HD Hardware Set Up query

I've been dragged kicking and screaming into the world of HD video editing after years of working happily with DV Pal.
I'm on a hugely steep learning curve as far as codecs and working with the right hardware set up is concerned and would really appreciate a bit of help so I can get on with the creative side of editing.
I currently have an old G5 and a Macbook Pro. The Macbook Pro is what I'm using to edit to (advanced rough cut stage) my new project on (a 75 minute low budget doco destined for cinema release) - but it's clear to me my current hardware can't cope. The Macbook pro is a couple of years old (silver not black keyboard) - 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with about 15GB free on the hard drive. I've upgraded the RAM to 4GB and have the footage which is a mixture of ProRes 422 (Proxy) HDV, AVCHD and XF300 native on 2 Lacie 800 1TB drives connected via firewire. I've ordered a SATA card so I can link those drives via cables to the Macbook Pro. My suspicion is these drives aren't fast enough - so that's my first question. At present I get a realtime delay when skipping quickly through footage - stuttery playback.
I'm willing to invest up to £4,000 in new hardware for this project which I would really like to include a screen. I'm considering a new top of the range iMac but don't want to compromise for the future. If I go down the iMac route - how can a get lightening fast drives to work with it - and how should they be connected? Obviously for my budget, a Mac Pro is going to be pushing it.
I'm utterly confused by what I've read about RAIDs - I just cannot find a clear explanation of how these work - how I should set it up etc. At present I've only got one back up of my XF300 cards on a 1TB drive and feel really vulnerable without good old tapes - so feel a mirrored drive might be a good way to go - but then worry that it will slow my system down.
Basically, I just want to be able to edit in the way I did with DVPal without the constant worry of losing footage and my system not being able to cope. If it means upping my budget (by another £1000 or so - then so be it).
I know these kind of questions are annoying as there's been to be the answers out there somewhere - but I'm really up against it and so any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers for now,
Ant

the footage which is a mixture of ProRes 422 (Proxy) HDV, AVCHD and XF300
Well for starters, what are your sequence settings? ProRes Proxy, HDV, what? Also, you can't work with AVCHD natively, so what did you convert it to? ProRes?
My suspicion is these drives aren't fast enough
FW800 shouldn't be too much of a drag for straight cutting with those codecs, unless you're piling on filters etc. eSATA will be a boost, certainly, but I don't see that the drives are the real problem (unless they're 5400rpm rather than 7200+).
The iMac vs. Mac Pro question is thought out pretty well here:
http://provideocoalition.com/index.php/mcurtis/story/newquad_cores_imac_or_macpro/
Those are the questions you need to answer-- mostly the one on expandability, as that's the big difference between the two in the end. If it's important to you, but you can't afford the new models, you might consider a used Mac Pro over a new iMac.
Best to just do some Googling on RAIDs and research from there. The bottom line is that they offer either a) data redundancy (protection) with the same speed, or b) increased speed with no redundancy. Or both redundancy and speed, but then things start getting expensive.

Hi, I'm using auto refresh property of VO, to refresh the LOV . But i get " java.sql.SQLException: ORA-29983: Unsupported query for Continuous Query Notification" error..
So i want to set the query in best-effort-mode . May i know how to set it.
here is my query that set to auto refresh.
    "SELECT DISTINCT YYYY FROM XXXXX"
Query optimizer makes the above one as below.
SELECT * FROM (SELECT DISTINCT YYYY FROM XXXXX) QRSLT WHERE ( ( (YYYY LIKE :vc_temp_1 ) ) )

If you disconnect the PMU, you will have the option to go to tristate or your previous digital state, but not ground. Forcing 0V is probably the closest you can get to a GND like behavior. The default line state is tristate for this device, which will leave the line floating if there is no active driver.

