H.264 from DVCPro HD

I have a sequence made in FCP, captured in DVCPro HD. I want to create a HD file that can be played back on a PC with Quicktime. The first question is, Is H.264 the only codec for this? If so, when I send it to compressor and set it for download with the LAN setting, it just fails. Basicaly, What are the correct steps for making a H.264 movie from DVCPro HD? Thanks for the help.

Here is a list of settings in the inspector summary screen in compressor:

What I'm going for is a High Definition file that can be played back on a PC running Quick Time or some other media player. I'm just not sure what the proper set up/work flow is for exporting it. It is all made with HDVPro HD stock and 1080 X 1920 Live Type clips.

  • How to make compressor give me 1280x720   h.264 from my 1440 x 1080 sequenc

can someone please tell me how to make compressor give me 1280x720 h.264 from my 1440 x 1080 sequence, with compressor I load up my high defition h.264 but i cant see where i can chage the size, I can tab on the preset and change max bit rates and other stuff but not to make it 1280 x 720,
    Thanks for the help,
    Daz

    In Compressor 3's Settings window:
Apple > Apple Devices > H.264 for Apple TV
this is one of the presets that is supplied as standard and it is pre-configured for H.264 1280x720 output
if you're building your preset from scratch then you can set the output frame size in the Dimensions area of the Geometry pane

  • Publishing H.264 from capture card

    Hi,
I know the standard live publishing flow for DVR is:
Capture card (Raw video sample)>>>>>> FMLE >>>>>> FMS
The problem is, the capture card output the video sample as raw format, and the FMLE do the encoding job. It increases the load of the CPU.
    What I am thinking is:
Some capture cards do not support DirectShow output filter but it provide a native interface to get the encoded H.264 from the card.
The capture card can encode the video into H.264 by the clips on the card and there is no cost on CPU
then if I can publish the encoded H.264 from card to FMS in my program.  that will not increase the CPU load.
Capture card (H.264) >>>>>> my App >>>>>>> FMS
How to send the H.264 frames to FMS?
Open a video channel then send the H.264 frames one by one?
And what client / library should I use?
Adobe RTMP SDK, how much does the lisence cost? my project is just a tiny one and we can't pay much on it.
Then the only choice is Red5 RTMPClient?
    THank you

Yes you need to push data to FMS via RTMP - so you would have to use RTMP SDK for it. I dont know much about Red5 client.
As far cost of RTMP SDK is concerned - again i don't have the data , but i can ask someone to get in touch with you if you are really intrested. In that case drop in mail to me at [email protected] with your contact details

  • H.264 from AE 2014

Did I seriously just read that you won't be able to export h.264 from After Effects 2014?
After Effects Help | New features summary- at the very bottom under miscellaneous features.
You cannot export to the following formats in the 2014 version of After Effects CC. However, you can still import these file formats into After Effects.
    FLV/F4V
    MPEG-2
    H.264
    WMV
    SWF
    Huh?  What?

I'm encoding at 640x360. I usually use profile level 4.1, but this is only going to be directed towards software not hardware. There are work arounds to this, lots of them. Like encoding using Quicktime Animation codec and then re-encoding to Quicktime H.264 out of PP CS4, Sorenson Squeeze, or even Quicktime itself. All will work well. But the thing is that a person shouldn't have to go through a two-step work around like this. You want to maintain quality but Animation files are relatively huge. (By the way, its funny how PP CS4 has no problem exporting QT H.264).
How would I use Adobe Media encoder directly? Just drop the project from AE into the queue?

