Handling "$" in a String

Hi there,
I am trying to manipulate two strings. One of the string contains $ (not \$) character, reads from a file.
For example:
String str1 = Replace XYZ with;
String str2 = The value is $10.00; // read from a file
I used replaceAll method to replace the XYZ in str1 with str2.
Str1 = str1.replaceAll(XYZ, str2);
The replaceAll method throws an Exception
java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: No group 1
at java.util.regex.Matcher.group(Matcher.java:355)
at java.util.regex.Matcher.appendReplacement(Matcher.java:578)
at java.util.regex.Matcher.replaceAll(Matcher.java:646)
at java.lang.String.replaceAll(String.java:1710)
at testchar.TestChar.main(TestChar.java:22)
The stream in the file is The value is $10.00. I can not change $ to \$ in a file. If so, then the replace--- does its job.
I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.
Thank you
With regards
Jo

try loading str2 from the file then calling replace on it to replace
the "$" with "<dollar>". Perform your substitution on this new string.
Then call replace on the resulting string to replace "<dollar>" with
"$" again.

• Memory Issue - Handling array of strings in table

Hello Everyone,
I find trouble in handling a table of strings. The number of rows could vary from 5000 - 10000 whereas the number of columns will be 70. So when I load the string data and view it, labview is consuming much of the memory. Also, I will be performing operations like sorting on this data and will be displaying again. Is there are any alternative or any efficient method for handling this situation?
Thanks,
Vasanth.
Ya Ya

Hi Vasanth,
keep in mind you have 70*5,000(10,000)=350,000(700,000) strings! You have to multiply this number by the length of the strings (and to add some overhead like storing string length for each string...) to get the amount of needed memory .
Sorting this amount of data takes time and requires additional data copies (you probably sort row by row?). And you easily create data copies in memory due to data processing...
Why not use a subset for display? You can make your own scroll bar. This way the user selects the displayed selection of data.
The user scrolls through the data. When he selects an item the index is put into a indicator (using event structure). Then the user can press a button (or select from a ring) to start an action like 'delete'.

• Handling long XML strings in XSLT

I am creating an XML string dynamically to feed to my XSLT processing servlet. In a prototype I did this by passing the XML as a string to a routing servlet that then calls HttpResponse.sendRedirect() with the name of the XSLT processing servlet and the XML string like this :
redirectString = "/WardenConfig/servlet/XSLTServlet?xslPage=" + nextPage + "&xmlSourceString=" + XMLData ;
where XMLData is the dynamically built XML and nextPage is an XSL stylesheet. Then I send use this to send it all to the servlet that processes the XSL and displays the result :
response.sendRedirect( redirectString );
The problem is that when I get a lot of data in the XML string this does not work. I think this might be because sendRedirect() uses the GET method but I am not sure. SO I had two questions :
1) Is that the problem - the GET method, I mean ?
2) What's a better way to do this ?
thanks in advance !!

Will do, Doctor. I appreciate your quick help ! Is that the way most people handle this ?
By the way, if you can tell me how to award Duke Dollars, I would like to do that. For some reason I can't do it anymore .. used to be able to ... feel lame ...
Thanks again.

• Unable to handle the java String

Hi,
I am unable to handle string object(character array) using the negative byte values.
for eg: if i am forming a String Object using byte array which is having negative values(like -127,-118) i am not getting correct ascii value instead i am getting '?' .
Put some light on this.
Thanx in advance.

"-127" -> as an unsigned byte: 129 -> ASCII only
ranges up to 128Add 256 to your negative byte values. It will give correct characters for ur generated string.

• Standard/common handling void main(String argv[])

i would like to have a parent class to handle the void main(String argv[]), but I can't instantiate my child class because I dun know it's name.
any way to get that? or any alternative way to handle the void main(String argv[]) in common? million thanks.
eg:
public abstract class parent {
public static void main(String argv[]){
// i need to know which child is been run by java childclass
// so that I can instantiate a new object and call the run method
public abstract void run();
public class child1 extends parent{
public void run(){}
public class child2 extends parent{
public void run(){}
}

Class.forName(name).newInstance();
provided I know name=what, right?
how do I know ppl calling using
java child1?
or
java child2?
both will go use same
public static void main(String argv[])
in parent class.

• Oracle JDBC driver does not handle Java empty strings correctly

If you store a Java empty string in a VARCHAR column, then try to retrieve it,
you get back a null.
Can someone from Oracle JDBC development
explain why this is not a bug? An empty
string is not the same as a null.

Hello!
Although all together different, but DATE type also behaves same way.
inserting createdate = NULL in database returns you blank on select query
inserting createdate= '' returns null on select. Correct me if i am wrong.

• How to handle spaces in string?

