Have you also experienced unreasonable delay in fixing a brand new Apple

I have had the "part on order" for a new MacBook which had black screen. They took in my computer on the 25th August after the "genius" said it had to go back to the manufacturer. I am amazed that Apple doesn't seem to have a quality control on its manufacturing process that would result in such behaviour. Fortunately I have a very reliable IBM business PC to use in the interim.

strangely enough, serious issues with their laptops occured with both models in their infancy. the macbook pros had their shares of woes and heartache, although it wasnt as numerous as the macbook's. but the delay at this point is pretty predictable, since at the moment im sure lots and lots of macbooks are being sent in for repair but the people that actually report it on here are just a handful, and im sure others are unable to anyway since the MB was their only computer. mine was off for a week, and hopefully it has the new part that will drive off the RSD demons. but time will tell on that one :/

  • Brand new apple wire keyboard is "drawing too much power." Why? How do I fix this?

Just bought a brand new Apple iMac, not even a week old. It came with a wired keyboard with numberpad. I accidently left the computer asleep over night and upon returning to it, everything seemed fine. For probably an hour or so, there were no problems, then I started getting spammed with this message; "Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled." At the time I have a usb extention, external harddrive, and keyboard plugged into the ports. After removing both the external hardrive and extention, the message coninued to pop, muliplying itself if you did not close it. After researching and doing a little experimenting I was able to determine that the usb port on the right side of my keyboard is the one being disabled. (A mouse will not work when plugged into the port but will on the left side) I have also restarted the computer, shut it down, unplugged it, and started it again. The message returns immediately upon reactivation. As I type this I am being consistantly interupted by the message. I do not have a second keyboard nor am I planning on purchasing one. I am disapointed in this malfunction of a brand new product. Please asist me in resolving this.
    Thanks.

    Ryan, try resetting the SMC
    To reset the SMC

  • My Macbook Pro *****! I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button.

I have had it for 2 weeks now, got it brand new at the apple store, it freezes all the time, and reboots itself, sometimes when i start it, purple dots cover the screen and i have to hold the power button. a 2 week old computer is not supposed to do this! it wastes all its time being so flashy that it just craps out all the time. sometimes i feel like i should have stayed with my virus covered PC. at least when it shut down randomly you could turn it back on, but with the macbook pro, it just keeps restarting itself over and over. need help with this, any answers?

Here's a novel thought. Take it back to the vendor. Should have done that one week ago.

  • Have You Also Been Deceived About A Plan w/ iPhone6 Plus?

Since I got no help from Verizon, thought I'd at least post on their site what I've been posting on other social media sites (yelp, etc.)
Stay away from Verizon Wireless @ The River in Rancho Mirage!! They are deceptive and deceitful.  Right after Christmas went there to get the iphone6 plus. Sales Rep Cesar represented to me that I didn't need to pay ANYTHING upfront (nothing on taxes, etc. even tho I told Cesar the  Verizon Palm Springs store told me I would have to).  "Not them" he said, "not necessary". FOUR TIMES I asked Cesar and he told me no worries "my first bill would be pro rated"to reflect taxes & equipment. Instead Cesar repeatedly tried to get me to upgrade my service and buy "extras". Left w/ the phone and ONE WEEK LATER got slammed w/ a bill from Verizon for $227.56.!!  Not a "service bill" but a tax and equipment bill. I called Cesar and he said "I told you your first bill would be pro rated". Since when does pro-rated no longer mean a fraction of a larger bill and instead equals TWO TIMES what my regular bill is estimated to be!?!?  TWO TIMES LARGER than my regular bill! His manager, Jose, was absolutely no help either.  Shameful. The kick in the pants is after dealing in the store w/ Cesar, I walked over to the manager and told him how terrific Cesar was in getting me the phone right away, complimented him on service set up and more. Then just a week later get slammed with a bill Cesar told me I would not get after I asked him FOUR TIMES if I would.  Any of this sound pro-rated to you? Or honest and upfront?  Sounds deceptive, deceitful, and denying real costs to get me to buy "extras" after repeatedly telling me the Palm Springs wireless store recommendation to pay taxes up front was plain wrong and not necessary (PS said the up front would be $102 and NOT $227.56).  I feel really cheated and lied to by Cesar and got no support from Jose the manager who never called me back. They are not nice people but sure make you think they are.  Real nice from a Verizon "corporate owned" store.  Makes me really sorry I switched over from AT&T when this is how they treat their customers. Shame on Cesar & Jose in Rancho Mirage wireless store at The River. Shame on Verizon. Stay away from Verizon Wireless @ The River and especially Cesar &  Jose!!

