Help setting up mail rules

I have an iMac (main computer for storing emails/set to remove Mail from server when read) and a MacBookAir (set to leave messages on server/used for checking and sending emails out of the office). I was Bcc'ing to myself messages sent from the MacBookAir, so that when I get mail from my iMac, my mail rules sort the message into various project folders etc.
The problem is I quite often forget to Bcc myself.
Can anyone tell me if & how to set up a mail rule on the MacBookAir that will automatically resend me any messages in my sent box. Iv'e set up a Rule to 'if Date sent less than 7 days, redirect mail to XYZ'. I tried applying Rules to the Sent folder but nothing happens. If there is a better/automatic way to get rules applied to Sent messages, please also let me know!

  • How do I set a mail rule to select msgs on which i am BCCd?

Went to set up a rule for a particular address as 'Any Recipient' but this does not work if the sent mail had me in the BCC list.  How do I filter on this?
    (sender also using mavericks mail).

Yes.  I understand this.  I want to set up a rule to move the message to a different folder.
There's a header field X-Envelope-to: and the mechanism to edit header list - select Delivered-To lets me do this.  Previously I had tried to select Header, and that did not work:-(  I solved my own problem!

  • Setting up mail rules on icloud

I have just migrated from mobileme to icloud - a scary exercise which seems to require quite a lot of tidying up.  Here are some questions relating to using mail.
This is what I would like to happen:
    1.  When I read a message for the first time - whether on my Mac, iPad or iPhone, I want it to be moved to a number of mailboxes I have set up (or to trash).
    2.  When I read the same message later on one of the two other devices, I would like to see it mark as read and filed in the appropriate mailbox
    3.  When I send a message or reply (on any of the three devices) I would like my message to be moved to an appropriate mailbox, rather than remain in Sent.
    4.  When I set up a mail rule on iCloud I would like the same versatility as on my current Mac mail rules, with interaction between the rule and the address book, ability to have boolean rules with lots of either/or/and components.  For example, on my Mac I have a rule moving all messages from anyone in my Family group in the Address book to a mailbox called 'family'.  I have a rule which says if the subject contains x and if the sender is y then move the message to mailbox z. I have another invaluable rule which moves any message from a sender not in my Address book to trash.  Once a day I skim through trash to pick up any messages which should not be there and then can empty the remainder with one click.
    So--
1-3  Am I right in saying these can be done?  (I'm not sure whether the To: rule works - if it does, that is an improvement over the Mac mail rules).
    4.  The mail rules on iCloud seem incredibly limited compared with those on Mac Mail.  Am I missing something?  How for example do I set up the three examples I have given?  (A related question - can Trash be moved to iCloud and how does it get emptied.)
Sorry for this collection of questions.  What I wanted from iCloud was that I can continue to manage my email in boxes and trash, as at present, and that when I am away from base and my iMac, I see all my past correspondence for the year, and that I dont have to housekeep mail three times on the three devices.  I do hope this will be possible and appreciate anyone pointing me towards tips/answers to my requirements.

Yeh thats where they make the big bucks.... we have managed up until not to share apps, either a 2nd account or my wife just goes without the cloud
I'm still confused as to how i can setup my [email protected], can i have both the iPad & iPhone on the same @me.com email address. Dis regarding the 2nd phone at the moment. presume i had [email protected] on both ipad & iphone i should receive emails at both devices

  • Need help creating a mail rule please - re: spam

    Hello all,
Lately I've been getting a particular piece of spam. As I look at it in my Inbox under the FROM column it reads "VIAGRA ® Official Site". In the message pane, next to From: it reads "VIAGRA ® Official Site<my address@my isp.com> That is to say that it appears that I sent this to myself. I have for a long time had a filter for the term VIAGRA in my rules, and for this recent unpleasantness I even added a rule to filter out mail sent from me to me (which is inconvenient, because sometimes I will email from my laptop to my desktop machine.) But neither of the filters seem to be working.
    So, a couple of questions:
When I set up a rule in Mail to filter a message based on the sender (i.e. From) is it filtering the proper email address (the part with the @ in it) or the name attached to the email address?
Is there a way to filter based on the name attached to the email address?
Why won't mail filter messages that have been sent (bogusly) from my own email address?
    Thanks in advance,
    Spalding

I quit using rules for anything other than routing emails into the proper mailbox like "Family" or "Known Sender".
Just use the Junk button for these junk types of messages. I say types because most of these messages have subtle clues in the way they are constructed, addressed, or whatever, and your Junk filter will take care of almost all of them without you having to deal with hundreds of blocked words or spellings.
I get about 300 messages a day. I have a "Known Senders" folder that automatically gets messages from people who are in my Addressbook. Those messages from people I know are moved into that folder. The spam messages are moved into the Junk folder. The 3 or 4 messages left are usually alway spam and get tagged with the Junk button.
It takes a few days to see the difference, but it works well for me and much better than relying on my ISP (CenturyTel) to configure their worthless blocker.
There will always be a few unwanted messages in my Inbox that are spam because spammers make their living getting around your filters.

