Help printing to a a printer connected to a pc

BACKGROUND: I am new to apple and just purchased a macbook. I have upgraded all of my software including printer drivers. I have an Epson R260 connected to a Gateway PC running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I have a second PC connected wirelessly through a linksys wrt54gs router (so I know the wireless network is working). The mac is networked fine (sees my home network and can connect to the internet).
PROBLEM: I am trying to set up the mac to wirelessly use the printer hooked up to the PC. I have added the printer using the "Windows" tab in the print setup window. In that menu, it sees my network, my pc and the printer (epsonsty). I select all that. Then choose the printer driver (epsonsp r260) from the available list of drivers. So all seems ok. When I print, the printer immediately goes to pause and the job is stopped. No error messages. I have tried the generic postscript driver, and the Gutinberg r260 drive. Same problem with each.
OTHER INFO: There is no address for the printer in the location space in the setup menu. Even though I have downloaded the latest epson r260 driver for the mac, it does not appear in the list of available drivers (only the generic on epsonspr260 series that came with the mac and the gutinberg drivers are options). If the printer is hooked up directly to the mac I can print just fine.
I have contacted Apple TS: "we only support printing 2 ways, directly or through airport, please contact Epson". I have contacted Epson TS (level 1): "please contact Linksys". I contacted Linksys TS: "system is working ok, can see network and internet". So I called Espon TS (level 2): "we don't support that kind of setup". So you are my last hope.
Can someone please help me out?
Thanks.

Problem solved. First of all I discovered that besides not being able to print, I could also not access shared files stored on the pc that was hooked to the printer. I could access shared files stored on a different pc on the same network. When I tried accessing the shared files on the printer pc from the other networked pc. I got an error message saying I could not access the files because I did not have permission. It also says there were not enough server resources (interesting...this is also what my printer error log was indicating!!) Could it all be connected somehow??? You bet it was. I had done everything I possibly could to make sure that all the permissions were set properly. I always had a feeling it was an access problem (on the pc side) because of the way the print jobs instantly were stopped. So after doing a search on the file opening error "not enough server storage is available to process this command", I found this remedy at www.pcdoctor-guide.com:
When when you try to access shares on a machine from a client you might receive "Not enough server storage is available to process this command." error. You may also come across this message and Event ID: 2011 in Event Viewer after you install Norton Antivirus for Windows (which seems to be the commonest reason why people see this message).
Solving this problem requires a Registry edit:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regedit, and then click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
\LanmanServer\Parameters
In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value.
Important: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, you will need to create it:
- In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
- Point to New, and then click DWord Value.
- Type IRPStackSize.
Important: Type "IRPStackSize" exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.
Change the Base to decimal.
In the Value Data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is listed.
If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, if the previous value was 11, type 14, and then click OK.
Close the Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize even more up to a maximum value for Windows 2000/XP of 50 (0x32 hex).
I had to create the IRPStackSize value and then I set it to 50. BAM!!! Everything now works, I can print to my printer through the pc and access all the files on the printer pc from either the other networked pc or the MB. Microsoft also had this remedy on there website.
Hope this might help someone.

  • Help needed with printer settings for wired ethernet connection

I'm hoping someone can help me with a network printing issue. I have a large format color laser printer (Tektronix Phaser) and since moving to OS 10.6 I can't figure out how to configure the printer so that the system sees it. I have a simple wired ethernet network with a couple of Macs and a couple of printers. All devices are connected via a switch. When using earlier OSs I was able to connect to the Phaser using Ethertalk. Obviously this is no longer supported and I can't figure out how to set the printer so the OS can see it. I have lots of options which can be turned on or off and in some cases set up in other ways: Ethertalk, IPX, Netware, TCP/IP, DNS, LPR, HTTP and remote internet printing, I've tried messing with these but the result is always the same--system doesn't see the printer. Currently Ethertalk is on, IPX and Netware are off, TCP/IP is on, DNS and LPR are on, as are AppSocket, HTTP, FTP and remote internet printing. I can change the IP address but no matter what address I've tried I cannot ping the printer. (I'm using a Gutenprint driver for this printer.)
I don't really know enough about all this to get anywhere and I haven't been able to find help anywhere even from tech friends. Xerox won't help me and neither will Apple. Any help would be appreciated. I can supply more detail on specifics where necessary. Thanks, Bob

