Help: Recent changes to iTunes U have begun to cause serious problems

Previously, our method for course creation was handled completely via Web Services. Immediately after course creation in a section, we would pull the site tree for that section, parse the XML to make sure the course was actually created, and then get the Course Handle.
With the April 9th update to iTunes, the ShowTree method has also changed. This was not mentioned as something that was changed; however, I assure you it has. When we pull only the xml for a single section, just as before, Course Handles are now no longer included in the response from iTunes U.
Bear in mind, we received no notice that an update was even going to occur, resulting in a catastrophic failure of service. We received a notice after the fact on the 9th, and that notice did not mention the responses for show tree changing at all.
Can anyone tell me what, exactly, they changed? Even the things they changed that were not mentioned in the notice?

Here is a bit of extra information, again: Real Problem, our workaround, and some requests.
First, Real Problem:
Requesting a ShowTree using a Web Services document via POST, you can specify a Handle and a KeyGroup. The handle we used was a Section handle. The KeyGroup we used was "most". This is to ensure we reduce overhead on our system (and on iTunes U), and also let us use our own unique Course Identifiers that correspond to our CMS unique identifiers.
Something on iTunes U has changed such that using a Section, and the KeyGroup "most" no longer includes the Course Identifier tag. This is the tag that we used to do a lookup (via parsing the XML response from the ShowTree) and get the Course Handle, while simultaneously verifying the course was successfully created.
Now, our workaround: (keep in mind, this may not work for you, and has a dependency as well)
Workaround:
Dependency: This assumes that the course is actually created, and that iTunes U will continue to send back the Course Handle upon successful Course creation. What do I mean by this? I would rather prefer not to wake up one day only to get an email saying: "Overnight, we decided to remove this functionality. Please do enjoy." If that functionality is removed, the only other choice is to request the entire site tree, KeyGroup set to "most," and a whole lot of processing of a very, very large XML document, only to look up a single number.
Requests:
One, do include both the Course Identifier as well as the Course Handle in a ShowTree, based on a Handle, and include them in both the "most" and the "minimal" KeyGroups. There is no reason a simple lookup on a single course should require any more XML parsing than is absolutely necessary.
Two, do not remove the response xml that contains the Course Handle upon successful Course creation. If this is removed, the ONLY other way to do this lookup would be to download the entire site tree and parse, trying to match a single key to a single value.
Third, when large and intrusive updates are made to iTunes U, as this one was, please do inform the community well in advance, and be sure to document everything that was changed, not just what is considered by a few to be "new features."

Since installing the most recent version of iTunes, I have to accept the software terms and conditions every time I go in to iTunes.  I sign in to my account, but when I re-open iTunes, as well as having to accept the terms and conditions before continuing, I find that iTunes has logged me out of my account.  None of this has happened before.  I am using a PC with Windows 8.

  • Please help me change my iTunes icon

So I understand the method of opening the info of iTunes (cmd=+i) and then pasting the new icon over it. Apparently iTunes 9 killed this, but I found a way to open Finder in root which brings that functionality back ( http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090901205400914 ). But my problem is when I open the info page for the new icon, the image in the upper left hand corner isnt the actual image, its the stock .png image. So I am able to change it, but only to the stock .png image. Ive been going crazy just trying to change this icon. Any help? Does the image I want to use as the icon have to be in a certain format? Thanks in advance.

As you have a AT&T DSL connection working on Automatic Configuration DHCP, I would suggest you to follow this link for setting up the router with DSL connection.

  • I have enrolled for the apple developer program but apparently have the same account name in iBooks. I need to change the iBooks account but don't know how. Do I change my apple id? Will this cause me problems with iTunes etc etc?

I have enrolled for the apple developer program but apparently already have an account with iBooks, cant have this it seems.how do I change my iBooks account, is this the apple id for my iPad and if I change this will it cause problems accessing iTunes etc?

I guess nobody knows if the crash that occured was legitimate or not?  Apple phone support could do nothing for me, so I guess I am left to drive 45 minutes to the nearest store.

  • Why did my Apple TV password stop working suddenly and why does changing my iTunes account password online not fix the problem?

My iTunes account password suddenly stopped working. Strangely, it still works when I sign into iTunes but does not work when I try to purchase a movie through Apple TV. I followed the instructions to change my password and that still didn't fix the problem. Anybody encounter this? What's frustrating is that Apple wants to charge me a fee for tech support. You mean I have to pay them to help me give them more money to buy temporary content through my Apple TV? Anywho, please assist if you can.

Have you tried restarting, the Apple TV, your router and your mac or PC.

  • I have just changed my iCloud account and am now having serious problems with Calendar on my Macbook Pro. Any ideas?

