HDD problem after installing new SSD

i bought a Kingstone SSD 60GB, and procced to a clean installation in my HP DV7-1020us laptop wich i love. All nice and good... i got out the HDD, install SSD in previously used HDD slot, install windows 7 on SSD partition, put the HDD in second hard drive bay that was it.
The problem is... after couples shuts down of my laptop (still working good), one time when i started, my laptop spent like 10-15 mins trying to start up the windows , ( i could hear my old HDD working hard) and after that i wanted to reach my HDD but i couldnt... i double click on the partition i want to open and my HDD starts working hard hard and in the end it says that i need to format it so i can acces it.  My hdd haves 3 partitions... i runned disk checks and repairs and still doing the same. I finally formated all of it... all of my HDD partitions including the Recovery partition. My HDD works fine until i shut down my laptop for the first time after formating, then another 10-15 mins to start up and shut down the windows. Also if i connect my hdd via USB everything is fine ( if i previously format the HDD and connect it via USB).  But if i move it back into my laptop in my sata slot things goes bad again. Also if i wait 10 mins at start up, get the hdd out and connect it via usb it still runs very ver very slow, and one partition asks me for formating. So i'm thinking that my second sata slot connection does something bad to my hdd.
I'm thinking that my second sata slot haves some problems... what should i do? I dont like my HDD working on my USB, it's a laptop, everything has to be integrated.
Oh and if i move my ssd from first sata slot to my second one, it says  "please insert bootable device...."
Thank you, if u need more information please ask me

Hi mykey651,
Thank you for your query, I will do my utmost to assist you.
I grasp you have installed a SSD drive as the main drive and the original drive as a secondary. All works well until you reboot and then it is unable to locate the SSD.
Here is a link to HP Notebook Hard Drives & Solid State Drives Identifying, Preventing, Diagnosing and Recovering from...
If that has not helped, I suggest you go out to the bios and restore the defaults.  This will reset the system and make it scan for  installed hardware.  This should help it to find the new SSD as the boot drive.

  • Instability after installing new SSD

Yes, I have updated the firmware,  I'm also running in AHCI mode.  I believe I'm up to date on all my drivers and I ran memtest to check my RAM and everything turned out OK.  I don't know what else to check.  Both SSD's couldn't possibly
    be bad.

  • Permissions problems after installing new hard drive

I backed up my old hard drive with SuperDuper!, then installed a new hard drive. When I tried to install my backup on the new hard drive with Disk Utility, it would work fine and then hang. It wouldn't finish, even overnight. So I installed a clean copy of leopard on the new hard drive, and then used Migration Assistant to move everything over from my backup. Worked great, until I actually tried to use the computer. Tons of permissions issues, mail and address book wouldn't run, Skype won't run even after installing an upgraded version, etc. What's weird, is my main account is an administrator account, but logging on as root and trying to remove admin permissions from my main account, the checkbox is greyed out! I also don't have a UID 501 on the system. I'm 502, and my wife's account is 503. I can't fix permissions from the finder, and in certain cases can't get them changed in terminal logged in as root. I don't know how to get my data from my old hard drive (which is running 10.5.1) to my new hard drive (also 10.5.1) Please help me! Thanks.

    Hey Shawn,
Have you looked at the permissions with "Get Info"? Are they listed as belonging to "unkown user"?
First of all, see the Apple doc <href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876">Administator user changed to standard.
After you clear that up, you'll probably have to remove the "unkown user" and add your user as the owner of all your folders. During that process, finder will probably crash. At that point, try running <a href="http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5670342#5670342>this terminal command described in "mlaster's" second posting.
    Good luck!

