Heads up to POP email users

Took me two chats and two visits to Genius Bar ... none of which helped in the slightest ... only to have my internet provider finally explain the problem to me.  Looks like iPhone no longer supports POPmail accounts.  That means, if you delete it on your phone, its gone from your email server too.  Not a huge issue unless you also had an email program on your computer that was downloading emails and NOT leaving a copy on the server (like mine was set up).  I kept wondering why my emails were "disappearing" from my iPhone after they were downloaded on my computer.  Because IMAP is the supported setup, it is a reflection (or sync) of what's on your server.  I would have assumed SOMEONE I came across at Apple would have known this.  Apparently not.  Thank you Cox Communications for explaining it to me.

While I don't dispute this is true for Cox Communications, it is certainly not true for all POP email accounts.
In particular, Verizon POP email is one counterexample.  Verizon continues to offer Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Verizon > [your email] > Advanced > Delete From Server > [condition under which the email is deleted].

  • I created a mobileconfig to setup the users POP email accounts but it creates to accounts on their device.  Why?

I created a mobileconfig profile using the Apple Configurator to help our users setup their POP email account.  For some reason the configuration creates two email accounts in iOS 8 but only one in iOS 6.  When I delete the profile in iOS 8 it only deletes one of the accounts and leaves the other as an orphan.  I cannot even manually delete the account that is left behind.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Funny,
Right after I posted this I found the solution......  The key was not modifying the Script after it is created.  I guess the editor was putting in some incompatible characters somewhere.  Anyway it is working great now.

  • I cannot add a new pop email account in my "iphone 6"

I cannot add a new pop email account in my iphone, when i confirmed "saving account" it is automatically being closed and kick-out me from?
It is iPhone 6 and the system is iOS 8.1
I am going to select "Others" and then my user name, password and "next".
Then IMAP and POP settings screen is coming. I am going to select "POP" with my incoming and outgoing server details.
And finally I am going to proceed with "save".... So... pupff........ it is going, closing, kicking me out. Maybe 20-25 times since yesterday I try it but no win.
What should I do for these my friends. This is my business email... It was working before in iPhone 5s and afte iPhone 6 I make reset for 5s.
I try later on for 5s again. It make me the same thing also. They are not allowing me to add a new pop email address.

    Is it your own domain?
Have you tried setting up as Exchange?

  • SharePoint Online and POP email

I have a client who is interested in using SharePoint Online, but they are using pop email hosted by Rackspace. Can someone tell me if this will cause any issues with SharePoint, is there any limitation in SharePoint functionality when doing this? Would
email enable workflows still work with POP accounts.  Also are there any issues with SSO and Federation with AD using SharePoint Online?
    Thank you for the help.
Thanks in advance for your time. Steven

    Hi,
The email address for users when used in a workflow is the email address set in SharePoint Admins User Profiles in Office 365. The field is called Work Email. This is automatically populated with the primary SMTP address of the user and mail is sent to it
if licensed for Exchange Online. Depending on the workflow, you should be able to send mail to external users, because the workflow when triggered will fall dependant on the permission of the user initiating the workflow.
No, there are no real issues with SSO (ADFS 2) or DirSync and SP Online... Just be sure to be mindful of deleting and recreating users, or stopping and starting sync because you could run into permissions issues within Sharepoint Online due to user guid
    conflicts.