Old Phaser models may becoming more and more difficult to use, but you can give this a try.
    1. Configure the printer via front panel to use TCP/IP and enable DHCP if it's supported. If not then you will need to configure an IP address for the printer together with your local network's mask, and gateway IP address. Except for the first the others will be provided by opening Network preferences to see what those settings are. The printer's IP address needs to be set somewhere within the range of IP addresses your router provides locally.
    2. You need the PPD file required for your printer. If you have the Phaser driver installer you can use it to install the PPD or you can extract the specific PPD from the installer package. This part is tricky because I don't know where you may find the driver now if you don't have the installer. The older installers can be accessed through the Finder by selecting the package then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. You can then rummage through the package to search for the PPD for your printer. Then navigate to the /Library/Printers/PPD/Contents/Resources/ folder and drop the PPD file inside.
    3. Open Print & Fax preferences and click on Add [+] to add a new printer. Click on the IP icon in the toolbar. Select Line Printer Daemon - LPD from the Protocol drop down menu. Input the IP address you assigned the printer in the Address field. You can file in the optional fields that follow. Then from the Print Using drop down menu locate the listing for your printer and select it.

  • Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro!

Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro! I have had this printer a few months and everything has been working fine until today. I did I have to turn my wifi router on and off this morning, so I think that might be it. I'm not extremely tech savy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I would appreciate it!! I've tried unplugging it, turning it on and off again, quitting it my from laptop, nothing works. Do I need to reconnect it to the wifi? How do I do this? I turns on fine and doesn't give my any error messages, it'st just my laptop that says it isn't connected. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks for providing complete information.  It seems like you've ruled out faulty docking cable, bad USB port, and software issue on the new Mac.  And since the shuffle still works fine on the older Mac, it's not a problem on the shuffle.
    Some things to try...
Connect the MacBook to its power adapter, so that it's not running the battery power.  If any other USB devices are connected, try connecting the shuffle as the only device, to a direct USB port on the MacBook.
If you can keep it connected for long enough, go to the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes and set it to Enable disk use (and Apply).  This will keep the shuffle's disk mounted continuously, instead of iTunes unmounting the shuffle's disk when not syncing.
If you happen to have an old USB 2.0 hub that has its own power supply, connect the shuffle through the hub to see if that make any difference.  The new Macs have USB 3.0, so if that's the cause, maybe a USB 2.0 hub in between can act as a "buffer" and make it work.

  • Help needed to set up printer connected to Airport (Bonjour)

I've successfully installed the printer (HP 3745v) when I connect it via USB. Leopard found the correct printer driver and I was able to print okay. However, when I think plug the USB cable for the printer back into the Airport Express and the Mac sees that same printer as Kind "Bonjour" and I install it, the Mac doesn't automatically choose the printer driver. It leaves you to figure it out. I cannot find the same driver as I did when connecting the printer directly to the Mac. I'm thinking this is a bug. Anyone able to get this to work. Please reply to [email protected]

Mine is plugged into my Airport and it picked it up automatically, but I had to ADD the printer first. Then it found the right drivers and all was ok. It did take awhile though for it to find the drivers.

  • After downloading Yosemite, my HP Photosmart D110 printer will no longer work. The wireless connection is fine but says it cannot find my printer when trying to print.

After downloading Yosemite my printer, a HP Photosmart D100 will no longer print. The wireless connection is fine, and a test page printed perfectly directly from my printer. When trying to print from my computer, it says it cannot connect or find the printer. I tried downloading the most updated software from HP website but it doesn't appear to be helping.

    Try resetting the printing system.
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.

  • I need some help setting up a WiFi printer please

Firstly, apologies for the long post but I’m really struggling with this one.
I live in France and am trying to get wifi printing working on a friend’s Intel iMac (OSX Tiger 10.4.11) connected to a Lexmark X4875 printer. She’s connecting to the internet via Airport using a Livebox router, no problems. I’ve set up the printer to work wifi and that all 'appears' to be successful with the wifi light going to green as it should. I’ve also ‘associated’ the printer with the router by pressing the association button on the Livebox at the time of set-up and the printer is registered with the Livebox with correct MAC id.
So far everything looks like it should work until I go ‘Add Printer’ and the wifi printer is never seen (no problems if connected via USB). I’ve reset the printer erasing all print settings and starting again, done numerous restarts of all devices and still no go.
I should add that I have set up many wifi printers previously and even had this one working previously for over a year - it’s just that she had to get a new Livebox recently and now I can’t get it to work.
I realise that not everybody will be familiar with the Livebox although they are common anywhere Orange operates as an ISP but I’m hoping that someone will have some nugget of information that will help me get this sorted.
Thanks in advance for any advice, Paul.

