The project I'm working on has lots of source material and I have most of it captured. The source materials is from different classes on different days and places.
In the media file name I used the date with slashes (1/11/07.) Ultimately it will need to be transfered to a Windows PC environment instead of a Mac. I have not done any editing, I will be editing on a Mac and will be transfering to Windows when it is a completed movie. Will my original media file names create a mess in the PC world? Will it not matter at all because it will be exported as a completed movie?
This is my first FCP project—I appreciate the help I've gotten with the capture issues. I wanted to know if I need to rename my media files before editing.

I don't know that your original media names will create a mess unless you want to edit that final piece once you move over to PC. It sounds to me like you only taking the final movie to PC and not all of the additional media files.
In other words, are you planning to export the movie, say, via quicktime as a whole piece that will not be manipulated on the PC?

    I created dbtest1 and added a table. I delete it a few times as I wanted different data types for some of the fields. Is there a better way to do that than deleting the table?
    When I tried to run my application I was getting an error Schema USER not found. I thought I might have made a mistake by using user instead of nbuser so I deleted the project directory.
    I then attempted to create the dbtest1 database again using a SQL script and I believe I got the error like nbuser was not valid for the database.
    I tried to open the connection and now I only see the sample and car entries. If I try to create database it tells me "the database location already contains a file named dbtest1".
    I am not finding much info in the HELP index on how to some of this.

    I sounds like you may be using java to run an sql statement that creates and alters a database table. If so, I suggest you drop this idea and use the database utility tool that comes with the database. I suggest only using java to query,update, insert, delete records in a table created by the tool. Two free database MySql and OracleLite. One reason I wouldn't use java is that in addition to creating the table, you need to specify what fields are nullable, which is the primary key, how the primary key is incremented (manually or automatically). You also may have to create a public synonym so you can reference the table by name (example: select * from person) rather than have to specify the schema with the name (example: select * from mySchema.person). Its probably worth your time to learn how to use the database utility tool to create tables before getting into the java side of it.\
    Also, when you create a table, you have to 'grant' a user permmission to query, update, insert, and delete against the table. The utility will alow you to do this. I beleve this is the issue you currently have with USER.

    I currently use an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac computer for business.  The three devices have Contacts Managers that sync with each other through both Google and through Mobile Me.  Currently, this has created a mess of duplicate contacts.  Please advise me on the steps necessary for removing these duplicates and establishing a syncing solution that doesn't regenerate the duplicates.  There are several applications available that remove duplicates, but I am not sure which ones work or don't work.  I want information on this, but most importantly I want to understand how to fix this problem permanently.  Also, I read somewhere that Mac's new operating system, Lion, can help deal with duplicates.  I don't have Lion, but I would be willing to get it, if this would fix the problem.

    Had the same problem with 4 devices (two computers, an iPhone and an iPod). The solution is simple: open the Address Book application in your mac, ask it to locate duplicate entries (under one of the top menu items, "edit" I think), and then ask it to consolidate them: it took me all of three seconds after I figured it out: worked like a charm! PS: if you have more than one mac with unconected Address Books, repeating the operation in the second one may be a good idea.

  • Since changing our computer I have been unable to download ebooks to my Reader Library I get a message Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library; Waterstones suggest that I may have accidentally created a new Adobe

    When I try to download them from the Waterstones website I get a message saying:
    ‘Some file types associated with EPUB files are not associated with Reader Library.  Do you want to associate them now?  When I reply yes I get another message; ‘Configuration error unable to update EPUB files check network firewall and try again’.
    The ‘books’ are saved in the Download directory and I can’t transfer them from there to my E-Reader. I have not had any problems before, it was very simple; I saved the download and it automatically went into the Reader Library.
    I contacted HP and they said it is a software error and suggested I contact Waterstones.  I contacted Waterstones Customer Support and got the following response:
    As the error message is specifically mentioning the firewall it does sound like something in the firewall settings is stopping the download from taking place correctly. However, the files should not be being saved to the Download folder. It would be worth trying again by going to your Digital Order History on your Waterstones.com account and pressing the download button, and then making sure to press "Open" not "Save". When you press Open rather than Save it should give the option to open the file with Adobe Digital Editions. If the firewall message still comes up then I'm afraid something is blocking it on your end.
    If the above "Open" download method works but you then still get an error message it could possibly be that you have accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up on the new computer, rather than signing in with your old Adobe ID. It would be worth trying the aforementioned download technique again first, but if problems did still persist it would be worth calling Adobe themselves on 0207 365 0735, as they should be able to sort out any account issue.
      In response to the first para of Waterstones email I already do what they suggest I do press ‘Open’ not ‘Save’ but I don’t get the open with Adobe Digital Editions (we have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer. Waterstones say we may have ‘accidentally created a new Adobe ID when setting up the new computer’ does that mean that we shouldn’t have installed Adobe Digital Editions on the new computer as it would have already been there? How do I sign in with my old Adobe ID? 