  • Help setting up Mail - to work with my MSN and Hotmail email accounts.

    Hi,
First of all you might want to double check the settings you are using for the POP3 account in Mail with Microsoft's instructions:

  • Help setting up mail box and rules, please.

This is rather a convoluted story, but hang with me if you can.- Please.
After all these years I just started to have problems with Mail. Not Mail's problems, but my ineptitude to figure out how to do what I wanted!
Got my new PB 17' last month - what joy- and migrated everything.
I tried Microsoft Office's Entourage, specifically the mail program, just to look at it. So, I imported my mail to see how it acted. During that time I deleted some stuff (knowing all messages were in Mail), so I could play with just a few messages. Closed Entourage after deciding that what I had was far superior. Went back to doing normal things, and it wasn't until about a week later I realized that a very large batch of mail had GONE. I realized right away what had happened - I had been online at the time and Entourage had actually deleted MY precious MAIL.
Too late to get any back, so I set up a "Sheila's Inbox" in Mail (on my Mac) to move messages to, so this could never happen again, and tried to create a rule. That went fine but then I had problems with my junk filter sending everything to my NEW in box (on my Mac). Then I tried to reset my Junk filter and that was a total disaster as I again lost my mail. Can anyone tell me how to set up an InBox on my Mac so I can move mail from the regular INBOX, and still have the Junk Mail filter working properly? I really thought I had done a good job with the rules, but obviously had not. Any hints would be gratefully accepted.
    Thanks,
    Sheila

  • Help setting auto response rules in Apple Mail

    Hi,
I am trying to setup an auto response for my Apple Mail. I need to configure my mail account to automatically respond to someone when they email me. However, if that individual were to email me again, they would not receive a response because one was already sent. I know this may be slight confusing so I included a step-by-step outline below:
    1. I receive an email from a client
    2. An auto response replies, "Thank you blah, blah"
    3. The same individual sends me another email
    4. No automated response because one has already been sent to this sender.
Thanks again for anyones help and or direction!

Mail does not have such a feature. I'm not even sure there's a third-party solution for you, but check at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • How can i set up mail rules from an iPad?

I am familiar with using rules to filter email.
From my Mac at home I acces iCloud.com and have no problems.
I went away for the long weekend, and brought only my iPad.
I started receiving spam from a new source and wanted to filter it out.
From safari, when I go to iCloud I only have three choices, none of them useful.
I have tried to use different URLs but always get redirected to /ipad_welcome/
Is there a way to do this?
Or does the post-PC device still need a PC?

I think there is not a good solution for it (yet). The best solution is to check if you mailserver provides a spam filter solution. I use Gmail and it provides a filter on the serverside. This means the mail is filtered befor I receive it on my iPad (and iPhone). You can also set up a gmail account as a exchange and push all the filtered folders.
    Cheers

  • Help Setting Up Mail

I recently moved over to a Mac from PC, and am trying to set up my work email, which is an outlook account. How does one go about this? Please help. Thanks.

You have to ask your company the POP3 settings in order to access your email through a client app. I show you how to set up the email *but please replace pop.yourserver.com and smtp.yourserver.com once you have the correct values.*
    - Open Mail, choose Preferences and then select the "Account" tab.
    - Click on create account (the + on bottom left) and enter your name, email address, password and press enter.
    - Now select "POP" and enter a name for the account (like work email...)
    - As incoming server enter: pop.yourserver.com and complete this step with your name and password
    - You will be asked about SSL and security. *Please ask your company if there's one for this setting*
    - As outgoing server enter: smtp.yourcompany.com and *choose authentication if your company is using it.*
    - This is the final step, review your settings and select create.

  • Need help setting up mail

i have done everything i know of to do but my mail 3.5 account still seems to not work. i cannot receive nor send. i dont know what settings to change. i created an IMAP account and this is what it says.
    Account Description: .Mac
    Full Name: Dwight Compton
    Email Address: [email protected]
    User Name:rickfordcompton
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.mac.com
    SSL: on
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mac.com
    SSL:off
any ideas? i just want a simple account so i can see the my emails from apps i buy add so forth and possibly to use for outgoing messages too.

