Help needed to interpret kernel panic
Hello everybody
Recently I've had a couple of kernel panics on my MacBookPro 13'' (OSX Lion 10.7.2 version, 2,26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3)
The last one occured today : I was opening Google Earth (the last version) to see the GPS position of a boat( from a link with the GPS coordinates taken from a website). Itunes and Safari were running, and also a PDF document.
The Kernel panic appears few seconds after opening Google Earth.
I also replaced memory and hard drive few weeks ago, and I just hope I didn't do something wrong.
here is the panic log :

Help needed with frequent Kernel Panics
Hi all
I've been having panics on my g4 for about a year now, sometimes 4 or 5 a day. They started when I was on 10.3 somewhere.
I have been updating and now am on 10.4.11 but it has made no difference. The panics can come as I'm booting up (when the finder appears), when loading cubase, sometimes even when I move the mouse. I originally thought it may be the M-Audio Delta44 sound card as it sometimes happens when I switch the system sound to play via the delta44, but I have also had panics when using Adobe Illustrator as well. Unfortunately I can't remember at what point they started. I do have an extra monitor on the g4 but have disconnected that and still get panics. I zapped the pram on Monday and that seems to have held them off for a few days. Here are the logs for the past week (sorry it's a long file), I am hoping some of you fine people may be able to shed light on what's causing them.
Thanks
G

Help needed in interpreting panic log from kernel panic error
My G4 iBook has started giving me kernel panic errors, often immediately after starting up. I haven't installed any new software or RAM recently. I've done a clean system install (completely clean - not an archive and install) then downloaded the combo update for 10.4.11. But the kernel panics are still happening from time to time. I've looked at the panic log, but it means nothing to me, so I'm hoping someone can help:

Understanding crash logs isn’t easy and it’s hard (sometimes impossible) to decipher the cause of the problem. Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button. The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure. In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.
May be a solution on one of these links.

Please help interpreting kernel panic message
Hello.
Could anyone please help me to interpret the kernel panic message (below) I received today. I have had several such events recently, and I have already read and implemented the suggestions regarding resolving kernel panics listed on the X-Lab's X-FAQs website. I have run all the repair and diagnostic stuff that is usually recommended to other people posting questions about resolving kernel panics. I don't have anything plugged into my Mac except the keyboard and mouse, and I know that I could take my computer to a shop and have someone look it over.
My specific question is this: Can anyone interpret the actual content of this particular kernel panic message and give me any clue as to the likely source or cause of the problem, or what is happening?
I hope that no one is offended by my posting since I am not an expert who regularly uses this forum.
Thank you very much!

Was this a one-time problem?
I claim no particular expertise, but I don't see much in the panic.log that helps to isolate a specific underlying cause.
That is, except for Maxit's rationale. Because the backtrace indicates that the exception occurred upon loading the IOAudioFamily .kext (driver, or extension "family"), related hardware &/or driver compatibility would typically be worth exploring. Please check to be sure that you've disconnected all non-critical peripherals & disabled login items and any "system enhancers" while you're troubleshooting this problem.
The 0x300 DAR (data access register) trap is probably the most common type of exception that causes kernel panics. It simply indicates that the processor couldn't perform a data memory access. This could be due to a programming issue or a hardware problem (e.g., "bad" RAM, HD corruption).
If the problem recurs without any more specific indication from a panic.log or, e.g., console.log entr(ies), I suggest you diligently work through the course of action presented in Resolving kernel panics.
Sorry I can't offer anything more magically insightful.
Good luck!

Help interpreting kernel panic
Hello-
I'm wondering if anyone can help me interpret a recent kernel panic. I had just woken my powerbook up from sleep and was talking one the phone. I wasn't touching the machine at all. Mail.app connected and downloaded my new email messages. Nothing else was running. Again, I didn't touch the machine. Suddenly, it panicked. The log is below, but I'm hoping someone can help shed some light on the possible causes of this panic. I've been through the entire Resolving Kernel Panics FAQ, and I've recently reinstalled. This isn't a replicate-able panic.

