Help trying to scan wirelessly on 2610 all in one on Mac OS X / Leopard

it doesnt seem to be working and for whatever reason the computer doesnt see the printer and vise versa.  This all worked seemlessly before.  Anyone know how to fix this?
I also have the printer plugged into a Time Capsule/Airport which is plugged to my cable modem

I'll post my own answer in case anyone else runs into this problem. I had to unselect the "automatically bring up scanner window" option in preferences. Apparently the default scanner window in image capture doesn't work. This is what grays out the "Use TWAIN UI" button. I updated to the most recent driver (2.4) and everything works peachy now.
It's a pain to have to go through 6 clicks just to get a preview, but it works. most of the time I just initiate a scan from the scanner and send it to the computer directly. the only time I use the "Use TWAIN UI" button is if I want to scan multiple photos at once, the auto crop feature of the scanner is very convienent for this. otherwise, using the built in controls on the scanner control pad get the image to the computer just fine.

  • Photosmart 2610 all-in-one Scan preview does not display

Recovering from a hard-disk crash, I've just reinstalled my Photosmart 2610 all-in-one using the driver and software package for Windows XP : rub_W01_Americas_Euro1_NB.exe. downloaded from the HP support site. All seems to be running well, except for a glitch when I try to scan: the document Preview does not display.  I have made certain that the Preview checkbox is duly selected, but nothing seems to help. It is the same whether I'm scanning a picture or a document. It also makes no difference whether I launch the scan from HP Director or from within another application.
Note that if I click Accept, the document (or picture) will indeed be scanned and saved. But I won't see it until I open it with some other application.
    Thoughts, anybody?
    Thanks!
    James

Hello James, welcome to the forums
I understand you are unable to see your scanned preview with your Photosmart 2610. I would suggest the guide below to use for troubleshooting steps for this issue.

  • HP Photosmart 2610 All in One Printer Paper feeds OK but the software and sensors are a problem

HP Photosmart 2610 All in One Printer   Paper feeds OK but the software and sensors are not allowing paper to feed until several steps are taken first.
(I am using Windows 7.  I also use the virtual XP mode and mostly MS Office 2003 docs).
I have had this printer for several years and love it.  Before I toss it out, I thought I would check if I could get it to work properly before I buy another printer.  Note: I did put in a new HP black cartridge (because it was out of ink) but the printer was not working properly for several days before I changed the cartridge. The printer was at step 5 before ink change.
Lately, each time I turn on my printer, I have to go through the same routine
    1. The printer wants to align the cartridges so I push OK
    2. The paper feeds into the printer and stops at the exact place to start printing.
    3. Error message appears that it is out of paper.  So I press OK to continue.
    4. It says "aligning print cartridges" runs through 2 sheets of blank paper without trying to do anything and then states "cartridge alignment failed"  "Press OK to continue"
    5. Screen is now normal and it appears it is going to work.
    6. It makes no difference if I used the copy function OR when I send a print job from the computer, the paper feeds into the printer and stops at the exact place to start printing but nothing happens.
    7. Error message appears that it is out of paper. OR that it is the wrong size paper.  I pull the paper that was at the proper place to be printed from the printer and then the error message says "Paper jam.  Press OK to continue"
    8.  I press OK.  The printer will then quickly feed in and eject 2 sheets of paper before it will actually start printing the print job.  It will work fine after this as long as I print from the same document.
    9. If I want to print a different document then I have to start all over again at step 6 to get the printer to work.  If I shut the printer off I have to go back to step 1.
    What I have already tried
    A.  Uninstalled and reinstalled the printer driver direct from HP web site.  I have done this several times with both the basic driver download and the complete package download.
    B.  I have done a partial reset by unplugging the printer, and then re-plugging the printer while pushing the  "# and 3" buttons while turning on the printer.  I have done this several times.  Each time it will work fine until I try a different document of turn off the printer.
    C. I have downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor and used it several times.  It states that "everything checks out OK"
    D. I have downloaded the HP Hardware Diagnostic Utility 4.0 but it does not work with my printer.
    E.  I have cleaned all the rollers and blown air throughout to make sure there were no bits of junk in the paper's path or blocking a sensor.
    F.  I have tried different brands and weights of paper (all 8½  x 11) but nothing works.
Most of the problems started when I added the printer to the virtual machine so I could print XP files.  This may just be a coincidence because the printer has the same problems when I use the copy function without the computer being on.
Thanks for looking at my issues.  Any help would certainly be appreciated.