    Bump! Anyone?

  • Ipad can no longer find my HP air printer although was perfectly fine before. Have tried turning both printer and ipad off and on - no joy. Printer says that it is connected to my wifi.

Just returned from holiday and my ipad can no longer detect my air printer, although working fine prior to that.
Have tried switching both off and on again - no luck.
The printer says that it's connected to my wifi as does the ipad.
Would appreciate any suggestions as I have found it very frustrating trying to get any help from the HP support sites.
    Thank you

You're welcome. It's amazing how many problems can be sorted out simply by restarting ALL devices involved. That's my first troubleshooting step when I have issues like that - restart everything and try again.
I'm glad that it worked for you.

  • HP Laserjet 2820 - print spooler was unable to connect

Working in Microsoft 2003 and printer is on a wireless network. In over a year - never had a problem until 5 days ago an error message appeared when I attempted printing which stated... print spooler was unable to connect to your printer. This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugges, or being connected to a VPN, which will block your access to your local network.
Also, when I attempted accessing the Print Settings from HP Director, it would not open and gave an error message...An unknown error occurred. Make certain that the device's power cord is plugged in, the power is turned on, and that all cables are properly connected. Check the Troubleshooting tab or product documentation for more information.
Next, I thought I would delete the software and re-install.  However - I no longer have the installation disk for the printer.I then tried changing the printer port to a standard port. That did not work.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We're users here and do not speak for "Apple Inc."
Some basic printer troubleshooting steps before worrying about a printer driver:
    1. Have you tried turning the printer off and back on?
2A. Is the printer attached with a cable?
If yes, have you tried unplugging and re-plugging both ends of the printer cable?
If that does not help, can you test the printer with another cable?
2B. If your printer is not connected to the computer with a cable, have you tried restarting your printer (assuming wireless connection)?
Have you tried restarting your wireless router?
    3. Have you tried restarting your MacBook? (Be sure to save your work first.)
    4. Does the printer have ink? (Doesn't usually generate a 'communications error' though)
    5. Have you updated OS X or the program you're trying to print from recently?

  • Help please it is a printing problem through airport express from pc

Sorry I'm new on here too but I didn't get help with my last problem at all but I was able to figured it out on my own. No luck with the following problem though.
Here is the problem My printer works I can print from my Mac but not from my pc. It recognizes it and it says printing and the printer actually uses a page but it comes out clean/clear. I can print to this printer from my mac like I said but not from my pc. I have rebooted, restarted and deleted and installed the printer back again, but still nothing. I mean it works, it just doesn't print anything on the page. Just a blank page. The printer is connected to an airport express and it works and it has been restarted and everything. The printer was jump started too. It works great with my mac but my pc can not print to it. I have another printer connected to my airport extreme base and that one can be used by both my mac and my pc. It works just fine. So Why won't this other printer work with my pc but yes with my mac. Both printers are connected to the network through AEBS and AX through usb, Not directly to any computers. Both printers are HP photosmart allinone 2575 working just fine with both and HP 6210 officejet all in one printer working only with the mac. Remember it is responsive with my pc and it says printing and it actually grabs a page and prints it out blank. Oh and it does have ink, I have made sure.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my post. and I'm kinda new so Forgive me if I repeated myself too much, to get the message across. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks once again.

I have used the website and attempted to add the printer manually. However, it still says "collecting printer status" under port 9100, or "printer offline" for port 9101. Do you have any other ideas? It works flawlessly on my wife's apple laptop.

    HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a
I am connected to a computer but would also like to connect it to my laptop wirelessly.
Can't do it.  Must be doing something wrong.  Need help thanks.

    Hi @5468,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are wondering how to connect your HP Deskjet 1050 All-in-One Printer - J410a to a wireless connection. I am happy to look into this for you!
According to your printer's specifications and the Setup Poster, this printer can only be connected to a computer via a USB 2.0 printer cable connection. This printer does not have wireless capabilities.
Hope this answers your question, and have a great day!

  • Printing from Windows XP - indirect connection to printer

I'm trying to print from Windows XP/Boot Camp from my MB Pro. When I print from OSX, I use the printer sharing option and print through my roommate's Mac which is directly connected to the printer (Epson).
In browsing the threads on this issue, I have yet to see one that addresses an indirect connection to the printer.
    Any help would be appreciated.
(Apologies if I'm posting on the wrong section of this forum.)

    I used Bonjour for Windows available from here;

Set it up and printing is a breeze.
    Good luck.

