Hello,
My hard drive crashed on the weekend and I lost several purchases I made through iTunes. Is it possible to get permission to re-download them?

Are they synced to an iPod? If so, you can transfer purchases from iPod to computer. Apple is not obligated to let you download purchases a second time. This is why it's important to have a backup.

Due to a hard drive crash I lost my entire Itunes library. Majority of this was from an extensive CD library that I imported into itunes. If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod. And here is a guide about how to transfer ipod songs back to computer. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

My hard drive crashed so I had to have everything reinstalled on my laptop. Is there any way I can get iTunes to download the songs back into it from my iPod? I heard of Senuti, but that only works for MAC users, and I'm on Windows XP. Any suggestions? TIA!

1) Make sure you can view hidden files. In MY computer go to tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders.
2) Windows should see the ipod and your music should be on your ipod in several hidden folders. To be safe I would copy it all to say your desktop.
3) Install Itunes http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and the Ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ (if you don't already have it installed)
After that drag the copied folder to Itunes (drag and drop or in Itunes (File>add folder to library)
4) Plug ipod back in Itunes should see it and want to delete the contents say yes as it should all now be in your library.
YOu may need to authorise Itunes music store again by playing one of the purchased songs and than logging into your account.

Old hard drive crashed, cannot get iTunes to find files

Please help. Been working on this for weeks and can't get it right. Am at my wit's end:
Old hard drive crashed; had new one installed. Tech person was able to find my iTunes on old drive and saved to thumbdrive. Downloaded most recent software and synced iPod - it "read" some of what was on it but would not play anything. tried to consolidate libraries/import from thumbdrive, then could view my whole library, but when I try to play any song it says it cannot locate the original file - does not matter if i purchased it from iTunes or added from CD. This computer is authorized, I've tried all the other "tutorials," added files (didn't work), tried using my iPod to xfer music to new computer - didn't work. I have my old hard drive booted and ready to go, can see the files and have copied them direct from drive to drive, still didn't work (followed the directions to keep music folder organized, etc.) What am I doing wrong?? I can't use my iTunes at all - just downloaded three new songs and that's all I can play from it. iPod itself seems unaffected.

Hi, you said you still have access to your old hard drive.
Can you move the entire itunes folder from the old to the new?
Not just the 'itunes music' folder - you need the parent folder of that.
It has an important file named itunes library.itl that holds ratings, play counts and the paths to your music files.
Copy that entire itunes folder and all its subfolders over to the new PC.
Press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes and choose the ITL file you just copied over.

If your iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes you need to take care connecting it to an empty library.
1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
Alternatively open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok. Then connect your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

Hard drive crashed! Now itunes wants to erase ipod in order to sync?

My hard drive crashed and I lost my itunes library. Now, when I want to sync the ipod with new music I've purchased it looks like itunes wants to erase everything on my ipod first. Am I correct? There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more. Just be aware that what you'll be recovering will be photos optimised for the iPod so they won't be the same quality as the original full resolution versions:

Hard drive crashed cannot download music from iTunes Match

Hello,
I had a fairly extensive music collection and recently i had to get a new hard drive. I didn't think it would be a big deal because i had always updated itunes Match. But iTunes match isn't showing me my library to download my music again.
Did i completely misunderstand iTunes Match? Do i have to start over?
All the music properly downloads on my iphone but not my mac.

Computer Hard Drive Crashed-How do I get songs FROM ipod to iTunes on comp?

I have tried the "Transfer Purchases from Ipod" and then it gives me an error message that the computer is not "authorized". I go thru the authorization process and it tells the authorization was successful, but then when I re-try the Transfer, I get the same message!!! Help!!!

This might help...
Plug in the iPod and open iTunes. Now go to the top and click 'File' go down till you see 'Transfer Purchases from "(the name of the iPod)'. Doing this will retreve all of the purchased songs off the iPod. The songs that were put on with CDs are easy to replace. If some songs don't show up your lolcal library might have the CDs.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

After hard drive crash cant restore itunes library off ipod

My hard drive cracked it and had to send off the whole computer and get a new one put in...so i have lost everything...after updating my mac to get all applications and program versions back to where they were but my itunes is empty of course...now i cant figure out how to get my songs from my ipod which is synced with the old HD. so how can i get the songs from my ipod to the new itunes?!?!

HT4527 My laptop hard drive crashed

My Laptop Hard Drive Crashed - I have over 800 songs imported from CD's. Don't believe HomeSharing was on. Cannot get to I-tunes on the laptop to turn on. Is there any way to get to this music without having to import every CD again.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Have you failed to do this?
