H264(Youtube/Vimeo Preset) export looks flat and desaturated- H264 Gamma?

All my h264 output both quickitme and mp4 looks flat and desaturated after export compared to to the program window. This happends with both cs5.5 and cs6.
I know there is some h264 bug with Quicktime but  its flat on Youtube also( in Safari) I thought this gamma issue has been sorted out?
How can I output my files to youtube so it looks the same as my Program monitor on youtube? I know all screens are different and you need a color calibrated montior( I have that) but why the shift?
It just does not seem that anyone has an answer. x264 does not work... anything else? QUickitme x does not have the ability to do the "opacity fix"
How will i get that my output on my client screen will not be so flat. ( I know it wont be exactly the same (as TVs in a showroom) but the difference between the video inside premier and outside is VAST!
I dont want to "fix" it by addinga contrast and saturation layer and them on a Windows machine maybe its then overly contrasty?
I'm on 17" MAcbook PRo Using anexternal calibrated NEC Monitor.
Did I miss a major answer on the web somewhere?

So what do you guys do? Just add an extra layer of process ( I have added a fast color correction Adjustment layer and clipping the black at 10 and the highlights at 245 and putting the saturation at 120. Its a thumbsuck though...
How on earth do  people who colour grade on Davinc or Lustre etc output there stuff to Vimeo.(Yes I know it goes to film or TV , but what about thier showreel?) It also uses H264? Is there ANY codec I can use to upload to Youtube that will look like my program monitor?
It is facinating how these companies provide all these wonderful tools and in the final polished output you cannot get it too look llike it looked inside the product! Baffling!
If I had a Windows machine would I have this problem?

  • Adobe media encoder exports look pixelated and has artifacts.

    Hello all,
For the past week we've been having terriable looking videos after compressing them with premiere pro 2014 or AME CC 2014. I though it might be a key framing issue at first. When we look at the final product we have areas where pixilation and artifacting show. We film on canon c500 so we edit with mxc files. We export out with the Youtube settings and adjust them manually. We have 2 areas we export for. 1280x720 at 4mbps and 1920x1080 at 10 to 15mps. We have never had this bad of looking video before we switched to cc2014. I work on Mac OS X 10.9.4 with a 6 core inter Xeon 32GB memory and we have the Kona LHi AJA graphics card.
Here is an example of what we are getting.
    test2.mp4 - Box
If you look at around 3 seconds the whole screen will pixalate and you'll see artifacts for about 10 frames. It's really bad in my opinion and we can't display this. I called Adobe for support and after 2 hours they only trashed my preferences and took my complaint. That's all the help I've gotten so far.
Any help will be very appreciated.
    thanks for you're time.

  • Export to PDF and print same swatch colour - different variation of colour on printouts

I have multiple documents - they are all set up the same way.
I have 2 or 3 swatches in each of them -namely Rubine Red is giving me an issue - this is the same swatch in every document!

Can anyone help me with this?
The printer I am using is a XeroxColorQube using PS driver.

I've also exported the document to IDML - and I've unzipped that folder. I've read the information for the colour - there's only 1 reference to Rubine Red and that's giving the same percentages as the InDesign file.
I don't know where the 2nd shade of pink is coming from.
But I suspect that it's from the print driver itself.
Also - just occured to me, I lost my PDF settings a while ago, InDesign crashed and the PDF defaults were missing - I dowloaded a copy of a set from someone on these forums through a google search.
But I no longer have PDF x4 export option - where can I retrieve these.
How can I restore the original PDF settings for InDesign?

  • 3/4 Tones Look Flat "Grungy"

ASIDE from the need for adequate capture sharpening (canceling out exteme highlights and shadows from capture sharpening) the 3/4 tones still look flat and rather grungy compared to other convertes such as C1 Pro and DPP. This problem goes back to ACR 2.
P.S. Before the pod children start barking at me I suggest you all educatute your silly a.. selves. Take a look at Out of Gamut: Thoughts on a Sharpening Workflow by Bruce Fraser...better yet since I am sure you all don't own books I will quote Mr. Fraser when he discribes capture sharpening. He states as follows....
"At this stage, it's important to treat the highlights and shadows very gently, otherwise they'll get blown out and plugged up, respectively, in the subsequent sharpening rounds. The Blend If: sliders in the Layer Options dialog box are invaluable for constraining the capture sharpening to the midtones -- you can access these by choosing Layer Style>Blending Options from the Layer menu, or by simply double-clicking on the layer in the Layers palette. Figure 2 shows the layer blending options set to protect highlights and shadows, focusing the sharpening on the midtones."

