  • Page setup and printing

    Hello all,
I am currently working on a visual presentation and have a question regarding the printing of my work.
The project is a 6 page booklet that conveys the tone and story points of a film that I'm working on. What I've done is created the 6 documents in photoshop (11in Wide, 8.5in Tall) and placed them into into InDesign. The InDesign page set up matches the dimensions of the psd file (11in Wide, 8.5in Tall). My bleeds are .5in all around. I don't have a great printer so what I want to do is save the document as a PDF and bring that PDF some place to have it professionally printed on a high grade printer. As I mentioned before my page set up dimensions are 11in wide and 8.5in tall, will I need to alter my page set up dimensions to fit the dimensions of the paper size I choose at the print? Also, are there any specific settings I should pay attention to when exporting the PDF so that the printing store doesn't run into any problems?
    Thanks so much.
    Rylenol

The page size would need to be over-sized at 11x17 and trimmed down in the case of a bleed.
This is one reason why I said to check with the printer. The printer may not need the file setup as spreads depending on how the booklet will be bound.
That and 1/2" bleed seems a bit much but then again it depends on the printer. The cover pages may need to be larger to accommodate for the binding.
Again check with the printer 1st in order to save yourself some time.

Color management help needed for adobe CS5 and Epson printer 1400-Prints coming out too dark with reddish cast and loss of detail
    System: Windows 7
    Adobe CS5
    Printer: Epson Stylus Photo 1400
Paper: Inkjet matte presentation paper with slight luster
Installed latest patch for Adobe CS5
    Epson driver up to date
After reading solutions online and trying them for my settings for 2 days I am still unable to print what I am seeing on my screen in Adobe CS5. I calibrated my monitor, but am not sure once calibration is saved if I somehow use this setting in Photoshop’s color management.
The files I am printing are photographs of dogs with lots of detail  I digitally painted with my Wacom tablet in Photoshop CS5 and then printed with Epson Stylus 1400 on inkjet paper 20lb with slight luster.
My Printed images lose a lot of the detail & come out way to dark with a reddish cast and loss of detail when I used these settings in the printing window:
Color Handling: Photoshop manages color, Color management -ICM, OFF no color adjustment.
When I change to these settings in printer window: Color Handling:  Printer manages color.  Color management- Color Controls, 1.8 Gamma and choose Epson Standard it prints lighter, but with reddish cast and very little detail and this is the best setting I have used so far.
Based on what I have read on line, I think the issue is mainly to do with what controls are set in the Photoshop Color Settings window and the Epson Printer preferences. I have screen images attached of these windows and would appreciate knowing what you recommend I enter for each choice.
Also I am confused as to what ICM color management system to use with this printer and CS5:
What is the best ICM to use with PS CS5 & the Epson 1400 printer? Should I use the same ICM for both?
Do I embed the ICM I choose into the new files I create?
Do I view all files in the CS5 workspace in this default ICM?
Do I set my monitor setting to the same ICM?
If new file opens in CS5 workspace and it has a different embedded profile than my workspace, do I convert it?
Do I set my printer, Monitor and PS CS5 color settings to the same ICM?
Is using the same ICM for all devices what is called a consistent workflow?
I appreciate any and all advice that can be sent my way on this complicated issue. Thank you in advance for your time and kind help.

It may be possible to figure out by watching a Dr.Brown video on the subject of color printing. Adobe tv
    I hope this may help...............

  • Can't print: "Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document,

    Hello,
I have searched these forums but have not found a solution to my problem.
I recently purchased an IOGear USB Print Server (print server only, not USB device server). I was having issues installing and followed a Microsoft support document to try and resolve the issue. It had me remove some entries from the registry.
Hours later, I was able to get the printer installed and working, but I do not know if it was a result of the registry tweak. But now that it has been installed, I cannot get anything to print from Acrobat Reader (I have tried 7.0 and 8.1.1). I get the following error message:
"Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer."
Is there something I should check in the registry to make sure that it will work? I do know for sure that it was working when it was just the printer and drivers installed, it only happened after running the print server setup. I have already tried removing the printers and drivers from the system.
    Thanks,
    Braden

I have a problem similar to those posted here, with one difference. With my printers newly installed, regardless of which one is selected as the default, when I try to print from Adobe Reader I receive the error message we're talking about : "Before you can perform a print related task...."
    Here's the fun part.
If I click OK on the message, ALL MY PRINTERS GET DELETED and, I get the windows message that "Spooler subsystem app has encountered a problem and needs to close"! If instead of clicking OK I switch to Task Manager and end Adobe, I'm fine and can print from other programs.
I can "reset" the problem by deleting the files in C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers and C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86, restarting the machine, and deleting then reinstalling the printers (which show up again after the restart).
BUT, if I try to print from Adobe Reader again, I get the same cycle of problems.
I am running Windows Vista and Adobe Reader 8.1

