Heavy/Lightweight User Ids and Applications

A common scenario is that an application, particularly a Java one, just connects to the Oracle database with one application user id. So the database does not know which human user is actually performing queries etc.
This is to avoid having to define users and roles etc. for each of many, many human users of the application. And to make the connection strings easy, connection pooling OK etc.
It also makes things like the fine grained auditing almost useless.
Now I vaguely remember that there was some sort of light weight user id that could be passed from the application to the database which could be used for auditing etc. but was not used for access control, role membership etc.
What is this called and how does it work?
Do people have an idea in general how applications manage database roles in general?
Thanks,
Anthony

I suspect you want to go to http://asktom.oracle.com and search for "proxy authentication"

  • HT204053 Using multi-user IDS and passwords to access the apps website is turning me into an Apple hater, frankly. Am I alone in the crowd of users?

Ihave abouy 4-5 different user IDS and passwords that I have to juggle to get access to the Apps store. Almost every time I try to get an update, etc., I have to go through the routine of either changing both user ID and password, or just the password. I am a long-time Apple customer but have drifted as far as possible from using Apple updates and purchases. It's just not worth the time, exasperation and energy involved. I can understand that Apple doesn't want to have varied IDs wrapped into a single ID, but it would be helpful if Apple took the time to delete all but one user ID, upon the request of an Apple customer, instead of spending so much time issuing yet another iPad and iPhone. At least, have mercy on some of Apple customers who are still buying snd using laptops and desk tops. HELP!!!

I'm not sure how you came to have so many Apple IDs, but I'd suggest that you simplify things.
I just checked the "Apple ID Support" page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/
as I imagine you have, too, and I find no instructions for closing or deleting an Apple ID, but you could simplify things quite a bit by using only one Apple ID on all of your devices.
It will take a bit of time, but I think you'll find that it's worth it.
If I were you, I would just delete all purchased apps (if you've purchased music, that's a whole different issue - but you could probably simplify your music purchases, too) from all devices accept one - your most "important" device -  and log out from all other devices. Then log in from those other devices using your preferred Apple ID, and reinstall the apps and other stuff.
It's going to be tedious, and it'll take some time, but I think you'll have a much better experience over the long term.
For one thing, you'd always be notified automatically to update/upgrade your stuff, and your log-ins to do so would be much easier.
I know it's not good news, but I hope it helps.

  • Is there a way to sync my saved user ids and passwords between Mac and iPhone using iCloud?

Is there a way to sync my saved user ids and passwords in Safari between Mac and iPhone using iCloud? Like I can do using Chrome for Mac and iOS...

You three would do better to sync to google directly.  Google has a blackberry app that will allow you to sync your contacts and calendars.  The app isn't perfect, but it works reasonably well, especially if you're just using one calendar to sync.
Then there's plenty of ways to sync those to your iPad using Google, including Exchange, or simply adding it as a google account.
As for iCloud, there really isn't any supported or unsupported method to do what you're trying to do, at least at this time.  If there is, it would definitely be a hack and I would be wary of risking your contact or calendar data on it..

  • Moving all user data and applications

Ok,  so my previous problem was moving from an old HD to a new one.  Now I know how to do that by booting to the HD Recovery Disk and using Disk Utility.  The problem I have is that DU won't move my files from the 2TB to the 1TB because it says the 1TB has enough space.  I know for certain that the files on the 2TB are totalling less than 1TB by using "get info."
    So my question is two-fold:
    1.  Why would it not allow me to move it?
    2.  Is there a way to just move the OS, applications, and user information (ie logins, passwords, bookmarks)?  I can manually move the documents, photos, music, and videos to a third hard drive temporarily.  What if I installed OSX Mavericks on the new 1TB hard drive first, could I then port the applications and user info?

Use Carbon Copy Cloner to migrate an OS or selectively move user files and data to a new drive.
Depends on what the 1TB drive has on it. DU would not do a smart update, it would want to erase and restore or install a new system.
Erase and clone. Or erase and install. Setup Assistant afterwards can import files, but many of us want to isolate the user from the syst em and have each on separate drives, less I/O contention, better performace. One drive does not need to wait on the other.

I would hope folks save the system inst aller first before running the install or update so they don't need to redownload again.

  • User IDs and their email addresses

Try this.  Sorry if it's not detailed enough
    1. Go to transaction SQVI.
    2. In the input field Quick View give the any name for query for example Z_EMAIL_ADD.
    3. Choose create option. In the resulting pop up give description in Title field. In data source choose TABLE JOIN. Select Basis mode.
    4. In the next screen choose INSERT TABLE pushbutton and in the pop up give USR21. Then again choose INSERT TABLE pushbutton and this time give ADR6.
    5. Now go back using back arrow or F3.
    6. Now in the new screen you will be under the tab strip List fld select.. From that entries under available filed (on right hand side) select User name in user master record and the first entry for Internet mail (SMTP) address. Now using single arrow pushbutton pointing towards left move these fields to tabstrip List fld select.
    7. Now go to tabstrip selection filed. As done in step 6 move User name in user master record under it.
    8. Save the changes and go back. A pop up will come asking you to save quick view Z_EMAIL_ADD. Choose yes.
    9. Now execute the query. In the input field you can give one user or multiple users at a given time.
This approach is easier and time saving in my opinion and gives output in desirable format.

  • I kept all my site-specific user IDs and passwords in the "notes" section under Organize Bookmarks. I can't find Organize Bookmarks any more, and the Show All Bookmarks doesn't have this feature! HELP!