  • Exchange 2007 - Outlook Anywhere problems after installing new SSL cert

*** Original thread posted on wrong forum ***
    Hi all,
Exchange 2007 environment (2x CAS, ISA2006). Not much familiar with Exchange.
Problem: 20-odd machines off the domain use Outlook Anywhere (XP with Outlook 2010). AUthentication pop-up and not able to connect.
Company has recently changed its name and we have to renewed the SSL cert. Previous SSL cert. was issued to: webmail.oldcompname.co.uk (several SANs on that cert., including internal server names).
Applied for a new UCC SSL cert issued to: newcompanyname.com (also includes webmail.newcompanyname.com ; autodiscover.newcompanyname.com + old SANs).
The setting on those machines point the proxy to the following:
Https://webmail.oldcompname.co.uk (which is fine since it is in the cert and can be accessed)
Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their cert.:
msstd:webmail.oldcompname.co.uk (I believe this is the problem since the new UCC SSL cert. was issued to newcompanyname.com).
Browsing technet + internet it seems that I need to look into OutlookProvider EXPR.
When I run Get-OutlookProvider everything is blank (I believe I should be concerned to EXPR only for Outlook Anywhere).
I am thinking of running: Set-OutlookProvider -Identity EXPR -CertPrincipalName msstd:newcomanyname.com
My only concern is whether this might break something else in the Exchange environment, especially as we have 100+ users on smartphones connecting via SSL on webmail.oldcompname.co.uk
Is it save to run this command? Do I need to re-start IIS? Do I need to look into any settings on ISA2006?
    Comments/help are much appreciated.
    Regards

    Hi,
According to the description, I found that we re-new a SSL certificate.
"I am thinking of running: Set-OutlookProvider -Identity EXPR -CertPrincipalName msstd:newcomanyname.com"
Just do it. Then remove the old certificate on ISA server and install a new one.

  • Startup problems after instaling new graphics card drivers

PC:    HP   p6520 f    with a 400 watt power supply
video card:    AMD Radeon 6570   (MD1GD3)
After getting the 400 watt power supply, I was able to uninstall the intergrated graphics card's drivers, but I can't succsesfully startup after installing drivers for the new card without a system restore, which of course gets rid of the new drivers.
I've tried newer drivers, but those don't work either.
    Any suggestions?

Hello Sev_07.  I understand you're unable to install your video card drivers.
Are you receiving an error on boot?
Are you experiencing any issues with other pieces of hardware?
Have you tried running HP Support Assistant and Windows Update to ensure all of the software and drivers are completely up to date?
It may also be helpful for you to provide your product number so I can look at your computer's specifications.  This document can show you where this is located.

  • Problems after installing new HDD into Satellite M70-151

I have a Satellite M70-151 the hard drive gave up and was unreadable, prior to this I was using with my Desktop via a router it worked great. I had no option but to install a new Hard Drive now in the System Manager I get Yellow question marks against:
    Other Devices:
    ? Mass Storage Controller
    ? Network Controller
    ? PCI Modem
    ? Video Controller (VGA compatable)
I have searched and searched but cannot find any drivers for these 4 things
I have sound but only faint, I no longer have a wireless capability Yes I have tried to install the correct (as advised from Toshiba) Lan Driver [LInk to driver|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?ID=58122&OSID=10&drive rLanguage=42&selectedLanguage=13&driverCountry=41& selectedCountry=8]
When I try to install it says "The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system.
    Insert or Reinsert now"
I know I am being thick but I was under the impression that the Lan was built into the Notebook? :_|
I would be sincerely grateful for any advice from my Peers. :)
    Stuart

    Hello Stuart
To be honest I really do not know what you do exactly. After HDD exchange, for me, the first step you should do is to make clean OS using delivered recovery media. It is fastest and best way to have fresh installed OS.
So, if you do not have this recovery media you must use original Microsoft installations CD. all drivers, tools and utilities for this notebook model you can find and download from Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
Before you start drivers installation, please download and check Installations Instructions document. Please follow the installations order. It is very important and following this installations order you will be able to install all Toshiba stuff properly.