I decided to start using iCloud etc but discovered that my Apple ID doesn't actually exist (I was literally told this over the phone my an Apple Support worker) which is weird, as my email address for this Apple ID still exists. This is the first time I'd had any problems of this sort as I'd never had to use my Apple ID before. So anyway, I signed out of iCloud (i.e. signed out of my non-existant account) and signed in with my other, working, iCloud account which I've had absolutely no problems with whatsoever. All well and good.
Before signing out of/deleting my old iCloud account I moved all my events in Calendar from "iCloud" to "On My Mac" so that I wouldn't lose the information when switching to my new account. No problems with this. However now that I am signed in on my new account, every time I open Calendar I receive the following two error messages:
"Couldn't move your calendars to iCloud because an error occurred.
Make sure you're connected to the Internet, and then try again."
"The server responded with an error.
Access to account "iCloud" is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    "403"
    to operation
    CalDAVMigrateToServerQueueableOperation."
Note that with regards to the first one I am definitely connected to the internet. I have tried restarting my Macbook, have tried enabling/disabling Calendar in iCloud, nothing has worked. I always get these error messages. I have two options, "Try Again Now" or "Try Again Later", for the first message and "Try Again" or "OK" for the second. Pressing anything just results in the error messages just coming up again in a cyclic manner, after briefly trying to "Move calendars to server account". Sometimes a pop up also appears where it says "Upgrading calendars" with a progress bar but this freezes/never goes anywhere, and regardless of the outcome, I cannot access my information in Calendar. Note that behind these error messages etc I can see my events in Calendar but I cannot access the detailed information contained within them nor can I add any new information or essentially do anything in Calender. Sometimes Calendar crashes and I get a crash report.
Sorry for this dense block of information but I have no idea what's going on so I'm just trying to give a clear account of the problems I'm facing. I really hope someone will be able to help me with this and I thank you in advance.
    Sam

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

  • ITunes 8.01, 10.5.5, Serious Problems

    Hello everyone,
I'm having serious difficulties with the latest versions of Leopard and iTunes. My entire system has become unstable, at points even refusing to boot up since iTunes 8 came out. I have reinstalled the whole system twice, the last time being 2 days ago. The problems have returned, with more and more symptoms.
    Some of the problems:
-General instability: Finder freezing with little activity for minutes on end. Generally starts working again after several nerve-wracking minutes. Not sure if this is iTunes related, but it has started since installing 8.0.
-Corruption of the iTunes XML file. Inability to copy this to an external hard drive, and inability to boot up led me to the last reinstall of the entire system.
-Since reformatting and about 2 days of peace and quiet, more problems. iTunes has started up and recreated its library, discarding some artwork I had added. It has also added some of its own playlists (Songs, Audiobooks, etc). I replaced the files with those from a few days earlier, with success. Quit iTunes, now it seems that all the files "can not be read from" when I try to back them up.
-My screensaver, which presumably uses the iTunes library file(s) for the artwork crashes the system. Trying to turn it off is nigh-on impossible because it shows a lovely preview of it when you try to reach the settings. This causes the system to freeze.
I have followed some of the threads with interest, especially the ones about the "Freezing" and "Beachball" issues some users have experienced, although these seem to have to do with the store in particular.
I'm really, really frustrated and even worn out, trying to get serious work done on a minefield of a computer. Any suggestions would be helpful, although to be honest I'm happy to just be able to voice my deep concerns.
Thank you in advance and for reading through these frustrated ramblings.
    LK

I think that I have the same problem.
Without warning iTunes just hangs, leaving me with the "beachball", and if i try to shut it down with either cmd + Q or or alt + cmd + esc my entire computer hangs, the only thing happening is the beachball spinning on. On the otherhand: if I wait instead then it works normal until i change anything (like clicking a menu or a program or doing anything), then it hangs. I thought I'd see if it got out of it if I didn't do anything so I left it to see what happened but nothing happened, even over night.
Also: If I try to download podcasts or iTunes U episodes it hangs... thou iPhone apps works flawlessly.
I really hope they solve this fast. I feel that I can't use iTunes, because I don't want to risk my entire computer to hang.
I also have an external drive for TM backups and other storage but nothing iTunes related there.

  • I need to contact someone from adobe to change my mx records as they are causing a problem

I need to contact someone at adobe in order to change my MX records.
I used www.godaddy.com in order to buy my domain and I also use there email package.
When I tried the recommended way by adobe to host my site it worked but it caused me not to receive emails.
I had contacted godaddy who where very helpful and they have told me that I needed contact adobe and get them to change my mx records as they change automatically when I try to upload my site.
I have tried calling adobe but it is impossible to get anybody on the phone.
Any recommendations for me to be able to contact someone in order to change the mx records????

