Having problems making a Professional QualityDVD... Can anyone help? Thanks
Ok, I have a Standard DV 3:2 NTSC (16x9 Anamorphic) movie that I want to put on DVD for display on TV.
I started by dropping the entire 16x9 Anamorphic movie on to a regular 3:2 timeline being that I want that letterbox look.
Next I Exported from Final Cut using Quicktime Conversion 720x480 - 4:3 - No Preserve. Everything was fine at that point.
Next, I tried to burn the movie in DVD Studio Pro, but it did not except the .mov format, so I went to iDVD and burned it at Pro Quality - Standard 4:3.
This is where the problems began. The movie was horrible blurry & interlaced when any camera movement took place.
How can I export my movie from final cut pro so that the 3:2 Anamorphic can be viewed with the letter box look, and I can use DVD Studio Pro, and have it not be interlaced like it was in iDVD?
In general, how do the Pros export theres movies for DVD, so that they look great?

Big Question? Is it possible to export a 16x9 Anamorphic movie with larger letterbox on top and bottom of picture without cropping the image? I want more than the letterbox that is there after the regular export. I also want to use DVD Studio Pro, and not iDVD, but everything out of Quicktime Compression does not work with DVD Studio Pro.
With more letterboxingit looks more cinematic, and I actually achieved this look once, only with horrible interlacing on camera movement. I achieved this look, by dropping my 3:2 16x9 Anamorphic DV Movie onto a 4:3 timeline and exporting it with quicktime conversion 720x480 - 4:3 without using preserve letterbox. I had to burn the DVD after doing this with iDVD, because DVD Studio Pro did not support the file. The look was exactly what I was looking for, but the video had horrible interlacing on camera movement.
So in general, there only one way to export 16x9 Anamorphic movies to display on a TV? The letterboxing is not much, and its looks super videoish to me. With more letterboxing, it looks great on the TV.
Please let me know what my options are, or if I should just go with the larger picture, and small letterboxing on top and bottom that is achieved by just dropping the 16:9 Anamorphic movie onto a 3:2 timeline and exporting. What do most indie filmmakers exporting DV movies onto DVD for festivals do?
Your help is very appreciated, as this has been driving me crazy for a long time.

PS... What is it that Quicktime Conversion did that made it more letterboxed? Was it distorting the image at all? It did not look that way. It looked like the letterboxing on a lot of professional DVD's that shot on film.

Alright, so a few weeks ago I bought a Wacom Bamboo Capture tablet, and it comes with a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0
Now, I installed it previously and it worked perfectly.
Then, all of a sudden, I go to boot it up, and I'm asked for my serial... AGAIN.
Also, it's giving me the whole 'Not valid' error.
It's irritating the hell out of me.

Specifically:
Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.

I have the same problem on my iMac. My facetime has been working, but now I'm getting the same error as You. I've been through the following:
The stuff that Linc Davis suggested, new profile on iMac, moved iMac into DMZ zone with no firewall rules, tested with other Apple-ID, checked hosts file, checked different timezone settings, tried to connect to 2 mobile APs (with diferent providors), changed DNS servers (ISP's DNS + Google DNS + Open DNS) - Nothing helped. Also talked to Apple Support, since i have Apple Care, but the seem to be a bit clueless also Well I've mailed them the results of my different tests, so lets see what they come up with - Unfortunately I'm sure it will be the same suggestion as all the major PC manufactures suggests, reinstall and test - RIGHT !!!!!!
If I get solution, I'll post it here.

Problem opening PDF Docs. Can anyone help?
Hi , I have a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader is installed. But when I try to open a PDF doc , I get a message stating I have to install Adobe Reader. Of course when try to do this I get a message stating its already installed. So I am in a catch 22 situation. Can anyone help me please? Lewis

I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3. can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help? thanks
Just need to plug the TC in to the hub in bridge mode.. do not try and bridge the homehub.. it is not possible with the setup BT uses.
To bridge the TC.. plug it directly into a computer by ethernet.. no other connection to the TC or the computer.
Press and hold in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
Release the reset.
Open the airport utility and setup the TC to bridge mode.
The actual method depends on version of the OS and airport utility you use.
This is version 5.
Sorry I cannot post the v6 as I am on a snow leopard computer now. But you go to the network tab, and choose off bridge mode for method of connection. It will be NAT and dhcp by default.
Then setup wireless.. you have a number of choices here.
Either setup with the same SSID Security and password, as the homehub uses.. or a different name, and password..
Each method works fine.. but you sometimes have issues with wireless channels.. for now leave it on auto and see what happens.. if you have issues lock down the radio channels on both devices.. use one out of the following on each, 1, 6, 11 or 13 in UK.. so say 6 on the homehub then 13 onthe TC.
Update the TC.. unplug fromt the computer and plug it into the homehub.

I am an illustrator. I create illustrations on my iMac in Photoshop. I want to transfer my illustration files, as jpegs, onto my iPad so that I have a portfolio and can showcase my work when I visit clients. Can anyone help. Thank you!
Might be easiest to use a service like Dropbox and sync everything to a folder in Dropbox so you'll have it on your Mac and on your iPhone.

