Hairline Crack appeared on Z1 from walking around!

Hi, does anyone know if there is some fault with the Z1. I have a hairline crack that has appeared from walking around, sitting or something. It has not been dropped, or misused or anything like that. I'm having to pay for it to be repaired but I'm wondering if this is a fault on the handset due to it's nature of style.
It's certainly put me off buying sony products again as I feel that having a phone in your pocket and the screen crackinging, is not accidental damage, but a fault on the handset (I'm sure others will disagree).
Anyway, is this a common problem?
Alan

  • Lumia 900 - WEIRD - Hairline Crack appeared out of...

First let me start by telling:
    - I take amazing care of my phone and I DID NOT dropped the phone and neither did anyone else in my family
    - I always make sure that I don't even keep my car keys or wallet in the same pocket as the phone
    - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY LUMIA (best phone I ever bought....it is gorgeous and it works ...all the time)
The only thing I think that could have caused this is direct sunlight. Yesterday while coming back from work I had the phone on passenger seat and once I reached home after 20 mins I realized it may have been under direct sunlight ( it was a beautiful day....)
Then all of a sudden after a few hours I noticed this hairline crack and have been extremely puzzled...
Called Nokia Support and they gave me a reference number and asked me to sent it for repair.....

  • Hairline crack appeared inside screen

I've just noticed a hairline crack at the left side of the screen. There has been no impact of any kind that would have caused this and the damage looks internal rather than external(it's not scratch)and it's not affecting the touch or the colors.

this is a HD shots for the screen, to be easy to investigate in the problem.

  • Hairline crack around backside of LCD hinge

    Hello, all.
Does any Apple support people read this discussion group?
I would like to let them know about my issue.
I bought my MacBook early this year. It is a white MacBook.
Problem is that it started to show hairline crack around the bottom side of LCD hinge, where the bottom case starts and gap between the LCD and the bottom case.
So, I had it to be replaced at the Apple's Northrdige store. It was about 1 month ago. And from a few days ago, it started showing the crack again!
I have never dropped my Macbook and always carries by wrapping it. And my carrying case is also a shock-absorbing one. So, there is no chance that it was crashed or dropped.
I know this issue pretty well. There have been lots of reports and posts at many blogs. I suspect this is due to the plastic material and heat, and can't be fixed for good. If I have it to be fixed now, then it will show the crack in a few month again. It's just a matter of time.
I have been a long user of a Macintosh from the days of the Macintosh LC. (Also a long user of Windows/Dos and Unix machines. So, I know the quality history of many brands. ) I guess this kind of problem started from the days when the PC price went down too much. For Apple, this is my first time to see this kind of problem ( I know that some of you already suffered this with your Mac Cube and others. )
So, when will we have the quaility products Apple was so famous for back in 1980's again?
What shall I do with my MacBook? For this kind of problem, shouldn't Apple replace my machine with a new one?

*"Does any Apple support people read this discussion group?"*
Generally no. These are user-to-user forums
*"What shall I do with my MacBook? "*
Call Apple support and see what they'll do for you.
*"shouldn't Apple replace my machine with a new one?"*
    No. Not after only repairs.

  • Mobile not covered under warranty for hairline INTERNAL crack appearing without fall or any impact

    Job No. W115041604910
I own a Sony Xperia Z1 compact mobile, which I purchased on 29th July, 2014, and around 11th April, 2015, I started to face touch screen problem in the middle region of my mobile. I was playing games on my phone when this issue cropped up.
The issue was very strange as at times the phone would start typing on its own on security pin screen. This lead to all my data being erased!
Later, I noticed that the lower part of the front screen of my mobile had a hairline crack - this was strange as my phone did not have any fall or any impact that would result in an INTERNAL hairline crack with no impact on the exterior of the screen.
I took my mobile to the authorized Sony service center in Koramanagala (Vigneshwar Services) on 16th April, 2015 and on 23th April, 2015 I was provided an estimated bill of Rs. 6000/-.
When I escalated the case by writing to "[email protected]", after multiple call and email exchanges, I was provided the "management" response on the Sony letter head stating that "the display was broken and needs to be replaced for satisfactory working of the set and the service estimate for the faulty part is Rs. 6007/-."
I declined to approve the amount for my repair, as my phone is within the warranty period.
    Please go through the spec of Sony Xperia Z1 Compact on the below website, where it clearly says that the display is shatterproof;
    http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z1_compact-5753.php
Firstly, since the Spec claims that the glass is shatterproof, the crack on my mobile does not void the warranty.
Secondly, since the hairline crack on my mobile has appeared under "mysterious" circumstances and not a result of any fall or human error on my part, I decline paying any repair cost for my mobile. Also, this is an INTERNAL crack only, which will not appear due to a fall.
Thirdly, I should not be penalized for the faulty design issue for this model of Sony mobile.
At one point I would patronize with brand Sony, but sorry to say that is no longer true due to the trauma in dealing with Sony Service Center and Bangalore Regional Office.