Hi,
I am trying to filter out servers and certain OS from my powershell line below but I am getting an error. I think it is because of the Mac OS X line with spaces?:
The string is missing the terminator: '
$AllADClientObjects=@(Get-ADComputer -Filter "operatingSystem -notlike '*server*'" -and "operatingSystem -notlike '*"'Mac OS X'*'" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue)

Try this:
$AllADClientObjects = @(Get-ADComputer -Filter "operatingSystem -notlike '*server*' -and operatingSystem -notlike '*Mac OS X*'")
You shouldn't need the -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue when using filter because if it doesn't find anything, it will not throw an error like if you used -Identity.

• How to handle xml CDATA string element when OSB calling a webservice

Hi
Right, I'm new to OSB so bear with me.
The following is a response from am operation in a webservice.
As you can see there is a CDATA string in "<m:return>" element. I want to transform the CDATA string to XML.
I have searched the forum and found a couple of similar queries and tried following the answers and this is what I'm getting.
Please advise as to where I have gone wrong and how I can correct it.
<env:Body xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<m:ReservationCancelResponse xmlns:m="http://domain/jws">
<m:return>
<ReservationCancelNegativeAck><MessageId>HGv2OWS6hq</MessageId><ReservationNum>1234</ReservationNum><CsrId></CsrId><ErrorCode>02</ErrorCode><ErrorMessage>Reservation '1234' does not exist.</ErrorMessage></ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
</m:return>
</m:ReservationCancelResponse>
</env:Body>
In my response pipeline I have an Assign and Replace action.
My Assign is:
Expression: fn-bea:inlinedXML($body)
Variable: reservationCancelReponse
When I log $reservationCancelReponseI get... so this bit is OK.
<ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
<MessageId>HGv2OWS6hq</MessageId>
<ReservationNum>1234</ReservationNum>
<CsrId/>
<ErrorCode>02</ErrorCode>
<ErrorMessage>Reservation '1234' does not exist.</ErrorMessage>
</ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
My Replace
XPath: executeResponse/executeReturn/text()
In Variable: body
Expression: responseTransform.xq (binding with $reservationCancelReponse)
Replace Node Contents is checked
When I test the operation using the proxy service I get the following:
<env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<env:Header/>
<env:Body>
<m:ReservationCancelResponse xmlns:m="http://com/ventyx/abws/jws">

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><ReservationCancelNegativeAck><MessageId>HGv2OWS6hq</MessageId><ReservationNum>1234</ReservationNum><CsrId></CsrId><ErrorCode>02</ErrorCode><ErrorMessage>Reservation '1234' does not exist.</ErrorMessage></ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
</m:return>
</m:ReservationCancelResponse>
</env:Body>
</env:Envelope>
The CDATA string hasn't been transformed.
Please help. What I have I missed.
Thanks in advance.

OK
I have made some amendments to the original process and made some progress but still isn't quite right.
I have created a schema:
<complexType name="ReservationCancelNegativeAckType">

<element name="MessageId" minOccurs="0">

I have amended the earlier Assign action to use an XQ to extract the CDATA string into the schema
My Assign is:
Expression: responseToSchema.xq
Variable: reservationCancelReponse
When I log $reservationCancelReponse variable I get... so this bit is OK.
<ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
<MessageId>HGv2OWS6hq</MessageId>
<ReservationNum>1234</ReservationNum>
<CsrId/>
<ErrorCode>02</ErrorCode>
<ErrorMessage>Reservation '1234' does not exist.</ErrorMessage>
</ReservationCancelNegativeAck>
I have also changed my Replace, this time I am using an XQ which will map the schema to the XSD WSDL "ReservationCancelResponse"operation.
XPath: .
In Variable: body
Expression: responseFromSchemaToService.xq (binding with $reservationCancelReponse)
Replace Node Contents is checked
XSD WSDL is:
<xsd:element name="ReservationCancelResponse"
type="tns:ReservationCancelResponseType">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:complexType name="ReservationCancelResponseType">
<xsd:sequence>
<xsd:element name="ResponseCode"
type="xsd:string">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="ResponseDescription"
type="xsd:string">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="MessageID" type="xsd:string">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="ReservationNum" type="xsd:string">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="CsrId" type="xsd:string">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="ErrorCode" type="xsd:string"
minOccurs="0">
</xsd:element>
<xsd:element name="ErrorDescription" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="0"></xsd:element>
</xsd:sequence>
</xsd:complexType>
This time the response is better but not right.
<soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<env:Header xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"/>
<env:Body xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<app:ReservationCancelResponse xmlns:app="http://www.example.org/AppointmentService/">
<ResponseCode>0</ResponseCode>
<ResponseDescription/>
<MessageID/>
<ReservationNum/>
<CsrId/>
</app:ReservationCancelResponse>
</env:Body>
</soapenv:Envelope>
As you can see the tags are empty. (For info: The "ResponseCode" and "ResponseDescription" are constants)
Where have I gone wrong?

