Helix: give up hope or get a replacement?

I'm looking for a bit of advice from Helix owners. I bought this computer to be a serious business tool. I need it to work consistently and without glitches. I started out enthusiastic, but now I'm completely disappointed. Did I get a lemon, or is the design and execution of the entire line a disaster? In other words, should I just give up and get something else (hopefully being able to get my money back... ha), or should I try to get a replacement from Lenovo?
Annoying problems I can live with include the power button (hard to press); End/Insert key switcheroo (default status is opposite to what key label suggests); the stylus shutting off the digitizer when it's stored (meaning I can't use another stylus if the Lenovo one is in place); and the poor calibration (even with the new Wacom driver). I've found work-arounds for all of these problems (but that in itself is annoying).
What's pushed me over the edge is two huge issues: (1) the constant locking up of the touch screen when I'm using OneNote to take notes; I thought I had a fix for that based on a clean install and using the Wacom drivers, but that didn't last. (2) the inability to power an external SSD reliably. These seem to be unfixable problems, and they're deal-breakers. I'm not using this thing in settings where re-booting every few minutes is an option!
So what do you think folks? Do I have the worst luck, or are these problems that lots of people are having (meaning there are deeper design issues)? I've read every Helix-related post in the forums and I know that there are at least some people who have most of my problems -- but are we the only ones?

Hi,
I've had issues using OneNote too. I think there is a work around. If you start OneNote with the stylus in the holder, and you scroll with your thumb and then touch the stylus to the screen and then suddenly your thumb starts scribbling, and this happens consistantly everytime, your Helix itself is probably fine. The work around is to start OneNote with the stylus out of the holder. If you do that, you shouldn't have any problems.
If the thumb scribbling doesn't happen consistantly every time you start OneNote with the stylus in the holder (sometimes you can start OneNote with the stylus in the holder, and everything appears to be fine, but then messes up after some extended notetaking), then odds are you need the motherboard/digital screen replaced (I originally had inconsistant issues, but after having the screen/board replaced I'm in the first category, and the the work around described above works consistantly).
Also, I'm now using windows 8 instead of windows 8.1. When I had the inconsistant issues I was using Windows 8.1.
Bottom line, OneNote and Helix are incompatible, but it should work fine, as long as you start it with the stylus removed. If it doesn't its probably a hardware issue.

  • How do I get a replacement for a broken phone when I did not have insurance on it?

So my phone apparently got some dust and dirt in it. Tried to clean it out with a qtip and rubbing alcohol, but to no avail. It was literally sitting on my desk still doing things like buttons were pushed. There is nothing to be done about it, it's probably beyond repair with how messed up it is.
Anyways is there anyway to get a replacement for it? I was able to activate an old phone to use for now(hoping they don't hit me for charges because I did that)
But they don't even make the phone that I was using anymore, so is there any hope to get a replacement for the time being? I can't upgrade til February anyways when my contract runs out. Sitting here unsure what to do. I can't go around with a 5 year old phone. It is not going to work for me besides for phone calls/text.
I know with the insurance you can pay $50 to get a replacement but what are the chances they will help me if I didn't have insurance. Asking here first in case someone knows anything plus I'm sure support line isn't open.

I had a Samsung Intensity 3 which is no longer offered. Buttons were sticking and it was dialing and doing functions that I didn't even touch at the time. It as possessed it seemed like. Thus me losing my mind and it "breaking" I've since had to activate my old Intensity 2 just to get by because you guys want too much for a replacement. And that would only be for 6 months til I decide what to do on my contract.
Currently trying to find another phone from a friend who may have upgraded, because I can't take using a 4 year old phone.

  • Why can't I get a replacement keyboard key from Apple?

