Help: error 609

anyone can help?
I used to have a script like:
tell application "Jar Launcher"
open file "file"
end tell
The "file" is a java application.
This script run well in Tiger, but turn out error 609 in Snow Leopard.
To check the java script, I run "java file" in terminal, it works. This means that the apple script is not correct.
Can anyone help me out?

I'm still running Mac OS X 10.5.8 “Leopard”, not yet “Snow Leopard”. Nevertheless, I downloaded [Arachnophilia 5.4|http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia> to my desktop just to test Jar Launcher.
First, I checked that I could open the file “Arachnophilia.jar” just by double clicking on its icon. No problem (Jar Launcher is the default application to open the file).
Then I tried your script… and got an error alert:
*tell application "Jar Launcher"*
*open file "Macintosh HD:Users:pierre:Desktop:Arachnophilia.jar"*
*end tell*
--> AppleScript Error — Jar Launcher got an error: Connection is invalid.
Then I found that I could easily open the application with the following statement :
*tell application "Finder" to open file "Macintosh HD:Users:pierre:Desktop:Arachnophilia.jar"*
I hope this can help.

  • Can anyone help a newbie with "An unknown error (-609)" message?

I just bought my first iPod a week ago and so far, I haven't had any problems with iTunes. But today, I can't get any artwork for CD's I'm importing because of "An unknown error (-609)." I checked, and my iTunes is up to date. Is there anything I can do about this or is this the kind of problem that will come and go on its own?

No. I bought it online. Still can't restore. Pls help me. Thanks!

  • Unknown Error (-609)

I keep getting this Unknown Error (-609) since upgrading to the new version of itunes. It pops up eveytime i click download album covers. Can anyone help me fix it?

  • Itunes error (-609) when attempting to download artwork

I'm receiving the following message when attempting to download album artwork:
Artwork for XXXXXX could not be found. An unknown error occurred (-609)
MY first thought was that it was due to the artwork being unavailable, but i deleted the artwork for an album which i had previously downloaded. When i tried to re-download the artword, same problem. I can download track information, though.
This has occurred since updating to itunes 8.0.1.11
using 64 bit Vista. Never had this problem before...

I installed V8.2.0.23 created a new library. Added one album. Clicked on Get Album Artwork. Got unknown error (-609). Spent hours trauling the web to find a solution. Logging into iTunes store and signing out and restarting iTunes and the PC did NOT fix the problem.
Then I installed V6.2.1.6 only to find I still get the same problem.
Interestingly, if I run the diagnostics from the Help menu it tells me Internet Connection Failed. (which is bollox - because I have been browsing the web for hours to try and find a solution) But I wonder if it is linked.
I can't beleive how naff iTunes is.
Does anyone have a solution that actually works?

  • Can't get album artwork - error 609

I'm using MBP and iTunes 10.3.1.
When importing from a CD, I got the track details but not the album artwork. On requesting through menu Advanced I get "Unknown error -609".
However,  the same CD on Windows+RealPlayer can get all album and track info.
Any ideas to get the album artwork on MBP+iTunes?
    Thanks

Btw, I desabled the firewall and it still can't get the artwork.
The CD is "Queen - A Night At The Opera".

I followed the instructions to delete everything in the order listed and search for all and after installing I get the same message about the mobile device can't install.  If I ignore or abort it finishes install and then comes up with the iTunes helper error 7 windows error 193.  I have tried multiple times I have nothing left on the computer for Apple at all what else can I do?

    Good day iamthgr81,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It seems like iTunes was not launching and can't be reinstalled after updating to the latest version. Completely removing iTunes and its components is a good troubleshooting step, and if you still receive an "error 7," try these tips next:
Make sure that you're logged in to your computer as an administrator.
If you're not sure if you have an administrator account, read Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator? You can also refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Install the latest Microsoft Windows updates.
To download the latest updates, visit the Microsoft Windows Update website. iTunes for Windows requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, with the latest Service Pack installed. If you can’t install the updates, refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
    Disable conflicting software.
Some background processes can cause issues that prevent applications like iTunes from installing.
If you installed security software and are having issues installing iTunes for Windows, you might need to disable or uninstall security software to resolve the issues.
Visit the iTunes download page. Click Download Now to download the iTunes installer. When prompted, click Save (instead of Run).
Right click on iTunesSetup or iTunes64Setup (the installer you downloaded in step 3).
If you have Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8: Choose "Run as administrator."
If you have Windows XP: Choose Open.
If you've previously installed iTunes, the installer will prompt you to repair the software.
After the repair is complete, restart your computer and try launching iTunes.

    All the best,

  • AppleScript error -609 in Automator workflow

I created an AppleScript on one computer and incorporated it in an Automator workflow. The script works perfectly well stand-alone or as part of the workflow.
Then I copied both files to a headless computer via VNC. I adjusted the workflow to look at the new location of the script, and the script itself to look at the new location of the file it's processing. Now, on that second computer, the script works perfectly well by itself, but I get AppleScript error -609 Connection Is Invalid if it's run from the workflow.
For testing purposes I reduced the script to its simplest expression:
    tell application "Finder"
    end tell
and it's still generating the error.
Strangely, from the workflow the full script does what's it's supposed to, but the workflow stops because of the error. The error appears even if this script is alone in the workflow. Does anybody know what it means?

That error means that the script wasn't able to communicate with the targeted application properly, which can happen if the application crashes while the script is running. If that error doesn't cause any problems, it's appearance can be suppressed:
    try
    (your code)
    on error number -609
    end try
This construct will not execute any code on or after the line which produces the error.
