HELP!!! CONTACTS DISAPPEARED

HELP!!! After doing upgrade via itunes, all contacts have disappeared... i have tried to restore backup... doesnt bring back the address book... its my wifes Iphone and i did upgrade on my pc... would this make a diff? also the backup was via my outlook and email addy? could this be the prob? the synch info under INFO in itunes shows my email addy... i dont have mobileme.. i only have email addresses through my local ISP. HELP!!!

The fact that you did the upgrade on your PC is certainly related to the problem. If your wife had been syncing regularly on a different PC she should be able to restore from backup on the one she had been using and recover her contacts. Also, when you did the upgrade a new backup of her phone would have been created on your PC. You should be able to restore from that backup as long as you didn't sync after restoring.
Also, if she had been syncing regularly with an contact app on her computer (as the iPhone is intended to be used) all of the contacts would still be in that application and they would be restored on a sync.
So, if you haven't synced since the upgrade connect the phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose "Restore from backup". If that doesn't recover contacts repeat the process on her computer.

HELP: contacts disappeared from iphone 4/address book on computer

my old iphone 4 had a problem so I got a new one.. the old one was backed up just about a week ago. I tried to sync my new phone today and everything synced except my contacts - not only that but my contacts have disappeared from my address book/itunes.
How could everything else have backed up just fine but not my contacts... are they recoverable?

Argh! Why doesn't Apple warn you about known iOS-to-OS conflicts before you install a new one? I too am now (unhappily) running iOS 6 on my iPhone 3GS, and still Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro. If I upgrade my MacBook OS to Lion or Mt Lion, I will have some software that won't run anymore, & will have to buy upgrades -- the reason I've held off. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet.
The info about the iPhone Mail-etc sync setting is also useful. I do have iCloud for the phone though not for the Mac.
Here's the problem now:
In trying to solve my issue of new contact info not syncing in either direction, I went into iTunes on the Mac, the Info tab, and checked the sync box for Address Book, even though there was a warning my contacts might be duplicated because of iCloud backups. This was a phone/Mac sync, not phone/iCloud. (I alternate them so I'm covered.) I have 4200+ contacts. Guess what? Most of 'em duplicated on the iPhone. The 2 questions now are:
- is there a more efficient way to remove the duplicates from the iPhone than doing select-edit-scroll down-delete for every one?
- do I dare do any backing up to iCloud with these duplicates on the phone, or will I end up with quadruplicates?

My suggestion:
Reset your device: Settings>>General>>Reset>>Reset All Ajustments.
It will restore to all company ajustments, but it will not delete anything at all.
After that, do not Sign In Facebook, I see many people got problems after Sign In Facebook.
In my device, I do not fill last names, I just fill names in "First Name".
Another question: Are you sync your contacts with Outlook or iCloud? I have suggested another one to do not sync with Outlook and, in iTunes:
1.In resume, mark "Backup in iCloud"
2. open Information and unmark the "Sync Contacts With". roll down the page and, in "Advance" field, unmark everything.
3.Sync your device again.
It probably will help you.

HELP...anyone...please...contacts disappear.

All of my contacts disappear from my contact list. And when I tried to add a new contacts, it will duplicate into 5 to 6. It only allows me to store one name....if I store more, it will overwrite the earlier contact. Either way, it will still duplicates. Strangely, when someone from my previous contacts list SMS me....it will show the sender's name, together with the message history. However, if I were to look for his name ......say under D letter, it's just not there. I wonder if anyone out there experienced the same way I did. When I reboot the phone, upon starting up....it displays a message "uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException" and the only options given was to press ok. Could this be the problem?
My bb is curve 8900. As this has cost me so much problem in my work and business, I wld appreciate any feedback or solutions from anyone of you guys. Many thanks.

i have ever experienced same kind of problem...
maybe because i did a mistake when i entered the email setup, so i re-setup my email address (and the network was down)...i shouldn't have to verify contacts from my email setup...
then i downgraded the OS with 5.0.0.681 and it works as usual..
but, i lost all of my contacts....
if you often backup your data, it will help to get your contacts again..

HELP! Contacts disappeared when deleting mobile me account.

On my iPhone 4S I just deleted my mobile me account from the email accounts because I don't use it for emails. Then, all my most recent contacts disappeared. I tried synching thinking they would come back from my computer and no luck. I tried adding the account back and my phone says that my contacts, emails, etc from my mobile me account will be automatically moved to iCloud. Help please.

Unless you were also syncing your MobileMe online contacts with a supported address book app on your computer as designed and intended, syncing your iPhone with iTunes accomplishes nothing especially if you don't have the supported address book app on your computer selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences to sync contacts.
If your MobileMe contacts were automatically moved to iCloud, create your iCloud account on your iPhone.

