAP MII, but you may be using something different.
Also under the query ports tab, you can enter enter a port number if you like. I just accept the default, which is 9000.
If you are going to "pull" data from the IP.21 server, this is all you need. If you want to "push" data to a destination system from your PCo server, you will need to set it up under the Destination Systems section. In my case, I am doing a data pull, so I haven't done much with destination systems.
Not sure what your destination system is, but in my case it is MII. For MII here are the basic steps:
Create a new UDC data server in the MII menu under Data Services -> Data Servers.
Set the IP address of the data server to the IP address of your PCo server.
Set the port number of the data server to the port number you set up in the agent instance.
Make sure the agent instance is started on your PCo server.
Create a new business logic transaction containing a Tag query, and configure the tag query to use the new MII data server you just created to query the tag(s) you are interested in.

  • External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. ThisWorkBookDataModel

    Hi All,
I have been trying to fix this for days now. I have tried solutions in many articles but to no avail. So while the error message is something you may have seen may times, I just can't find a solution in my case.
    This is the error:
And in text just in case the image isn't viewable:
"External Data Refresh Failed. We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model. We were unable to refresh one or more data connections in this workbook. The following connections failed to refresh: ThisWorkBookDataModel."
What is worse is I have checked the ULS (SharePoint Trace Logs), the Event Viewer Logs and the OWA Logs and I cannot find a specific error that would help pin point the problem.
    Excel Workbook
So what am I doing? I have an Excel 2013 workbook and I create an "SQL Server" connection to the AdventureWorksDW database, add a pivot table and a pivot chart, test in in Excel and all works fine.
I save the Excel workbook to SharePoint 2013 and then select "Data" then "Refresh All Connections" and then I get the error in the picture above.
Even more puzzling is I have another Excel workbook that also has pivot tables and pivot charts in the AdventureWorksDW2012Multidimensional cube database in "SQL Analysis Services" and this works fine. Hmmm.
    My Environment
My environment is Windows 2008 R2 Server, SharePoint 2013 with the April Service Pack1 and a separate server with OWA2013 SP1. It has an SQL Server 2008 R2 database which has been upgraded to SQL Server 2012.
    Data Model Settings
In Excel Services this is set to my server name which is "server-name". As I do not have instances all I can enter is the server name. As this works everywhere else including the workbook outside of SharePoint I do not think this is the problem.
    But I could be wrong.
    Unattended Account
I have set this up for the PowerPivot Services App and Excel Services App.
    ODC Connections in Excel
I have tried all 3 authentication modes, Windows, Secure Store ID and "None" which is the unattended account. I have not tried the other connection types, should I?
    Not in WOPI
I am not in WOPI mode.
    AD Accounts
I have added permissions in the SharePoint Services and SQL Server, and as they work in Excel outside of SharePoint, I do not think it is a permissions issue. I could be wrong of course, but the problem is in one of SharePoint, OWA, AD,
SQL Server, Excel, and Windows Server.
    Isolate the Error
Below is a list of errors I think are relevant but they do not tell me much. The SharePoint logs are not really giving me an error that tells me what to do and where to do it, or even why it cannot refresh, (perhaps not noticeable by the untrained eye).
Problem with SQL Server Not Analysis Services
So my cube database in analysis services works fine in SharePoint/OWA but not the databases in sql server. This is my best clue but I have no idea what it means. Why would it work with an Analysis Services connection but not an "SQL Server" connection?
    It Works Outside of SharePoint
If I run the excel worksheet outside of SharePoint all works fine. When inside OWA this is where the refresh error occurs.
Errors from Event Viewer on SharePoint Server using ULS Viewer
"Failed to create an external connection or execute a query. Provider message: There are no servers available or actively being initialized., ConnectionName: , Workbook:"
"Refresh failed for 'ThisWorkbookDataModel' in the workbook 'http://server...'. [Session: 1.V22.26itT0lx8piNFeqtuGVhN214.5.en-US5.en-US36.98c0e158-9113-46e9-850e-edda81d9ed1c1.A1.N User: 0#.w|ad\testuser1]"
And an error in the ULS under the "Data Model" category:
"--> Check Deployment Mode (server-name): Fail (Expected: SharePoint, Actual: Multidimensional)."
This last error, as it turned out, defined the problem concisely, although I was yet to work out what it meant in some detail.