Thanks Michael, it's and excellent read and been my roadmap to sharpening even before I purchased Photokit Sharpener (your a champ Jeff) years ago.
I do want to make a correction or a reevaluation to my observation of "Grungy" 3/4 tones. I understand now why back in version 1.(something) you guys turned up the default Luminance smoothing for the conversion and changed it back after everyone complained. I had my defaults in Lightroom 2.x set per ISO and camera and had things set up to apply no (zero) luminance smoothing at base ISO (100). After some testing I see how at base ISO a very small amount of luminance smoothing lets say 4-5 totally cleans things up in my final prints and actually micro detail is better defined. I have adjusted my defaults accordingly and problem solved.
But I do still have to reiterate the need for "legitimate" capture sharpening in Lightroom. It's a great app this is just such a "buzz killer" that one has to roundtrip for a prints to capture sharpen in Photoshop in my case with Photokit Capture Sharpening. The new print sharpening in Lightroom 2.x however is great and that's how I go (thanks again Jeff). There really is no subjective excuse for this one. And where I get pissed is when it's shot at me through the teeth. The only analogy that comes to mind would be that some morons fabricate a SUBJECTIVE "bugaboo" about granular sharpness in the darkroom.
Look, if its a programming nightmare to add blending sliders to this iteration of Lightroom at least add a "switch/option" in the detail tab now labeled "sharpen midtones only" and add a hardcoded gosub in the code.

  • H264 Gamma Issues on PC

As a relative newbie on a very steep learning curve, I have just come across the Gamma issues when creating H264 videos on the Mac and then having them viewed on PC.
I've spent all day reading the thousands of comments on various websites regarding this issue and think I now have a basic understanding of the cause. However I am still quite confused as to the solution.
In Ken Stone's brilliant tutorial 'Compressor H.264 movies from FCP for the web' he states that H264 handles Gamma correction by burying 'Colour Sync' profiles into the QT movies so that at playback, the H264 QT movie will check the platform of the viewer and adjust Gamma correctly. So I thought all of the stuff I was reading must have been prior to Ken's comments.
After compressor had made an amazing job of my video, I sent it over to the PC ready for a first test and yes, it looked bad and clearly the Gamma was wrong.
I then found a workaround that literally hundreds of people had used: where by the finished QT file was adjusted as follows:-
"After rendering into a QuickTime/h.264 file, open it up in QuickTime and select “Show Movie Properties.” Highlight the video track then click on the “Visual Settings” tab. Towards the bottom left you should see “Transparency” with a drop-down box next to it. Select “Blend” from the menu then move the “Transparency Level” slider to 100%. Choose “Straight Alpha” from the same drop-down and close the properties window and finally “Save.”" More details of that here - http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2008/06/fix-quicktime-gamma-shift/
I have now made different versions of the video, with and without the changes outlined above. When they are viewed either 'standalone' on my PCs and laptops or downloaded from my website, compared to how they looked on the Mac, just look completely dull and flat.
I’m trying to work my way through this problem but in the meantime if anybody can help, I would be eternally grateful..?
    Thanks

  • Exporting from Media Encoder using Vimeo Preset and getting pixelated footage in a specific location

I am exporting a video using Vimeo preset 1080p 23.976 H.264.  Everytime I export the entire video approx 5 minutes long I get pixelated footage at a very specific point every time.  I've tried multiple workarounds, relinking the media, exporting to different location (willing to try anything at this point).
When I just export the specific problem area the problem is non existent.
    Any advice/help is greatly appreciated.

I am using the CC version, so I should be up to date from my understanding.
Magically, that worked!  I'm just curious why I had that problem in the first place?  Any insight?
Thanks again! You're quick response is much appreciated!

  • Best setting for export to revver/youtube/vimeo

    Hey,
I've been trying all different settings and i still haven't been able to find the combination that makes for good quality video on sites such as revver/youtube/vimeo. I've tried all types of tutes online but none seem to work for me. I know theres a youtube setting but most people seem to say this is exports too small a size.
    Any suggestions? Thanks

I'm not familiar with revver. YouTube is not up to the quality of Vimeo. I suggest exporting for Vimeo, using the suggested settings on the Vimeo site. Use that same file for uploading to YouTube/revver.
To give you an example of the quality you can achieve on Vimeo, here is a clip I posted. The source material was 4:3 DV in a 16:9 SD project, encoded to 1280x720 (Vimeo HD) WMV with 2-pass unconstrained VBR with target bitrate at 5500 Mbps and audio at 128 Kbps.

Even on YouTube it looks decent.

  • Exporting "Youtube HD" Preset results in no video just black screen

    Hello,
I am a new user to Premiere CS5.  I made a short video and would like to put it online in HD for youtube and vimeo.  I shot the footage using a Canon DSLR t2i in HD at 24fps.
I am trying to export it in order to upload it to youtube and I tried to the preset under H.264 that is called Youtube HD.  When it finished I went to watch the video and it was just a black screen but the audio worked fine.  The Export video box is checked so it is not that.
I exported using Quicktime Format but the quality was a little worse.  I am now trying HDTV format to see how that turns out.
Is there something I can do to make the Youtube HD preset work correctly?  I imagine that's the best option for uploading to youtube.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for replying =)
My footage properties are all as follows (except different file names obviously for different files):

  • FAQ: How do I export a movie for YouTube, Vimeo, iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV?