    Rant version
I was delivered a new 15 inch Macbook Pro with Retina screen with a broken 'V' key (literally, just the black plastic panel has a small broken clasp). I was unable to get a genius bar appointment anywhere within London Zone 1-2, Regent St, Stratford and Covent Garden all just tell me there are no appointments available. I called the Apple store in Stratford City to see if they could order a new 'V' key to the store so I could pick it up and click it on. They suggested I call Apple customer services as they wouldn't be able to help me unless I booked a Genius bar appointment, and obviously they had none. I was informed that I would have to send the entire machine away for at least 5 working days and then wait for a replacement to be shipped out. This is a total P.I.T.A as I have already started important projects on this machine.
I managed to book a Genuis Bar appointment in Bromley (30 minutes drive from my house) and called to see if it would be possible for them to order the part in and fit it on the day, during my appointment. They said I would have to come in, just to show them the machine, and then they could order the part using my serial number. I asked why I couldn't just give them my serial number and come in when the part was delivered. They said that the telephone operator at the store could not make any sort of contact with the genius bar, regardless of the fact they are in the same building.
I'd like to point out that everyone I have spoken to have been extremely nice, and understood my frustration, they just haven't been able to do anything that goes outside of their very limited protocol.I find it unacceptable that a company as powerful as Apple, are unable to post a keyboard key to a customer.
As a computer enthusiast, this is the easiest and most simple problem I have ever had with a machine. It has also been the most common-sense defying process I have ever had the misfortune of being a part of. If it were up to me I would just pay the £3 for a replacement online, but Apple have changed the positions of the clasps from the unibody model by about a few microns, and I don't feel like waiting until someone decides to scrap a new RMBP.
I don't mind if Apple don't want me to do the repair myself, that I may need to go through the enigmatic ritual of the genius bar to get this done (heaven forbid anyone but a Genius click the 'V' key on). I don't even mind if it takes a couple of weeks for the part to get there, I just want a replacement key, stuck on this laptop, without wiping the entire machine or sending it away for a week.
    Short version:
If anyone knows where I can get a replacement 'v' key for the new 15inch Retina Macbook Pro then I'll love you forever.

Yes it is sad but true I think. I EZprint to do my pano's and they turn out excellent. Give them a try.

  • I am going to get a replacement for my iphone 5C, for data connection issues. Can I get an 5S, instead of antother 5C as a replacement?

Hello, I have been having issues with my iPhone 5C for about a month now. I have unlimited everything, including data, & so randomly, starting about 2 weeks ago, my data basically does not work for any apps, besides like iMessage & Safari. So like if I have full LTE signal, I can try to open the Instagram app, and it will tell me "no internet connection", & it tells me that with ANY app, besides iMessage & Safari. Which is super frustrating, especially when I try to use like Maps or something & it jut does not load, & tells me that "there is not an internet connection", so I have to use apps & stuff only on wifi, in order for them to work. I went to the Sprint store, and had them try and update the data profile, reset data network, soft reset, etc (they basically did everything that I did), & they could NOT figure out what was wrong with my phone. So, they looked into my warranty information, and told me to take my phone to the Apple Store, and just get a replacement & that it would cost me only $50, since it is still covered under warranty. I am not up for an upgrade until April of 2016, & as far as I know, when it comes to replacements, Apple will either give me a new/refurbished iPhone 5C as a replacement. I don't really mind having to pay a little extra if I have to, in order to get a 5S , & I also don't care if the 5S would be either new or refurbished. So, my question is, could I maybe get a 5S as a replacement, instead of another 5C?

  • Will I get a replacement for dust under the screen?...

    Hey everyone!
I've had an iPhone since the 3G came out and I've never had any problems with dust. My 3G got replaced by 02 insurance about 5 months ago and I got a new 3GS 16GB. Since then I noticed the odd little bit of dust appearing under the screen. Most of the time I couldn't see it so I didn't really care but now I've noticed a few larger pieces and they're really annoying.
I understand that I should get a 12 month warranty with this and surely it's not meant to happen so I'd expect a replacement. I've searched around and I seem to get mixed answers. The problem is that I'm currently working in Cologne and there are only 3 Apple Stores in Germany (I can't believe it!) and the nearest one is still over 100 miles away.
What do you recommend? Would Apple do anything like post one (I doubt it?) or am I going to just have to wait until I'm near Frankfurt (or even back in London) and book an appointment there. Even then... what are my chances of getting a replacement?
Thanks in advance everyone! Much appreciated

I doubt they will give you a replacement. I know here in the States you can take your iphone to an Apple store and they can replace the screen and charge you $200 for that. But I find it hard to believe they would replace the screen for free just because there are dust particles under the glass. That's just my opinion.

