Help! I am trying to learn actionscripting in Flash Professional CS6

I've recently purchased the Adobe Press Classroom in a Book for Adobe Flash Professional CS6. I am stuck in Chapter 6: Creating Interactive Navigation. I input coding EXACTLY as the book told me too and the program is coming up with errors and the animation won't stop at the first screen to allow the navigation to take place. What am I doing wrong?

Look at the Compiler Errors panel. It shows you four identical errors. You have misspelled "gotoAndPlay".
Good luck with your studies!

So i attempted downloading Flash Professional Cs6 trial, but my laptop died minutes before it finished, i know it can run on my laptop i already have photoshop cs6. I need to know what i can do about this so it doesen't stop me from purchasing the real thing. It won't let me pause it or cancel. I've tried uninstalling the download assisant, but it comes back with the error message "FlashPro_12_LS16.dmg error -4960" and the program is still "extracting". I need help on how to cancel or erase this failed download, thank you

You can reset the download process by completing solution 1 in Troubleshoot Adobe Download Assistant - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-download-assistant.html#main_Solutio n_1.  You can then try the download again.
If you continue to face download diffculties then you can initiate a direct download by following the directions listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369.

Actually, what Flash Pro is, is a profound disappointment. I've been using Flash since Macromedia days and have generally put up with the huge change in focus that's happened between AS2 and AS3. I was irked by the sudden need to have to declare classes for even the simplest functions but lived with it because there was nothing much else out there. It wasn't until very recently that the truth finally dawned on me; Flash is a bloody mess.
Adobe have completely betrayed the design community and after long consideration I've come to the conclusion that Apple were entirely right to prevent Flash appearing on iOS devices. I don't want to have to write reams of code to make a simple ad, it's a waste of time and money and my clients really don't care whether their code is elegant or not. All that matters is pixels on screen.
Flash has completely lost its way. Instead of being a ground-breaking design tool it's just another OOPL with a half-baked IDE. What's the point of Flash? It's a product which is now conceptually flawed, a scripting language with a few graphic bolt-ons, a tool which actually reduces productivity instead of enhancing it.
The name Flash Pro is misleading, it should be called ActionScript Pro. Flash has become a programming tool only, and in the process thrown up so many barriers to productivity that it's become all but unusable in the purpose for which it was originally conceived.
It seems to me that Adobe lack the imagination to produce ground-breaking products any more. All they deliver are engineering solutions with incremental improvements and that's only a good enough solution whilst there's nothing else out there. Quite evidently the ground is shifting and as a product Flash is clinging on to the edge of a cliff. Flash is exposed.
In the 21st century it seems extraordinary that a product marketing itself as a design tool requires designers to start a creative project by deciding which packages to import. This is useful to me why? Does my client give a damn? Why doesn't the application work that out for itself? It's like asking a driver to service their own engine every time they take the car out. Sure, a knowledge of code is beneficial but starting from first principles every time you start a project? It's just not good enough.
I'll keep using Flash for now, but as soon as something new gains sufficient critical mass - Corona, Kwik 2, anything that actually gives designers productivity tools - I'm out of here.

  • Learning Interactions in Flash Professional CS4

I have installed the Learning Interactions extension in Flash Professional CS4, but it does not operate correctly. First, it tells me to edit a given interaction in Windows>Panels>Clip Parameters, which as far as I can tell no longer exists.
When I double click right on the clip to edit it, not all fields are editable. and ActionScript 3.0 is having fits with these interactions, giving me a list of Warnings in the Output tab.
I realize these are old interactions, are they still usable? They seem better behaved in an ActionScript 2.0 document, but I still can't edit them. And I cant find newer versions of the extension.
Any input or assistance would be appreciated. I am a returning Flash user, having not used the app in a few years.
    Doug

    Hi,
Pls let me know if you managed to solve this problem with the learning interactions in CS4. I am running the demo of CS5 (and doubt very much that I will upgrade after this and issues with the help) and have downloaded and installed the learning interactions, but cant seem to get them to work. As you described, I cant find Windows>Panels etc and even though I opened a AS2 file I still get loads of AS errors when trying to run the interactions.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

