Have an iphone4...what would happen when I connect my 3G to itunes?

I have changed phones to the iPhone4 but still own my iphone 3G. I want to use it as basically a 'gaming' console and leave all the apps on it that were there before the transfer.
However, I failed to unsynch some things (like photos) that I can't manually delete because I only get a 'share' or 'copy' function.
If I connect this phone to itunes with the purpose of 'unsynching' things like photos, contacts, etc?, will that make the phone completely unusable?
Unfortunately, no way to test this out so I was hoping someone had an answer for me.
Thanks in advance.

You'll be able to use your 3G as an iPod Touch. My wife upgraded her 3G to a 4, too. What you need to do is power off your 3G, then remove the SIM Card. When you power back up, iPhone 3G will warn you about a missing 3G card. Ignore the warning, it'll go away soon enough.
Plug your 3G into iTunes, and run a manual backup. That will back up messages, photos, app data (not the apps themselves), and settings. When it's done, plug in your iPhone 4 and you should be able to do a data restore. We did this for my wife's phone.
After that's done, you can either wipe your iPhone 3G or you can do a complete recovery/upgrade to iOS 4.
Have fun!

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

Highly unlikely that it says any such thing.
Try telling us exactly what version of iTunes is installed and what if any messages appears when trying to update it.
What Operating System is the computer running?

  • What would happen if you connected audio out to audio in?

the audio in/out ports on the back -- what would happen if you connected them? if i were, say, playing a youtube video and had an audio editing app open, would it record the audio? (yes, i'm aware that there are better ways to capture said audio but i'm just wondering if this is what would happen.) or would the computer explode?
    Message was edited by: MontereyMatt

There should not be any problem with doing that. The audio output is just regular output, so it would be the same as plugging in an iPod to the audio input.
But as you said, there are better ways to record the audio the iMac is currently playing.

  • MY PC WAS REFORMATTED. WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN I CONNECT MY IPOD TO MY PC NOW

    Hi everyone!
My pc was recently formatted, and now I want to add new songs to my iPod. What will happen to the songs in my iPod when i connect it to the newly formatted PC? (not all songs in my iPod are in my PC anymore).
Is there a way I can get all my songs from my iPod to my PC? If there is a way, would the songs remain organized from the iPod to the PC? Coz I am very organized with my iTunes and iPod, every artist, genre, album title is fixed.
Would the PC automatically update my iPod? I know there is a setting in iTunes where I could choose if iTunes updates my iPod automatically or manually, but I can't seem to find it. I'm afraid to connect my iPod now to my PC because this might erase and foul up my songs in my iPod.
    Thanks and please help.
    Chad

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Edit>Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    iGadget Windows Only
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

  • What would happened when one RAC node's public NIC down ?

    Dear all,
There's a two-node RAC on my office. As my observation, when one RAC node's public NIC is down, the "crs_stat -t" command wouldn't show any resource is OFFLINE. So at this moment if i use sqlplus to connect to my RAC db, it still will choose node1 or node2 instance randomly right? And if i've been assigned to the node's instance whose public NIC is down, my sqlplus would failed to connect to db?
So, can we say that Oracle RAC can't supply HA function if one node's public NIC is down? Or is there just any other solution to solve this issue? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Public node is down means that only one node would be able to take the load i.e. in your case it will be Node 2. It may happen that CRS is unable to record the status - in such case there may be failed connections to one node.

  • What happens when i connect to itunes when ive used icloud since i first got my device?

Ive always used icloud but now i have ran out of storage i want to back up my devices using itunes, what will happen when i connect my device to itunes for ythe first time? I am using Windows 8.1 and have 3 apple devices (Ipod touch 5, ipad 2, an a ipad mini original)
    Thanks in advance!

Yes - if you try to sync, then it will tell you that it is a new device and everything will be erased. When you sync, you are syncing with the data in the actual iTunes Library. You select which Apps, Music, Movies, TV, Photos, Books, etc. that you want to sync to your device in the Device Profile tabs that will display in iTunes when you hook up your device. Whatever you have selected will sync to your device.
If you have your Contacts, Notes, Calendars, etc. already checked to sync with iCloud (not backup, but the items that are tuned on under Settings>iCloud on both your device and your computer), then those will not get replaced.
If everything on your device is purchased from the iTunes Store, you can download it all to your computer by going to the appropriate tab in the iTunes Store, click on Purchased under the Quick Links section to the right, and then download anything that has a cloud next to it.

  • If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?

If I have converted my purchased iTunes songs to a lower bit rate what will happen when I join iTunes match? Will they match up or will these be stored as duplicates of the same song?
I ask because I primarily use my work laptop which has limited space so I usually convert my purchases to 160k from 256k in order to save space. I want to sign up for iTunes Match but I'd like to know before I do so I can understand how I will have to set up my library.

What I may do is start a brand new library there, copy my tracks from my work laptop using Home Share and then the script to get things in sync before starting over again there too.
Why create a new library? Just add the tracks from the laptop to the existing library on the Mac.
    crichton007 wrote:
I was just hoping to hear definitively whether or not there was some sort of intelligence built into iTunes Match that would match these up...
How do you mean? If you down-convert purchased tracks you've fundamentally changed the files so iTunes can no longer recoginize them as "purchased." And, indeed, they no longer are since they are brand new files. Of course these new files will only be "matched" or "uploaded."