  • HP D1520 Series printer test page hangs on connected windows XP or win 7 PC

I am new to the Mac world but have been using iPad and PC for a some time. I have installed a HP D1520 Series printer to my Win 7 laptop. I then connected my recently acquired 2008 MacBook pro to the recognized printer with my fresh install of Mt lion. When I send a test page it goes through its pre print routine but does not complete print job. If i connect the printer directly to Mac it works fine. My specific questions are as follows.
    1. Is this likely a driver issue with Mt Lion?
    2. Can I work around this issue with a Airport Express or Extreme or will I likely in counter same driver issues?
    3. If I use wireless express or airport option does it matter if it's a/b/g/ or n?
Bottom line I want to be able to access my printer with of iPad, Mac, or Win 7 laptop.

    Yes USB only printer
Device holding it? It is pluged in to my win 7 Laptop and Mac is connected through a Network Share to that printer so connection is not the propblem. I also set up file shares with no problems. Since my printer is not hooked up with a Mac or Airport device Bonjour does not reconize my printer. My print job hangs hangs in the middle of request making me think it is a driver issue that has not been resolved.
By wireless protocol I guess you mean it does not matter if router is a/b/g or n
Other than checking for software updates, is there another way to update a driver like on a win 7 machine.
    thanks for your help.....

  • Extremely slow printing on a photosmart c4480 connected with a macbook

My printer is suddenly printing really slow. Once I press print  ( one simple a4 document) it pulls the paper  in, it prints a little bit it stops for a minute or 2 then prints another small bit, then stops and restarts after a while and so on. takes ages to print on a4 simple page but in the end it prints the page. Same problem when I photocopy.
Strangely enough it printed in perfect speed the test page when I held cancel and start copy simultaneously.
I 've done all the normal  troubbleshoot  stuff taking off the powercord do a semi reset  from the front panel, even removing the software and reinstalling it, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have any ideas? Could this be a mechanical problem that needs a technicial and therefore money so more expensive than buying a new one? I only bought this printer a year and a half ago.
I would really appreciate any help.

There may be a driver setting that is causing the slow speed. I have seen settings like 'Print after RIP', which means the first page doesn't start printing until the entire print (spool) file is received.
I would also check that you are not printing at a very high resolution, like 1200dpi. This would increase the amount of processing required by the printer.
If you are printing from Acrobat, open the print dialog and click the Advanced tab. Ensure 'Print As Image' is not checked.
Could you also explain how your Mac is connecting the printer. Is it via IP, AppleTalk or some other connection?

  • "Printer not connected" message, but printer may end up printing anyways hours after

I'm pretty much helpless after trying reinstalling drivers (the printer is a HP C7180), updating and reconfiguring my router in various ways (Dlink DIR-655, 2.07NA) and trying all types of connections possible for the printer (ethernet, usb, wifi, auto dhcp, fixed adress dhcp), deinstalling and reinstalling the printer in Lion.
The drivers were properly re-downloaded and reinstalled. I followed Apple instructions for this printer under Lion.
The printer will work just after reinstalling from a first computer, but will immediately start behaving strangely after that. Any other computer will be told that the printer is not connected. The job will be put on hold, but it might end up printing an hour or two after that (or never).
I can't tell for sure if the printer is defective. The diagnostic isn't clear at all. I'd buy a new printer, but I'm afraid it might do the same thing, because it could be some problem with the router, for instance. I haven't found anything specific about this type of problem with this router model and this OS version (Lion 10.7.3).
    Any idea ?

I noticed that you cannot connect your HP Officejet 6500 a plus 710n-z to your MacBook running OS X 10.10.2. I am sorry for the frustration, but I am happy to help!
    Please see the following:

Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Tips for troubleshooting wireless connection issues
The following tips can help you troubleshoot and avoid wireless connectivity issues. You can try these tips separately or in combination to get a successful wireless signal.
Move the printer and the computer closer to the router, but no closer than 6 ft (1.8 m). Wireless signals can be weaker at greater distances between the printer and the router.
If you are experiencing an intermittent wireless connection, try restarting your router. Consult your router manufacturer, Internet service provider, or network administrator for instructions on how to restart the router.
Remove any metal objects between the printer, the computer, and the router. Objects such as refrigerators, microwaves, or metal bookcases can interfere with wireless transmission.
Move any device that emits radio signals, such as microwaves and cordless telephones, farther away from the printer. Such devices can interfere with wireless signals.
Make sure the router is broadcasting at 2.4 ghz and not at 5 ghz.
I would also recommend this website, HP Wireless Printing Center - Troubleshooting Issues.