I have already contacted the local Service Center and they are adamant on saying that I need to pay for the replacement of the front glass.
    My question;
    1. I have repeatedly told that my handset has an INTERNAL crack, which has appeared without any fall or impact. I believe that it is a design fault for which I SHOULD NOT be penalized.
    To support my words, I find that similar issues have been reported for the same model across the globe;
    http://conversation.which.co.uk/technology/sony-xperia-z-cracking-phone-screen-replacement-repair-wa...
Mine is not the only case wherein such cracks have developed. In UK, Sony has already confirmed this issue and agreed to replace the faulty units free of cost. Please read the link below and watch the video as well.
    http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/05/30/bbcs-watchdog-investigates-xperia-z1-cracking-screen-issue-sony...
If in UK, this issue has been owned up by Sony company, should the same not be done in India, as ultimately it is Sony and region should not be a bar for taking such decisions especially in case of design flaws.

  • Hairline Crack Illusion from Screen Protector?

    Hi,
I just got me new Iphone 5s from the verizon store . Long story short, they talked me into the case and screen protector which they installed. The screen protector is apparently tampered glass. I noticed there are two very small "specs" on the screen which you can only seen either with the back light on or shinning a light onto the screen. They look like very small horizontal hair line cracks at first glance.
At first, I thought some dust must of just got in between the screen protector and the phone's screen.I went back to the Verizon store to request them to put a new protector on without these two noticeable lines. The manager looked at the phone and said that it was a"optical illusion" from the way the glass from the protector is aligned with the iPhone screen. He then went on to say because it is not a defect, there was no warrant to replace the screen protector.
    So.
    1. Is the manager just giving me the ring around about this and just doesn't want to replace the screen protector or worse the phone if there is indeed a hairline crack with it. I could not find any information on this.
    2. I paid full retail price for the phone to keep unlimited data. Do you think Verizon should attempt to get rid of those lines? It kind of makes me upset that they tell me this after the fact they sell me the screen protector know all along that there is a chance of visual defect and not disclosing that.
    Thank You,
    Sam

I didn't mean to imply you hadn't been polite. My apologies. I just know that, sometimes, when people get frustrated with customer service that is less than they would like, especially with an expensive purchase, they can lose their cool. And I know, after 20 years in retail, that I will do anything I can to help a customer with a problem who still treats me with respect.
I haven't seen that problem with the tempered glass screen protectors. Doesn't mean it can't be the case. I think a flaw in the screen protector or an issue with it is much more likely than cracks on the phone screen itself, though.
    Best of luck.

  • International warranty: face glass with hairline crack across the face: My local icenter says that if the hairline crack was from top to bottom then it would be covered by the warranty

    Hi
I have been to my local icenter in Malta because of a hairline crack across the face of my newly purchased iphone 5c. They say that it will only fall under the warranty if the crack was from top to bottom and not across. Is this correct?
    Thank you

Did you contact your carrier about that? Your carrier will service the phone for you in Malta, and they can probably tell you more about that problem.

  • Advice from those with hairline cracks

I'm in the market for a used macbook but some of them that I'm looking at have a hairline crack like the ones that are discussed on this forum. *Will these cracks grow if not repaired?* I'm wondering if I should be concerned with macbooks that are past their 1 year warranty period (and no applecare) with hairline cracks.
    Thanks.