I finally solved this myself (or should I say with the help of several key articles).
The refresh did not work because the database was not in "SharePoint Mode". Yes, SQL Server has modes, 3 of them in fact.
If you installed SharePoint to the default SQL instance which would be called <servername> then you cannot use this default instance for Excel 2013 workbooks in OWA 2013 because the refresh only works if the database is in SharePoint mode.
So what are these 3 modes? The Deployment Mode property in the msmdsrv.ini file has them as:
0 = Multidimensional mode (the default whenever you install SQL Server normally)
1 = PowerPivot for SharePoint mode
    2 = Tabular mode mode
How do you know what mode you are in? That's easy, open SQL Studio Manager and connect to all your SQL database engine instances (ignore Analysis Services or SSRS as they are not database engines). If you only have the default instance then that is almost
definately in Multidimensional mode which is the default and what SharePoint installs its databases to.
You must have an instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT. This instance is the "sharepoint mode" needed, and the default instance name when you install an SQL instance in this mode.
If you don't see <servername>\POWERPIVOT in SQL server then you are not in "sharepoint mode". It is more accurate to say, you do not have an instance that is in sharepoint mode. This is because you cannot simply switch modes on an SQL server.
You have to install a new instance in the required mode, thats the only way.
That's easy enough. Load up the SQL Server setup CD and run setup. Install a brand new instance and select "SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint" when you get there in the wizard.
Now you will have the default instance that stores all the SharePoint databases and that is in mode 0, and a new instance called <servername>\POWERPIVOT that is in mode 1. The "<servername>\POWERPIVOT" instance connection is what you
will use for Excel 2013 when rendering in OWA 2013.
You also need to ensure OWA 2013 is not in WOPI mode for Excel worksheets. See the last link below for more information about WOPI.
Next you should go to the Excel Service App in CA and click Data Model Settings and add the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance.
Then you have to either turn off the firewall on the SQL server machine, or create an inbound rule on the Windows firewall to open the TCP port for the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance:
    1. Start Task Manager and then click Services to get the PID of the MSOLAP$InstanceName.
    2. Run netstat –ao –p TCP from the command line to view the TCP port information for that PID.
Finally, you can now create Excel 2013 workbooks that run in OWA without refresh errors, as long as you are connecting to the <servername>\POWERPIVOT instance. Hooray.

  • An internal database error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service. SQL Error Number : 229

Recently i upgraded my SharePoint server 2013 to SP1, after the upgrade i received following message in manage database Status page " Databases running in compatibility range, upgrade recommended"
for Business Data Connectivity Database. Then i ran Sharepoint Configuration wizard, which fixed that error on that page but i am getting a error message while accessing BDCApplication page in manage service applications pagein central admin"
An internal database error occurred in the Business Data Connectivity Shared Service. SQL Error Number : 229
    Sys Log :
The BDC Service application failed due to a SQL Exception: SQLServer host WSQLD05\DV. The error returned was: 'The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'proc_ar_GetAdministrationMetadataCatalogByPartitionId', database 'sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13',
    schema 'dbo'.'
I checked the Db role of the service app pool account, it has SPDataAccess permission over the Database. i cant recreate another application without knowing the root cause. I hope i can get better option to troubleshoot the issue.
    Thank you

As per the error message, you can at least grant the BDC service application pool account the EXECUTE perimssions on the sp_BusinessDataConnectivity_DV13 database