  • Problem sending pop email

I have a problem sending (not receiving) pop email.
I am connected directly to my ISP (virgin.net, part of virginmedia.com) on adsl – (ie not trying to connect via another isp) - sharing the internet connection wirelessly via a modem/router to 2 Macs (macbooks), a Vista laptop and wiredly to an XP desktop.
The problem only happens with the Macs, not the Windows machines. One of the Macs is running Tiger with mail 2.1.3, the other Leopard with mail 3.2. Both are affected.
The problem only arises when trying to send longer messages (a few paragraphs - not MB). There is no problem sending short (one or two word) messages. I'm not sure where the cutoff comes.
What happens is that the messages are simply timed out, after a lengthy attempt to send. The error message is generally
‘The server response was: 4.4.2 omf09.hostedemail.com Error: timeout exceeded ‘
but sometimes (more recently, perhaps as a result of all the fiddling I describe below)
‘An error occurred while delivering this message via the SMTP server "(null)" ‘
This started on Friday 30th May. That day we woke up to find we were unable to receive email either. Looking at the mail accounts, I saw that the (incoming) authentication had spontaneously(?) changed from "password" to MD5 challenge response. Since returning it to password, we've been able to receive mail on both machines.
We only noticed the problem with sending a few days later as we hadn’t tried to send any longer messages; so it’s not absolutely certain that it’s related – but it seems likely.
We can send pop email from our googlemail accounts. We can also use virgin’s webmail with no problems.
This is what I’ve tried to resolve the problem:
checked that the server etc settings are configured according to Virgin’s instructions at
    http://www.virginmedia.com/help/email/set-up-pop-email.php#OS_X103
(on the advice of support there) deleted one of the affected accounts (and also removed the smtp server from the server list) and recreated it. No effect.
Installed Thunderbird and set up the same account. Same problem there.
Used Connection Doctor – shows connections to all servers as green
Rebooted the modem/ router, and both machines
    Repaired permissions
    Nothing seems to help.
I’ve done all this on the Tiger mac, on the theory that once I find the solution there is will also apply to the Leopard one ie that it’s not a glitch of some recent Leopard update.
Because the Windows machines (and webmail) work fine, Virgin clearly think that this is simply a Mac problem. I suspect that they have changed something in their setup, as it seems unlikely that it would otherwise affect two Macs running different versions of OSX in the same way.
I’ve only recently persuaded my wife to switch to a Macbook after her experience of Vista so this is not only annoying but embarrassing!
    David

I have a Mac and have had the same problem with Virgin – I have been unable to send emails of more than about 300 words, or any replies or attachments, since May 30, the day Virgin “improved” their email services. Receiving emails and using webmail are not affected. Virgin’s helpline has been totally unhelpful, refusing to accept that it has anything to do with them or that some other Mac users are affected in the same way. Their fault team insists it’s a problem with my computer. I have O.S. 10.5.3 Leopard, having just upgraded, but the problem occurred when I was still on O.S. 10.4. Tiger. My email program is Entourage (which Virgin’s helpline hasn’t even heard of!). When the problem first occurred, I wasn’t able to send any emails, but by changing the Accounts advanced settings to what Virgin recommended when I phoned them, I could at least send short emails. (Their announcement of the email changes said, “Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything.”) Virgin are trying to put a huge spin on this shabby treatment of Mac customers by saying, “We’re doing lots of things to make your experience with us even better” – but with friends like this, who needs enemies?

  • New Outlook 2013 Installation - How to configure for default pop email and access exchange 2003 server for shared folders only

I have successfully installed and configured outlook 2013 to access my pop.integra.net email accounts.  We have an 2003 exchange server we use for shared folders which I am having difficulty accessing.
My preference would be to set up my access to the exchange server and use the same data folders for email as are in use for my pop email account.  In outlook 2003 this was simple, but in 2007 on up it seems this feature has been hobbled.  Is there
a workaround to get both accounts to use the same database?
Next issue is if I use the Mail client wizard under Control Panel to set up access to the exchange server - everything looks fine but when launching outlook I receive the following 2 error messages:
"The resource that you are trying to use is located on an unsupported version of Microsoft Exchange.  Contact your e-mail administrator for assistance."
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened.  Your Microsoft Exchange administrator has blocked the version of Outlook that your are using.  Contact your administrator for assistance."
Obviously the optimal solution is to upgrade the Exchange Server - assuming that is not an option - are there any workarounds?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Downgraded to Office 2007.
So now have a new Windows 8.1 laptop with outlook 2007 installed.
From what I have been told this should allow me to connect to the Exchange2003 server
I set up the pop account - works fine
set up the exchange account through Mail.exe and am unable to launch outlook.
    "Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable"
"Retry - Work Offline - Cancel"
    Then
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook.  Cannot open the Outlook Window.  The set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."
The data file path is the same for both the pop account and the exchange account:
    C:\Users\Scott\app data\local\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst
How do I get this to work?

