Help creating robust titles in FCP

Greetings,
I am a recient FCP convert. For the first time I tried to create some titles, but had issue with the 'Title Generator' that is native. I am used to a screen style title generator, that lets you create multiple texts in one graphic, vary the font and font size within a graphic, and add shadows and strokes, etc.
Premiere's titler, and Avid's stock titler (or Marquis for that matter) are prime examples, very robust.
I was just wondering if I wanted to title like that in FCP what do I need? Am I missing something, because the 'Title Generator' doesn't seem like it would be enough for the kinds of people using FCP.

Ok, here's my next question, when I build titles, I need to see the image behind the text so I know how to block my graphics, create a build, etc. Also I like to generate elements to go with my text, like boxes, bubbles, and lines, etc. Premeire, and Avid will both show the background frame, and allow me to generate all kinds of transparent non-text options right in the frame. Sure, I could use Photoshop or AE, but frankly that's not easy, conveninet, or allows me to easily block my text effectively.
Is there a way for me to pipe the current background frame into LiveType, or Motion, becuase then I could build my graphics without problem.

How do you create clear titles in FCP?

We have these custom titles we created in illustrator and imported as the head titles in a Video but when its rendered and played back the resolution is terrible. Has anyone encountered this and is there a solution?

One of the main reasons for poor titles is using too fine a font. Bold ones always look better.
Standard definition video is only around 720 pixels wide, so if you have created your titles in an app using a canvas of 1000 pixels or more wide, there is a good chance that your letters will end up too fine and will either look blurred or shimmer badly.
Exactly what size are your original titles and how were they created etc.?
Could you provide a screenshot of the originals?

I believe that you are referring to a "lower third?"
Is that what you wish to do?
If it is, and you don't know how to do that, it might be prudent to get a basic book on motion graphics and get some background on how these things are done.

Can someone direct me to a location for help using the Titler in Premiere Pro? I am having great difficulty stumbling and fumbling my way trying to learn this features. Example: when I start a new title, the text doesn't wrap within the Save Area but continues off the side of the Titler.

Making titles in FCP

WHat is the deal with the title tool in FCP ? Is it just me or does it always look horrible? Any suggestions?

By 1:1 I am refering to uncompressed footage. For example, the Animation codec. DV images are compressed to 1/5 of footage. When you import from AE to a DV timeline you are compressing your footage to 20% of its original data. That's why DV text looks like CR@! If you could import or create text that is uncompressed it looks great. Of course, you can't output to DV tape but for DVD, film or DV50 etc...< </div>
You either adapt and come into the fold or you expend terrible energies fighting FCP. Your choice. But you can trust us, FCP will never work like your Avid, whatever that was.
Uncompressed titles rendered in any QT codec are easily imported from any other application. They will be rendered to the format settings of your sequence timeline. Period. If you're using DV or encoding to MPEG2, your beautiful After Effects work is going to be turned to various kinds of mush. You compensate for the inevitable mush with experience and understanding of the differences between progressive and interlaced targeted outputs. Titles in FCP are just as fabulous as any other system once we learned how to use the tools.
We've been dealing with "my titles look terrible" posts like yours for several years around here. The titling tools in FCP can produce superb results and these questions always point to two answers: a) Operator error or, b) Failure to view rendered titles on an appropriate output device instead of the computer monitor.
Anyways, is there anyone who knows how to import text and CGI into FCP at 1:1? Perhaps a capture card that does it? Kona? I am new to FCP and am interested in creating a system equal to Avid Xpress Pro with Mojo. < </div>
Why would you think you can capture files at a better resolution than importing them? Is that how your Avid (whatever that is) used to work?
You can get upset about sarcasm if you want to but we're a great bunch of folks. You don't need to take anything I or anyone else says personally unless you feel compelled to do so and we can't help you with that. We've tried to answer your questions and we invite you to search the forum archives for similar threads. There are hundreds of similar threads about titles and there are hundreds more from disaffected Avid and Media 100 users who have the same troubles you are having adapting to the new platform.