  • Problem after installing new AMD FX-4170 processor

    Hello,
i just installed AMD FX-4170 on my MSI 890GXM-G65 mainboard. Then, when i start my computer, everything seems to be fine, all fans are working, those 4 proc. power LEDs  are shining, everything is powered. But i get no signal to my monitor, cant get to BIOS, keyboard not working, nothing.  I tried two different graphic cards, even that integrated one (not sure if it would work, when disabled in BIOS) nothing changed.
Same problem is when i place back the old Phenom processor. Black screen, from time to time No signal message on my monitor.
I have the lates BIOS 1.d.
    Any suggestion?
Or am I screwed and have to buy new maiboard, because this one is somehow damaged?

clear CMOS helped.  Computer is not very stable, second SSD disk (F: )(not the one with system) keeps disconnecting after some period of time, but at least i see what is happening it does not even show System reserved area (E: )of the system disk (C: ), that is normally visible...
RAID is set to AHCI, so it is ok.. the trick must be somewhere else.. i will check BIOS one more...

  • Installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard after installing new SSD

I am having trouble when partitioning the drive (SanDisk Ultra II SSD installed in MacBook Pro 2012) before installing snow leopard as it seems to have stalled half way through. I don't want to quit if it is going to make the new hard drive 'non-operational' as the dialogue box is saying...ideas anyone?

I've now tried starting in internet recovery mode (command option R) as well as trying to start from the installation disk (holding down option on start up then clicking on the disk icon) but have encountered problems with both options.
    command option R:
Get to the point of partitioning the new hard drive, it looks like it's going to work and then gets stuck at 'mounting disk'
    option (original disk install)
starts up fine, but then gets stuck on the apple grey screen.
I'm in real need of assistance at this point as I'm out of ideas!

  • Problems after installing new memory stick

The problem that I have is this:
I have an iMac PPC G5 2.1 GHz 20" w/ built-in iSight which was purchased in April 2006. Last week I purchased a certified 1 GB stick of RAM from OWC. I installed the RAM per the instructions given in the owner's manual. I restarted my computer and the RAM was not recognized in "About This Mac", nor was it listed in the Apple System Profiler. I thought that maybe I hadn't seated the RAM properly, so I removed the stick and repeated the installation process. I called and spoke to a tech at OWC who walked me through resetting the PRAM and NVRAM. This was not successful in forcing the RAM to be recognized. I have returned the RAM to OWC and am expecting a replacement from them within the next week or two.
(As a side note, after each repeat of the process, the computer would not shutdown as quickly as it had been since I purchased it. I waited for one minute and then forced a shutdown via hoding the power button in. I made two attempts at a clean install of the OS. Both times there was an error at the very beginning of the install process that would not allow it to continue and required a restart). I am highly concerned about the shutdown issue and the inability to re-install the OS.
Has anybody had or heard of an issue like the one that I have just decribed?
    iMac G5 20" iSight   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   w/ Bluetooth keyboard & mouse

I completed the Disk Warrior rebuild but it did not solve my problem. It has even added a new problem. Now the "Starting Mac OS X..." progress bar that runs prior to the appearance of the desktop image is still on my screen after the desktop image is loaded. It is starting to look like I need a fresh install of the OS, but I can't do that either. Somebody please help!!! I am glad that I bought the AppleCare protection.
I am going to give the "fsck" thing a try before I give up.

  • How to increase disk read and write speed after installing new SSD (2009 Macbook Pro)? Why not as fast as advertised?

    Hi everyone,
I just installed a Crucial MX10512 GB SSD into my 2009 Macbook Pro. It's definitely much faster, but the read and write disk speed is around 200 Mb/s for both versus the 300-500 Mb/s that the SSD advertised. Any ideas as to why? And is there anything I can do to make it faster? Before I installed it, it was between 80-90 Mb/s.
    Specs:
    - currently have about 460 of 511 GB of storage available
    - am using 2GB of memory
    - running on 10.10.2 Yosemite
    Thanks!