  • Can't get a decent SD DVD from DVCPRO HD material

We made the jump to HD and started shooting in DVCPRO HD (1080i60). We still deliver all of our final shows on standard DVD. I've been trying all week to come up with a workflow that will make a decent DVD from DVCPRO HD timelines, but I just can't get a decent image. First i tried just using the 2 pass best 90 minutes setting, and the dvd looked awful. Lots of heavy artifacting everywhere. Surfed the forums a bit, and someone recommended that I first convert the DVCPRO HD movie to SD 8 bit, then make the mpegs from the 8 bit movie. That helped a little, but still had artifacting in shoulders, hair, etc... So then I turned frame controls on and used the best setting for the resize filter when going from HD to SD 8 bit. This made further progress, but is still a lot worse than other SD dvd's I make with DVCPRO 50 footage or even mini dv footage. Anyone have a workflow out there that will give me a decent looking DVD? I can't seem to crack the HD to SD code.
    I'm using Compressor 3 on a G5 quad.

I still haven't found a way to make this work in compressor, but I have found a workaround for those of you with a Downconverting capture card and a tape deck. I use the component out of my aja card which automatically does a hardware downconvert of my 1080i material to SD anamorphic. I print to tape using my DVCPRO 50 deck, digitize the tape as DVCRPO 50 anamorphic once the tape has finished recording, then use SD DVD presets in compressor as normal. MUCH MUCH better looking DVD's. It's a pain, but the hardware downconversion in the KONA card seems to be light years ahead of anything compressor can produce using software.

  • Exporting H.264 from Premiere

I hope you can, please, help me with this one:
How is possible to export movies in H.264 from premiere?
I tried it using the Quicktime option, but all I got was an "Error Compiling Movie" message.
Also, I can´t find any options to export movies in MPG format (which uses AVC/H.264)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!
    Chico

I had the same problem. Not only with h.264 but couldn't export quicktime at all without getting the "Error Compiling Movie" message.
Reinstalled Quicktime (Pro) and made no difference...Didn't have time to troubleshoot further so I exported avi uncompressed and sent it off and got on with my life. I don't have to do much with quicktime so its not a big deal for me but I sure would love to know why it won't work for me...

  • Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes?

I'm new to this so forgive me for my ignorance...
I've been editing HD video footages shot in PANASONIC HVX200 P2, shot in 23.976fps... Now that I'm almost done, I've been talking to a lot of people (including COLORISTS that I spoke to). They are asking why I did not use APPLE PRORES 422.
QUESTION: Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes? If YES, what's the easiest way for me to do this without starting from scratch. Is there an easy step in FCP that I can do to recapture from my RAW P2 files? If there is a way, will my existing sequences work fine if I just recapture raw files?
    WHAT I HAVE:
    RAW P2: from Panasonic HVX
    Editing: Final Cut Pro 7
A/V FCP preset settings: DVCPRO HD 1080pa24
BTW, everything is fine with what I have but a couple of people I spoke with said I'll have better quality using Apple ProRes. Doing some test stuff, I noticed DVCPRO HD captures in 1280x1080, AND if I capture from APPLE PRORES it's 1440x1080. Since I'm not an expert on this, I'm not sure if the difference would be beneficial to what I'm doing.
I'm working on an indie digital movie hopefully for digital projection.
    Thanks for the help!

First just a wee bit of advice .. you say in your post that you have FCP 7 - this is the FCPX forum you will always get faster maybe even better responses if you post in the Final Cut Studio forum which includes FCP 7. That said ..I will try to help ..
Your HVX200 captures onto the P2 card as DVCPRO HD (4:2:2) which is a compressed format not really intended to be an editing friendly codec .. (better than many others but still not ideal). When you ingest it into FCP 7 the Log and Transfer window has a wee preference tab in which you can set the codec .. I would use ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (LT) if space is an issue. The incoming 'Transfer' is then decompressed and coded to ProRes 422 .. The main advantage is the ease of edit with no loss of quality.

  • Is there a maximum possible bitrate for h.264 (from DV iMovie)?