From what I understand, the cracks can continue to worsen until seperation of plastic starts.

  • Hairline-crack in Macbook Pro display-- what to do?

    Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro 13" that was bought in early February, and a few days ago I noticed a hairline crack (not a scratch) on the top left of my screen. it's met the centre left side of my display now. It's very thin and shallow, I initially thought it was actually a hair on my screen. Anyways, what's my best course of action? I've haven't taken my laptop around with me for a while, it's been sitting next to my bed for about a month, so nothing I can think of could have warranted the scratch except the cold weather that's been going through the country. Anyways, I'm a student, I can't afford to repair the display from Apple or by myself (unless I got Applecare, would it cover that?), what is my best course of action? I'm going back to school soon, so I'll be carrying around my laptop and want to avoid more damage. I was considering buying some Displex and a screen protector, but would that do anything? I scared that the crack would get larger and ruin the integrity of my display (even more so), and eventually I would like to get it fixed.

Only if they determine it's a manufacturing defect. Your only shot here is if it's within the original 1 year warranty. Which by the way, you have to buy Applecare within if you want it. As a student, you get a discount on Applecare and it's definitely worth having even if it doesn't cover this.

  • Hairline Crack in Screen

Hey, My iphone has a hairline crack for some unknown reason. It has never been dropped and its located directly above the home button. It points directly to the sim card slot so its straight line. Its small and sorta noticeable. May i get a replacement from apple? My iphone is about one month old.

AT&T doesn't provide iPhone warranty service in the USA - only Apple. You need to make an appointment with an Apple Store Genius Bar (don't walk in without an appt.).

  • Is it okay to walk around with "MacBook"

we just got wireless internet and my mom just walked back to my room and showed me a video on "you" "tube" & i was wondering if it hurts the laptop to be carried while its in use?
and can i get some more tips on taking care of our new "macbook"
    thanks =)

Its NOT a good idea to walk around with you Apple MB running IF you're walking down the halls of the Microsoft Campus. Hey, its not safe to drink coffee while using your MB also IF you are going to turn the cup upside down while it's over the keyboard.
Otherwise, its a question of how safe you want to be. I've been walking around my home with every laptop I've ever owned without ANY problems. The only thing you have to be aware of is that you're getting "out on the edge" if you were to trip and end up toss the MB at the same time. ANYTIME I carry my MB and especially while it's running, I'm especially careful about where I'm stepping and other surrounding that might make me drop it if I were to bump into them.
Life's too short to never take a teeny step out on the edge.
Another thing to consider. Most laptops are built pretty sturdy. A few years ago I had an IBM Thinkpad that was a pretty good notebook, but like all of them, it came time to get a better one. So I advertised in on Craigslist, made a contact to sell and while I was waiting for the buyer to come over to pick it up, it fell off my kitchen counter and bounced on the hardwood floor. I figured it was toast, but I went ahead and turned it on and it booted right up. Not a ding one on it. I sold the computer with a 2 week guarantee and never heard from my buyer again so I assume there no damage that I didn't notice.
So, live a little and carry it around when you want to share something with your family or friends and I doubt you'll ever have a problem.
As far as the Apple warning about moving while the computer is on, that's their lawyer talk. Same as the warning about not using a hairdryer in the bathtub.

  • Hairline cracks near the power button :-(

Hello everyone!!  this is my first post here... so sad that it has to be a negative one.  i dont know if someone else has posted this topic, but i dont really have time at this precise moment to check.
i have a small hairline fracture just about the power button.  i did absolutely nothing to cause this crack.  my mother also has this tiny little crack in the same place.  i guess its just a flaw in the materials used for the device.  but, this is really frustrating because im afraid it might crack all the way, and then im stuck without a phone.  also, my power button is a little flimsy, and i dont abuse this phone because it is my first smartphone, and i need it to work properly for two years before i can upgrade to one of those pretty and bright new centros.
my question is... why are these same things happening to so many other palm centro users (the hairline crack mostly)??  palm workers, please look into this issue.  i dont think you want to have a bunch of palm centro users returning their phones to the stores because of these little cracks that are a HUGE problem.  in fact, i dont think you even want to sell a product that has a defect like this to begin with!  i love my phone, i love palm, but i DONT want a device with flaws the second time around.  if i could i would take it back to the store, but i am out of warranty and without insurance. perhaps there is a way that i could still get a new/ refurbished one for a minimal fee (NOT full price)?  it has happened to me before.... one of my old phones had issues with the screen and i took it and i got a refurbished replacement for 30 dollars.  the replacement worked perfectly fine.  if this is possible with the centro please let me know because i will go the sprint store in a heart beat.  in fact, if i get a wonderful refurbished phone without cracks i might not even upgrade because the newer one is almost the same (although more memory is nice..... if you guys release a purple colored one to sprint then i will definitely upgrade because thats my favorite color.... you might want to keep that in mind ).  what worries me is the crack and the power button.  i need help.... any suggestions??