  • My Blackberry 9810 is creating a hell lot of problems, I need to get it replaced but no one is helping me out

    Hi
Well guys I just bought a new Blackberry 9810 on April 23rd 2012 from Jalandhar(Punjab) and on the very first date i faced a problem. It was so that I couldnt hear the call coming and if at all my attention was towrds my phone and i happened to picked it I couldnt hear the caller's voice and neither could he hear mine. I took out my battery and restarted the phone to rectify it. It happened about three to four days the very first day. Next morning I went to vendor, who told me to get the software updated from service centre. I did as told, went to service centre and got the software uploaded the very second day of my purchase. For nearly three four days everything was fine with my handset. As i had to travel out of station for wedding in family, i left my city Jalandhar on 4th May 2012. It was on 5th May 2012 i faced the same problem and during my ten days stay there I was completely bugged up as everyday I had to go through the same turmoil about 7 to 8 times a day. I was being mocked by my frens and relatives that " you have wasted Rs. 27000" on this wrong purchase. I was really taken a back as i m freelance writer, so i lost much of my business due to my phone being swithced off. I spoke to the vendor from Delhi he told me you come back i ill speak to service centre authority and will get ur handset changed. When I was back I visited the service centre and made him speak to my vendor too. He returned my battery and back cover of handset so i understood they wont change the handet. I insisted them to replace it but all they could say the company will replace it if need be. So i kept quiet, i got my handset back after three weeks from the service centre with a hope that it will be well in shape, but to my dismay the very next day i faced the problem again. In all this chaos i noticed that it is only when i put the memory card i face this problem so i formated my card and tried again but problem persisted than i took memory card out from my phone and it worked well for a week's time. After which i bought a new memory card thinking that my last memory card might have been infected with virus but the problem started agin. I again went to vendor he told me to go to service centre and tell the person to change the handset or IME number, I did the same. But again when I got my handet back neither was it replaced nor the IME number was changed and on top of it the problem still persited and also its hanging a lot. I am in an imbroglio and literally repenting over this purchase. Also i have to listen to constant rebuking of my parents. I seriously want to get it replaced. Can anyone tell me how?

Well first off you should demand that the vendor who sold it to you stand up and do what is right and exchange the unit for a new working one!

  • Yes, I'm griping. Why can't I get a replacement box on a Monday?

So, our STB has been fritzing in and out for the last few weeks. It's been somewhat tolerable with occasional resets. I called for service 2 weeks ago, and they said they fixed the box, but no such luck. For the last week I've been out of town and it's been completely out which has been an issue for my family at home. I get home late yesterday and call this morning, yes it's a Sunday, please be aware that aside from the wait time (again Sunday) the customer service rep was great and, this time, quickly assessed that we need a new STB. The soonest we can get one, however, is Tuesday. I do know I'm griping, but it just seems like when you offer a 24 hour service, in 2014, you should be able to get service at least on a Monday, if not on a Sunday. The downside for Verizon and upside for us is that this prolonged outage is driving all the rest of my family (including grandma who was the real hold out) to get very comfortable with getting programming from Apple TV and I'm hopeful that means I can cut my bill significantly soon. It just feels like we pay an awful lot of money for having to wait 2-3 days to get a replacement box.

You can go by a Verizon store and do an exchange.
Otherwise, short of sending out a truck just to give you a box, they don't have a way to ship until Monday which means you won't get it until Tuesday.
Can't say I know of any service that you can order on Sunday and have it shipped to arrive to you on Monday.
    Quite cost prohibitive.
And not to be snarky, but why didn't your family call to get it replaced while you were out of town?

  • Any hope of getting 64 bit twain plug in for Windows 64 bit Photoshop

Just what the title sez: any hope of getting 64 bit twain plug in for Windows 64 bit Photoshop? Frustrating to upgrade and have to do a work around to use your scanner. Will Adobe release this?

    Chris,
I have a CanoScan 8800F plus CS5, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed. When I scan four slides in a holder, the 32-bit TWAIN driver/plugin gives me four images of one slide each. The 64-bit WIA driver/plugin gives me one image of the slide holder, with the four slides in it. Is this a limitation of the WIA technique in general or the particular WIA driver for my CanoScan?
    Best regards,
    Antero

  • Where can I get a replacement plastic screen for mac

I scratched my screen, how can I get a replacement? it is the black and aluminium, the plastic front is magnetic so seems that it could be replaced.

Just so you know, I believe the front display uses glass, not plastic, from what I've read in these Forums.
    Hope this helps

  • How to get the replace iphone in Malaysia or Vietnam?

I got wifi problem with iphone 4s. After trying all methods to fix it, I totally give up and now, I want to a replace iphone. How could I get a replace iPhone in Malaysia or Vietnam?

Warranty is valid only in country of original purchase. You will
have to return the iPhone to that country for repair/replacement,
meaning you will have to bring it there yourself or ship it to
a friend or relative in that country who will bring it in and send
back to you - all shipping and insurance costs are your
responsibility. Apple does not accept international shipments for
repair nor does Apple ship out of the country after repair/replacement.