  • Viewlink between Custom VO "Cannot set user query to view"

We have an application where we have extended custom VO and EO’s to get data from flat files. It all looks fine till we create a viewlink for a LOV with two related VO’s. The viewlink VO fails we get message of the form -Cannot set user query to view "CustomVO1" because it is a destination in a view link”. Are there any methods to override in the custom VO/EO or any parameter to be added to configs. Has someone tried this out

No it is possible as per SAP.
    Please read follwoing help-

It is talking abou the Special Features of InfoCubes in InfoSets.
For queries based on an InfoSet with an InfoCube, the system decides at runtime whether aggregates can be used for the InfoCube. This is the case if all the required InfoObjects of the InfoCube exist in an aggregate. The following InfoObjects are required:
The key figures of the InfoCube selected in the query
The characteristics of the InfoCube selected in the query
The characteristics required for a join with other InfoProviders in the InfoSet.
Furthermore, as a prerequisite for using aggregates, all the data required by an InfoCube must be readable using logical access. For an InfoCube within an InfoSet with InfoCubes, it is no longer possible to read part of the data from one aggregate and part of the data from another aggregate or the InfoCube itself.

  • Cannot set user query to view "{0}" because it is a destination in a view link

    Hi
11.1.1.7 - I have 2 programatically view objects. I have created a viewLink between them and I am getting the error:
Cannot set user query to view "MyView2" because it is a destination in a view link.
Does anyone know what are the methods I need to implement? I have follow the Frank Nimphius Post: Oracle ADF: Service, Please! and it is working fine. However, after seeing this example: Decompiling ADF Binaries: Building programmatically managed business components - Part 2 - I realised that I am missing some other stuff to make the view link work. There are too many methods and its quite difficult to understand and digest all classes and methods etc.
Anyone can please point me in the right direction?

Which version are you using? Could you maybe turn on logging (http://blog.goverco.com/p/psmalogging.html) and post content of log file if you still have the issue...
Also, remember that even though you set credentials in the PARAM section, these values are overwritten by the ones specified on the properties of the MA - so make sure that you specify correct creds on the MA. Specifying creds directly in the script makes
for an easy way of testing from the PowerShell prompt, but not for running the script from the MA / Run Profiles

  • Programmatically setting SQL Query string?

    Post Author: JoeM
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
    Hi,
I recently updated to Crystal Reports 11 from 8.5 and am having some problems getting my reports to properly function.  I need to set the SQL query string in the report at runtime in our C++ based program when the user selects what report they want to print.  So to do this I first open the report and connect to our database and that works fine, here is the code for that -
    pReport = pCRPApp->OpenReport(TmplFName, dummy) ;
    pReport ->Database->LogOnServer("crdb_odbc.dll", ODBC_FILEDSN, DatabaseName, DatabaseUsrNm, DatabasePwd);
but when I use PutSQLQueryString to set the custom sql query that I've made it does not appear to work because when I use GetSQLQueryString right after that, the returned string is not the one I just set. Here is the code for that part -
    pReport->PutSQLQueryString(SQLExprBuf);
    sprintf(TestSQL, pReport->PutSQLQueryString());
TestSQL is not the same as SQLExprBuf
So my question is how do I properly set the SQL query string programmatically, is there some setting in my report that needs to be turned on or am I using the wrong function?  I read somewhere that you can use the Add command option in the report to set the query string as well, is there a way to programmatically do that?

In Access create a View showing the information you want, then in design mode click View, SQL to see teh SQL you need. now make sure the SQL you build in VBA is exactly the same. so in the Immediate window type a ? then copy paste your code then press Enter
    to see the result, EG:
    ?"UPDATE Lan_landmeter " _
            & "SET OpleidingsBedrijf =" & bedrijf & " ,Opleiding_startdatum =#" & startdatum & "#,Opleiding_einddatum =#" & einddatum & "#,Aantal_opleidingsuren_vast=20,Aantal_gevolgde_uren