  • Problems with IPhone 4S and pop email

    Hi
I'd be very grateful if someone here is able to help me
I recently bought an IPhone 4S and am having problems with the two pop email accounts I need to put on it.
When I use these settings below (sent to me by my web hosting company) I get the message
The POP server "mail.myemailaddress.com" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming Mail Server" field
When I try and send out emails I get the message
    Cannot Send Mail
The connection to the outgoing server "smtp.myemailaddress.com" failed
    I've also had the message
    CANNOT SEND MAIL
a copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient (email address) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.
    Settings I've put in are
    Pop Account
    Incoming mail server
    Host name  mail.myemailaddress
    User name  my email address
    Password    my password
    Outgoing
    SMTP smtp.myemailaddress
    Advanced
    Use SSL off
    authentication - password
    server port 25
I've also tried using port 26, port 110 and port 995 with SSL enabled and no luck with any of them
I've contacted my web hosting comapny but they can't help so anyting suggested here will be very gratefully received

Some folks think the problem is due to poor solder connections of the WiFi chip on the card. Heating may expand the joints to cause temporary connectivity. The chip itself could be of low tolerance, and the iOS update causes it to fail the threshold. If you have tried the software resets, then the cure is to reflow the solder of the chip to the WiFi card, or to replace the WiFi card. Apple will not "own" this problem, even though it seems to be widespread. Apple offers to renew your contract for a new iPhone at $199. Certain repair shops will tackle this problem, although many local shops will not. In the US try iFix Miami Beach. See them on eBay <http://www.ebay.com/itm/iPhone-4S-Grayed-Out-Wifi-Wireless-Fix-Repair-Service-Tr usted-Specialists-/161160765436?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1120> for a $69 fix. They fixed my iPhone 4S and returned within a week (even over the Memorial Day holiday weekend). In Europe, I have read about, but have not tried PodMod <http://www.podmod.org>

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Pop email problem since Friday

    HI everyone,
I got my z10 a couple of months ago and am with T mobile/EE in the UK.  Everything worked fine til Friday last week. Since then, my Pop email account has been able to pick up emails but not send them - a clock  appears instead of a tick to say they are sent. Going into set up, I am told that the settings are wrong and I need to check them and try again.  My hotmail account works fine, but I can no longer access the junk email, which should be a blessing, you might say, but because I get so much rubbish sent, my hotmail is set to exclusive so I do need to check the junk daily to see if anyone not in my address book has contacted me.  I can live without this, however, but the other issue with my pop account is doing my head in.
T mobile say it is a work-related issue and the settings must have changed. My phone is not a work phone but a private one, but I am part of a franchise so I do have an account loosely related to work though they don't really oversee it. The IT people at head office at any rate say that nothing has changed there and the ports and smtp address etc are still the same and that the other 700 franchisees have not reported any issues with their phones. In the mean time, my phone does not work properly but I am stuck with it on contract as T mobile say they only guarantee phones with non-pop accounts. I see there is a known issue with pop accounts on the z10 but does anyone have any idea when the fix is rolling out to the UK? T mobile told me fixes come out instantaneously across the world but I can see little evidence of this. If there is not a fix and I cannot take it back to t mobile to change it, can I send it to Blackberry?
Thanks for any advice you can offer,
    Sarah

    The same problem here!
Since the last software update yesterday!
I have 1 Hotmail account (works fine) and 2 pop accounts (I can receive but not send!).

  • Syncing 7 pushing POP email from my mac to iPhone with Mobile ME

I was under the impression that the mobile sync function in iphone 2.0 would allow me to push my pop email in Mail, calenders, and contacts on my mac to my iphone. I soon realized that I would have to subscribe to Mobile to accomplish this. Though now I have subscribed to mobile me all I am able to do is push calenders and contacts from my mac and not my pop email from Mail. Am I correct in saying this is not possible? Why would Apple leave this function out of mobile sync? I was able to do this on my MotoQ with Microsoft active sync! Any help?

The MobileMe sync function is for a MobileMe account only.
I wasn't aware that ActiveSync allowed for syncing with non-Exchange accounts.
You can have MobileMe check the incoming mail server for a POP account, or you can have your POP account forwarded to your MobileMe account or email address. The problem with this is when replying to or forwarding a message received from another account, the message will be sent from your MobileMe account.
The Mail.app on your Mac includes a Reply To field for entering a different email address to appear as the email address to be used by a recipient when replying to a received message from another account, but the iPhone's Mail client does not include a Reply To field for the message header. With the Mail.app, I believe this muse be entered manually for each message.