  • IPhone 5 cellular data services failing

ISSUE/SYMPTOMS:  iPhone 5 ONLY: Cellular Data stops intermittingly, cellular data locks up without warning, Wi-Fi data connection not working on occasion, iCloud contacts, calendar and reminders not updating, Find My Phone not working, mail or Internet not available or server time-outs. No error messages though. All of these are symptoms of no data service. Problems seem to be related to iPhone 5 failing to switch between LTE and 4G or 3G data services on AT&T.
My iPhone 5 32GB AT&T version (iOS 6.0.2) along with my clients and family using iPhone 5 in the state of Oklahoma are having this issue on their AT&T iPhone 5's:  no cellular data connection re-established if at anytime the LTE connection is lost or weak.  As with iPhone's prior to iPhone 5, the iPhone 5 is supposed to drop down to the next tier of data service and re-connect to cellular data service when the higher speed cellular data service is not available.  Apparently this is not working well on the iPhone 5.
What led me to research this LTE issue was that my iPhone was not syncing on iCloud with contacts, calendars and reminders with my other iOS devices.  Other times this issue became apparent was when iMessage quit sending and receiving until I would reboot my iPhone (sometimes it would finally send the message as a “text message”). When I had these problems I also found out I was not getting any cellular data service for Internet browsing, mail, Maps, Find My iPhone, etc.  This would happen without notice. In other words I would not receive any notice or error message that data service had stopped other than the fact I was not receiving any mail, iMessages, or iCloud sync updates. My only resolution was to reset or reboot my iPhone several times a day, and that would resolve it about 70% of the time.
I have talked to Apple Support on 2-3 occasions in the last week and AT&T Support twice in the last 2 days.  If it is really true, only the AT&T Technical Support Advisor informed me of a nationwide issue relating to iPhone 5 and LTE:  iPhone 5's are not re-connecting to 4G or 3G cellular data service once the LTE data connection is lost or dropped... the voice calls continue to work, but cellular data service fails and stays locked up without an error message until the customer reboots the iPhone.
Obviously this is very unacceptable. We depend on these data services and at minimum need to know when it stops working instead of finding out from a phone call that someone sent us an important email or something.
The AT&T representative also said that both AT&T and Apple are aware of and are working on the issue as it is a nationwide problem with iPhone 5 and LTE. The Apple Support Advisors I talked to made no mention of this "known" issue. AT&T said that it is partly AT&T responsibility because the capacity of LTE is overloaded and cellular data connections are dropping because of the lack of coverage and/or capacity. They actually refunded my data service for a whole month in apology for the inconvenience (I did not even ask for that--I just want my data service to work).  But they also said that Apple has responsibility in this issue because the iPhone 5 should drop down and re-connect to the next lower tier of data service when LTE is not available or lost; instead, it is locking up somehow or it still thinks it is connected to LTE when it is actually not. I don't know how accurate these statements are, but my problem is real.
TEMPORARY WORK-AROUND / FIX FROM AT&T:  Disable LTE on the iPhone 5.  Or when you figure out that data is not coming to your iPhone, use Airplane Mode ON/OFF for a few seconds to force re-connection to a tower without rebooting the iPhone.  You can Disable LTE on the iPhone 5 in SETTINGS/GENERAL/CELLULAR. I have disabled LTE on my iPhone 5 and have not had any of these cellular data issues since.
Disabling LTE is not acceptable either, but it is working. At least I seem not be losing connection or locking up without knowing it.  In my office over the course of a day, my iPhone 5 will jump back and forth on LTE and 4G sitting in the same place.  Disabling LTE has stopped this and the problem, but the iPhone 5 should switch cellular data services seemlessly just like the phone switches towers on a phone voice call seemlessly (most of the time).
WI-FI ALSO STOPS WORKING SOMETIMES AFTER THIS LTE disconnect / lock-up issue:  That has been my experience along with my clients and family as well. If you use Wi-Fi a lot on your iPhone it will hide this LTE issue until you leave your Wi-Fi and get on LTE and then drop LTE (silently) and then go back to your Wi-Fi.  My experience has been I have to reboot the iPhone to even get Wi-Fi working again after that happens.
I do not know if some of these comments and analysis are really accurate or valid or not... all I know for sure is since I upgraded my iPhone to the 5 along with my other family members and clients, we have had "no data" on many occasions and are continually rebooting our iPhones and looking for what is wrong.
My questions to the support community are these:
         1. Is anyone else having this issue? Or is it just me and my few? Maybe a lot of people do not realize they are not getting their data because they are on Wi-Fi most of the time or they are just rebooting and not trying to identify the real problem. AT&T said it was nationwide iPhone 5/LTE issue.  Anyone else heard that from either Apple or AT&T?
         2. Is this an iPhone 5 / Apple issue or is AT&T solely responsible? Or is it both? Where do we get a solution??? Is AT&T LTE holding false connections with iPhone 5 or is the iPhone 5 failing to recognize a dropped LTE cellular data connection and then failing to attempt to re-connect with 4G or 3G?
         3. Did I miss where this issue is posted? I searched Apple Support and Communities and did not get any hits.  Any updates or further insight on the issue? Any other fixes other than Disabling LTE?
          4. If this is in fact a real issue belonging in part to the iPhone 5, we need to escalate Apple’s attention to it.
Thanks in advance for your help and feedback.