I just tried using Notepad as you suggested and had the same result.  Paper feeds in stops at proper place and error message "out of paper"
I just put in two new HP ink cartridges because the other two were low and I was told that this might be the problem.
I seem to remember that the HP 2610 shows 2 "ink icons" in the lower left corner.  One for black and one for color.  The ink icons would change from completly full to just an outline as the amount of ink went down.  Currently the black ink icon is missing
This is a very frustrating problem because the printer works great after doing a few steps to get around the problem.  The fact that the problem reoccurs any time anything is changed is the major problem
Most of the problems started when I added the printer to the Windows 7 virtual machine so I could work with Windows XP programs.  This may just be a coincidence because the printer still has the same problems when I use the copy function without the computer even being on.
I want to thank you for all of your efforts.  Perhaps this is a unique problem that will never be solved and it is best to take my losses and buy a new printer.  As a last chance, if possible, could you refer my post to someone who is an expert with the HP 2610 printer.

  • Going Nuts trying to install my HP Photosmart All In One

I am having a heart attack here! Tried several times to install my All In One and everything works, BUT the scanner? Keeps telling me that the scanner is not connected, or can't be found. Then when I click on the buttons to edit photos or enter the Photo smart studio, message says "Quit Unexpectedly". I spoke with HP and they said this is a comon error with Leopard but have not provided any useful info as to how to fix this other then uninstall and then reinstall. Getting old and driving me nuts. Anyone out there experience this yet?

I have an HP 2710 All-in-one (wireless) hooked up to my network. I never have problems printing, but when I scan, I have to go to the printer, press the scan button, then select the "computer" I want to connect too, which is my macbook. If I do not go to the printer and select the macbook then I get the same error you are talking about. Have you tried this solution yet?

  • HP Photosmart 2610 All-in-One, Manual Two-Sided Printing, HP e-mail support Ticket no: 8028153835

HP e-mail support, Ticket no: 8028153835
I purchased my HP Photosmart 2610 all-in-one printer in 2005. It was previously installed on a HP Laptop, Windows XP, and all the features worked.
It is now on a PC running Windows Vista Ultimate 32. When I tried installing the printer software CD, it wouldn't load because of the Vista OS. I then loaded the HP Photosmart 2600 series full feature printer driver (Vista OS compatible) from the following HP website link:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-47754-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...
Now I cannot get the Printing Preferences to allow Manually Duplexing (two-sided) printing. This option was available on the original printer software.
I've tried the solutions on: HP Image Zone Help / Two-Sided Prints which indicate:  Click the Finishing tab / In the Document options area / select the Print on both sides check box (this box is not available).
When I run the printer from the Control Panel as Administrator, the printer Properties / Device Settings show Manual Duplexing: Enabled.  When I go to the printer Properties / Advanced / Printing Defaults, neither the Finishing / Print On Both Sides check box is available nor will the Printing Shortcuts tabs allow the Print On Both Sides option to appear (only shows Print On Both Sides: Off).
HP e-mail support told me to install this patch to correct the problem:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-69848-1&cc=us&lc=en&...
When I try installing the patch, it won't load because it wants the original CD software. So I'm back to my initial problem of trying to load the original printer software that won't load because the CD is for Windows XP OS. I am at an impasse between the Software CD that I have, and what is available on the HP website.
    What is your solution?

The driver is supplied through Windows Update.  Go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, then select Windows Update.  It will take a few minutes to update the list, then the Deskjet 6500 series will be a choice under HP (not Hewlett-Packard).

  • Problems Printing to HP 2610 All-in-one

    Hi Folks,
First off, I'm a Windows person so please don't assume I know the internals of OS-X very well (my wife is the Mac user, but is not the household "techie"). That said...
When we try to print documents to the HP 2610 All-in-one (USB connected directly to her G4), the print dialog comes up looking "almost" normal. The bottom of the print dialog only offers a "?", "Supplies.." and "Cancel" (but the left half of the cancel button is chopped off). "Send FAX Now" (greyed out) is also there. No print button! "Supplies" offers to sell me ink cartidges and "cancel" of course cancels the print job. Where is the "Print" button and how do I get it back?
System preferences, System Profiler shows the printer as available, the default, USB and running HP driver version 7.3.0 (the latest one HP offers and the one I installed after upgraging to OS-X 10.4.3) is 7.3.1). System Preferences, Printers also shows the printer as available and on a USB port.
I have tried printing from TextEdit, Office:X Word: Service Release 1 and AppleWorks 6 (6.2.2) and get the same messed up print dialog.
Oddly... the system has no problems printing to a Brother 1440 Laser (not defaulted) connected via USB to one of my Windows XP Pro systems. It can't print to it's direct connected USB HP 2610.