  • Trouble setting up POP email account

I am trying to set up my POP email account on my iPhone and it is not recognizing the outgoing SMTP server. I have the settings correct. My mail server is mail.adelphia.net for both incoming and outgoing mail. Any suggestions?

update: decided just to change my password with the server when I realized that it was user error- the wrong password was in fact being typed in blush. So now I don't get the any errors. I guess it works, no email on the phone yet, but the computer is on with outlook running, and I do believe it takes the mail off the server when it downloads it- so I don't think there's mail there for the iPhone to see.
Now, do you think you could help me with another iPhone question I have? It's really simple. It deals with when I activated yesterday- I got booted out of the activation sequence due to an incoming call from some random person looking for the owner of the old number i'd JUST been assigned and had JUST gone active (I have a post on the board about it) and I didn't get to do anything that comes up on the iTunes screen after it gives you your phone number. Therefore, I didn't get to name my iPhone or sync with outlook. My two questions are these:
Can I still name the iPhone, or do I have to somehow reset it? And if I have to reset it- do I loose all the contacts I entered (they're not in outlook, they were in my other phone) or can I somehow sync to iTunes and have the contacts saved before restoring?
Next, the iPhone doesn't sync to Outlook (i have 2003 on Vista) at all. Because I was booted out of activation, I had to try a manual sync. I can get emails because that was just fixed, but it doesn't give me my contacts or calendar. The syncs for bookmarks off IE worked. I haven't tried a sync to transfer music and videos yet. Is there something I'm not doing right as to why it won't give me Outlook? I notice that there is only one Apple add-in running in outlook, and someone said something about needing two? Plus, Vista gives me an error that the Outlook sync server has quit every time I try to sync.
Can you help with any of that?

  • POP email account - Will IPhone leave emails on server?

    Hi,
I am a former Blackberry user.
If I set iPhone to retrieve messages from my POP email address, do I have the option of leaving those messages on the server so that I can download them later to my Outlook 2007 via the send and receive option?
Does iPhone delete the emails that it receives from the POP email account? I assume that iPhone just "copies" the emails, like Blackberry.
I just want to make sure that it is like Blackberry, where I can access my emails from iPhone and still have my emails download to Outlook.
    Thank you!

    Dear Allan
My iPhone worked perfectly but yesterday it wouldn't sync with my Mac: it didn't add new entries in my Address Book (I have 1300 and cannot do this by hand!). Eventually I started afresh ... I managed the sync after resetting sync history (all entries on Mac now on iPhone, but new ones on iPhone are now gone)
Furthermore, I set everything re Mail and Safari like it was (I wrote it down the first time I did this and couldn't get it going) but no go: "Could not activate EDGE: You are not subscribed to EDGE". I do not use EDGE [have a POP3 account] - I did set Network to Data Roaming (like the first time) but doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

  • HT6030 Mac Mail 7.1 has stopped importing my POP emails from the Server

I have suddenly realised (over the past 2 weeks) that Mail has stopped importing my POP emails from the Server, at first I thought it was just that no-one was sendfing me any, however, I created an Account with Thunderbird and suddenly received dozens of them. I've tried many of the "googled" fixes but none seem to work for me....
Can anyone help me to get my Apple Mail performing correctly please.

    Do a backup.
Take notes of all account information or take screen shots. You may need to set the accounts up again. Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.
Information learned from Linc Davis. leonie also supplied some information.

  • POP email iPad setup mystery and misery

Wow...it was easy on my macs and my iphone, but I've spent the better part of a day trying to create one successful POP email address on my iPad (for an existing account I use right at my desk) through my company server, with my ISP as secondary server. It begins with difficulties verifying at creation of account under "Other", then it asks if I want to try without SSL, I do, it can't verify, but I set up anyways, and then go to the settings and begin trying every darn possibility and variable under names, usernames, passwords, ports, etc. I swear I'd pay someone $100 bucks right about now to whisper the secret solution in my ear. I've deleted the account, started new, called my ISP liaison to verify their secondary server information, etc. It just shoudn't be this hard. I'm now in one of my every three years or so hating apple modes...a regular occurence since, well, 1984. Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated, and I'll feedback with settings, etc. It's gotta be one tiny little thing that I'm missing.

In case this will help anyone else with this issue.
Friendly folks at applecare helped walk me through what I'd been trying. Same setup attempts and settings were put in place. Same result. Then he suggested I go to work....and sync my e-mail accounts through iTunes. I did that after deleting all failed POP accounts I tried to set up, and deleting my outgoing POP servers on my iPad mail accounts settings.
Did that this morning. Went to my local bagel shop, hopped on WiFi. Bingo...all is well. So, in theory, my home wifi connection SHOULD have allowed me to set up new POP e-mail accounts. But I banged my head on that wall. And it didn't work.
So...if it helps. Sync through iTunes to set up existing POP email accounts you have, THEN join a wifi network and see if all is good, if you're having the trouble I experienced.