  • Trying to understand capabilities of Flash Professional and Flash Builder 4

I recently purchased the CS5 Master Collection and am struggling to understand the uses for Flash Professional and Flash Builder 4.  I was inspired by Jay Pavlina's Super Mario Crossover game and wish to make similar applications.
However, I am confused about whether I should be using Flash Professional or Flash Builder 4 or both?  I purchased the two books that Jay Pavlina recommended "ActionScript 3.0 Animation Making Things Move!" and "Essential ActionScript 3.0".  I've been trying to find resources that will help me understand exactly the purpose of each of these applications.
It appears to me that ActionScript 3.0 is used in both?  So which one should I be using?  Or both?  Or is one more design oriented and the other more development oriented?  Can one make flash game like Jay's using just one or the other?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought about it a bit more. I think you should take my advice with a grain of salt. I am still standing behind what I said but there are some circumstances that we are not in control of.
If your task is to be the beginning and the end of your code - don't bother with Flash IDE. BUT, if you plan to monetize on your Flash/ActionScript skills, you may not have choice but be familiar with as many environments as possible.
Here is my personal experiense that illustrates this point.
I always prayed to gods, chanted to mandalas and made offerings to spirits to avoid a single thing - not ever deal with custom Flash components. Rightly or wrongly I perceive them as one of the lamest Macromedia creations. I am not talking about SWCs but about this thing that you create with preview and all other crap. Above all, it did not (and still doesn't) make much sense to me from functionality standpoint.
Anyway, as, I guess, a karmic retribution, I was dealt this card. I got involved in a project(s) where I was not told that my main task would be to, you are right, write and reverse engineer Flash custom components. If I did not know Flash IDE I would be totally lost. Custom components are so counter-intuitive that only people without programming background can view them as a convenience. Well, it is a convenience if they are written correctly.
The point is that, if you want to make a career out of it, you should gradually get involved with Flash IDE for now. The truth is that there are tons of agencies out there that do not have resources to hire high level developers and they employ "drag n' drop, cut n' paste" individuals. And this is a real market segment. Even well seasoned development houses have to succumb to this reality and cater to such entities.
It is your choice, of course, but I thought it wouldn't be fare to you to be very fascist about pushing my one-sided views.

  • I need help migrating an existing project from Flash Professional CS6 to Flash Builder 4.6.

I have followed tutorials...instructions on the web...all I get are unsolvable errors.
I have a large Air application that compiles fine and works in Flash. However I would like to take advantage of the as3xls api which does not work in Flash Professional (for no reason in particular the internet just tells me it won't work because Flash Professional cannot access some part of the Flex framework).
So I want to make my project work in Flash Builder. However, when I attempt to reference my document class, flash builder gives me an error telling me the package path com.andrewbefus.ModelMapper no longer works. It does this no matter how I select the folder to reference my document class. If I change the path to nothing...Flash Builder is happy with my document class and unhappy with every other class I have made.
Then I decided to make a new Flash Builder ActionScript file and simply replace the ModelMapper.as document class that Flash Builder created with my completed ModelMapper.as. After some messing around with paths and directories, I got Flash Builder to be happy with my program structure but then all hell broke loose on almost every single Class outside the Flash Builder framework. One by one I attempted to tell Flash Builder where to go to get my components, fl.motion classes, and my custom classes but Flash Builder refused to recognise them unless I reference the folder containing the files, and then proceeded to tell me that the project path of every single class needed to be changed. I imagine if I spend the rest of my day mucking around with this something else will come up.
I went looking for a tutorial explaining how to migrate a Flash Professional project over to Flash Builder. The closest thing I could come up with told me to just select my fla. file by going Project<Flash Professional<Create project using Fla file... which worked great except refused to compile my project as a desktop application for no sane reason - giving no option to select my project when I attempted to create a new Run Configuration.
    One frustration after another....

I've also followed all the instructions here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html
    Still no luck...

  • Creating a prepackaged AIR app | Learn Flash Professional CS6 | Adobe TV

Discover how to deploy AIR applications from within Flash Professional CS6 as "captive runtimes." Captive runtime allows developers to bundle the AIR framework into an AIR application, creating a self-contained entity that eliminates third-party dependency.
    http://adobe.ly/JXWmgc

Hi I am a little confused.
I wan't to export an AIR "Application with runtime embedded" I can do this fine for a MAC file from my mac I can just check the "Application with runtime embedded" check box and I get a file that I don't have to embed. I would like to do the same for a PC I have flash installed on windows 7 parallels. When I check the "Application with runtime embedded" check box and export I get a file structure instead of an app I can open. The mac version I can just double click and it opens without having to install the app.
Is it then true that you can not have an AIR Captive file file for the pc that you don't have to run through an installer process?
    Many thanks