  • HP 2610 All in One Utilities Problem

Hi, I've got a problem with my HP 2610 All in One Printer. I'm trying to clean the cartridges/check the ink levels etc, and normally I would have done this by choosing the printer from the System Preferences printer section, but when I click the Utilities icon, an error message says that the printer was not turned on or connected.
I've uninstalled the software, reinstalled the basic printer driver, but the problem still persists. It won't show me any ink levels, allow me to clean, align etc because of the fact the Mac thinks the printer is turned off, despite the fact that I can print to it.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I also tried plugging the USB cable into the actual computer rather than the keyboard, but it had the same effect.

  • HP Photosmart 2610 all-in-one refuses to apply manual IP

My home network has a HP Photosmart 2610 all-in-one printer on it.  Occasionally all the computers on the network see the printer as offline (Vista and XP).  The printer must be deleted and then added again in control panel to make it work again.
This is happening because the printer IP is changing sometimes.
I am trying to assign a static IP by going to the printer server in a browser (192.168.1.101) in my case.
Then I click the "Networking" tab on the top, select "Wired (802.3)" on the left, select the "Manual IP" bullet, and enter "192.168.1.126" in the "Manual IP Address" field and "255.255.255.126" in the "Manual Subnet Mask" field.  When I click apply, the standard 'page loading' progress bar in the browser starts but never finishes  Opening a new browser and going to 192.168.1.101 confirms that the IP has not changed.  I tried this in multiple browsers (IE8, Chrome) and nothing would work.
I also tried "telnet 192.168.1.101" in a command window but I couldn't get it to connect.
    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

I am trying to set up my MacBook to a wireless printer Epson All in One XP-600 on my home wireless network.  I need to find a driver that will work with system OS 10.4.11.  Without the driver when I print the printer keeps printing page after page with some type of code starting with: %!PS-Adobe-3.0  %RBINumCopies: 1    %%Pages: (atend)   %APL_DSC_Encoding:UTF8.  My MacBook Pro running system OS X 10.5.8 works fine, beause I was able to install a compatible driver.

  • 8500A Plus Scan from all-in-one to Mac over wireless only possible?

I have spent most of the morning reading over the various Forum questions and answers regarding my issue but nothing seems to have addressed my issue directly, perhaps what I want to do is not possible. I'm trying to scan to my Mac (Yosemite 10.10.1) from my Officejet Pro 8500A Plus (referred hereafter as "Officejet") over my wireless network without have to connect to my USB.
    Scenarios
    A) When I have the Officejet connected to my Mac via USB, when I hit the touchpad Scan -> Computer it shows my Mac and works just fine, and it lists my Windows desktop as "Computer Not Listed".
    B) When I have the Officejet connected to my Windows Desktop via USB, when I hit the touchpad Scan -> Computer it shows my Windows Desktop and works just fine, and it lists my Mac desktop as "Computer Not Listed".
    C) When I have the Officejet connected to neither computer via USB, when I hit the touchpad Scan -> Computer it doesn't show either computer as an option to scan to and says "No Computer Detected" and has some instructions but they don't help me with my Mac, and for the Windows Desktop it tells me to "Activate Scan to Computer" but when I try to do that, my Windows desktop tells me "Communication cannot be established with the printer".
My main goal is to be able to scan to my Mac from my Officejet via my wireless network, with a secondary goal of doing the same with my Windows Desktop. But right now it only seems to work with one or the other if connected by USB. Is it possible to send a scan to my Mac from the Officejet over the wireless network without having to connect it to my compter via USB?
    Your help is much appreciated!

    Hello,
Thanks for posting your queries on forum,
Scenarios A, B and C holds good with the product functionality, when the printer is connected via USB cable it will detect only the computer to which its connected and not the other computer.
For you to scan to both the computer yes you can install the printer on wireless network, I dont have the printer here with me but will try my best.
Install all the three devices(Mac, Windows and Printer) to the same network
for Yosemite we dont have the full feature driver available so i would like you to perform Apple Software Update and install the HP Printer driver Version 3.0.
You can also download it from the standalone link " http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907 "
For Mac go to Printers and Scanners>> Click on the (+)symbol>>Add Printers or Scanners
An Add window opens up>> Select your printer(Bonjour multifunction) >> At the bottom under USE section select the HP 8500A printer driver>> Click Add.
It will download and install the required driver
on the Printers and Scanners window>>Select the Printer that we added >> Click on Options & Supplies>> Check if you have Utility Tab.
If yes click on the same>> Open Printer Utility and enable Scan to computer.
Now check on the front panel if it displays your Mac.
Install full feature software for windows and Activate scan to computer on your windows machine and it should display the both computer name on front panel of the printer.
I tried the above steps on my Envy Printer and it works.