    Hello,
I have a DV file (a iMovie project) that is 8,76GB big. I want to burn it on a 8,5GB Dual Layer DVD. So I choose 23000kbit/s as video bitrate for h.264 (audio AAC 320kbit/s). The result was a file of 5,44GB (17Mbit/s). When I then tried 26000kbit/s the result was the same.
I the chose "best quality" and bitrate set to "automatic". The result was a 5,77GB file.
So, I wondered, if there is a limit in iMovieHD'05 for the bitrate chosen with h.264.
I have a very slow Mac, so I can't just test everything through, so here is my second question: would handbrake )last version for 10.5) be able to output a h.264 file with a bitrate of 23000kbit/s?
Another topic: I heard you can encode a DV file to mpeg2 with Toast Titanium, which I have. How do I do that, when I drop the VD file on it and choose compress and save as image, I get a video file of 8kb and an audio file of 4kb, when I open it and want to burn it, it starts compressing it again.
    Thanks in advance.

… since you can't tell iMovie to export the DV file as DV and use a smaller bitrate than the bitrate in the project, … I want to keep as much of the old bitrate as possible.
sure did iMHD5 export as DV!
    That's its 'native' format, iMovie-a (≤v.6) was a dv-editor by concept.-
there is no 'smaller' bitrate in DV - dv is a very straight codec, by standard 13GBs/h - done.
and for sure you can save larger files than >4GB on a fat32 formated media - I'm doing so 'daily' some of my cheap sport-cameras use fat32-SDCards, recording 2h continously, creating a bunch of files.. on import, those files get 'consolidated' by the edit software.
again: just drag'n drop your precious material on a stick - done.
... it is less complicated than you make it think.
You did not understand the sentence iMovie does not export DV in smaller bitrates. That means, it exports DV, but only in the maximum bitrate of 57MBit/s (as told by QT, when you open a DV file, that you exported from iMovie).
Also, you must be using a System that can read FAT32+. FAT32 (without the "+") can only write up to 4GB. I use Tiger (10.4.11).
I did knew, that FAT32 can only take 4GB big files and I forgot and tried to copy a 9GB file once and it did not work, so I know for sure. Not just since this thread.
Is there any other way than drag and drop files in OS X (I do it that way since OS 9 in 2001)?
I am not as stupid as you make me feel think.
I read up on Toast again and there you can force Toast to fit a DVD file that is bigger than 8,5GB to a 8,5GB DVD. (I just did not want to let Toasts crappy compressor do it, but instead use h.264 for minimum quality loss, even if the human eye can't tell. The source is analog SD material btw.).

  • Exporting video quicktime h.264 from .avi has no sound

    Hi,
    I am on CS4 extended.
I am trying to export an avi video to a quictime h.264 video and I have no sound.
Although I did that  and having sound, I dont know why it stopped suddenly.
I  recorded something in the same time with cam studio. May be that's why.
So I shutted down the computer and  reopened it.
    Same problem.
    Someone has a clue?
    Thanks for your attention,
    JP

    JP,
I do not have my CS5 Extended handy, so will go from the Premiere Pro (Adobe's video editor) side of the street. Bear with me on this, as PS-Extended might do things a bit differently.
When one is Exporting an AV file, there are two things that must be set:
Exporting both Audio & Video (in PrPro, these are done via checkboxes in the Export>General dialog screen)
Then, one must set Multiplexing * on the Export>Multiplexing dialog screen, to anything but "None." The choice is usually "DVD."
It's the Multiplexing Tab, that many miss. If set to None, then there will be two separate Export files - one for the Video stream, and one for the Audio stream.
Hope that gets you close, and sorry that I cannot open things up, and give you the exact screens and tabs in PS-Extended.
    Hunt
    * Multiplexing is the combining of both the Audio & Video streams into a single, discrete file. Multiplexing is usually OFF by default, though in PrPro, it's a "sticky," in that it retains the last setting, so if the user wishes to make a change, they must do so manually, and that setting will then stick, until changed again. The Export of separate files for Audio & Video is most often used, when one is doing the Export to go to a DVD, or BD authoring program, like Adobe Encore. It works best with elemental streams, rather than muxed files, and especially with MPEG Audio.

  • Making DVDs from DVCPRO HD footage

I DVCPro HD media (Panasonic HVX200 camera) in FCP timelines. I need to quickly create DVD's for translation of foreign language interviews - so quality can be so so. At this point, I've been advised to use Compressor, selecting Best Quality 16:9 90 min., and then to use DVD Studio Pro to make DVD's. Is there a faster way - or could it be done with iDVD? Thanks!

