H.264 with widescreen

I shot a movie in MiniDV in squeeze format.
I imported the footage in FinalCut in anamorphic, and I edited in anamorphic.
I am exporting now a Quicktime movie to print on a Music CD, but the version I get is not in anamorphic, the images are squeezed.
How do I get an export in anamorphic?
Thank you very much.

Since your using FinalCut. Export to Compressor. Set Compressor to anamorphic 16:9. Compressor wil do the math for you. And you'll get a anamorphic movie in Qt...................

  • Encoding h.264 with an audio format other than AAC?

AME CC only lets me encode an h.264 with AAC audio, and that's the one format I *can't* use for this project! Without descending deep into the crazy world of ffmpeg command lines, is there any way to encode with AC3, WAV, MPEG-2, Vorbis, or FLAC? I hear the occasional murmur of plugins but have never seen a link to such a thing.

    Why can't you use AAC?
MPEG-4 Part 3 describes support for quite a few audio codecs, AAC and MP3 being the only two most people have heard of.
I imageine many decoders won't be able to read some codecs on the list. Likewise, other decoders may be able to read codecs not listed, like Vorbis and FLAC.
I can sympathize with Adobe only wanting to let users make the configuration most likely to be supported. If you want to get fancy, I guess you'll need FFmpeg.

  • Exporting h.264 with CS4 vs CS3

Maybe I'm just dumb and this is an easy question....I'm not sure, but here goes:
I had a project in Premiere Pro CS3, a music video. I'm used to exporting videos as quicktime with an h.264 codec for online streaming from CS3, and they always looked great. A lot of websites cap video uploads to 500MB or a gig, so it was a perfect way to get a high quality video on the net. The 3 minute music video I was working on became a great looking 450MB h.264 movie.
With CS4 and the adobe media encoder, things are a bit different. I export as a quicktime movie with the h.264 codec, at the same settings (100% quality) but it looks awful. The same music video was around 80MB and didn't look anywhere near the quality of same video exported from CS3. I've tried a number of options and presets, and havn't been able to get the same quality or size file.
I even checked both files in G-Spot codec reader (great tool) and they were the exact same AVC1-h.264 codec.
What is happening here? Is the codec somehow used differently in CS4 than in CS3? Is there something I'm not doing to get a high quality h.264 movie out of CS4?
    Thanks,
    Peter

The bitrate of your output movie depends on your Export Settings. At the bottom of the Preset list is "Edit Export Settings". There you can adjust all the settings just like CS3.

  • AVCHD interlaced sequence export to progressive (h.264) with Premiere Pro CS5.

    Hi !
I have searched everywhere on the web (and this forum) for an appropriate answer.
    Here is the problem :
I have used AVCHD (upperfields first / square pixels / 1080i30(i60)) footages to make a movie.
The primary sequence settings are correct :
    AVCHD 1080i30(i60) square pixels
The files play fine in Premiere, and the montage was flawless in high 1080i quality.
I have exported 5 seconds of the movie into raw "AVI Microsoft uncompressed" files, so I can import them in "After Effects" to had some texts and graphics. When done, I re-imported them into the Premiere's sequence. (same AVI uncompressed format).
Playback works fine. The movie looks great and flawless, and has no interlacing artifact.
HOWEVER : When I want to export this sequence into a MPEG H.264 progressive final file, there is some gerkiness on the parts where the "AVI" files were added.
It looks as if it had been interlaced, when the rest of the movie looks ok.
When I'm in the exporting window, I can see the "Source" and "Output" display.
"Source" looks fine and "Output" looks gerky.
I have tried to create a new progressive sequence, into which I imported my main AVCHD sequence (with some progressive footages in it). To no avail !... I had heard that this could work but it's not.
I looked in the "Output" window while trying all the possible codec formats (and field orders), to no avail.
UNTIL !! I checked the key : "Make Sequence settings match" that is on top of the exporting window.
The image in the "Output" window became clear. However, all the settings below the checked key were now locked.
Producing a file with this format (it seems it is a MPEG2 / upperfield first, the same format that is used for Preview files) can render a file that has all it's field and image quality aligned.
By unchecking the "Make sequence match" key, I was able to create my own settings of MPEG2 "upperfield" that still interpretes the movie correctly.
But it's not the MPEG H.264 progressive file that I want. I have to re-render it with a third party software to get a H.264(p) out of a MPEG2(i).
Is there something I should check or try to be able to export my movie in H.264 directly ?
    Thank you!