  • Can anyone write a actionscript for flash project

    Hi All,
Can anyone write a Actionscript for my project.
I want to develop my project with the flash.
My project scenario is, I have total no of 60 (.swf) flash
movies and are about to take 4 to 5 minutes each, my aim is to
display 20 .swf files randomly at a time on the screen.
i.e., if we click on a button for the first time, it should
display a 20 flash movies on the screen and when we click for the
second time it should display other set of 20 flash movies it may
or may not repeat the previous ones. It means every person should
be displayed with a different set of flash movies, no two persons
can get the same set of movies. The movies should be randomly
    selected.
Could you please direct me to meet my scenario, could you
please write a script for my flash.
Thank you for your precious time.

    Ndippy,
Folks on here are pretty good about helping out others who
are trying to learn actionscript, or have trouble with
understanding concepts. They are less likely to volunteer to do an
entire project for you. I'd suggest trying to do it yourself, and
asking specific questions about the process. Both of your posts are
way to general to allow anyone to give advice that would be
worthwhile. You have said that you have 60 .swfs in your first
post. However, in your second, you said they were 60 quicktime
files. There are very different processes for each option there.
Are you planning to display 20 at once, or let people scroll
through them? What size are your clips and what size are you
    developing for?
Start small, like just trying to load one movie clip
randomly, and then work your way up. Experiment with changing the
positions, sizes, etc. When you run into trouble, ask a specific
question about what you are trying to do, and people will be happy
    to help.

I have a new iPhone 5S.  While trying to learn about it, I accidentally recorded a voice memo with no content.  I cannot now figure out how to get rid of it.  There is a banner across the top of my phone with this memo which I don't want.  I have deleted it from iTunes but cannot get it off the phone.  Help!

The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.

Did anyone see the post I made about LR 4?Just in case I will post again. I have LR4 I bought last August and just now I am trying to learn this >I have "Classroom in  a Book" for LR4 lots of problems . I have a IMAC version 10.9.3. I tried different Adobe sites. They will not give me the Time of day because they say they no longer support this program. Can anyone here tell me where I can get support for this LR$ that Adobe no longer recognizes. Thank you My name is Jerry S. MY e-mail is [email protected] and phone number is 563-344-7910.

Okay I will try. First I have lost pictures in catalogs and could not find again.I have tried reinstalling LR4 and when I do and reopen LR4 the same catalog appears in the panel and filmstrip and I have no idea how to get rid of that catalog and start over at square one like it was the frist time it was opened. That would be a big help and I think I start over and avoid the same problems.

  • Hi, I've just started as a fresher in sap fico and I'm upto the LSMW part and I'm wondering why I keep getting an error in Run batch step when I do everything else correct could you help?  Please help I'm really trying to learn it as fast as possible

Please help I'm really trying to learn it as fast as possible?  I've posted the file with all my screen shots going through the enitre process of me creating the LSMW file.

First, I will try to address the iPod issue: If youve tried EVERYTHING on the website, your only other option is probably to contact Apple, I recommend by phone, and informing them of the problem. You are covered by warranty and therefore they are liable to assist you. Try that and come back with a status update
Now I will address your attitude about it:Its absolutely understandable to be upset over something like this, especially with such an expensive product, but you are generalizing far to much. You may think Apple is being unproffesional by not warning potential buyers of the iPods common faults, but do you really think they would? they are out to sell these things, they arent going to point out the bad in their product. And not all iPods have problems, in fact only a fraction do. That gopes for the rest o Apples products as well. You are too hasty assuming all Apple products are junk, and one of many reasons as to why that is unfair of you is becuase you dont own any other Apple products.

  • HT4783 I'm trying to learn how to use Airdrop between my wife's Mac and mine. We both have it, but this article did not help us learn HOW to share files.  Yippeee that we can...but HOW?