  • SAP POWL - set default query

    Hi,
I am working on SAP travel and expenses component, and I want to set the default POWL query to All My Expense Reports instead of All My Travel Requests on the My Trips and  Expenses Page.
The 'personalize' option provided will only change default query for my user, I want to personalize it for all end users. I tried Administrator personalization of Web Dynpro component but it won't work.
Any idea how can we change the default query within POWL. I checked SPRO configuration too (POWL_QUERY, POWL_QUERYR, etc), but none of them provides functionality to set default query.
    Thanks,
    Deepa Balani

    Hi,
This might be (I'm not completely sure) that by running it once for the user with the old order it has then saved this order in the user's personalisations/preferences. I remember having issues when I was adding queries to applications that user's that I had previously used were not getting them. I think I resolved this by deleting all the saved POWL references for the user, I think this may have been personalization, but it also may have been other tables (sorry was a while ago). After doing this the issue was fixed.
To test if this is the case - I could suggest creating a new user id and logging on with that - check if the problem is sorted for that user first - if it is then go down the path of trying to remove saved preferences for your existing users.
    Hope this helps,
    Chris

  • Question: best Hardware set-up for final cut univ. and mac pro

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used final cut universal with their mac pro and can recommend a hardware set-up (Processors, memory... ) they found best adapted for it.
    my mac pro:
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    thank you
MAC PRO   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Final Cut Studio/video editing requires all four parts of a system…
    1) Processor performance
    2) GPU performance
    3) RAM
    4) Hard drive performance
… to be working in tandem. If any one of these areas a caught short then the system as a whole is disproportionately affected. It's one of the downsides to video is that everything needs to be working as well as it can.
So, what I would recommend for you is the following setup as your goal is something like…
    Mac Pro 2.66GHz
    6GB RAM (4 x 1GB + 4 x 512MB - I'm presumng you already have the 4 x 512MB)
ATi X1900 XT graphics card (or better - depneds on what's available at the time)
2 x Western Digital Raptor 150GB RAID 0 for boot and scratch
2 x Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500GB RAID 0 for data
Any further eSATA storage requirements for cloning, backup and data
    Not cheap but should scream.

  • Multiple Users accessing the same core set of queried data

Hi. We have a small call center and we want to build an app where the users can query the same core set of data and use it to initiate calls to study participants. The trick is that they will also need to update each record with information from the call. So we need to stop two call center agents from potentially calling the same participant at the same time.
Is there a good method or best practice for creating a app to do this? The concern is that multiple call center agents would be querying the screen with the same core set of records (for example, querying by 'Ready for Call' status). When a call is placed the agent will have a conversation with the participant and ultimately end up updating the record after about 10 minutes. So my question is whether there is a good way to keep multiple agents from working with the same record (e.g. calling the same participant simultaneously)?
Right now it seems that Oracle will lock a record for update, but only after an agent has initiated a change to the record. This still leaves a window of opportunity for two or more agents to be calling the same participant at the same time.
Any thoughts or ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

By 'standard record locking system' do you mean there is nothing I need to do programatically? No block level properties to change?
So you are saying this is just the way it always works. So as soon as one of our call center agents opens a record all I have to do is create a pending update to any field?
But won't another user be able to open the form and just query that record not knowing another user has it open?

  • Help Needed in Set based query

    Hi,
    Version : sqlserver 2008 R2
    sample data to play with,
    declare @Address table(Id int primary key identity(1,1),Address varchar(100),city varchar(20),State varchar(20))
    insert into @Address
select '123 sheril street, Newyork,NY','Newyork','NY' union all
select '333 bamboo street, Manhattan,NY', null, null union all
select '123 merrit street, Albany,NY','Albany','NY' union all
    select '123 shego street, Buffalo,NY',null,null
This is just sample data. i have around 100000 address for different city and states.Basically i need to remove the city and state from address
Here is what i need to achieve,
    1. Get the city, state check exists on address column if found then remove the city and state. if not leave it as it.
    2. If the city and state column is null and if that is present in address column then remove that from address column and update it in city and state column
    respectively.
Is this possible to achieve without cursor or looping? any sample query please .
    loving dotnet