So far is everything clear to me. But what I want to do now
is that after a user clicks on title, next happens:
the current swf unloads
the flash sends data to asp (ID of an article and ID of an
author, which movie to load next).
How do create a title/button?I know how to make a title to
behave like a link (just add the

document. But this,..... I just don't know how to do that.

2m, you are right. I should tell you about my concept. It's
all on the paper yet, because this is how I work - first I write
down everything on paper, study it and the next step in trying to
make it work on computer.
I have a main swf, I call it system.swf. System.swf receives
the info about the swfs, it must be loaded from html tag
<object><param>. The ID of the movies is send from
flash to asp and then via <object>back to flash. Does that
make sense? Is there a better way for that?
So, the system.swf is loaded for the whole time - let's say
it on level1. On level 2 are then loaded other swfs.It depends
which content the user wants to see.
About the article part:
first the user sees the list of last articles (title, date
and short description). When he/she clicks on the title, all the
action happens:
flash sends the data which article the user wants to read to
asp, asp searches in data base for the requested article and
creates xml, where are title, date and the whole content of the
article.
At the same time asp also sends via <object>tag in html
the id of the swf that must be loaded and the id of the author of
the article, so the swf, where the pictures of the all authors are,
will know what picute must load (this is the second swf that is
loaded on the article part - it's created like a gallery; the
author of the active article is bigger and if the user wants to
read the last article of other author, he/she just closes the
picture and then the images are moving in a slider way and when
he/she clicks on an image, it get larger and the last artcle of
this author is loaded).
And I wonder how can I make this all to happen: when the user
clicks on a title, all the var action happens?
If you have better idea how to create this, please, advice.

Creating a title for RSS feeds

I have a podcast and have made a website for it using iWeb. I went to iTunes to submit my podcast, but later found out that my RSS feed for my podcast has no title in the blue section at the top of the screen.
How do I create a title for an RSS feed (it should be the same whether or not it's a blog or a podcast) using iWeb '08? By title, I mean the words in the blue bar at the top of any RSS feed. Help needed with titles in Elements 7.0 - urgent!

I believe I have quite a simple task, but I can simply not find it in my Premiere Elements 7.0 options.
I want a title to pop in, character, by character.
Not fade in, not fly in, not come from below, nor from above. Simply appear, as if I would use a typewriter. Tack, tack, tack.
FadeInByCharacters in the Text Animation menu is the closest, but it's still a fade.
I am looking for it since hours. There must be a way!
Your help would be greatly greatly appreciated!!

There are several ways to do what you want.
First, there are several titler programs, that have 100's of animation Presets built into them. ProDAD's Heroglyph is one.
However, you can do exactly what you want with Titler, albeit with several steps. The trick is to create the "title" as one Title for each letter. Place thes onto progressively higher Video Tracks, and space them to create the pacing that you need.
If you have a very long Title, it might be worth investing in Heroglyph, or similar.

Does anyone know of any quick and easy-to-understand tutorials for After Effect CS4 that can help me create a title introduction for my videos?
I want an entertaining introduction with nice animations. I'm new to AE, so the tutorial would have to be "dumbed down."

If you have a more specific sense of what you want to do, then ask or do a search using the After Effects Community Help search. For example here's a search for graffiti tutorials that pulls up a great tutorial on the Video Copilot website.

Creating chapter menus on FCP & sending to my project on iDVD

Hi,
I have tried to create chapter markers on FCP for my project and then made a quicktime movie which i then sent to idvd.
Problem is, i do not get what i expect on idvd which is a submenu with the chapters. I just get the project.
I have read up on FCP for chapter mrks and also idvd but obviosly somethings going wrong.

Assuming you are using FCP 3.0.2 or later, is this how you exported your QT movie from FCP > iDvd? (if you selected something else other than what is shown below, then it can be problematic for iDvd).

How would I create "bullet point" titles in Premiere CS6, without creating individual titles?