  • A bug is walking around inside my screen! Possible to clean?

Yesterday I saw a bug walking around happy inside my 24". I got livid as I can do nothing about it but watching it crawling around inside.
So, is there any way to clean this out? I've read posts stating the screen is possible to take of using some sucking device and pull it off (just like the iMac). Is it easy to put back in? Is this even true?
I really can't live with this bug, even if it dies it will probably just stay there.
And I thought it was air-tight.

I have the same problem but more bugs.
There is a type of fly in the uk that arrives with stormy weather. They are called 'Thunder flies' and are black, around 2 mm long by 0.2mm wide - do you know them? I have 3 of them walking around the inside of my 1 month old 24" screen. It is being collected tomorrow and then being cleaned and sent back to me. I have raised a concern regarding this problem if it happens outside warranty as I can see it happening again. At the moment is is not clear whether it is a seal problem (seal may have not been fitted correctly) or a design problem where there is an open path from the outside to the back of the screen.

  • Hairline crack and Apple Care

Recently I visited Apple Store Northridge again to have my MacBook white repaired for crack on top panel and hairline crack on back-bottom panel.
At Genius bar, they told me that Apple doesn't replace the bottom panel if it is not covered by Apple Care. So, they just replaced the top panel only.
Should I buy an Apple Care? Also, isn't this defect? I usually use computers very long time. I still use a PowerPC 17" iMac home. MacBook is pretty fast for the most of work, i.e. programming, I think I will be able to use it even longer. However, if the cases have this problem, I can't use it long enough.
Shouldn't Apple do this something on this issue?
Why do they still sell the white MacBook, even though everybody knows the defect?
Shouldn't Apple provide some program like "return your old white/black Macbook, and take a new Unibody MacBook Pro 13" with extra fee."?

It sounds like there is more to the story. What is a "hairline" crack? Is this machine still under warranty? If there are obvious defects and cracks, I'm sure Apple will fix anything while the machine is still under warranty - standard or extended AppleCare. If the problem is "normal wear and tear", they won't replace it for free under any circumstances.
Should I buy an Apple Care?
I would. It isn't too expensive and they don't hassle you. I just had the top case and AC adapter replaced on my 2 year, 10 month old Macbook.
    Also, isn't this defect?
Maybe, maybe not. That area isn't one of the "typical" crack spots on that machine. There are a lot of these machines around and Apple knows where they are going to crack. If yours cracks in an unusual place, you will have a more difficult time making the "defect" case as opposed to "wear and tear" or "abuse".
However, if the cases have this problem, I can't use it long enough.
Why not? I used my cracked Macbook for almost 3 years. I could have had it fixed at any time, but I didn't bother as it was only cosmetic. I waited until I bought a new machine and then got it fixed while still under AppleCare. If you do plan to use machines for a long time, AppleCare is an even better idea.
Shouldn't Apple do this something on this issue?
Why do they still sell the white MacBook, even though everybody knows the defect?
What issue? Do you have any pictures or anything. The crack near the IR port on the top right is well known. Most Apple stores will fix that while you wait. If you have a crack somewhere else, you are just a customer with an odd crack no one has seen before.
I can't speculate about what Apple sells. I can observe that people still like to buy these machines and Apple fixes the top case cracks on all of them.
Shouldn't Apple provide some program like "return your old white/black Macbook, and take a new Unibody MacBook Pro 13" with extra fee."?
They do. The fee is $1199.