My wife and I are trying to learn how to use Air Drop.  The "tutorial" showed us where it is.  It came up.  I saw hers (Mac).  She saw mine (Mac). But where to go after that is, apparently, in the cloud somewhere.  The description says we can share files...which is nice...but nothing tells us HOW to share those files.
Thanks for your help out there...
    Dennis

    1. Open a new Finder window or use one that's already open
    2. Click on Airdrop, press Shift+Command+R, or find "Airdrop" in the "Go" menu
    3. Drag your file to the icon of the person you want to send the file to (if you have mountain lion, you can use the share button).
    4. The other person has to click "save"
    5. The file will send and appear in the receiver's downloads folder
In Mountain Lion, a new feature was added: the share button. It's a button with a picture of a box and an arrow jumping out of it. Click on it and the third (and last) option is "Airdrop" and clicking on it will allow you to send files over Airdrop without opening it in Finder.

  • Trying to learn zsh completion. Help me achieve it?

    Hi,
I'm trying to learn to write completion functions for zsh, and started by writing one for unison, which looks in the profiles directory to tab-complete profiles. So far, I've got a _unison file containing the following:
    #compdef unison
    #typeset -A opt_args
    local profiles
    profiles=~/.unison
    _files -W ${profiles} -g '*.prf' && return 0
    return 1
    Which works relatively well:
    % unison <tab>
    default.prf documents.prf photographs.prf
Just for the fun of it really, I'd like to remove the .prf bit and just have it complete the basename. Any idea how I can achieve this?
    Thanks :-)

I don't think 'basename' is the right word.
    This works for bash:
for i in *.txt; do echo ${i%%.*}; done
Now you have to somehow add it to your workflow.

  • FAQ: How do I go about learning ActionScript 3.0?

Here are a few hand-picked resources for getting started with AS3  that hopefully will give new users confidence to try ActionScript and to  know that they are looking at some of the best resources for learning  it. These are all video tutorials.
Code Snippets and AS3 enhancements – Code snippets were introduced in Flash Pro CS5 and provide  pre-written code that you can apply as a way to get a lot of basic  functionality implemented without learning really any code. They are  also a great way to begin learning ActionScript 3.0 because they are  very small in most cases and reading them will quickly begin to shed  some light on the conventions that are used.
ActionScript 3.0 101 – Flash Downunder – In this one, Paul Burnett gives a nice long intro lesson covering a lot of the basics. He’s a really good instructor with a good pace.
Building an application – This is a quick lesson by Todd Perkins that gives a basic intro to some must-have concepts, including event listeners and stop() actions.
ActionScript 101 with Doug Winnie – This is Doug’s show on Adobe TV. There are many, many episodes that  go from the basic to more specific topics. Most of the episodes are 5-7  minutes long. A great free resource from a very good teacher with a  manageable pace. Note that the episodes are listed in reverse  chronological order (newest first) on the Adobe TV page.
In this set of tutorials, Ryan Hodson takes an interesting and interactive apporach to teaching AS3. This will get you typing ActionScript in Flash right away:
    Introduction to AS3

    Srami... welcome to the forum...
your question is MASSIVELY broad and depends on your requirements and delivery expectations.
    Basically... 'best' for what?
It's helpful if you provide some details for people to assist you.

hi guys, i am sharing some best books to learn AS.3.0 along with game development including box2d.
best books ever.....(over 7 large pdf books)

    Dave,
    > OK, so that sort of helps. I downloaded and installed it
    > but when I went to create components like I have in my
    > Flash 8.0 application I am writing, there are none
    available.
Those are the v2 UI Components, which means they're written
    in
ActionScript 2.0 and are therefore incompatible with AS3.
    Using that
special version of Flash, you may still publish in AS2 if you
    like (see
Publish Settings), in which case those Components will
    reappear.
    > Is this a watered down version so you can't do anything
    > with forms.
What you have is not a watered down version at all. Rather,
    it's a
souped up version of Flash 8, which is otherwise not capable
    of publishing
for Flash Player 9 (in other words, ActionScript 3.0). The
    title is a
mouthful, but Flash Professional 9 ActionScript 3.0 Preview
    is a *preview
release* of Flash 9, which gives every indication that the
    next full release
of Flash will support ActionScript 3.0, and presumably new
    AS3-based
    Components to match.
    > Does this force me to have to get Flex2? I hope not.
Of course not! ;) If you want to develop with AS3 now
    already, then
you'll have to do it with something that can compile Flash 9
    SWFs. Flex
Builder 2 is an IDE and costs money, but the compiler (Flex 2
    SDK) itself is
    freeware.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/sdk/
If you can wait for Flash 9, then that could be yet another
    choice --
presumably improved upon the preview release in your hands.
