  • HELP!  Unknown Error (-50) when accessing Music Store

When I try to access Music Store I get the following error message:
"We could not complete your Music Store request. An unknown error occured (-50). There was an error in the music store. Please try again later."
I have had this for several days. I have re-installed the software and the latest version of i-tunes. My firewall is set to permit i-tunes. Can anyone help?

hmmmm. the rules for that are different depending on whether you're trying to get to music or videos.
if it's related to music, see:
iTunes for Windows: Error (-50) or (403) occurs when accessing the iTunes Music Store

  • Help - An unknown error occurred (-50)

For the last few weeks I have been getting 'An unknown error occurred (-50)' when trying to download new purchases or updates via iTunes, can anyone help?
I've tried every solution I have encountered all with no success.  Off the top of my head I've checked the firewall and antivirus, tried deleting partial downloads in the iTunes folder, uninstalled the one download accelerator I had, tried a winsock reset, uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and still no luck.  This is driving me nuts, I can download everything fine on our iPad or iPhones and then sync these to our laptop but virtually any file over 20Mb seems to fail with the above error when downloading on the laptop.  I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 x64.
    Any help much appreciated.

No matter what I tried I could not get this resolved.  The latest iTunes update seems to have addressed the issue, downloaded over 200 updates and several HD series without a glitch so far.

  • HELP! "Unknown Error 2" When launcing Aperture

Today I tried to launch Aperture and as soon as the Aperture window is displayed with the "Licensed To:" information, a pop up is displayed with:
    "Unknown Error"
    "2"
    with only one option: "Quit"
I have been using this update v1.5.1 since it was released without any problems prior to today.
Any help getting Aperture running again would be greatly appreciated.
I have ALL the latest software updates up to date.
    Thanks

    Hi Gary,
Note that if you are using the Trial version you should not update to 1.5.1.
I ran Disc Utility after that and repaired
permissions (which took more than half an hour to
complete - there where a lot of permissions to
    repair!!).
That could be part of the answer, if you can boot from another drive, and use disk utility to REPAIR the first disk. You can also use the Mac OS X DVD/CD or the Disks that came with your G5 to do this as well, just insert, and reboot holding the C key.
BTW how full is your HD? I recommend keeping it less than 80%.
I think it may be time to do a complete reinstall of
the G5 because it has been giving me start up
problems the last couple of months; locking on the
grey start up screen with the fans running wide.
When that happens, it usually takes at least three
attempts at restart, before the restart actually
works. If you know of a way to diagnose what is
causing the startup problems, I am all ears.....
    eyes.
Well could be a lot of things, bad RAM, Flakey motherboard/CPU, or Disk corruption -see above.
Check out Apples support for G5 here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/powermac/
    and:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300552
It very comprehensive, and don't forget to do a search if you don't see anything helpful.
Before Taking it in I would:
1a Check for bad RAM using the free progs 'rember' GUI or 'memtest' terminal, you can get them here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/2450
1 Repair Disk as above, then repair permissions again.
    2 Reset PRAM.
3 Pull the power cord wait 5-10 min then reboot.
4 Try starting in safemode. Hold the shift key during boot.
5 see the note about the Power Supply issue with dual core G5s here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/powermac/powersupply/repairextheension/
6 Search the G5 support pages, see above.
7 Reinstall from your system disks, ** Back up important data first.
NB: The best Program for diagnosing/fixing HD problems is Disk Warrior from Alsoft, you have to buy it, but it is a downloadable purchase, see:
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
my gut tells me you have a HD corruption, and Disk Warrior is better than Disk Utility (try first as its free) for fixing these types of problems.
Anyway let us know what happens ........

  • Help!  Unknown Error -50 -- Can't Download Music

Does anybody know what "unknown error -50" is? I tried to buy some music and it stalls, then gives me the pop-up window saying:
"There was a problem downloading ___. An unknown error occurred (-50). Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."
I am active, and it doesn't work. Thanks.
Happened on my PowerBook G4, using iTunes 7.01.

    PToe,
Thanks. I had exactly the same problem. Restarting iTunes as you perscribed took care of things.
I have not had this problem on my iMac (where I have been running iTunes 7.0.1 for over a week and have bought lots of music since upgrading), but the "unknown error -50" happened on my PowerBook after upgrading to iTunes 7.0.1 from 6.something two days ago. The only differences between the two systems are (a) the PowerBook is connected wirelessly to my router (the iMac is wired to the router), and (b) I am running 10.3.9 on the Powerbook vs. 10.4.8 on the iMac.
It would be nice to know why this error happened.

There has been very heavy traffic on the store due to the release of iTunes plus. The error should go away once traffic dies down.

  • Please help: An unknown error occurred (1418)

I have several iPods and have used them basically trouble-free for years. Last night though, my 1st Generation ipod, after coming home after being away for a month, "died" after synching to my mac-mini. I went through the 5 Rs, but have no success in retsoring the Nano even to the original settings. The restore process via iTunes fails, giving the error message 1418. The unit has not been dropped or abused, but the only thing that has changed is an update to itunes and quick time on the mac mini. Any help is appreciated, as it appears my warranty expired while on vacation....

try this... it will give you steps to help you

urgh... just noticed my previous post said i have mountain lion... i meant that i have snow leopard.  no idea why i messed that up!
anyway, i just tried reinstalling snow leopard from the usb key that came with the computer. Then, I installed software updates until it told me there were no more updates. After that, I tried the app store again, and it still is giving me the unknown error. really irked by that. may have to take it back to the apple store yet again, to see if i can figure out why the app store won't work.