This gets you part of the way there.  You'll have to perform your own logic to determine if you want to update the address field or not.  I attached a split function that I found online, you'll need that to get the desired results.
    declare @Address table(Id int primary key identity(1,1),Address varchar(100),city varchar(20),State varchar(20))
    insert into @Address
select '123 sheril street, Newyork,NY','Newyork','NY' union all
select '333 bamboo street, Manhattan,NY', null, null union all
select '123 merrit street, Albany,NY','Albany','NY' union all
    select '123 shego street, Buffalo,NY',null,null
    ;with parts as
    select a.Id, LTRIM(RTRIM(ISNULL(foo.Item,''))) as Item
    from @address a
CROSS APPLY DBO.SplitStrings_Moden(a.Address, ',') as foo
    [rows] as

    from parts
    ) a
PIVOT (max(Item) for rowNumber in ([1], [2], [3])) as pvt
    merge into @Address as Target
    using rows as Source
    ON (Target.Id = Source.Id)
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
    UPDATE SET
    Target.Address = Source.Address,
    Target.City = Source.City,
    Target.State = Source.State;
    select * From @Address
    ALTER FUNCTION dbo.SplitStrings_Moden

  • Characteristic "Master Data" setting in Query definition not working?

    Hi,
I am having a problem with a query definition. (BI 7.0)
The query comprises the following definition which relate to displaying Milestone dates for respective projects in a time series so the dates are populated in the correct column in a time series:
    Filter
Project Definition = Fixed Single Project Definition
    Fiscal Year Variant = K4
Project Profit Centre = Hierarchy Node
Project Plant = Fixed Single Value
    Free Chars
    Network
    Network Activity
    Activity Element
    Rows
    Project Plant
    Project Profit Centre (With hierarchy)
    Project Definition
Milestone Type  (Setting in characteristic to pick up Master Data)
CSR Relevant    (Setting in characteristic to pick up Master Data)
          Structure
               Actual
               Scheduled
(Actual:  Value type = Actual,  Origin = Manual ,Event = Start)
(Scheduled:  Value type = Actual,  Origin = Scheduled ,Event = Start)
    Columns
Key Figure structure of 12 key figures in a time series
    Selection
    Key Figure = Date
Fiscal Year/Period = Current Fiscal Year / Period (SAP EXIT) (With Offset 1 to 12)
    FYI
When I run the above it comes back correctly. However when I add "MILESTONE" (Characteristic setting (Posted Values) to the Query Definition immediately after the "Milestone Type" and before CSR it does not work it just is hanging for a considerable time.
I am not using "Master Data" for the "Access Type for Result Vales" for the additional characteristic "MILESTONE" just "Posted Values".
I was expecting that it would just show all Milestone types as per Master Data but just the Milestones that are posted for this result.
I would appreciate a solution to this issue and an explanation to why it hangs when I add the "MILESTONE" characteristic to the definition as explained above.
    Thanks in advance..
    Stevo

    Hello there,
Putting Milestone in the rows in the query definition is not being hang there (i.e., while creating and saving the query) right?
It is stucked while executing the query isn't it so?
That's because you have too many records to be desaggregated by milestone characteristic, and this is indepently of posted values in the characteristic settings.
Putting milestone characteristic in the free characteristics will allow you to run the query, but desaggregate it (add it to the rows) will be to much information to read from your dataprovider (this is just a guess).
If it is being stucked in query execution whike milestone is in the rows. Try this for example:
Add milestone to the free chars. Execute the query. Filter milestone characteristic while still in the free rows and choose a value that you are pretty sure has the smallest records in the Dataprovider (could be for example value #). Than drill down milestone to the rows. You'll see that it can be executed without any problem.
    Diogo.