I guess I don't understand exactly what you are talking about here. Are you saying there was NO charge for service on this bill of $227.56, but ONLY tax and equipment??? This is certainly what you are implying. IF it is ONLY for tax and equipment, how would that have ANY bearing on your REGULAR bill? I assume you don't normally pay for equipment on your regular bill so why would you compare the amount of your equipment bill to a "service bill"???
I can only ASSUME your bill for $227.56 has "equipment" AND "service" on it, along with the tax associated with the equipment purchase. You ALSO say that your NORMAL bill is half of this bill, so that would mean your NORMAL bill is usually around $113.50. Is it usually a little higher, lower or exactly that amount???

IF your NORMAL bill is usually $113.50, the other store said the up front would be $102 AND you instead had that amount added to your next bill, it seems to me you SHOULD have expected a bill of around $215.50 which is not far from the actual bill of $227.56. A little lower than your actual bill, but still fairly close.
Let's go with your regular bill of ~$113.50. I will also assume you chose the middle level of iPhone 6+ for $850. At 8%(could be different in your location) sales tax that would be $68. Your monthly payment on Edge would be $35.42 for a total of $103.42 ADDED to your normal monthly bill. Your next month's bill would not have the tax for equipment purchase on it, but would still have the monthly equipment payment.
Of course, this would all be itemized on your bill. Some people have reported the Edge discount not being applied to their first bill on Edge, so I would also be interested if you are getting the Edge discount if you are on a More Everything plan. If you are not on a More Everything plan, you would not be eligible for the Edge discount. You say your NORMAL bill is ~$113.50, so I assume you have a $40 line access fee AND ~$60 in data charges if on More Everything. Of course this is only an assumption.

  • I have two AppleID's. Can I set up a new Apple ID just for document syncing in iCloud? How?

I have two AppleID's. Both use known email addresses. I need absolute security for documents. Can I set up a new Apple ID just for document syncing in iCloud? How?

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that security was non-existant or horrible, just it is online, so no absolutes.
iCloud is really not useful, IMO, for collaborating as only you or your AppleID enabled devices can access the files.
I have multiple online storage accounts with the common free services, but my most used is www.box.net.  Many document apps will readily support it, and even if one does not, you can use the box.net app itself to access files, then open them in the app usually.  And you can share your online folders, with reasonable controls on access to keep control of who can see (and upload or download) what.
A lot of people I know use dropbox as well, but they are usually using paid accounts (often their company sets one up for them to use to exchange files with clients) and I don't know how much better is the security on a paid dropbox account versus a free one.  I suspect the free ones are on a par with box.net.
You could also use add security by using some sort of PGP or other encryption tools to encrypt files put up on the shared folder(s).  You'd exchange public keys with your colleagues so they could decrypt those files once they download them.  That may be overkill for many peoples needs though.
Another option, if you have an online hosting account, is to get one that offers SFTP access and use that for sharing files (the downside of that is having to distribute the password to colleagues, so you could loose control of it if one of them is careless or thoughtless with it).  It seems more and more document-type apps for iOS are supporting generic FTP and SFTP as well as the popular free online storage solutions.

  • Since installing Lion, I have not been able to utilize Time Machine (does not recognize the back-up drive); my wireless mouse does not function properly; I have experienced unreasonable delays in the system.  Is there a fix or upgrade coming?

Is there a fix or upgrade to deal with the many problems I am experiencing since I installed Lion?  I can no longer utilize Time Machine (Does not see the back-up drive); my wireless mouse does not work properly; my iMac has slowed down considerably.  I am reminded of having a PC machine again.  Bummer!

Either downgrade to Snow Leopard or try reinstalling Lion.
    Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Have you already experienced script problem due to Vista updates ?

    Hi,
I wrote a script for a customer. He used a CS3 on Windows XP.
    The script worked fine.
He has now switched for a Windows Vista and now the script seems to not be fully functional anymore.
The problem seems to come from a simple doc.print(...) command. The preset is defined by the user (dialog with a dropdown menu).
    app.activeDocument.print(false, app.printerPresets[myChoice.selectedIndex]);
Do you have experienced such problems ?
    TIA Loic

  • TS1702 WorldAtArms have you lost all of your coins recently? Please can apple have a word with Game Loft

I have lost all of my gold coins 4 times in the last two weeks which always happens when I have accumulated over a billion. This makes them game very frustrating to play and takes away the enjoyment when you have to keep starting again from 0. If I delete the game and start again I will lose all of the extra purchases I have had to make to get this far which adds up to over £100 of additional purchase from Game Loft

Post you concern on the WorldAtArms forum http://www.gameloft.com/?request=forum&category_id=76

  • Can I have two iPhones on the same iTunes account under the new apple terms?

I have two iPhones (4 & 3GS). Is it possible to have them using the one iTunes account or do they have to have separate accounts? I had heard that there may be a change in the apple terms so that you cannot do this, but not sure if it's true?

You can have as many iPhone and other iDevices as you want associated with your iTunes account.

if you're happy with your Mac, and it's running like it should, keep using it.
On the other hand, the new Mac OS X Mavericks is due out sometime this fall. If you're thinking of a new Mac you may want to wait until you can purchase one with Mavericks pre installed.