  • Export multichannel mp4/h.264 with Adobe Premiere Pro CC

    Dear community,
we currently test the Adobe Premiere Pro CC trial (German) on a Windows 7 Professional PC.
However, we are not succentful in exporting a multichannel mp4/H.264 clip.
We haven't found an answer on our issue so far, so I hope that this question was not answered several times before in this forum.
If we chosse the H.264 exporter, we cannot select a multichannel audio export (only mono, stereo, 5.1).
In contrary, if we select the Quicktime exporter, we are able to export our sequence with a 4 channel audio master with 4 mono tracks, but we can only export it with a DVCPro Codec in a mov container.
If we try to select a HD H.264 preset we get an error alert stating that the preset contains a not compatible video codec.
    What are we doing wrong?
    Thanks for every suggestion.
    Thanks in advance
    André

    Thanks for your thoughts, Richard.
Your are right, we currentky use the Adobe Premiere Creative Cloud version.
We managed it to solve at least the error message. It was caused because Quicktime was not installed together with the Adobe Premiere Pro / AME setup on our computer.
After we installed Quicktime 7 manually, we can select a Quicktime/H.264 preset without any problems within the exporter settings.
However, the Quicktime/H.264 export dialog seems to only allow a mono or stereo audio export. No multichannel-audio export.
This possibility is only displayed in Richards case, if we select the Quicktime exporter and an Uncompressed Video or DV preset.
Our question to the Adobe developer guys is the reason behind this limition? Other video authoring prograns can export a mp4 with H.264 Codec with multichannel AAC without any problems.
How can we do this with Adobe Premiere Pro (not necessarily via Quicktime)?

  • Problems with widescreen

I recently purchased a 2nd gen apple tv.  My problem is some movies or shows wont display in widescreen even though they are new.  On some movies it will switch between widescreen and the normal view with two bars on each side by itself. I have even had movies where it was a small box with bars on top and bottom.  Anyone have any ideas?

I have to chime in, here, too. Example - I have a Samsung 32" only 3 months old.
With the tv in standard 16:9 format, my ATV2 displays some shows with the vertical bars, as though the content is supposed to be 4:3. It is not. It was Camelot from Starz, Robin Hood from BBC, Some episodes of Stargate Atlantis beginning about 1/2 way through Season 5. These all display through the Netfix website/Silverlight player, on iPad and on Plex (on iMac or MacBook) in a wide-screen, full-screen mode.
On the ATV2, when I exit the program back to the menu, the ATV2 menu is full screen, just as it should.
I haven't been able to distinguish a pattern, but it does repeat on certain shows, and only on the ATV2. I don't have Wii, PS3, XBox, etc.
So any help would be appreciated.

  • H.264 with AS2?

Can I use video encoded as h.264 within a Flash 9 swf that's
using ActionScript 2, or does it require ActionScript 3?

    quote:
    It requires actionscript 3.0
I haven't tried it but I don't think that was the intention
with the upgrade. It will require the latest player version, that
is certain. But perhaps existing as2 code will work with the new
video formats if it is playing in the latest player version. I
believe that was the intention from adobe for what *should* be
possible. I remember reading that here last year:
    http://www.kaourantin.net/2007/08/what-just-happened-to-video-on-web_20.html
    Specifically:
    quote:
All your existing video playback front ends will work as they
are. As long as they do not look at the file extension that is,
though renaming the files to use the .flv file extension might help
    your component.
But I have not tried it.... so cannot say for certain.

  • Unwanted windowboxing with widescreen iDVD projects

Short description of problem: Movies played back on my 15" PowerBook G4 are identically windowboxed, regardless of whether they are burned using standard or widescreen settings in iDVD.
Detailed description: I've been burning classic movies captured on TiVo to DVD by running the TiVo output through a camcorder (for analog-digital conversion), and then into iMovie 6.0.3 on a 12" PowerBook G4. There, I'll put in some chapters, make a Quicktime clip or two for the DVD menu, and make sure any commercials are edited out. I'll export this into iDVD 6.0.3, set up the main menu, and make sure everything looks O.K. Then I'll burn it onto DVD. Works great.
My problem is with letterboxed movies. I realized I had erred in not saving these in widescreen format when I saw that their playbacks were windowboxed on my 15" PowerBook... meaning I had 3/4" black bands on each side and 1.25" black bands on the top and bottom. So, I repeated the process for the affected movies, only this time I did a "get info" in iDVD and made sure the 16:9 widescreen radio button was selected instead of the 4:3 standard.
When I play back one of these new, widescreen-created DVDs, though, I get the exact same window boxing as before. Can anybody suggest what I'm doing wrong?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Len -
Thank you for the settings advice. I should have thought of that.
As to the MiniDV tape question:
I'm not actually using a tape when I do this... the camcorder acts strictly as a passthrough analog-to-digital converter. In fact, this function won't quite work if I have a tape in the camcorder, which seems to be an oddity with the particular Sony camcorder I'm using.
But your question raises some interesting points. The pass-through movie does NOT fill the width of the LCD display, even though (1) the TiVo Video setting is at 16:9 and (2) the Sony DCR-HC42 "TV Type" setting is also set to 16:9. This could be the source of the problem, I suppose, although this opens up a whole kettle of non-Apple fish.
One thing that's odd, though: if I export a short, letterboxed QT clip from iMovie to use for the DVD's main menu, it shows up without any pillaring (and with no obvious distortion) on the resulting DVD main menu. It's only when I'm into the movie itself on the DVD that the pillaring occurs. That, to me, suggests that the problem is confined to content that goes directly from iMovie to iDVD, and maybe I should be considering a full-blown QT export per F Shippey's suggestion.