There are two conversions happening in this workflow, the framesize frm HD to NTSC, and the mpeg compression for DVD.
If you send the sequence directly to Compressor from FCP, it will re-process all of the original frames, and ignore any pre-rendered material. So if you nest the HD sequence into a SD sequence, don't nother rendering.
Now I have had good results going directly to SD mpeg directly from my HD sequence. However, encode times have been roughly 2 or 3:1 on my 2.66 Intel Mac Pro. That's using 2-pass VBR encoding (best).
Nesting the sequence might increase the amount of time required to encode with Compressor. You might find it beneficial to export a SD Quicktime Movie of your sequence to the finder from your HD sequence. The total amount of time required should be about the same, but you can then drop the SD QT file into Compressor without tying up FCP during encoding.
    Hope this helps -

  • Expoting H.264 from FCP 5.1 "Codec error"

    The Problem:
I am trying to export a QT movie from FCP 5.1 with the H.264 codec
using "export/quicktime movie" and I get a "Codec error" message.
    The Situation:
I am using FCP 5.1 to sequence imported QT movies I have made in Foto Magico (640x480-30 fps-H.264 Codec). I have no problem getting these to run in the timeline as long as I match these sequence settings (they run fine/no rendering needed). When I try to export using "export/quicktime movie" I get a "Codec error" message. My understanding of this export path is that it doesn't recompress clips like the "export/using quicktime conversion" does. It will export a H.264 movie using "export/using quicktime conversion" but it takes forever and I have a lot of media to crunch, Any suggestions?
    Thanks...

Whenever I try to set the export module to Quicktime H.264 I immediately get the error/message, "For reliable output with H.264 compression, please choose it directly from the Output Module Format menu instead of via Quicktime."
If you try ro render, you only get an error and there is no render.
What could be going wrong? Is a plugin not working? The only thing I can think of is I updated to Quicktime 7.6 a few days ago. Anyone else experienced this problem?

  • Computer shuts down after exporting H.264 from mts file

My computer shuts down after trying to export a H.264 file from a .mts file. I did this with no problems a few days ago, twice! This time line is longer, about 6.5 minutes. I have a I 5 processor, a gtx 660 graphics card and 8 megs of ram. I exported audio as a wave file and added those to the timeline. In the events panel, I get a message: "file importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of audience_end_short.wav. Reading and writing this files metadata (xmp) has been disabled". it said the same for another short bit of audio, .wav file. I thought maybe there was a over heating issue, but to no avail. Do I need to get an I 7 processor? Please help!

sorry about the spelling! Still going. About the driver issue. I was updating Geo Force drivers and my friend said to revert to the original install, which I did a while ago. That helped, but obviously didn't cure it. Wonder if I should do the same for windows updates. So although I'm still rendering after 2 hours, perhaps the new user acount will get me through this. So strange that I was able to render/export the exact files the other day. Like I said, this mts clip is longer by a minute. Plus, I got rid of the wav files that had a meta data issue. Thanks for helping me everyone. I'll keep you posted. But I do believe an I 7 processor will at least help in the speed department  right?

what settings? to capture MPEG-4 AVC/H-264 sanyo camera

h264 is not a native format that fcp can edit with, so you will have to encode the footage to dv or dvcpro or prores, usinf either compressor of mpegstreamclip then import that .mov file into fcp

  • H.264 From Camera

    Hi Everybody,
Im surprised by a topic in adobe FAQ that tells it is
possible to record H.264 stream on server. and I have a question
about the source of this stream. is it from user webcam. and is
FlashPlayer support coding H.264 webcam inputs?
and if it is I guess it should be announced below FlashPlayer
    Update.

The source can be Flash Media Live encoder 3(FMLE 3) or any
    other publisher with H.264 support.
Flash Player 10 (or earlier) don't encode in H.264.