Yes. Other things have synced including books, but I don't know how these happened. According to the 'audible' instructions it should happen automatically, but it doesn't.

I just backed up my mac to an external hard drive using Time Machine. What would happen if I turn Time Machine off and then plug the external hard drive back into my computer?
What I am ultimately wanting to do is make more room on my computer by backing up all of my files onto the external hard drive and then deleting them off of my computer. However, neededing to be able to retrieve them from the external hard drive later down the road.
From what I have read and am trying to understand, is that I probably shouldn't have used time machine. I need to use the external hard drive like a basic flash drive where I can put things on and get things off without having it automatically update through time machine everytime I connect it to my computer.
Not tech savvy at all and barely understand basics. I need very simple and easy to understand explanations.

BIG BIG MISTAKE ..... youre making a linchpin deathtrap for your data trying to shove everything on a single fragile HD.
Dont suffer the tragedy other people make, buy another or 2 more HD, theyre cheap as dust.
The number of people who have experienced terror by having a single external HD backup is enormous.  One failure that WILL HAPPEN, and kaput,......all gone!
Dont do it, its all about redundancy, redundancy, redundancy.
    follow here:
Methodology to protect your data. Backups vs. Archives. Long-term data protection
Deleting them off your computer is fine....having only ONE copy is extremely BAD.
The Tragedy that will be, the tragedy that never should be
Always presume correctly that your data is priceless and takes a very long time to create and often is irreplaceable. Always presume accurately that hard drives are extremely cheap, and you have no excuse not to have multiple redundant copies of your data copied on hard drives and squirreled away several places, lockboxes, safes, fireboxes, offsite and otherwise.
Hard drives aren't prone to failure…hard drives are guaranteed to fail (the very same is true of SSD). Hard drives dont die when aged, hard drives die at any age, and peak in death when young and slowly increase in risk as they age.
Never practice at any time for any reason the false premise and unreal sense of security in thinking your data is safe on any single external hard drive. This is never the case and has proven to be the single most common horrible tragedy of data loss that exists.
Many 100s of millions of hours of lost work and data are lost each year due to this single common false security. This is an unnatural disaster that can avoid by making all data redundant and then redundant again. If you let a $60 additional redundant hard drive and 3 hours of copying stand between you and years of work, then you've made a fundamental mistake countless 1000s of people each year have come to regret.

  • What's happening when Word opens and saves a document?

    Hello,
I got very unspecific question, but I don't know where to start. I have an open xml document which gets generated by a third party tool. If I open the document using open xml sdk it looks VERY different from how it looks like when I opened and saved it before
    using Word 2013.
I'm trying to get an understanding on whats Word doing! From what I've seen it's doing some remodelling on the xml file, since it looks very different (other and way more descendants than before) and I would like to achieve the same thing using open xml.
Although this might be already to much information: The generated word documents contains html code with links to pictures. After Word has touched the file the picture is inside a drawing element, before it's not but in Word both versions look the same.
I'm thankful for any help you can give me.
    Cheers Andreas

This forum is discussing about Open XML developing. This is not exactly an OpenXML SDK questions. To be frank, I do not know exactly what Word opens and saves a documents either (this is the implementation details of the product).
If you are interested on it, the forum below might be more appropriate for you:

What do you mean by “other and way more descendants”? Do you mean that you want to add new nodes in the xml document? In my option, different objects in word have different nodes. You could refer the link below for more information about Word processing.

If you have issues about OpenXML SDK, since it is a new issue which is different from your original issue, I suggest you post a new thread for the new issue in this forum. Then there would be more community members to discuss the question.

  • What will happen when I run the HP Restore?

Hello, I'm posting in reference to a bit of a dillema I have.
As of about a month ago, I've been having errors with my laptop, and I've recently decided to perform a full system restore on my laptop to take it back to factory specs since I can't find a solution.  However, I've run into several problems in the process:
I do not have a Windows 7 installation disc, nor do I have a Windows 7 activation code to create a USB installation disc.  There's no sticker on the back of my computer.  I have a Windows 7 SP1 disc, but I don't think that has the main installer, and I received an Autorun.dll error the very first time I opened the pack to use the disc.
My computer did not come with the HP Recovery Manager software.  All the tutorials I've seen rely on this manager.
I do not have a restore point from before these errors began.
When booting my computer up a bit before I decided to come to the forums, I decided to test the startup menu and found an HP Restore option and decided to use it.  However, I didn't get the screen that appears in the tutorials on the website, but rather what looks like a generic installation screen for a Windows program.  I cancelled the HP Restore upon seeing this because I was unsure of what would happen.
I'm here to ask, since my laptop came pre-installed with Windows 7 the very first time I turned it on, does this version of the HP Restore reinstall Windows?  If it does, that's fantastic, because as I mentioned I don't have a Windows 7 disc or activation key.

I should also clarify, when I attempted to run the Windows System Restore, I was unable to because my computer couldn't find the Windows 7 installation files, and as mentioned before, I don't have any installation discs.  I have an HP Windows 7 SP1 disc (which from what I understand is simply a patch) and an HP driver installation disc.  This is why I'm hesitant to try the HP Restore (F11) option, because I don't know if it'll automatically install Windows when I use it.