  • Is CS5 a good edit program to edit mpeg-4 AVC/H.264 with?

I always used adobe premiere pro 2 to edit DV. But now i've bought a new HD camera so i'm searching for a good program to edit my movies with. Right now I have to convert my HD movies in elements 7 and transfer it to adobe, but the result is very poor, time consuming and frustrating.
I'm about to buy a new computer and also a new edit program. But is CS5 a good choice? Is it possible to capture or transfer my movies of mpeg4 AVC/H.264 straight into a project in CS5? is there anybody out there who already uses this kind of codec for projects in CS5?
    Monique.

Thanks a lot, I will check this section.
Can you also give me information about the quality when burning
(H.264) projects from CS5 on DVD?
Or do I have to use a blue ray recorder to avoid looking at unstable/jerky

  • Encoding to high profile h.264 with quicktime (7 pro) export

Is there anyway to encode high profile h264 with quicktime export ?
Been using a canon HF100 for years now, and my goal is to edit and export my movies to h264 with the least quality lost. I can edit(trimming and merging) without quality loss. My endresult is in AIC codec, but when I export it to H264 in quicktime, in the highest settings, I can still see quality(or actually, color depth) loss in low light scenes.
Even with a bitrate which is almost identical to the AIC file...
    I have a 130.2Mb (52.7Mbps) h264 main@Level 5 with 2 reference frames/second clip that looks worse the the original AIC file(56.9Mbps) of 143.8Mb
The canon HF100 records in high profile at level 4.0 (high@L4) with 17Mbps. It does 2 reference frames per second and CABAC.
So in theory exporting my projects at 17Mbps should be enough, if only the right settings where available in quicktime export.
Is there anyway to convert AIC to High profile settings, CABAC(available in main profile but not used bij quicktime in h264 output) on the MAC ?
    My workflow:
    1. I use shedworx VoltaicHD to convert my AVCHD files to AIC (pretty much lossles)
    2. I use Imovie 6 to create a new Project in the following structure: HDV1080i
    3. I don't import the AIC files with iMovie but I dump them with Finder in the "media" folder of the Imovie project.(This way I can maintain the 1920x1080 resolution, with importing it gets 1440x1080)
    4. Then I open the project in Imovie, open the trashcan and see my movie clips.
    5. Then the trimming, cutting and merging begins, no use of effects(adding effects creates 1440x1080 video)
    6. Time for export with quicktime h264 codec.

    Hi MartinR,
    Some answers on your thoughts:
"You have an AVCHD camcorder. Where did you get the technical information that it records HiProfile/Level 4/2 ref frames per sec/CABAC?"
-I'v dropped some original mts files from my camera on a program called "mediainfo" from sourceforge net.
"VoltaicHD's conversion isn't exactly 1920x1080, either. Open one of your AIC files in QT Player, do Window > Show Movie Inspector and tell us what it says for format and fps. 1440x1080? 1888x1062?"
-Both mediainfo and quicktime (7 pro and the new quicktime) show in their info that the movie format from voltaicHD file is 1920x1080.
But I can remember I've seen the 1888x1062 resolution in the info in the past. Maybe things where changed by a new version of voltaic or an update by quicktime ?
" certainly understand your efforts to get the results you want with what you have on hand. However you will be better off with iMovie11 and/or Final Cut Express 4 or Final Cut Studio 6. FCP 6 by the way supports ProRes which, if you are very driven for the highest technical qualities, would be the way to go."
I thought about buying imovie 11 in the app store. For 11,99 euro's it's a bargain!
But a little search on the forums kept me from buying it.
My camera puts out interlaced files, even when I record progressive. This is done by most camera manufacturers for compatibility on blu ray players and older lcd and plasma tv's.
Now it seems that if you use effects in imovie 11, it drops half the fields, resulting in 960x540 resolution...In that case imovie 6 with 1440x1080 supported effects is still better.
The same 1440x1080 limitations seems to exist in Final cut express 4.
I know the backdoor in imvie06 works, you can see the 1920 to 1440 resolution drop with your own eyes when effects are added. The drop is only visible in the frames that contain a special effect, the rest of the exported movie is untouched and still 1920.
I did some thinking, and what bothers me the most is that exporting the movie results in loss of color depth/detail. I could imagine that if I could use Prores422 instead of AIC, which is only available in FCP (999Euro's!). That the end result is better, but I'm not sure.
Could be that the colors of the original movie file are spread more over the range because it supports 10 bit sample depth instead of 8. Even when that is true, I am not sure if the h.264 codec will tread it different and maintains some more color depth.
And for fact the avchd files are 4:2:0 and not 4:2:2.
Do you or anyone know if there is any different in quality in an exported to h.264 pro resolution file or an AIC file. Even when the source is 8 bit 4:2:0 ?

