Help with b9180 on Vista 64 (network)
I've been using my 9180 on win xp without any problems.
I recently upgraded to windows vista 64 but i can't install the printer sucesfully.
The printer is connected via network cable and IP address is configured manually.
I can access the printer with the browser.
When starting the driver installation everything is fine until the driver should be installed.
Option "through the network" is selected, the instalation proces finds the printer. I select it from the list of found printers (only one is listed) and click next; i do see "device detected" message and then then i get the message "device setup has failed to complete" with the big red X.
I have tried to uninstall (with reboot) the software and tryed again without any sucess.
Please, can anyone advise me what to do ?
Thank you!
Please follow these instructions below to resolve this issue:
For USB connected All-in-Ones:
The HP all-in-one should be turned on and ready while you complete the following steps:
1. Make sure that the HP all-in-one is connected with its USB cable to the USB port on the computer. Highlight any all-in-one or unknown device entry listed under Other Devices(if present), click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
2. If you see the HP all-in-one under the Imaging Devices section, highlight the HP all-in-one listed under Imaging Devices, click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
3. If you see the HP all-in-one under the IEEE 1284.4 compatible printers section and no other printers are installed with USB, highlight the IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer entry, click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal. Skip this step if another printer is installed with USB.
4. If you see the HP all-in-one under the IEEE 1284.4 Devices section, highlight the HP all-in-one, click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
5. Unplug the USB cable from the HP all-in-one.
6. Leave the Device Manager open, and return to the Printers and Other Hardware screen. Click View installed printers and fax printers to open the Printers folder.
7. Delete any icons that pertain to the HP all-in-one. Return to the Device Manager screen when you have deleted all of the HP all-in-one icons.
8. Plug the USB cable into the HP all-in-one. Plug and Play should attempt to install the drivers.

Make sure that the HP all-in-one is turned on and ready while you complete the following steps:
1. Just before you complete Steps 2 - 8, disconnect the parallel cable from the all-in-one. None of the entries in the Device Manager should disappear. If any entries disappear from the Device Manager, reconnect the all-in-one and perform Steps 1 and 5 only.
2. Highlight any all-in-one or unknown device entry listed under Other Devices(if present), click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
3. If you see the HP all-in-one under the Imaging Devices section, highlight the HP all-in-one listed under Imaging Devices, click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
4. If you see the HP all-in-one under the IEEE 1284.4 Compatible Printers section, highlight the IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer entry, click Action, and then select Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
5. If you see the HP all-in-one under the IEEE 1284.4 Devices section, highlight the HP all-in-one listed, click Action, and then click Uninstall. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the removal.
6. Leave the Device Manager open, and return to the Printers and Other Hardware screen. Click View installed printers and fax printers to open the Printers folder.
7. Delete any icons that remain for the HP all-in-one. Return to the Device Manager screen after you have deleted the all-in-one icons.
8. Reconnect the parallel cable to the all-in-one. Plug and Play should attempt to install the drivers.

Need help with duplicate print jobs over network that I can't cancel
I have the Photosmart Premium All-in-One on my home network. My kids who each have laptop running Windows 7 and are connected via wireless to the printer via a DLINK DIR-655.
They hit the print button too many times and it keeps printing over and over again.
Is there a way to get the printer to stop printing these duplicates. I tried turning off/on but they just keep printing.
We're wasting paper/ink and I need help with a solution.
Please let me know. Thanks.
AngeloThere should be a button with a red 'X' on it on the front of the printer. This is the print cancel button.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
I am employed by HP -
I had a Time Capsule running in an AV Cabinet and it made too much noise as it backed up and ruined soft/quiet music passages (and created far too much warmth as well). So, I visited the local Apple store and the guy I met worked through a few solutions with me. I decided on an Airport Extreme for the audio cabinet, and would move the Time Capsule to another room where it would not create noise interference.
So, I have the Airport up and running perfectly well. I changed my wireless network name and password.
I cannot get the Airport Express and Time Capsule to show up on my network. They both just blink that brown/orange color on the front. When I go to the Airport Utility, it does not pick up the Time Capsule or Airport Express. I have tried unplugging and plugging back in and scanning for devices, but dont know what else to do. Are they still looking for my old network? Is there a way to reset them??
Thanks for any help.I've tried the option key on both--the AEBS offers 14 options, including Automatic, while the TC offers 8 options, and no Automatic. The AEBS lists (among others) 802.11 a/n-b/g compatible, 802.11 a-b/g compatible, or 802.11 n (5 GHz)-b/g compatible. The TC offers 802.11.n (b/g compatible), 802.11n only (2.4 GHz), and 802.11n only (5 GHz), among others...
I had already followed the instructions in the link you supplied, except that the wireless options don't quite match...
I am currently trying 802.11n (5GHz)-b/g compatible on the AEBS and 802.11 (5GHz) on the TC, which gives me a rate of 270 on my n devices and 54 on my g devices, according to the Airport Utility.
This might be the best I can do, without buying a new TC. Thanks for any advice you can give...

