Help on achieving technicolor effect

Hi guys,
I am a little stumped and was hoping maybe someone had an idea to share. This should actually be relatively easy, unfortunately I'm at a loss for acheiving a similar vintage technicolor double exposure effect. An image attachment shows what I was hoping to achieve.
What's stumping me is how to acheive the RGB and CMYK colors WITHOUT blending. For instance the magenta and cyan do not mix to make blue. I'm also having a hard time making the exposures darker (as in the image) without losing all of the details.
Here is what I have tried:
-masking and then painting with a blending mode
-painting directly with a blending mode
-adjusting and masking each color seperately
-using a soft brush to paint the areas-but I always get a blend
If anyone has come across similar tutorials with seperate colors such as these using a double exposure feel free to pass them on. I've searched high and low for something similar to ensure I have acceptable knowledge in double exposure and the color selections, but no dice.
Thanks!

Starting with question #3:
Took the image you posted and transformed the Green and Blue channels to match the size and position of the Red. In the first, the background added from the transfomations is Black, and in the second one it is White.
#1 -
Here, I took your image, used a reather drastic Curve to bring out tonality in the face, and then Transformed the Green and Blue channels.
#2 - To better understand what is going on here, load the image into Photoshop, and look at each of the channels in isolation. You will also notice that there is a fair amount of "bleed" or "crosstalk" between the channels, so the original creator was doing something slightly different to what I did.

  • Need help on achieving this effect for a Photo Wall

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on achieving the effect of the photo wall in the site listed below? I think I understand that each of the "tv" screens is it's own individual video file, so I understand that part, but the part I am really stumped on is how it randomizes the video files to different locations and continues to do so. Is  there a link, component, or anything that someone could point me to? Thank you in advance for your helpful information.
    Here is the link:

It is unlikely any of those are video files, though there may be a simple movieclip that acts as a preloader giving the effect of a static tv screen.  It appears to just be something randomly loading images into a pattern of containers, which can be achieved by shuffling an array that holds the image file names.  There is a non-random element in the placement of the text, where each word changes between only two positions.
As for tutorials regarding the panels, you should search Google using terms like "AS3 3D wall" and see if anyone has prepared one for it.

  • Does any body no how to achieve this effect in ae or premiere pro cs5

looking to see if any1 can help me achieve this effect for my music videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIBEl35_wB0&feature=related is there a plug in like fcp or a easy way to achieve this appreciate any help thanks....

I'd use a loopOut expression on 3 keyframes for opacity. I'd also probably experiment with blending modes and throw in the exposure effect to get the flash at the end. A 32 bit comp will help you get a better blending mode with the footage. This will get you blink effect down, then simply cut to the revealed video. You'll end up with 3 layers in your composition. The bottom layer, the blinking layer, then then a duplicate of the blinking layer without effects.
The loop out expression is prewritten for you and requires no modification. You'll find it by clicking on the icon just to the right of the pickwhip expression and selecting Properties.
Your blink layer's opacity property should look like this:
The first and last keyframes are set to 100, the middle, as you can see is set to 10% but it's a matter of personal preference. This will give you 2 frames of full visibility and one at 10%. Changing the spacing of these 3 keyframes changes the look of the blink.

  • What All Should I Learn To Achieve These Effects?

    Hi,
I would like to know what all I would need to learn and which extra plugins I would need to buy to achieve these effects (Looking mainly to do the text effects and all the in video transitions)
I already have After effects Cs4.
    http://youtu.be/tIPLTiKAQTo
The reason why I am asking this in particular is because I will be doing only these kind of effects and nothing more. So I neednt waste time learning things I will probably never use.
    Thank you.

Unless there's a specific reason for reducing the frame size of the original footage I always work at maximum resolution. IOW, Don't resize your 550D footage unless you can come up with a really good reason to do so.
My content is 100% for the web. I will be creating just one or two videos in 720P (For streaming via amazon S3 and cloudfront) and the rest in 480P (For youtube).
Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all solution to the problem.
I understand. My case is pure youtube and web videos. So I guess I should follow the below scenario
    --> Shoot in Full HD.
-->Import the full HD to some video editing program and perform trimming as required
--> Import trimmed full HD to AE.
--> Apply the required effects (similar to the ones I showed in the video in my first post).
--> Import it in Adobe Media Encoder and Resize it to 480p or 720p as per the requirement and render.
--> Follow the above 4 procedures for the opener video (I have spotted a very good opener AE template for videohive.net)
--> Take the output videos and then stitch them together using a software like sony vegas or some video editing software and join them
    --> Render the output video
Does the above procedure seem good?
A preset is something everyone using AE should know how to use and to create.
I tried some text animation presets. Worked out fine. Going to learn some more on this.
    There you go.
Thanks a lot for your help.
If you like wasting a lot of time, effort and storage space you should use the workflow you propose.  If you want to be more efficient, you should edit your footage BEFORE you do AE work.
How about the work flow I mentioned above?
There are all kinds of editing applications availble,  Adobe makes one: Premiere Pro.
I took a look at it. It seems too costly. I think I will go with Sony Vegas

  • How to achieve this Effect?

Hey everyone i was wondering if you guys had any idea how to achieve this effect in flash.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QftcJtvLr8g

While you could probably do this in Flash, it is much more simply done using AfterEffects. There's a splendid text tool that can be tortured into effects like this. Have a look at the podcasts from Creative Cow on AfterEffects for some interesting examples.

  • HELP! Adding video effects

Alright, so I am new to Macs, I just got my first for Christmas. It's the newest model Macbook. I'm using iMovie 08, and for some reason I just can't figure out how to add effects. I've watched the tutorial video numerous times, and it says "it's so easy, just double click on the video" blah blah blah. In the tutorial video it shows a box pop up and there you can select "add effect" or something of the sort. Now, when I double click my videos in the project area, it just plays the video starting where I double clicked. I thought I was following the tutorial to a T, but I suppose I'm wrong. Please help!!

The effects are in iMovie 09, which has not been released yet. It will be released in stores in a week or two.

  • Could you use ActiveX controls to achieve the effect you like?

For example, you can use Shockwave Flash Object controls to load or
call some Flash motion pictures to achieve the effect you like!

They may also run on opening the VI (ie: even before you have run the VI...)

  • Need suggestion/Tip on achieving desired effect

I am trying to achieve this effect in AE cc 2014  Definitely, Maybe scene - YouTube
I am looking at making a similar video with the different video clips wiping in and out with the same transition.  You can see that each video clip is divided by a black boarder which can also double as a transition.  I already tried using CC Jaws, but i don't get that black boarder effect with the wipe.
I tried using Masks and that seems to be very time consuming.  Any thoughts or suggestions on how to make this effect without spending a lot of time on it?

Masks or track mattes are the way to go. Surprise, Visual Effects are time consuming. You will get faster with practice. There is no click here and do that button in AE.
If it were my project I would animate shape layers, one for each transition, then use the shape layers as track mattes for the video clips. There may be some tracking or some repositioning of the clips. It all just takes time.

  • How to achieve this effect, please?

    Hello
    I have an image here:
    http://stevehigham59.7host.com/orange.jpg
How would I achieve that effect, please - with the different shapes and colours against that blue background inside a blue frame? I'm just wondering where to begin.
    Thanks for any advice.

Many thanks to you all for your replies.
I haven't got Illustrator, I'm afraid so Photoshop will have to suffice.
I've saved all replies and will try out your suggestions.
    Thanks again.