• Most efficient way to handle Strings?

I've heard that Strings are immutable, so you should use StringBuffers. For example, lets say you have an array of Strings called testArray...
String matchMe = "";
for (int i = 0 ; i < testArray.length ; i++)
matchMe = resultOfSomeExpression;
if (testArray.equals(matchMe))
doSomeOperation;
...matchMe = resultOfSomeExpression will produce a new String object every time you go through the loop. So I've heard you're supposed to make matchMe a StringBuffer and use StringBuffer.replace() to reset it. That seems really cumbersome to me. I've been using StringBuffers as much as possible, but it requires a lot more code that just using Strings. What do other people do? What's the best procedure?
Ethan

The best procedure is what works best for you - but, what I suggest is that you use a String object when you don't plan on modifying it, and that you use a StringBuffer object if you're going to modify a sequence of characters or will construct strings dynamically. The rationale behind this is that behind the scene the compiler uses StringBuffer to handle concantenation of strings.

• Image Handles and Flattern to String

Hi All,
I have an 8bit image, load an image to it, and then learn is as a template for pattern matching.
Next I want to flatten the image handle into a string, unflatten it and then use it.
Unfortunately, once unflattend I find that the pattern matching information is no longer available. The image itself is intact, but not the pattern information.
Has anyone seen this before? Come up with a fix/work around?
Thanks for you help

Hi Greg,
thanks for the response.
To answer your question: IMAQ Vision - 7.0.0 and LV - 7.1
I seem to have found out what the issue is.
It appears that when I use a flatten to string function on an image handle the resulting string includes all the image data, not simply the flattened handle.
To overcome this problem I used a cast function on the image handle to cast it to a string, and then cast that string back to an image handle. Using this operation the string is simply the same text as the image handle, and once cast back to the image handle the image still contains the pattern information
So why is the flatten to string behaving differently for an image handle then it would for any other type of data?
Again, thanks for your hel
p.

• Adapter Engine handling for CDATA in XML

Gurus:
I had a question on the Dapter Engines behavious, specifically the SOAP Sender.
The Source is sending something like:
<Data><response><forms><EMP_NAME>Howard Roark</EMP_NAME><PERNR>P1111111</PERNR><WORKAUTH></WORKAUTH><HR_NAME>Scott Manager</HR_NAME><HR_PNUM>P1234567</HR_PNUM><ESIG>Scott Manager</ESIG><ELECTRONIC_SIGNATURE>Scott Manager (electronically signed)</ELECTRONIC_SIGNATURE><ESIG_VERIFICATION>Scott.Manager [Tue Jun 2 12:03:56 EDT 2009]</ESIG_VERIFICATION><ESIG_DATE>06/02/2009</ESIG_DATE></forms></response></Data>
</GetFormXMLResult>
What the Integration Engine sees is the Data elelment with the CDATA section trimmed, i.e., it sees:
<Data> <response><forms><EMP_NAME>Howard Roark</EMP_NAME><PERNR>P1111111</PERNR><WORKAUTH></WORKAUTH><HR_NAME>Scott Manager</HR_NAME><HR_PNUM>P1234567</HR_PNUM><ESIG>Scott Manager</ESIG><ELECTRONIC_SIGNATURE>Scott Manager (electronically signed)</ELECTRONIC_SIGNATURE><ESIG_VERIFICATION>Scott.Manager [Tue Jun 2 12:03:56 EDT 2009]</ESIG_VERIFICATION><ESIG_DATE>06/02/2009</ESIG_DATE></forms></response> </Data>
Is this an issue with the Aapter Engine, or has anyone come accross this before? This is on PI7.0 SPS 13.
Thanks
Feroz

Hi,
the CDATA section should not be a problem. It's mostly used to include information / XML in one tag and to include special characters that should not be changed or ignored by the system. All informaiton within a CDATA element is ignored by PI and handled as "blackbox" string. PI just receives it and passes it out without really looking what's inside the tag.
If you want to extract what's inside the CDATA element, you need to use an XSLT in your mapping (see: Handling CDATA in PI)

• "Using a CIN to Create an Array of Strings in LabVIEW" example crashes LV on Linux

Tried to utilize this NI example: "Using a CIN to Create an Array of Strings in LabVIEW" (http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.display_epd4?p_guid=B4B282BE7EF907C8E034080020E74861&p_node=&p_source=External)
Compiles OK with the makefile made by the LV's lvmkmf utility. Nevertheless when I try to run the VI (with the code loaded into the CIN, of course), LabVIEW 7.1.1 on a SUSE 9.3 Linux machine crashes:
LabVIEW caught fatal signal
7.1.1 - Received SIGSEGV
Reason: address not mapped to object
Attempt to reference address: 0x0
Segmentation fault
Any ideas? Did anybody try this on a Windows machine?