    Hi there,
You have full control over your settings of your site under settings - domain manager.
BUT godaddy have been giving you incorrect information.
Sounds like you just changed the NS records to BC, which will have killed your Godaddy emails. You need to change that back or get Godaddy to change it back and just change the A-record to the one BC wants for the Data Centre your site is at.
This will just point the "Web Traffic" and not the emails to BC.

  • ITunes 7.3.2.6 Upgrade Causing Serious Problems With Outlook

I just finished the upgrade to iTunes 7.3.2 and am experiencing serious issues when syncing my iPhone (ver. 1.01)with Outlook 2003. Right after the upgrade of iTunes, my Outlook reminder window popped open saying I had over due appointments. The appointments were all over due in multi-week expressions including birthdays from the original birth dates. My dad's birthday was like 3,800 weeks over-due. This repeated for all entries and birthdays. When I dismissed them all, I noticed that ALL of my repeating calendar entries, including birthdays, were gone. I have lost some data but was able to restore from backup. The problem repeated when I tried again. Main problem now is that the iPhone does not sync with Outlook at all anymore even though it appears to be doing so. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Here is more information - This is the message in the Event Log.

  • I use osx 10.5.8. Will the iTunes update 10.2.2 cause me problems?  Should I download it or not?

I've had problems with software downloads making certain programs unusable.  Is iTunes 10.2.2 ok for me to download on my macBook Pro using osx 10.5.8?  I can't seem to find the specifications for minimum system requirements for that download.

    Hello Aralyne,
You will have to update to Snow Leopard in order to connect with App Store.
Before you buy anything, first make sure your Mac is compatible.
Minimum specs for Snow Leopard.       Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -Read the Technical Specifications
Note.  You can now buy Snow Leopard from the Apple store on line again.
In USA.   Go to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)
In Europe or otherwise … call your National Apple Helpline.  Find it at … http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
In the UK …   Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (UK)        Price is currently £14.
Once you have bought and upgraded you will need to apply the Combo updater for Snow Leopard.          Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
    Then run software update.
From this point onwards you can use the App store.

  • Since upgrading to ios7 on my iPhone 4s, I have now got two serious problems.

The first problem is that when I make a call, I now cannot end the call by pressing the red button. This is obvioulsy not great news for a machine described as a phone!
The second problem is that the bluetooth connection to my car is now very flaky, when it was rock solid before. No longer can the bluetooth reciever control the phone (e.g. play, pause, fast forward, rewind to next song etc). Furthermore the control screen on the iphone is unrepsonsive except for volume control. I have performed a hard reset and this works for a while but then it goes back to the original problem. Is there anyway to downgrade the Ios as this is just not acceptable.

    No.

  • Serious problem with my iPod Classic/iTunes

I have a 6th Generation iPod classic (80 GB), and recently, I have been having some serious problems with it.
When I connect it to iTunes, there is usually no problem, it shows up, plays and displays the music correctly, etc. However, if I try to ADD any music to it, iTunes will freeze, then close, and within 5 minutes, my entire computer will freeze completely, and be shut off. For whatever reason, happen when my iPod finally disconnects because my computer turned off, all of my music is missing from the library (This doesn't happen every time it freezes, because I try to disconnect my iPod manually before everything freezes). The music is still on the iPod, (it says that I have XX.X GB of "other" instead of music/videos), but it doesn't show up. When I plug in my iPod, iTunes says that there was a problem and I need to restore it. The first time this happened, I lost over 5,800 songs, but I forgave Apple, because these things do occasionally happen, plus I had no idea what exactly went on. The SECOND time happened within the same week, after I had put 800 songs back on the restored iPod. The first time happened when I was using iTunes 10 (which is seriously buggy on my computer, and freezes often), so I switched to iTunes 9 (still buggy, but doesn't freeze quite as much), and the same thing happened. So now I'm thinking it's my iPod's fault. My iPod does a whole host of minor problems over time such as making certain songs cut off at a certain specific point for no reason (Always the same song, always the same cut off point, and I can't fast forward past it, I also can't delete the songs because if I highlight them on iTunes, iTunes will freeze, and if I find them under the music folder in iPod control, my computer will freeze), freezing the entire iPod for seemingly no reason, and somehow messing up my album artwork (it will appear as "Colourful Static"), along with alot more.
I know this is a troublesome problem, but if anyone could somehow shine some light on this problem, it would be tremendously appreciated.
    Thank you
    -Eric Luna

Unfortunately, when a hard drive starts clicking that means it's going bad. The mechanism is having trouble reading the drive. Since the iPod is mostly just a harddrive and a battery I have a feeling that this is your problem.
    watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMm6c3fr-fU
about 25ss in is where the clicking starts. If it sounds like that, but softer and more muffled since it is a smaller drive that is being enclosed then I think you might be SOL. Maybe if you're iPod is still under warranty you can get a credit and go for a touch and avoid moving parts all together?