Can anyone decipher this message? It comes up when I turn on my computer and I can't get any further; I have tried to repair the disk and disk permissions, but nothing is working!
Here is the message that appears:

This all shows up on a gray screen and is highlighted black with white writing. There is also a box that has a dark background and white writing that pops up and tells me to restart my computer.
IF ANYONE CAN HELP, IT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!Sometimes one pass won't find problem. Depends.
At the least, I assume you repaired your disk drive(s) to verify the drive's directory and permissions are good.
You might want to do a clean erase and install on a test drive.
A lot of problems actually begin with memory errors, lead to corrupt prefs and files, and writing of errors to the disk drive and even directory.
I was impressed with AHT on this Mac Pro at how well and easily it found memory errors. better than older versions of AHT for sure.
Keep your eye on the Console > system.log and panic.log for one thing.
Backup. And try doing an install on another drive.
Even 3rd party hardware devices (like USB) can cause some problems.
And search for "kernel panic" - MacFixit, MacIntouch are both excellent and get a lot of reader feedback.
Anything "unusual" about software installed? something that needs to use Rosetta or hasn't been upgraded? and, did you use Migration Assistant and bring over programs etc from a PPC machine? -
Help! RAID causing kernel panics
Help! My Xserve RAID seems to be behind a bunch of kernel panics on my server. Whenever I try to access the volume, I get a kernel panic stating "HFS: truncate file didn't". This happened yesterday too, and I spent 5 hours running disk utility on the volume, which came up clean, and it hasn't fixed the error. Do I need to delete the array and restore the data? I'd rather not... Any ideas are appreciated.

Please help me solve my kernel panics
I have been having kernel panics almost daily for about 2 weeks and I can't figure out what to do. I have tried repair disk, repair permissions and no luck. I ran software update and everything is updated.
Here is my latest panic report. Any help would be great.

I have a 15" aluminum G4 that's about 2.5 years old. I'm running OS 10.4.7. I've always had problems with kernel panics but I've learned to live with them -- until recently. They seem to be increasing in frequency; about 4 per day now. It usually happens when I'm online, which I often access via airport, though I'm plugged into a LAN at work. I use Firefox as a browser. I would appreciate any insight into the meaning of the following report from my computer's panic log and, I'm hoping, solutions to the problem. The log seems to show the same message consistently.

Thanks for your help in advance. - RickHi, Huskies81.
The panic log is flagging your AirPort card:
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.iokit.AppleAirPort2...
Be sure the AirPort card is installed properly and hasn't come loose.
If that doesn't solve it, see my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
The "uncorrectable machine check" panic, i.e.
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x000A8E00): Uncorrectable machine check...
indicates a RAM problem, low-level programming error, or other hardware issue such as a defective processor or logic board problem. A faulty or improperly installed AirPort Card would qualify as "other hardware issue." However, even though the backtrace sections of the panic logs are flagging AirPort components, there may be other issues causing the panic and the AirPort components were merely engaged at the time of the panic. Hence why it is important to follow the troubleshooting roadmap in my FAQ.
Good luck!

Uninstall the software associated with this according to the developer's instructions. Often, kernel panics are caused by third party kernel extensions which are either deprecated or incompatible. Note that you should also have pairs of RAM modules installed, IE either (2x2GB or 2x4GB for your model). Non-pairs can make OSX unstable.

Resolving Kernel Panics - The X Lab -
I have gotten several kernel panics recently and I have not been able to figure out the source of it. My computer is more than five years old (17" PowerBook G4), and I'm wondering if it is the hardware, or software causing the problem. It looks like something to do with graphics, the report mentions "ATIRadeon9700. The software it panics on uses openGL and Qt as the window manager. But I have not been able to interpret it beyond that. I have saved three different reports from three kernel panics. Any insights greatly appreciated!

Take a look at Apple’s Crash Reporter document at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2004/tn2123.html

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: *Testing RAM* @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber. Also run your Apple Hardware Test.
May be a solution on one of these links.

Kind regards,
DominikMake a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed. -