Hi, please can anyoner help. I had a power cut at home and went to switch the imac back on and all i can get is a grey screen, a chime and a circle going around but no blue screen when I start up .I have tried pressing the power button for ten seconds with it switched off .Tried installing back up discs and after about an hour it comes up with an error that caused installation to fail and to contact the software manufacturer, tried again and the same happened. Tried apple hardware test and test results say no trouble found so am trying the extended test .any help would be great, thanks,Andy.
Try resetting the smc and pram.
To reset the smc
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
To reset pram
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
Very frustrating problem with Photoshop Elements 10 - can anyone help?
I don't know what's happened, and I haven't changed any of the settings or anything.
When I open a photoshop file I am currently working on, now, no matter what I do, nothing changes in the actual photo. Even when I delete layers to see if it reverts back to the original photo, nothing changes. When I try adding new layers, nothing happens, when I try adjusting something such as opacity, or brightness/saturation, nothing changes.
I've tried opening/creating other photoshop files and I have the same problem, so it seems a problem with the actual software, rather than individual files. Even after uninstalling then installing the software, the problem is still there.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this? Or could you direct me to a good help forum/source?

I seem to be having ethernet connectivity problems on my thunderbolt Macs - can anyone help?
Today (fateful coincidence?) BOTH my Thunderbolt Macs (27" i7i iMac and 13" MacBook Pro) report No connection to internet in Safari - using Network Diagnostics shows Ethernet/Internet to be working fine, but Safari error continues (onscreen message has strange formatting - each line of the message is repeated three times). This problem looks identical to an earlier problem which was fixed by an early Thunderbolt Display firmware update. Swapping ethernet on my Macbook Pro from Display Ethernet to MacBook Ethernet results in same problem. Meanwhile Email continues to work fine! Any insights/hints/lifelines greatfully received ...

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) -
Problems with Flexible Parameter Passing - Can anyone help with the answer

having gone to the trouble of creating a generic form handler which utlises the ability of the PL/SQL Gateway to handle flexible parameters, we've come across an almighty problem.
Whilst the gateway will create two arrays of parameter names and values, it doesn' t seem to handle arrays of values. So, although some of our forms have multi select list form elements, these seem to be incompatible with the Flexible parameter method, as only the first value is returned.
Does anyone know of a solution to this?
I really hope so, otherwise the whole methodology is a waste of effort, and I can't imagine why Oracle bothered to include it!

DanNot sure what flexible parameters are but in the past I've worked on a form that had to pass multiple values (from a multi-select list item) to a report via a single parameter. We did this by creating a pipe delimited ("|") string of all the selected values. Leading and trailing pipes were also added to the concatenated string.
This was exploded into individual rows by using the statement below:
WITH t AS (SELECT '|1|2|3|4|' str FROM dual)
SELECT str, level
, SUBSTR(str, INSTR(str, '|', 1, level) +1, INSTR(str, '|', 1, level+1)-INSTR(str, '|', 1, level)-1) str2

I'm having a few issues with Safari, can anyone help?

I'm having a few annoying little issues with Safari at the moment, hopefully someone can help and it'll be an easy fix, but I'm stumped at the moment.
1. Every time I close and quit Safari it freezes and I have to 'force quit' the app. Not the biggest of problems but it's a little annoying.
2. Once I open Safari back up it reloads with whatever window was open when I quit, even if my Mac has been turned off.
3. Safari is eating up a lot of my RAM at the moment. 'Activity Monitor' is telling me it's taking up between 2-6GB of Memory.
Anybody have any ideas?

Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History and Web Site Data. The down side is it clears all cookies.Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. -
After troubleshooting for a few hours, I still cannot find a proper solution. Effectively, I learned that if I create a new profile user, with this command in windows Run: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p , I can open the user profile menu manually, and create/delete a new/not-new user, and upon creating and using a new one, it works fine. For a couple of times opening the browser, anyway, in which it results in the same problem as before. I took a list and compared the old files to a brand new users files, and did find some differences. Take these into effect,
The compatability and extensions .ini files were differed by 3 kb , with a new user being 1, and the old user being 4.
The Local Store .rdf file differed from 2 for a new user, to 4 for an old user.
The Mime Types .rdf file differed from 3 for a new user to 4 for an old user.
Plugin Reg(istry?) .dat differed from 17 new to 20 old.
Search.json differed from 13 new to 16 old.
Search Metadata.json differed from 1 new to 4 old.
URL Classifier Key 3.txt differed from 1 new to 4 old.
Web App Store.sqlite differed from 96 new to 128 old.
(All units are KB)
Seeing as a few articles relating to the problem are "no longer maintained" and the solutions work only temporarily, I came here hoping to fix this little issue. Thank you, and good luck in advance.

Note; the first crash ID is for the new user that crashed, the last is for an old user.I see.. I have heard rumors of this, but it did not occur to me that this would literally crash upon startup. Thank you for the help, Edmeister. Will check as "solved it" if it works. Thanks again!

Problem with Disk Utility. Can anyone help?
For months now, my friend's iMac no longer verifies or repairs disk permissions. This is what it reports everytime:
Verify permissions for “Macintosh HD”
*Reading permissions database.*
*Reading the permissions database can take several minutes.*
ACL found but not expected on "Applications/Utilities".
*Permissions verification complete*
It does all this within 5 seconds each time. Clearly it is not verifying/repairing disk permissions because normally you get a huge list of permissions and it takes way more than 5 seconds.
So if anyone can tell me what might be wrong or how to go about fixing, I'd really appreciate it.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you continue to have the same issue then while booted into the installer disc select Reset Password from the Utilities menu. Do not make any changes to the password section, rather to the bottom where there is an option to fix the permissions on the user's Home folder and to remove ACLs. Select that option and then click on the Done button (I think it's the Done button.)