    Hi,
I got the next error message for a pdf document: “Before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer"
    Info:
    - version: 10.1.3
    - Default printer: Epson SX110 Series
    - Document: Security properties: Printing allowed - all other security properties: not allowed
    - Same document without security, does print without any problems.
    thanks for quick solution

    Hi,
My printer is correctly installed. I can print other pdf documents without any problem (even the same document if the security settings are not set).
    best regards

  • How can I change the default page setup for printing messages in Apple Mac Version 4.6 (1085)

How can I change the default page setup for printing messages in Apple Mac Version 4.6 (1085)

As soon as I posted, Ifigured this one out on my own by going into user settings and changing the default there. Then I was able to delete the default @mac account. Thanks!

  • I changed my margins in page setup and now I cannot see page setup, a print preview, or print, what do I do?

I changed left and right margins to .5 thinking they were in inches and closed the page setup screen the next time I tried to print all I saw was a blank page or no page depending on zoom / shrink to fit ratio set. When I go to page setup all I get is a new window that is transparent in the text area and extends off the right side of the screen. I have to right click and select close to close it as I do not see the standard minimize, maximize, and close buttons. I do not want to reset defaults as I have changed many settings and do not remember all the settings I have changed. I do have an older copy of my firefox profile in a previous user profile of mine on this machine. Is there an easy way to reset the page setup settings?
    What do I do?
PS. I am using Firefox 29 on a XP Pro machine slated for upgrade to windows 7 Pro.

Sorry I have been away from this system forr a while. when I turned it on this morning and launched Firefox it upgraded me to version 31.0.
Attached are three Png files, one is what happens if I try to print to do a print preview. If I try to print a web page it prints the same thing.
The other file is what comes up when I click on page setup. It opens a very wide window that is a copy of the web page that was there when page setup was clicked on.
The Third is what happens to the above page setup window when I drag the window to the left.

  • Possible bug: After using page setup in print preview it clears the preview screen and locks up the window (no visible widgets). I have to close the window from the title bar and start the print over.

On any page, select "Print->Print Preview". Once in the preview window, use the menu to select "Print->Page Setup". In the setup dialog box, click on the "Margins & Header/Footer". Modify some headers and footers. Then click on OK.
The preview window will either be cleared or become unresponsive. The only way to proceed is to close the preview window using the Windows close button in the top right hand corner. I must then start my printing over.
I found that I can work around this by first changing the page setup BEFORE going to print preview. However, this looks like a bug and it should be investigated and fixed.

Both printers? Or just the HP Photosmart C3100 series printer?

  • Page Setup And Orientation Seems Crazy to do Such Simple Task !

i am evaluating crystal reports 2008 , i'm having created a custom paper size width = 8 inch and height = 6 inches using windows forms in printers and faxes . but crystal report changes my report to landscape ??? i want to print it in portrait.
I have observed that when the width is greater than height it automatically changes to landscape mode ? why this extra smartness when we don't need it and the problem goes critical when printing labels, version CRYSTAL REPORTS 9 has perfect page setup setting ?
can any 1 help me to work around this issue, would be thankfull

I suspect you've created a standard report and are "using it" as a label report.
Go to File | New | Mailing Label Report | choose the fields and once the datasource, tables, fields are chosen you can then choose TYPE and size of label (Avery labels sizes/types are provided) and set up the gaps between the labels, page margines, etc.

  • Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

    Greetings,
I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
It all really depends on your demographic audience.
Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.

  • CS3 page setup: in print dialog box???

I am confused about the page setup in CS3. Coming from Illustr. 10 if I started a drawing in landscape mode and wanted to change into portrait mode I had to change the document and page setup boxes. Now in CS3 there is only a document setup, the page setup is in the print dialog box. Can someone share some light on this?
    Thanks.
    Ulrich

I think the process is now as it always should have been. It was crazy always having to go to two different dialog boxes just to change one setting. The thinking here is that Illustrator is now smart enough to know to automatically adjust the Page Setup settings for you -- if you rotate the document from Landscape to Portrait for example, AI should be able to figure out on its own that you want it to print that was as well.
The main point here is that Page Setup options aren't needed much anymore -- most of the options are handled directly within Illustrator's Print dialog (and can hence be saved in Print Presets, etc).