Help with design of this home network setup
Hello all
My friend's home has internet through Comcast and their modem is an RCA DHG535-2. This modem is currently functional in their office within the home. Their problem is the wireless signal is very weak in their basement. They have purchased a TC and have placed it in their office and wired to their iMac through ethernet. Is their a better way to design this setup so the Time Capsule can provide a broader and better range throughout their home?
For example,
1) Can the physical location of the TC change in order to broaden and evenly provide wireless range throughout the home? I would think not since the TC needs to be wired connected to the modem.
2) Would an Airport Express help out?
If you can provide a step by step to set this up, I would greatly appreciate this
Many thanks
RezFRezf, welcome to the discussion area!
1) Can the physical location of the TC change in order to broaden and evenly provide wireless range throughout the home? I would think not since the TC needs to be wired connected to the modem.
Since you mention that the TC is connected to the iMac with an ethernet cable, it sounds like the location options of the TC are going to be somewhat limited. Technically, you could locate the TC anywhere as long it was connected to the modem with an ethernet cable.
If the office is located in a central area of the home, that would be a good location for the TC
2) Would an Airport Express help out?
Possibly. The usual location for an AirPort Express is a point that is approximately 1/2 to 2/3 the distance from the main router (the TC) to the area that needs more coverage. If you have a laptop handy, move it to the proposed location of the AirPort Express and see if you can get a good, stable internet connection at that location. If you can, the AirPort Express should provide improved wireless coverage to the basement.
If your friends can pull an ethernet cable from the TC to the area in the basement that needs more wireless coverage and connect an AirPort Express to the ethernet cable, that will provide the strongest wireless signal to the specific area. -
Need Help with error message on the Network Systems Preferences, Please
In Systems Preference, > Network, I get the error message "Your network settings been changed by another application," with an active OK button. However, when I click the OK button, it persists and does not allow me to access the screen. The only way to end this is to force quit Systems Preferences.
Do you have any idea what is causing this freeze? I have a TimeWarner Internet connection (which I want to change to Verizon as soon as I resolve this). For a while I had Earthlink DSL which didn't work well at all. Could it be something with the not-used Earthlink or the current TimeWarner?
Any ideas about the cause and, more importantly, the solution?
Thanks,
JeanieMy computers have not been networked, intentionally. I like having them autonomous. So I have a separate Internet connection for each. And maybe that's what I need to maintain.
In the house is a Mac Mini and the house phone with new Verizon modem. In the separate office, I have my G5 tower, which is really my main computer.
Was just on phone with Verizon Tech who did say that they do not support Mac. They made a decision not to because there are fewer of us. However, I can purchase a premium support which appears to cover such support.
I've not seen the Verizon commercials, but I expect that they are filled with hype. The one I laugh at the most on the FIOS cable video is that they call their cable user interface "intuitive." -
Help with IP camera outside home network - PLEASE!!! i'm very frustrated
I have a related issue.
I have a camera that will not let me change the listening port, which is 80.
I would like to be able to admin the camera remotely using a URL such as:
http://xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa:1234
where xxx.yyy.zzz.aaa is my static IP and 1234 is a made up port #.
Then, I want to have the request on port 1234 map to / forward to port 80 at the camera's local Ip address.
I've tried to set it up as an application and as port forwarding but to no avail.
anyone able to tell me procedure to map that? i believe incoming port must be ANY, then "destination port" is ??? and "forward to port" is ???

On the port forwarding screen
Make sure you have selected Advanced view.
Enter the LAN IP address of the web camera in the first box
Select Custom Ports from the pull down in the second box.
Advanced Settings should now be displayed.
Source port should be left as ANY
In the Destination port field, select Specify.
Enter 1234 in the box that appears.
In the Forward to Port field, Select Specify
Enter 80 in the box that appears.