  • How do I get a replacement for a bad hard drive from Apple?

I just replaced a Fujitsu hard drive in my iBook G3 because the S.M.A.R.T. status read as a fatal hardware error. The drive is under 3 years old which should be under warranty. But Fujitsu says that I have to go through Apple to get a replacement since it's an OEM drive. Does anyone know how I can do this with Apple or should I just bug fujitsu until they give in? Has anyone else had this happen?

I believe you're out of luck.
The time to ask for a replacement is when you have a drive that isn't working. Apple isn't going to replace a drive. Their warranty is for one year. They may have gone to bat for you if you hadn't already replaced the drive.
Fujitsu is under no obligation to reimburse you for a Seagate drive. If you had approached them when your drive went out, you may have had a claim. Since you replaced it on your own, they see no liability.
If you want to recover something, you may have to resort to the legal system, which may or may not result in a successful outcome.

  • My Apple iphone 5 is less than a year old, meaning it's still under the 12 month warranty. The touchscreen has stopped working and there are lines across my screen. Can I get it replaced for free by booking an appointment in store?

The rest of my phone is still perfectly operational. I can sync it to my Mac, I can still see my phone screen, meaning I can still see texts and calls coming through, the power button works, I can see my apps and my background, and the circle button at the bottom still works. It's just the touchscreen that isn't working. I can't slide across to answer calls or slide across to turn the phone off. As my phone is still under the 12 month warranty, will they replace my phone in store by booking an appointment at the Genius bar?

I was taken through some diagnostics over the telephone with an Apple advisor, who asked me to restore the software, back my phone up, etc, which I have done. He couldn't rectify the problem so advised me to take it in. I am booked in this evening to see an Apple advisor in store. I don't know of anything that I have done for this to happen! It was in my pocket on holiday in Portugal and was ok one minute, I took it out of my pocket and the vertical lines were on my phone and the touchscreen had stopped working! I hope I can get it replaced.

  • My White Samsung Fascinate has issues, can I get it replaced for a different phone?

Okay, I have the White Samsung Fascinate. I bought it from Best Buy back in April, and since then i've had nothing but random problems with it. I've never tried getting it replaced before, but recently it has stopped vibrating altogether, even when in vibrate mode. I factory reset the phone and everything and it still will not work. If I take it to the Verizon Store and they cannot fix the problem can they give me a different phone? I really do not want another Fascinate that will just probably end up giving me more problems in a few months. I also heard that Verizon does not offer replacements for the White Samsung Fascinate, since it was a Best Buy exclusive, and that they will offer you something else. Is that true?

Since you did not by the device from a Retail Verizon Store and has had it over 14 Days the answer would most likely be a no, they will replace it with a referbished Fascinate if you got the insurance plan, other than that it would depend on the rep and manager to do something diffrent but I would not expect a diffrent phone...
Also you may qualify for the early upgrade but this will still mean you have to buy the devicce at contract price and renew contract, but this is only if you qualify and they do not have to offer this as a solution..
    Good Luck..

  • If you lose your phone and you get a replacement . does you imei number change? or do they keep it the same as your old one?

if you lose your phone and you get a replacement . does you imei number change? or do they keep it the same as your old one?

    Hi
Every handset has a unique series of identifiers, one of which is the IMEI number, so if you exchanged the handset (for example if it was not working & you were still under warranty) your new handset would have a new IMEI number.
What Apple do though is if you formally exchange your handset (again, under warranty etc) then they record the change on their system, but also give you a sticker which is meant to attach to the original box. That way, if you come to sell the handset, you have a proper record of why the IMEI number on the handset is different from the IMEI number on the box.

  • How bad does my iPod touch battery have to be to get a replacement battery?

My iPod battery seems to be not holding charge very well at all. I was thinking about making an appointment to get a new battery at the Apple store. But just how badly functioning does my battery have to be to get the replacement? I'm still under warranty.
Also, will they just replace my battery, or the whole iPod? If they only replace my battery will my data be saved?

Apple generally replaces these type of items.. even if its a battery issue.  They use to be more lenient about replacing the product, however due to everyone taking advantage of it, now they test it first to see if what you are saying adds up.  My advice is, you should take it there and have them test the battery and if it is really big noticable difference from a good battery charge they will replace the whole product.
As far as data... you need to backup the ipod onto your computer before you go there! or you WILL lose all data!
Also, if a battery does have poor performance within under a year; your probably not charging it right and or have the screen brightness on to high along with wifi always turned on and blue tooth!
    Hope this helps Lauren!