I know you could do it by creating a different title for each line and then manipulating them on the time line but seems like there should be an easier way to do that. Could someone help me out please? Thanks.

It might be possible to achieve that effect without creating individual titles, however creating a stack of titles is the easiest and most strait forward way.
Create a finished screen 1st, with all the elements that will appear by the end of a title sequence. Click the "new title based on current title" button to create a copy, then delete the last title element on the page, then repeat until you are just left with the 1st element that you want to appear on screen.
Overlay them on your timeline in reverse order of creation, and you have your effect.
That should be the easiest way.

I know what your'e going through, Gary.   OSX 10.6.7 is an absolute disaster.   Since I upgraded, I've had problems in FCP, Logic, Garageband, even issue dealing with peripheral hardware like external monitors.
Before 10.6.7 my system was running fine.
I've brought this up with Apple repeatedly.   They smile and shrug.   They've been helpful resolving the issues, but none of them has been easy to solve. I have spent days, dealing back and forth with tech support, sending logs, etc., before solutions have been found.
I wish I could give you an answer to your question.   My only guess is that Apple has totally dropped the ball on this one.   In the future they should provide a disclaimer when they offer an upgrade. Something like:   "Caution: all of your software may not function after this upgrade. But go ahead, you'll feel cool that your OS is the latest thing."
As someone who has been with Apple for close to 25 years, I'm disturbed by what appears to be an increasing sloppiness in their work.   This is especially disturbing when you depend upon their system to make your living.

Help Creating A Link

Ok I need help creating links with my banner. It's a take off
of Macromedia's tutorial banner for the Coffee Shop.
What it is, is a banner. You have the "Front page" of the
banner. And it has a next button. The User clicks the next button
and it displays the next "page" of the banner. I WANT the user to
then click THAT page (or somewhere) on that "page" to be directed
to a whole new page IN the current browser window. Can ANYONE
please tell me how to change the script below so it will do that?

To accomplish this I would build the link as part of the value. So if Yes the Yes itself would be a link, if No is simply text as today.
It would look something like this:

FROM ....One problem with this approach is when you export the report (as a CSV for example). There are a few ways to handle this, one is to simply duplicate the column with clear text yes and no and set this column to be included on export and only visible on export. The other column, with the link, set it to no export.
The other option is to add another condition on the REQUEST value.

Hi everyone
I've just launched my first portfolio site and I really need some help creating a lightbox to show my work.

I think I'm struggling with online tutorials as I've already designed the layout of my work (and maybe i've not used the best coding either??)
What i want to happen is the user clicks on the thumbnail image and in a pop-up screen another full size image is displayed.
I've read all the tutorials etc and downloads for it, but i just don't know where to start.
I've read a lot about JQuery, is this something I need to download??

Help creating a search

I created a document management section for our departments site (CF9). I'm asking for help creating a new part of the search, and will list all of the parts I am looking for help with, that way if you can only contribute to one part, it will get me that much closer to what I need. I already have a Title only search working, and added a second search that does both Title and Keywords. I am using cfindex and simply created a new collection for the Keywords and searched the two collections. Our staff will mostly search only Titles but wanted the option to search all content.
The next colletion will be for the content of the documents. The site will contain .doc and .docx files. All files are maintained in the same folder. There is a MS SQL database table that indicates if the file is in an archive status or active. The same table lists the document number and its extension.
So, what I want to do is query the database to see what files I want the index to scan. I need to dump the collection each night just after midnight and re-do the index. There will be documents added and archived on a regular basis and I don't want archived documents remaining in the collection.
Almost every document will contain common words such as the, and... so if a user searched for "the correct temperature" I don't want to retrieve all of the documents. How can I exclude common words?

I deleted the Verity and created the Solr collections. By the way, how do you pronounce that, Solar?
I still need help indexing the documents.
As I mentioned, there is a single folder of .doc or .docx files, but I only want to index the active ones. To determine the active ones I will do a simple db query first.
Is this possible? If not I will need to redo the way files are archived and move them to a different folder.