Thank you fellow users and experts for your feedback and updates. Sorry about the large font on the original post... accidental via cut and paste.
I have escalated the issue with both Apple and AT&T.  I actually got senior level troubleshooters from both Apple and AT&T on the phone at the same time... rare moment. Here are the key points of the update:
         1. AT&T did NOT confirm the earlier statement by another AT&T Technical Support Agent that this was an emerging nationwide issue about iPhone 5 and LTE losing data connection and not reconnecting at a lower level or re-connecting to LTE once the signal came back. So that earlier statement was not accurate as suspected by all of us. The senior tech at AT&T said he has seen this issue sporadically over the last month or so, but only with about 3-4 customers.  He said it seems to be location or phone dependent (some phones not all phones).
         2. The Apple Tech was satisfied that all that could be done to eliminate my issues possibly relating to my instance of software / iOS had been accomplished except erasing my iPhone and restoring as a new phone (I have avoided this inconvenience with the argument that other family/clients with the iPhone 5 have had the same problem).
         3. AT&T went so far as to examine which towers I had been connecting to over the last week and looked at other technical data that could possibly explain the issue. I now know I have 3 towers that provide LTE within 4 miles of my home/office, one within a half mile.  But so far there is nothing to explain or even properly identify the issue.  AT&T offered me to take my phone to an AT&T store, try to force replicate the problem there, if so, the store would put my SIM card in a brand new iPhone 5 (just to test) and try tor replicate the problem again. If replicated on a new phone, there is a deeper issue; if resolved on a new phone, the answer is obvious. I have not taken the time to do this yet.
         4. On Friday, Jan 4, 2013 while talking and between the tech support calls (on a different phone), I was able to re-create the problem 2 separate times in my home/office by forcing my iPhone to weaken its connection to service (burying it under electronic gear) and then waiting a few minutes, then trying to browse the Internet--no data service unless I manually reset the connection.  I am only able to cause the issue to occur if there is at least 15 min of idle time after a weak signal condition AND only if I don’t completely lose a connection to cellular voice service. It seems that if you go down to NO SERVICE the phone will do new a search and keep searching until reconnects to LTE or other signals correctly, but a weak connection seems to be strong enough for voice service but can sometimes cause the LTE data service to stop without reconnecting to LTE, 4G or 3G unless I manually intervene. It also seems that idle time with a weak connection is also necessary to re-create the problem manually.  Since Friday, I have not been able to re-create the problem. This has been an intermittent problem, so who knows.
FYI, I have never had this problem with my new iPad (also on AT&T LTE) that has been with me when the iPhone fails to have data service, but my iPad is never in my pocket or other places with perhaps less signal.
Again, if you are connected to Wi-Fi on your iPhone 5 most of the time, you may never notice this issue if you are even having it.
So far no progress on the real issue or resolution, but both Apple and AT&T have put forth very admirable effort.
If you or others you know are having this issue, please take the time to post a reply to this issue. Thank you.