  • Premiere CC export h.264 with artefacts

    Hi!
I am very disappointed how Premiere CC export h.264.
Every time exported movie have artifacts.
    Every time in different places.
I have delete all cache, changed nvidia drivers., finally removed all nvidia drivers and expored without them.
The result is - always artefacts - like colored squares on video or
    like this
    http://savepic.net/3898131.htm
    Premiere cc 7.01
    Nvidia gtx-660
    Sequence-match export-1920x1080 25p 16Mb CBR.
Footages Not spanned MTS from Sony Nex-100
    Effect - fast color correct.
What can I  do? It is impossible to work!!!
    Update.
Just export to lagarith from Premiere
The result is also with artifacts.
    http://savepic.net/3879699.htm
Then import lagarith avi to media encoder and export to h.264
And what I see  - there are new artifacts.
    http://savepic.net/3882771.htm

This is exactly my experience with Premiere CS6 and CC h264 export.
The artefacts I had are not as bad as you show in your pics, but always exist in every export.
Now, I'm using UT-codec to export and convert it without artefacts with TMPGenc x264.

  • Letterboxing with widescreen source - CS4

I am using Premiere CS4 and I have an issue/problem (?) with the output from Media Encoder. The project is PAL widescreen.
I exported the timeline and selected "Microsoft AVI" codec. The resultant video shows perfectly in Windows Media Player, 16:9 aspect ratio. If I play the same avi file in Real player I get the video 4:3 letterboxed. The same results with any other compression; flv, f4v wmv etc.
Also, when I embed an flv video into Flash (CS4) I still get the 4:3 letterboxed result.
Not sure if this is a Premiere problem or Flash problem.
    Any help appreciated.
    Steve
Note: The original footage was shot on a Sony TRV-950 camcorder in 16:9 mode. Not sure if the black bands top and bottom were recorded by the camcorder and Premiere (and Windows Medi Player) recognises this and cuts them off. Whilst Flash doesn't.

The video that Flash sees is 4:3 format. The top and bottom bars are part of the footage as far as Flash is concerned. I have tried every permutation of dimensions within Flash but no luck. The problem surely resides in what Premeire exports, it's just that some programs (Window Media Player, Premiere Pro and DVD Encore) seem to be able to display it correctly.
The way that I understand how the TRV-950 works in widescreen mode is that it doesn't use the full height of the sensor, so it crops in-camera to give a 16:9 format.

  • Import mpeg4 h.264 with FCE

Is it possible the direct import of hd movies mpeg4, codec h.264, 1920x1080 (1080p) with FCE?
I regularly imported these movies with iMovies 09.
    Thanks!

You can't work with this material in FCE without rendering unless you convert the media before you bring it into the application. You can do this with iMovie or most likely with MPEG Streamclip or the QuickTime 7 pro player. The file format will be QuickTime with the Apple Intermediate Codec and considerably larger than the original file size about 12MB/sec, roughly 42G per hour.

  • Problem With Widescreen Export

Hey everyone. I know that there's been a lot of topics posted about this and I have read every single one and still can't seem to get it right. So here's the deal...
I recorded 16:9 footage on my Canon ZR800.
I captured with Anamorphic 16:9 settings.
    The sequence preset is Anamorphic.
    When I export it's 4:3.
I tried changing the pixels to Square like someone suggested. It seemed like it would work, but it didn't change anything, it actually just created a 4:3 frame with black bars on the left and right making it.....Tallscreen, if you know what I mean.
Is there anyway to get 16:9 footage from FCP to a QuickTime file? I'm not worried about putting it on a DVD right now, so I don't want to letterbox it if I don't have to.
    Thanks!
    -Kevin

When I went to export, I went to Size and manually put in a size (that is, I chose Custom and put in a Widescreen ratio. If you search Google for 'Aspect Ratio Calculator' you'll find a java ratio calculator for widescreen and full. I usually use 800 as the width). After doing that, it stretched it out and it works great.