Intermittent network performance with WRE54G on Vista, and no Xbox 360 connectivity
I bought a WRE54G this week to help with some network dead spots in my home after moving house.
So far I've only had no real success - configuration seemed to take a while to work through (by the time I got the WPA PSK worked out) but now I at least have 2 blue lights on the device all the time.
On my Windows Vista Business laptop (Toshiba Tecra M400 with latest drivers) in my office (a deadspot) I can connect to the network and WirelessMon reports consistent signal strength of 60% with occasional drops to 40%. However although the connection seems to remain constant, connectivity is not. I seem to suffer severe degredation of network connectivity - streamed video will not buffer correctly and times out; connections to my corporate Exchange server are not retained. My guess is that the laptop is doing something like switching between the router WiFi network and the WRE54G network, although i I switch off the WRE54G I lose all network connectivity to my latptop in my office.
On my xbox 360 (using the Microsoft XBox 360 wireless network adaptor) I am also having problems. Once or twice I have successfully been given an IP address and then failed to get DNS servers. This evening I don't even get an IP address.
I'm stuck - I've tried a LOT of things and not achieved any luck. Can anyone suggest anything, or do I have a faulty range expander.
Details below....
My ADSL router is an SMCWBRA79042 which does support WDS. All the devices in my house worked correctly with this router in my old house before introducing the WRE54G.
I use WPA PSK, TKIP. However I've also tried to get things working without any security at all, and then adding in security functionality afterwards.
I have already upgraded the firmware on my WRE54G to the latest version on the linksys web site.
I have tried using different channels. Initially I was on 8 (it was a free channel in my neighbourhood) but also have tried 11 and am now on 6.
I have tried changing the beacon to 50 and reducing the RTS and fragmentation thresholds to 2250.Hi
Have u checked the compatibility of manufacturer's of these two devices i.e ADSL Router & Range Expander ( IMP * version No of WRE54G ) .
Cheers. ! -
Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud 2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel. I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.” After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar? Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue? Thanks much in advance!Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!

Help with iTunes 2.0.4 and library on networked Mac
Hello, I was given an old Powermac G3 (blue and white). It's running Mac OS 9 and iTunes 2.0.4. I have it hooked up in my garage. I want to listen to my iTunes while I'm out there working on stuff. My iTunes library is on my MacBook Pro in the house. I cannot get the G3 to see my iTunes library, or my MBP. I have sharing enabled on my MBP. Both computers have internet access through the network, and I have no issues using my iPhone 5 with my MBP. I don't understand what's going on, but I would love to get the garage computer working! Help, please!
What kind of networking? When I think of G3s I do not think of wireless capability, so do you have some kind of Ethernet LAN? Can the G3 "see" the Macbook Pro for anything?
What kind of sharing? General file sharing? iTunes Library sharing (again not sure when this came in and if it was present with iTunes 2)? -
Need help with QoS config/setup for my home network.
I have a home network that spans two buildings, has and FTP download server, VoIP phones, and several computers among other IP devices. I run a home based business where my clients get access to the company FTP download server (NOT illegal file sharing). the problem is that when they are downloading files my VoIP takes a big hit and gets choppy when speaking to my customers. Below is the layout of the network.
Our Internet access is Verizon 4G, there are no other options available at this time or we would switch. The Verizon 4G MiFi connects to a TP-Link wifi router that then connects to port fa0/5 on the Office 3550PoE switch. There is a trunk between the Office switch to the House 3550PoE switch. The House switch then connects to the Shop 3524XL switch also using a trunk. Please note that EVERYTHING works fine other than the VoIP issue, VoIP makes and receives calls without connections issues.
Auto QoS has been run on the Office switch ports fa0/1 and fa0/2 as well as on the House switch ports fa0/3 and fa0/5. There is NO auto QoS on the 3524XL
What is the best way to give VoIP traffic top priority over FTP and web browsing when going out port fa0/5 on the Office Switch? Over the internal network we are not having any call quality issues between the IP phones, just calls to our SIP provider. Yes, I understand that once calls exit the Office switch to the TP-Link wifi router there will not be any QoS. But, if I can give priority to the packets at the layer 3 Office switch (or wherever you suggest) then at least I will not have to kill a users FTP download while I am on the phone.
Thank YouI can make ANY changes necessary, just need to know what to do.
First, did you notice the output of the command sh mls qos fa0/5 above? Is it working correctly?

Tech Help with PSE5 /Vista and XP
I don't know why, but I've had nothing but trouble when installing PSE5 on either my main PC Running Vista Ultimate, or my lappy running XP Home.
I hope someone can help 'cos I am running out of places to find technical help and advice.
Vista installation
I have struggled for a year now with a crippled installation.
This is the best I have been able to achieve.
Install from disk: programme fails to initiate, messages re various files not found.
Followed all advice on the Adobe help pages including installing the infamous "Patch 502" which made my problems worse.
Finally managed to get a working (just) installation by copying disk to desktop and installing from the ".msi" file as it wouldn't install from the ".exe" file.
Result
Programme loads and is workable, but lacks any of the help files.
I have located the help files folder "Adobe Help Center (0)", and would like to know where I should pase it in order to activate the feature.
XP Home Installation
This one was much simpler! installed straight from disk, with the luxury of help files! HOWEVER, (there always seems to be a "however" when installing PSE 5)
Installing some extra tools and brushes, I placed the downloaded folder on my desktop for convenience, whilst installing them.
Once installed, I cloosed PSE 5, and attempted to delete the Downloaded folder from my desktop.
"Acess Denied" ! Following other's advice, I enclosed the folder in an un-named one, and dragged it to my documents, and tried again.
"Acess Denied" ! Horror of horrors, I noticed that the folder had not "Moved" but only "Copied"...Now I had three of 'em..rabbits comes to mind!
I eventually decided to re-boot into safe mode to kill 'em!
Whilst shutting down, (with nothing running) I noticed a window pop up saying "Closing Photoshop Elements"!
I aborted the shut down to investigate,
Opening Task Mgr. There were no applications running.
Switching tabs to "Processes", there were FIVE instances of Photoshop running each occupying fairly small amounts of memory, I can't remember how much, but I had to "End Task" on each of them before I was allowed to delete the folder that I had been denied access to.
As you can imagine, I have been a little paranoid when opening PSE 5 since, and always start Task Manager first.
This reveals that as a matter of course, When Photoshop Elements 5 opens, an entry appears in "Processes" as expected, and occupies around 80000MB of memory. At the same time there is also a further instance of Photoshop Elements 5 occupying 720MB of memory.
Upon closing the programme, the larger memory usage disappears, but the smaller one just reduces to occupying 680MB.
This, fortunately doesn't seem to affect shutdown of my laptop though.
Please forgive the length of this post, but I thought that it was best to give you a full account of my "PSE Woes", if I am to expect some usefull help and advice.
Please let me know if you want anything more.
Thanks.Hi Barbara,
On the vista PC, I'm by default the Admin account.
On the XP one, I've no Idea, I have just done a clean install on a brand new HDD, I've not set any password or admin account, so am I Admin or not? lol
Don't use any Norton prods. on either machine
On the XP Machine, I've partitioned the drive into "C" and "D", and allowed installation onto the "C" partition.
Just installed as I would any other piece of software, no special "disablements", just had nothing else visibly running at the time.
This installation seems to be the most successful of the two, since Help files are useable.
The only strange thing is that when opened, There is always two instances of PSE showing in Task Manager, one at 80,000MB and one at 720MB.
On closing, the smaller one reduces to 680MB, the larger one disappears. Don't know if this is normal.
It's a year ago since I went through the nightmare that is installation on the Vista machine, and I can't remember what hoops I had to jump through at the time to get it to work.
I suspect that it took exception to me wanting to seperate it from the "C" drive.
The PC had been set up with 4 Partitions: "C" (O.S): "D" (recovery):"E" (apps): "F" (data) and I forced it to install on "E", inspite of this it insisted on depositing some files on the "C" partition! among which is one in particular, "C;\ProgramFiles\Adobe\"Adobe Help centre" and "Adobe Help Centre(0)" which I feel need to be moved to join the rest of the installation on the "E" drive. Trouble is, I don't know where these are normally situated within the application folders.
I'm sure it would work if I pasted it into the correct place.
In view of the numerous problems I had installing in the first place, I don't feel that un-installing is an option, since I'm scared that the whole thing will refuse to work again...installing "Patch 502" was the biggest headache I've ever experienced with any software I've ever encountered.
It destroyed the (at least) working installation, and made future install attempts impossible. -
Help with two scripts - Mounting remote DMG and Checking which network I'm connected to
Hey guys, I need some help with two separate scripts:
1. The first script I'm trying to create to mount a DMG stored remotely on another Mac using an AppleScript or shell script. Using the following:
set cmd to "hdiutil mount 'afp://username:[email protected]/Lion/Users/username/Desktop/Test.sparseim age'"
do shell script cmd
results in the following error:
error "hdiutil: mount failed - not recognized" number 1
I'm not very experienced regarding AppleScript or using hdiutil, could somebody point out what's wrong with my script?
2. The second script I'm working on to try and essentially prevent the 'Could Not Find Server' Finder dialog when a network mount is unavailable. I guess what I'd like it to do is detect which network I'm connected to, and if I'm connected to the correct network, then mount the shares, otherwise just fail silently without any errors. From the searching I've done, using try statements should do this, but they do not, and I'm still presented with an error dialog after the server cannot be found.
Does anybody have any suggestions on this script? Also, I've seen some tips regarding detecting which wireless network the Mac is connected to, which could work, but what about when connected via Ethernet?
Thanks!Edit: I need to clarify on my first script request:
I need to mount the DMG on the remote Mac, not on the Mac I'm running the script from. -
If my music is on the cloud how would I listen to it with no wi fi or network? I will be traveling by plane and then I will have no access to wi fi at my destination. Please help.
I cloud is not a streaming service. It is simply a storage locker. So before you leave, download the music you are going to want to listen to onto your pad.