  • Help needed in redoing networking and home entertainment

I realize that this is a site dedicated to all things Apple, but I am hoping I can't get some honest and impartial help on building the best home network and entertainment system.
I currently have an XP Media Center desktop computer in an office of my home where all of the network stuff is at and is connected via ethernet. I also have a Mac G4 MDD 1.0 that I am using in another room for Adobe Creative Suite to do my own promotional items and I have about a 50' Cat 6 cable running back to the router in the office. I also have a Vista laptop that is connected wirelessly but believe it is only a "g" network? I don't really use this a whole lot but take it out to job sites and such so there is information I need to send back and forth to my external drives hooked up via ethernet to my router. I am in the process of getting a new MacBook Pro as well.
I have a PS3 hooked up to my home entertainment center but unsure of how to make everything work the way that I want. Here is what I would like to be able to do. 1) Networking of all computers and external drives, 2) Operate my Mac G4 Wirelessly, 3) Addition of internal bluetooth to G4 so I can get a wireless keyboard and mouse, 4) Ability to play iTunes from external hard drives on home entertainment center, 3) Ability to stream media from internet and hard drives to HDTV in home entertainment center
I am looking to upgrade my router to dual band with either the Airport Extreme or the Netgear WNDR3700. I don't know which to get and have found about the same amount of pros and cons for each on the web. Any suggestions and why?
Do I need an Apple TV or a Netgear WNHDEB111 or other Digital Media Reciever???
What else would you recommend to accomplish my goals and why do you recommend the part and brand that you do.
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance I can get.

Hello, I will gladly assist you with these steps. Have you already set the printer up physically? Are the ink cartridges set in and the printer is ready, just waiting to be downloaded to the computer? If you still have the CD that came with the 8600 printer, all you have to do is place the CD in and click SETUP. This will guide you step by step to install.
Now the tricky part is how you want the 2 PC's connected. You can go USB (hardwire from printer to computer), Wireless (set the printer up on network and PC on network with NO cords attached, or you can go Ethernet (a cord going from the printer to the router).
Let me know how you are able to connect, and I can guide you through those steps.

  • Pages - Share and Print - Email document issue

I ran into an issue today on my iPad2 and wanted to see if it was just me or can anyone reproduce this error. If it turns out to be just me, someone help me undertand how to get around the issue. If it is more widespread, where do I report this so it can be resolved in an future release?
    Here is what happened.
I received a Word document via e-mail. When I opened it in e-mail and chose to "open with Pages" it worked fine. Imported into Pages sans the font (which I've come to expect). Then I edited the document (it was a quick survey I was taking) and then was ready to send it back to the person who sent it to me. I chose the tools icon, selected "Share and Print" then selected "Email Document" and then chose Word as the format. It converted it and attached the file in a blank e-mail ready for me to address and send.
Well, I wasn't ready to send just yet. So I clicked on "Cancel" and then "Save Draft" which it did successfully. Then I went into email, edited my "Draft" in my Drafts folder, addressed it, etc. and sent it on its merry way. Well, guess what? The file did not come through on the e-mail. Just my text.
I tried "copy and paste" of the file after saving as a draft and it only sent the "picture" of the file ICON and not the file itself. I tried multiple times saving it as a draft and then sending and it never worked.
If I send from within Pages right at the time after "Email Document" is selected, it works every time. It seems to only be when I save the email as a draft from within Pages that it will not send the attachment or something happens to the attachment. I did notice also, that if I edited any "text" from that draft and then saved the draft again, all my edited text wouldn't save either. So any "Draft" saved from Pages I couldn't edit regardless of any attempt.
Draft saving and editing within the email application works as expected.
NOTE: Just before submitting this discussion, I tried the above on my wife's iPad2 with the same results. Anything "saved as a draft" from Pages in e-mail, will not send the attachment. Anything sent directly from within Pages and not saving it as a draft, will send the attachment.
There are times I would like to save it as an attachement, should this work? Thanks everyone!
    Edward

I am only vaguely familiar with iWork.com. I know it is a cloud based way to share documents with others, but this is what the send to option does when you work with Pages, Numbers or Keynote on the iPad. I would assume that the function performs the same way in iWork.com. - but it is only an assumption.
"Send to" is the command that will let you send that file to your computer the next time you sync with iTunes. It is the way the iPad transfers the file to your computer - the iPad method of file sharing. You can sync files back and forth from iPad to computer with file sharing as long as the app on the iPad is compatible with a similar application on your computer. In your case iWorks apps on both the iPad and your Mac.
This article will explain it in great detail for you.

  • Programmatically Set Page Setup when printing with Internet Explorer?

    Hello,
I'm using the LabVIEW 7.1 Print HTML Report VIs.
However, I'd like to change the default margings and footer and headres of Microsoft internet explorer which is used to do the actual printing.
I tried to find a way using the functionality of IWebBrowser2 (Wich is actaully used by the original VIs). It seems I have to use OLECMDID_GETPRINTTEMPLATE and pass a structure of the type ITemplatePrinter.
How can this be done - or is there a more simple way to do this?
    Thanx,
    Rainer

I'm looking for the same features.  Ideally you would be able to send the page setup parameters to IE programatically but so far I've had no luck doing that or finding any reference on how it would be done.  The closest thing I've seen is the print templates, but I am still unsure how those would be implemented exactly.  I did find this reference for the template which seems fairly descriptive:
