[HELP]don't allow access folder in web root, but allow dowload files in it?

Hi all!
I got a big problem, at least ... with me .. uhm ... I have a web application, which I allow user upload file on, I save that file in a folder below the web root, I mean ... www.mywebapp/files/uploadFile.zip <--- something like that...
I don't want user to able to access files folder, but ... I allow who has already login as admin of my web app can download that files :( ...
how can I do that ... plz help me :(

Put the "files" folder under the WEB-INF directory.
Nothing can access the WEB-INF directory directly.
Then write a servlet that will get requests, and send back the file.
Alternatively you can use web.xml security constraints, to define who can/can't access the files.

Of course. I use WAMP server. Some people prefer XAMPP or MAMP. Whichever local testing server you use, be sure to put your site folder inside the local server's default web directory. On Wamp that is www. XAMPP & MAMP, use htdocs.

Just cahnge the e-mail account asssociated with the account. There was no need to start another account.
You cannot delete and account, nor would you want to. All purchases made with an account will always be tied to that account.

I used to have Firefox 18.0.1. Now have Firefox 19.0.2. I use a website where Silverlight 4 is required. Silverlight 5 is incompatible with the website. Firefox 18 allowed use of Silverlight 4. Firefox 19 has disabled the plugin as outdated. How can I force acceptance of Silverlight 4?

Hello. I have a new iPod Nano and a new Philips compact stereo which can rip CDs directly to mp3 players. When I follow the procedure, all goes well, but when I try to replay the tracks on the iPod, they don't appear in any of the folders. Then, when I connect the iPod to my computer, the files appear and I can play them through the computer itself. I contacted Apple and they say that only music directly from iTunes is compatible. I need to know either how to convert the files to be compatible with iTunes or to get the iPod to accept these files as ripped. I hope I have used the correct terminology to describe my problem but if not, let me know and I'll try to clarify what's happening.
The Apple support person I spoke with told me to check this forum for help. She figured someone out there has been able to do this successfully. Thanks for any assistance.

You can play standard MP3s on your Nano... but you MUST use iTunes to MANAGE your music. You don't have to use any special "iTunes compatible" format. What it sounds like you did was simply drag the music files directly to your Nano... or ripped them directly to your Nano using it as an external drive. The software in the Nano will not allow you to do that. When you connect it to your computer, your computer sees it just as an external drive and will let you play the files just as you would on any external drive. You should copy the files to your iTunes library... or just let iTunes manage your music for you. You will then be able to sync your music to your Nano. Basically, you have to use iTunes to put your music on your Nano.

Disable folder creation in root but not in subfolders

Hello everybody, we have a shared network drive and i have already set the structure of the root folders in C:\. I want to restrict users to create a new folder or move a file in the root directory C:\ but to be able to create, move etc in the subfolders
of c:\
How is that possible?

You can configure options like those from within the Advanced security settings options.
Go into the properties of C:\, Security tab and then click Advanced. By default permissions are configured for "This folder, subfolders and files", but within here you can add permissions for subsets of those.
Add a new permission for your required group with the restricted permissions you require for C:\ and set it to "This folder only". Then add another permission for the same group but this time for the less restricted permissions you want them to have elsewhere,
and set that to "Subfolders and files only".
They'll then have the higher permissions for subfolders, while allowing you to restrict what they can do in the root of c:\ (with the obvious exception of any folders which are set not to inherit their permissions from the root of C:\).

HELP! Moved website from one mac to another but lost some files...

I recently purchase an iMac (my wife already owns a MacBook)... I had created a website using iWeb and transferred the DOMAIN files to my new computer... I worked on the website for several hours last night, published it to a folder and everything looks fine.. HOWEVER< this morning I tried to open iWeb and some problems are occuring...
iWeb opens and starts to pull up my website to work on but ALL of the necessary files are reportedly missing... the interesting thing is that all of the files are actually on the desktop in the Site folder.. hmmm... I copied the domain file to Aplpication Support/iWeb/ - was this not correct?
I am hoping that this is an easy fix.. maybe I just need to have the domain file in the same folder as the files it is looking for...
any thoughts?

You can keep the domain file anywhere you like as long as it is in its own folder.
If its not in the default location -Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb- all you do is double click the domain file to launch it in iWeb.
Try quitting iWeb, delete the preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.

"Preview in Firefox" for pdf web pages but not for file links ?

I like the preview pdf in Firefox feature but I seem to be having a bit of a problem with it.
In options>applications I have the pdf entry set to preview in Firefox and when I click a link to pdf webpages they load in Firefox just fine.
The problem seems to be with download links to pdf files. When I click a link to a pdf file the only options are to save the file, open with my pdf viewer (Foxit Reader) or other. Preview with Firefox is not an option any more.
I've been trying everything to get that option back.
I know I have seen it there before but I've no idea how it disappeared.
Any suggestions?

The build-in PDF Viewer only works for files that are send as application/pdf and not for other MIME types.<br />
So it won't work for links that open a download dialog and you would need an extension to open such a file as application/pdf.

Yes, there are definitely security implications. It works ok with IE and FF if you are opening local folders. It won't work if you're trying to access files/folders from remote servers - we tried to open folders from other servers on our domains and it wouldn't do it.
You can, as you say, edit settings to get around this (and, yes please, I'd like to see what settings you're changing). You can also "log in" to the remote system using login/password parameters in the url - but, as you quickly realise, this is even less secure!
In some instances, you can get around it by changing the url slightly:
file://localhost\c:/etc
This sometimes tricks the browser into thinking you're accessing files from the local machine. Another alternative, which we couldn't use, was to map a drive on your machine - again, this only worked sometimes.
I could not find a solution that worked in all situations. Fortunately, for us, we got our users to login to our networks remotely using F5 and this allowed access to files.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Sharing - Remote Management - Allow Access = Broken

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I was unable to connect to my new Mountain Lion remote desktops.
The upshot is that the Sharing -> Remote Management -> Allow Access settings are not AD/LDAP aware and it only works with local users now.
I had to turn off Remote Management and use Screen Sharing, where Allow Access is fully aware of local and non-local accounts.

Your other option is to "Allow All Users" but I didn't want to do that.

I use the Vine Server for reduced color support. In my case it is my Mom's iMac 300 miles away and she has a slow DSL connection.
My experience with Mac OS X VNC server and client are that they work together very well, however, they do not play as nice with 3rd party clients and servers.
Since you are using Windows and by definition a 3rd party client RealVNC, I would suggest you install Vine Server. You can even configure it so it listens on port 5901 so it does not conflict with the Mac OS X VNC server.

I've finally gotten ColdFusion 7 up and running with Jrun 4
on a Mac running 10.4. Now I have a silly problem. Going to
http://localhost:8080 doesn't show
a web site. Neither does
http://localhost/. I know I'm
supposed to define the web root, but how do you do that on a mac?
I'm using the built-in server (not Apache) and therefore there
doesn't seem to be a "conf" directory to go into to set the
virtuals up. Also, on a mac, where do I find the hosts file???

manipulate them? Can I set up multiple sites this way?