Many sites require me to set up an account, and all have differing requirements for user names and passwords. In the old Firefox, in the Organize Bookmarks section, when you look at any bookmarked site, there was a place at the bottom (More...) where you could write notes to yourself. I used this space to write down my username and password for that site. Since I only visit some sites annually (to renew membership, etc or pay annual dues) I can't remember the passwords or user names. PLEASE tell me I haven't lost all that information! If I've lost all those passwords and user IDs I'm royally screwed! Thanks

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Norton Manage Logins does not automatically enter user ids and passwords

I have Norton 360 v. 4.3 installed and one of the features is Manage Log ins. When you go to a web page it automatically puts in the user id and password to log into the website. When I upgraded to Firefox 4.0 this feature does not work any more. I have searched the help database and can't find a solution. Does anyone know how to activate this feature? Thanks.

Norton have indicated they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US

  • Recovering user profiles and applications from old iMac HDD

Wanting to upgrade my 2007 24" iMac, I replaced the HDD with a SSD and did a fresh install of Mt Lion. The goal is to transfer applications and usere profiles back to the iMac from the old drive. I want to keep personal files (doc, pix, ect) on the old drive that is connect via USB in an external case. Can this be done.
I do not have a backup of the drive either. Can I do this now that it is in a box?
    Thank you for your support.
    Tom D.

You can use Migration Assistant to move all the stuff to the new Mac. Don't create any user accounts, just let Migration Assistant do that by itself. Just point MA to the attached drive.
I'm not sure what you mean by keeping personal files on the old drive.
They will remain there after the migration, but the documents will be copied to the new computer.
If you want to set up the Home folders to to the external, then I can't help. There is no way to use Migration assistant to set up the users, but not transfer data. It can just transfer Applications, though. Sometimes, I think it is better to reinstall those from scratch, too.
The only way I could see doing that would be to just transfer applications, set up  all new accounts, then use the Users & Groups System Prefs to set the Home folder to the external. Again, I don't know how to do this properly.

  • Question About User Accounts and Applications!

I just want to know how the user accounts work. I want to free up extra space on my macbook pro and want to know if the application install twice once into my account and once in the guest account?
    Thanks
    Darien

No, applications go in the Applications folder at the root of your drive, not in the user folder. User folders only store your data (documents, photos, music, settings files, etc).

  • I want to consolidate all my songs bought under 2-3 different user ids and passwords into one so I can move them into folders and organize my music.  How?   and I do not have any of the old id's or passwords.

I have an older iPod one of the first touch screens.  I bought music under more than one apple id and password.  I got a Macbook last October and I just upgraded my old 3G phone to the new iPhone 5 (16 GB).  All my music is on these devices but I cannot organize it. I tried to move songs into folders on my laptop but they would not go into the folder.  I clicked on them and moved them by holding down the mouse.  I think it is because they are from different accounts.  Or am I moving them incorrectly?  I have already created most of the folders like for Christmas music and workout.  I just want to be able to manage all this.
I am technologically challenged so if you explain something you cannot skip a step.  I am not even sure I picked the correct operating system below.

  • Reinstalling OSX while keeping user and applications

    Hi there,
The system perl version is a very old version that is non-standard with 10.6.8 and there a couple other anomalies that are non-standard.   is there an easy way to reinstall OSX and keep my user data and applications?  If so, how can I complete this task?
    Cheers

  • Saved logons (user ids & password) are not filling out logons

I have user ids and passwords saved but when I navigate to the site for which the user id and password are saved, the logon fields are no longer being filled.
These are valid logons which worked under older versions of Firefox.
I've looked for any settings I may have missed and have found nothing different between 4.0 and 3.6

Ok, this seems to be a long and convoluted path to do absolutely nothing.
    You submit the form.
You run a servlet that gets the parameters correctly (good), creates a SimpleBean (good) and then sets this into request attribute space under the names "user" and "pass" - (why?)
You then forward to the jsp: submit.jsp.
Submit.jsp creates a new SimpleBean, and attempts to populate it with <jsp:setProperty>. You then call the issueData method on it.
Your complaint: Rows are being created in the database which have empty string values instead of the parameters you have passed.
So, why are the values blank? Where do you think these values should be coming from?
Looking at SimpleBean we find one mistake - you have mis-named your get/set methods.
To properly follow java beans standards, you should use camel-case for your methods.
Rather than getuserName() the method should be getUserName(). getpassword() should be getPassword() etc etc.
The method getUserName() defines a property "userName" for the bean.
Once that is fixed, lets go to submit.jsp. The <jsp:setProperty> statement will try and set all properties of the bean from the request parameters.
There are no request parameters "userName" or "password" so those values don't get set in the bean, therefore it uses their default value of empty string - "".
There ARE request parameters called "user" and "pass" but because they aren't properties of the bean, they get ignored.
As a result, the values are empty string, and that is exactly what gets inserted into the database.
    Ways to fix this
1 - rename your parameters on your form to be "userName" and "password" to match the bean. That way the <jsp:setProperty> tag will populate them properly.
    or
2 - Call issueData() method from your servlet after you have created the SimpleBean. Better in my opinion as you then don't have any scriptlet code on a JSP page.

    Regards,

In transaction SU01 in the change mode, in personalization tab page, select the row personalization for license administration by double clicking it. The edit personalization data dialog box appears.
If you can get the user license information to create new user id in transaction SU01 then try License Administration Workbench - Transaction SLAW or LICENSE_ADMIN
    Hope it helps.