    nataliemint wrote:
Drew, forgive me for being so computer-incompetent but how would I boot from another OS? And shouldn't I be checking the read speeds on my current OS (Yosemite) anyways because I want to know how the SSD is performing on the OS I use? And finally, what kind of resources would it be using that would be slowing down my SSD?
Sorry for all the questions - I'm not a Macbook wiz by any means!
You could make a clone of your internal OS onto an external disk. Hopefully you already have a backup of some form
A clone is a full copy, so you can boot from it. It makes a good backup as well as being useful to test things like this.
Carbon Copy Cloner will make one or you can use Disk Utility to 'restore' your OS from the internal disk to an external one.
Ideally the external disk is a fast disk with a fast 'interface' like Thunderbolt, Firewire 800 or USB3. USB2 can work, but it is slow & may effect the test.
You connect the clone, hold alt at startup & select the external disk in the 'boot manager'. When the Mac is finished booting run the speed tester.
    Maybe this one…
    https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/blackmagic-disk-speed-test/id425264550
Test the internal & compare to the previous tests
A running OS will do the following on it's boot disk…
Write/ read cache files from running apps
Write/ read memory to disk if memory is running low
Index new files if content is changing or being updated
Copy files for backing up (Time Machine or any other scheduled tasks)
Networking can also trigger read/ write on the disk too.
You may not have much activity that effects a disk speed test, but you can't really be sure unless that disk is not being used for other tasks.
Disk testing is an art & science in itself, see this if you want to get an idea …
    http://macperformanceguide.com/topics/topic-Storage.html
Simply knowing that it's about twice the speed would be enough to cheer me up

  • Problems after installing new version o iphone 3gs

I installed this evening the new version of my iphone 3gs and since then I cannot use my iphone nor reinitialise it beause it asks me to connect to itunes. When i connect it to the computer it say there is no pilot and doesnt manage to install a new pilot I telecharged the last version of itunes and reinstallated it, try again to reinstall the pilot but impossible to connect and I can't use my iphone
    Help me please

    A warm welcome Sabina!
i wonder if the issue is the new battery (can that cause a slow down
    and malfunction of this sort).
    Not too likely at all.
or if my HD is the problem.
Very likely, I would expect all Laptop HDs 4 or more years old to be failing by now.
i just read somewhere that whenever we do the updates we're supposed to do the permissions and i never knew to do that -- so i haven't ever done it. could that be the problem.
That and Verifying or Repairing the HD are sort of like looking both ways before you cross the street, neither may be necessary to cross the street, but it certainly can prevent problems during the crossing!
should i do a clean install of the system software and start from scratch.
I really think the Internal HD is on it's way out, but if you have a good/complete backup, actually a bootable clone on an external Firewire Drive is preferable... Best way to get an exact bootable copy of your old drive to the new one is with Carbon Copy Cloner...
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
thoughts would be appreciated. i don't have the money to take it anywhere to be fixed or to buy new -- so any help is greatly appreciated.
Without Money to replace the HD, you may be stuck booting off an external HD

  • Another volume control problem after installing new software

I'm having a different volume control problem than the previous poster.
When I turn my ipod touch on, the volume control stays on the screen. I can't do anything to get rid of it. When I go into settings/sounds, the control goes away on the screen, but it will not let me turn the volume up. When I try to listen to music through my headphones, I can turn the volume up but then it automatically turns itself down. The same thing happens when I try to turn the volume up from the side control. It worked fine this morning before I installed the new software and now it's acting buggy. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • Problem after installing new ram

Just installed 1 MB of new ram. Everything appears to work with one very annoying problem that never existed prior to installation of ram. The problem is that the window moves slightly with any movement of the mouse. Not a great deal but enough to hide the menu at top of screen. I ran an Apple Hardware Test and all hardware passed. I changed the mouse but no cure. This happens with nothing running so I assume it is not software. It doesn't appear to affect the operation but it tends to make one sea sick with the up and down and side to side motion anytime the mouse is moved.
Shure would appreciate any help with this.