    Hi
To use your Hotmail account in Apple Mail, launch Mail. If it's the first account you have, you'll be prompted to set up an account; if you've already set it up, go to Preferences, Accounts, and click the "+" button to create a new account.
    Account type: POP
    Incoming mail server: pop3.live.com
User name: *your full email address at hotmail.*
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.live.com
Tick "*Use authentication*". Fill in full email address and password.
Click "Continue". You may have to wait a couple of minutes at this stage.
Edit: I should point out that POP access for Hotmail was only re-introduced for certain countries this year, and may not be fully available globally yet.

  • Is there any way to set a mail rule using an applescript code?

I just wanted to know if there is a way to set a rule using a applescript, so that I can send it to a friend.

You will need to use OLE on the client, which would further require the use of WebUtil. Here (below) are a couple of MS examples that you would need to convert to pl/sql. There are a variety of Oracle notes which discuss reading and writing to MS Word and Excel. These can likely be used as a starting place to talk to Outlook. There is a WebUtil demo which includes an example of how to write to MS Word. It can be found on the WebUtil home page:

  • Help setting up mail accounts. oomph. why am i so stupid!?.

im trying to add another email address to my mail application though i dont even know where to begin. first off what are POP's etc. i have no idea. i've looked but i still dont understand. second how do i determine what my email client is? im using time warner internet provider under an adelphia.net email address. if you could just spoon feed me the steps i need to take to configure it it would be amazing. thanks.

There are two methods of handling email. The usual one is called POP3, or just POP (which stands for 'point of presence'): with this you download all your mails to your computer. The other is called IMAP, where you leave the emails on the server and read them from there. In your case we are evidently dealing with POP.
Your 'email client' is the program you use to collect and read your email: presumably Apple Mail (accessed from the 'postage stamp' icon in your Dock).
You will need to obtain the names of your POP (incoming) and SMTP (outgoing) mail servers from Warner.
In Mail Preferences, select 'Accounts', click on the plus sign on the bottom to add a new one.
Give the account a nickname for your own convenience in the first field, enter your email address and your name in the appropriate fields.
In the next three fields enter the name of your POP server, your username and your password.
At the bottom of this pane, click on 'Server settings'. In the pane which opens, enter the name of your SMTP server at the top.
You should ask Warners whether the SMTP server requires authentication - i.e. do you need to send your password when sending mail. If not, your are done. If so, then alter 'Authentication' to 'Password' and enter your useername and password again. Click OK.
Closed the Preferences pane andn you should now be set to go.

  • Mail Rules Are Not Being Saved After Mail Is Close & Opended

I am using Mail 3.6 with 10.5.8 on a Macbook Pro. I have set up mail rules so that an email from a specific person's email address goes to two places: 1) Move to a folder on .Mac & 2) the Inbox on the Mail app. Upon first setting this up it works. BUT when closing and opening the program or waking up the computer from a sleep status the rule disappears and the Rule Preference window shows that email message is now going only to the .Mac folder & none to the Inbox!
I spent a lot of time with Tech Support via telephone and even ended up reinstalling (A&I) OS 10.5 (plus updates); this was done on the tech's theory that Mail was corrupt on the root level. HOWEVER, that was not the solution as the problem still exists with the reinstalled OS.
Can someone from Apple's tech support who has knowledge of this issue please help?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Since replies to questions and comments in these Discussions
is mostly from users who are registered to post & reply here,
you may find better result in a call into AppleCare support and
if there is an incident or case number involved in the issue you
have experienced with corrective actions taken so far in your
communications with Tech Support(?) by phone, be certain a
reference is made to that conversation, for proper follow-ups.
+{You could refer someone you talk to there, to your post in here.}+
There may be some other issue, perhaps relating to hardware
or something else, that may bear looking into. Have you seen
a result of the system log files and reports, such as Console
generates from the computer in action? There may be a clue
in those almost cryptic reports. Also, you have a hardware test
on bootable partition in the original system install disc; that's a
specific test version for your computer, an Apple Hardware Test.
Boot instructions are on the disc's label. Run it in a repeat-loop.
Is there any third-party software installed later on, which could
result in complications or conflicts with the Mac's Mail app?
The problem, if not software, could be hardware. Or a logic error.
If you have AppleCare coverage in effect on the computer, that
is the call to make; and keep track of your incident/case number.
    Good luck & happy computing!