    Hi all after attampting to get some supoport from adobe by phone.... nice people infurating policys as far as support for digital editions or DRM is conserned... However I got no where with support.
    I ended up instaling Digital editions on my desktop PC and going through the motions of registering and borrowing a book then returning it. Then I trying on my iPad, Bluefire worked, Over drive did not so I completely removed Overdrive and reinstalled and re registered. all working now.
    Maybe some one at adobe did something. Maybe the install of the adobe DE client on a PC corrected what ever was out of wack with my account. Mayby the server that my account lives on did a scan disk and corrected a bad clustrer.
    What ever happend My account is actiove and working again. hope this helps others.

    AS02 is for Asset change..........here you can change only dpercaition keys.......
    You can define in AS93..........under Takeover values.
    Also u can check the value at AS02 under Deperciation area at initial tab ..you can see there at Menu Bar..

I have called and been told that "technicians at adobe" could perform a paid service to find out what the files were created in and get them to be useable in InDesign 6, but I'd need an email address that was registered to our software to give the help desk person. After finding the correct email address, different adobe help number people told me to come here to ask as there is no phone support. Can anyone get me to an adobe technician that can provide a price quote for finding out what created these files and for getting them converted? Thanks.

    Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
    As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.

    I had been saving as a PDF and then reducing the size of the PDF by printing it as a PDF with a degree of image compression. I write manuals with a LOT of screen captures and line art that needs to be clear. So it is a balancing act between image clarity and PDF size. The PDFs on the web need to be smaller - sure you can undertsand.
    Anyway, when I print the PDF again, I lose both my destinations and bookmarks.
    Anyone know of any way to avoid that?

    Control the images by creating a custom PDF Job Options and then selecting it in the PDF Job Options drop-down of the PDF setup dialog box (File > Save as PDF...)
    Create the custom PDF Job Options file with Distiller. If you do not have Distiller, open the Printing Preferences of the Adobe PDF printer. Start with the Smallest File Size Job Options settings and Edit.

    The methods described by user564110 will work, but may not give the results you want. The user will enter the dates, the query will run, and if the to_date is lesser than the from_date, the result will be an empty worksheet with a "no rows returned" type of message. There is no way that I can think of that validate the parameters and warn the user prior to runing the worksheet.
    One alternative condition you could try:
    col_date between least(:from_date, :to_date) and greatest(:from_date, :to_date)It won't warn the users, but will still allow the worksheet to return data.

    This is happening to me also but only with certain apps. The message I get with the apps that won't update is "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID. This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled".

    Delete them and then download them from the desired Apple ID. This may require repurchasing paid applications.

    I'm not sure I understand your question really, but one thing for sure is that you need Lion for iCloud to work.

    I want to create an iPad-Magazine using the DPS. I read all the stuff about the alternate layouts and watched the videos on the channels. Now I ran into what I might call a problem for that I couln't find a solution yet. With my creative cloud membership I can create unlimited app using DPS...but I simply cannot create one app that supports iPad 1&2 + iPad 3 display resolution???

    - So if I want one issue of a magazine to be iPad3 compatible then I have to create another app?

    Example: All my apps on my iPad2 of course have 1024x768 but when I recently syncronized the iPad3 with iTunes then I automatically get the update-Info over the App Store icon that I can update the new version of the App optimized for the Retina-Display.
    I mean that is a simple feature that nearly all apps are offering. Of course if I would not use the DPS I would have to again hire a developer and pay him for updating my already published app...but at least he could resubmit it supporting both resoutions.
    I hope you are getting my point here.  That is an important feature that should be build in no matter if I am a Single Edition customer or Business or Enterprise one. If you would do a catalog or something else for your client, he sees that all his apps on his iPad are updating according to his new device. But the catalog app that I did for him not. He would ask why can't you build it that way for me?  I would have to explain him: Sorry I cannot create both version in one app, you and your clients have to download two versions of your app if you want to have it look nice. That is not a very good selling argument for me.
    I really have to say that if there is no workaround, I am a bit disapointed because it does not make sense to create two seperate apps of the same app. I really would be happy to receive some helpfull advise on how to get both resolutions supported and when that is going to happen or even better...I misinterpreted the whole thing.
    And please: NO I don't want to upgrade to business or enterprise edition!

    Dear Bob,
    I will try that out.  But do you see any chance in the near future that when you create an article out of InDesign, that you can then add multiple layouts with different resolutions? Then I wouldhave one article that contains iPad SD&HD as well as V&H.
    So that would be a time saver. Create only one folio that already have the different resolutions covered. I only would have to work with one article inside folio-file for all the devices. Just a thought.

    Sorry... can't be done. Apple says no when it comes to merging accounts.