Hi Prince,
OK, so you did turn on PhotoStream on your device. On iCloud.com there is no setting for PhotoStream - it is not needed. PhotoStream only get "turned on" on a device or a computer (in the computer settings - not on the website).
So, once it is turned on, you take a picture, and it may take a few minutes before you see it in the PhotoStream on your phone. If you take a couple of pics and they don't show up, say within a half an hour, then you might want to do a reset on your phone (press the Home and Power buttons at the same time, and hold them down until the silver Apple appears - you won't lose anything by doing this....) Once it comes back up, you could try a couple more pics, or check the PhotoStream to see if the ones you took previously are there.
Not sure about the option at the bottom of the Photo App - I think it is a permanent item (like Places - I don't use Places for my photos, but it is there all the same.
I agree with you that it is a great backup for your photos - especially if you don't regularly sync to a computer. PhotoStream will keep up to 1000 of your photos, so it's good insurance against losing them. Just as a major user of the camera on my iPhone, I would recommend that you do back up to your computer as well. Videos are not saved in PhotoStream, so those would be lost if anything ever happened to your phone and you had not backed up to a computer....
But don't give up on PhotoStream either - it's not only great for backing up those last 1000 photos, it is also great for sharing between devices (say, if you have an iPad).
So, give it another try, and if you have any questions, post back!

You don't.
You synced your iPhone with iTunes for the first time after how long?
And this didn't happen by syncing only. This means you transferred the backup for another iPhone or you restored the iPhone with iTunes. It is not possible for everything to be lost by syncing alone. All iTunes content on your iPhone can be lost but not any photos in the Camera Roll and the same for contacts unless you synced contacts with an empty address book application on your computer.

Why have my contacts disappeared and been replaced with some Facebook friend names?

A few days ago, all of my contacts disappeared and were replaced by the names of SOME of my Facebook friends. None of these have any telephone contact information, it's all email addresses associated with those Facebook friends. For instance, my husband's name, emails and phone numbers were all deleted from my contacts - help!

Look under iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is there a backup listed for her phone? First thing done when you sync is an iPhone backup. If you have not synced since screwing her phone up, restoring from that backup(if it exists) should restore her content. Do not sync after you restore her phone, eject it. So, first disable auto-sync on that same device pane in iTunes before you proceed. If this doesn't work, is your sister bigger than you? If so, run 'cause her data is gone .

I have a .mac account, and I was able to sync to my idisk and get an old version of my address book- but still, I've lost a bit (I've now set up the .mac sync to go automatically, once weekly, to keep it more up to date should this happen again).
Yup- I'd definitely back up the old address book somewhere, and not just on the computer you're syncing to. That was so weird. The contacts were there when I started out to the airport last night, and sitting, waiting, watching "Monk" on the iPhone- I got a call. When I went to call my husband, all the contacts just vanished. Numbers were there, in 'favorites', but no names, info- same with 'recents'. And all my contact info- pics, emails, addresses- gone.
When I went to sync later (and, I thought it synced together?), everything was gone. . . from the computer, and the iPhone.

Contacts Disappeared on GE 31591GE1 Phone

We have been using GE 31591GE1 phone successfully for almost 10 months. Suddenly, couple of days ago, all contacts disappeared from the phone unit. Phone is still capable to make and receive calls, but list of contacts is empty and fails to synchronize with our Skype account. Phone have all latest updates, was not powered out or disconnected from internet or altered in any other way.
We have about 50 contacts in our list and about 5-6 in blocked list, total is less than 60 contacts. All contacts are visible and synchronized in Skype installed on Windows and Android systems, but completely missing on the phone unit. It looks like phone is trying to retrieve contacts from Skype, but fails somewhere during connection with Skype database (no error message, just an empty contact list).
We have followed recommended on the forum instructions to reboot the unit, re-login, wait for an hour etc - nothing helps. Still an empty list of contacts.
Seems to me like software/database glitch. Several similar complaints on this forum for last week - might be a general issue.
Please investigate or post a fix.

Contacts disappeared--how to get them back from iCloud?

All of my contacts disappeared from my iPhone 4S--doesn't seem to be in response to a particular thing I did, they were just gone one day. I logged on to iCloud from my computer, and they are still listed there, but I couldn't see a way to get them back onto my phone. Can someone help?

Please note you must have had previously turned sync on for your contacts in order for them to be on the icloud server.

Sign in with your apple id and password and see if they are there.
if they are not there they are lost. however if you had a previous apple device like an iPhone or ipad etc. they may be on those devices.

Why do my contacts disappear (using iphone 4s)?

Why do my contacts keep disappearing! I use ICloud to save my contacts but I have Verizon wireless backup. Could these two interfere with each other and make random contacts disappear??
The only thing in common on the contacts that I have noticed is that I have not used them recently.

This happens because when you sync them with iCloud they are moved from your phone to the iCloud server. If you turn off iCloud you are disconnecting your device from the server so it can no longer access your contacts (or other iCloud data).
If you no longer want to sync your contacts with iCloud, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts off and choose Keep on My iPhone. That will keep a copy of your contact on your phone.

The phone strarted "blinking" all of a sudden, and when it returned to normal all contacts were missing.

I would try a reboot and pray that it helped. But if you didn't back the phone up to itunes or icloud or if you don't already store your contacts in gmail, then they are probably gone forever.