When you export your movie, choose H.264 as the format and then choose the appropriate YouTube, Vimeo, iPad, iPhone, or Apple TV encoding preset from the Preset menu.
See this video for instructions for using the new and improved encoding presets in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5:
    Adobe Media Encoder Improvements

I figured out one way to do it.
    I don't know if it's the easiest.
    1. drag the movie from iPhoto into the iTunes movie folder.
    2. in iMovie- go to "file- New Event". Name it.
    3. go to "file- New Project". Name it.
    4. click the iTunes button on right"Show or Hide Music and Sound Effects browser"
5.Scroll down until you see the iTunes icon and expand the triangle if not already expanded to reveal the "Movies"    icon. Click on it.
    6. Find the movie in the list below and drag it to the new event.
    7. edit and/or drag it to the Project window.
Go to "Share- YouTube..." follow the prompts.
It will process the movie and let you post it to YouTube, and give you the option to share it.

  • B&W Images Look Flat on Export?

    Hi...
For some reason, when I export my images...especially my black and whites...they have a flat quality to them. I have to open them up in PS and work Levels or something to make them look as good as in LR. There's always blank space at the right end of the histogram that I have to crop.
Any ideas why? I really like the idea of doing all my post in LR now.
    Thanks!

My B&W exports always look exactly like they do in LR. Are you viewing them in a color managed application? What color space are you exporting to? For B&W there is no reason to use anything else than sRGB. ProphotoRGB has a gamma of 1.8 (instead of 2.2 for sRGB and aRGB), so if you export to prophoto and you view it in a non-colormanaged app, your exports will look flat.

Assuming you do not have access to the "original" video/project and the YouTube video is the only copy, there is a method. Try "YouTube Downloader" which is a free software that allows you to download clips from YouTube as .mp4 files. You can then edit with Premiere, and re-encode again for upload to YouTube. Just keep in mind that you are re-compressing the video so there will be some quality loss. The better the quality of the original, the better the copy will hold up.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

  • JPEG Export Looks Saturated in Internet Explorer

I see this question in many forums and online but without a solution.
JPEG exports (sRBG) look overly saturated when viewed in Internet Explorer browser, including when uploading/viewing in Facebook, etc, etc.  In other words, the colors looks different between Lightroom and Internet Explorer.  (Colors looks the same between Lightroom and Photoshop though.)
As point of reference, when you download a sample JPEG image from Canon EOS's website (used to show sample images from their cameras) you see that those images also use sRGB profile.  They also look exactly the same no matter how you view them (Lightroom, Photoshop, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.).
What is Lightroom doing to photos upon export to JPEG and you need Lightroom or Photoshop to see the same colors?
I saw some talk about it had to do with Lightroom presets and that you had to zero those out?  Any ideas from Windows users?

Have you got Firefox or Safari on your machine?  In which case, how do the images look in either of those browsers?  Or, if you're using Windows 7, how do the images look in Windows photo viewer?
Also, can you say what monitor you are using please?
I think it might be a colour management issue.  Internet Explorer is not colour managed (not even IE9), Lightroom and Photoshop are colour managed, so is Windows 7 photo viewer (but not the XP equivalent), so are Firefox and Safari (but not Chrome).  When there's a difference between how something looks in an non-colour-managed program and colour-manged programs then it's worth checking for colour management issues.
If your monitor has a wider gamut than sRGB, then you would expect IE9 and other non-managed programs to look over-saturated.

  • PDF quality problems exporting from InDesign and Photoshop

    Hi There.
I'm having big problems exporting my InDesign files to PDFs and retaining the res. And it's not just the images (I understand about the dpi) it's the type on there too.
I have been exporting as the preset High Quality Print - is this wrong. Are there other settings to ensure the PDF I export retains the high-res quality and clarity?
At the moment it comes out high-res when I export it as a jpeg or eps but not PDF.
I have also noticed the same problem when I export to a PDF from Photoshop.
I really need to create interactive and high quality print PDFs from my InDesign files.
    Please can you advise.
    Thanks
    Karen

I am also having problems with pdfs exported from Illustrator and Indesign recently. I didn't have these problems before, so I don't kno if something has changed in my settings that I am unaware of.
When I use the 'japanese dots' border in Indesign, it shows on the pdf as a kind of dotted line. I'm exporting as 'High Quality Print'. I switched to Illustrator and drew a line with the pen tool, and converted it to a dotted line; it looked just how I wanted in in Illustrator, but as soon as I exported it, the same thing happened.
I have used the 'japanese dots' border in the past, exporting as 'High Quality Print', and not had this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