This code is badly broken. In addition to resizing the actual handle to hold the number of string handles you also would need to create the string handles itself before attempting to write into them. NumericArrayResize is the fucntion to use as it will either resize an existing handle (if any) or create a new one if the value is uninitialized (NULL).
/* resize strarr to hold handles to NUMSTRINGS strings */
err = SetCINArraySize((UHandle)strarr, 0, NUMSTRINGS);
if (err)
goto out;
/* perform this loop once for each element */
/* of array of strings being created */
for (i = 0; i < NUMSTRINGS;) {
LStrHandle handle = (*strarr)->arg1[i];
/* determine length of string that will be element of strarr */
strsize = StrLen(str[i]);
err = NumericArrayResize(uB, 1, &handle, strsize);
if (err)
goto out;
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
/* moves strsize bytes from the address pointed to */
/* by str[i] to the address pointed to by the data pointer in the handle */
MoveBlock(str[i], LStrBuf(*handle), strsize);
/* manually set size of string pointed to by *strarr */
(*((*strarr)->arg1[i]))->cnt = strsize;
/* manually set dimSize of strarr */
(*strarr)->dimSize = ++i;
return noErr;
out:
return err;

• Reg : Cross browser issue while handling LOV event on KeyFlexFeild

Hi OA Gurus,
We are encountering issues on R12.0.6, JDev 120Rup6.
We have the following test case and code changes.
Requirement:
We have OA page where we have one KeyFlexFeild item and a normal LOV. Page items are part of one AM and LOV is in another AM.
The requirement was to make LOV dependent on keyFlexfeild. Test case is mentioned as per following flow.
1. User changes cost center segment of Accounting Flex(Key flex) using Cost center LOV.
2. Another LOV in the same page should be dependent on new value of cost center as modified in step 1.
Solution Implemented:
Describing in the 3 steps
1) Here the KeyFlexFeild is expense account. Whenever User changes any segment, we handle
‘lovValidate’ and ‘lovUpdate’ events on KeyFlexFeild in processFormRequest of controller.
2) Retrieve the value of cost center segment using getSegmentsQualifiedBy(), Update corresponding VO attribute of the LOV query parameter.
3) Forward the request to current page so that LOV will have modified value with updated query.
4) Forwarding to current page is must because LOV is built with another AM and will loaded only when page is built.
Issue:
This works fine on internet explorer. When trying to run the same in Mozilla we have following issue
1) User modifies one of the segments of expense account and make a tab – out
2) Now the page refresh happens
3) Now in the same page no other LOV or no other button works. He can’t click on any button for submit or cancel.
LOVs will not open even after clicking on it.
Code changes:
//Step1 – Handle LOV events
String source = pageContext.getParameter(SOURCE_PARAM);
String eventType = pageContext.getParameter(EVENT_PARAM);
if(source !=null && eventType != null) {
if(source.startsWith("Acct") && eventType.equals("lovUpdate") || eventType.equals("lovValidate") ) {
KeyFlexfield flex = (KeyFlexfield)lkff.getAttributeValue(OAWebBeanConstants.FLEXFIELD_REFERENCE);
// Step -2 Updating the corresponding VO attribute for LOV to get the modified the value
Segment[ ] segmentL = flex.getSegmentsQualifiedBy(FA_COST_CTR");
CostCenterValue = segmentL[0].getValue().getValue();
if(CostCenterValue != null ){
sampleViewObject.getCurrentRow().setAttribute("ToCostCenter",CostCenterValue);
OAFormValueBean formValueBean = (OAFormValueBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("ToCostCenter");
if(formValueBean != null)
formValueBean.setValue(pageContext, CostCenterValue);
OAMessageLovInputBean formValueBean1 = (OAMessageLovInputBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("ReceivingApprover");
if(formValueBean1 != null)
formValueBean1.setValue(pageContext, null);
else
sampleViewObject.getCurrentRow().setAttribute("ToCostCenter",null);
//Step 3 – Forward the request Current Page again
pageContext.setForwardURLToCurrentPage(null, true, ADD_BREAD_CRUMB_YES, (byte)0);
We have following questions.
a) Solution implemented by us is correct ? or we have to implement it in another way ?
b) Is OA version mentioned above supported on Mozilla browser version 3.x ? This issue is not occurring on Mozilla 1.x while running from JDev.
Please let us know if any additional details required.
Thanks for help in advance.
