Help with Creature speakers on iMac...

Ok, so i got the JBL Creature speakers to go with my new iMac and I have one problem. The left satellite speaker has no sound.I am very sure that when we tested it at the store it was playing ok on all speakers. We even tried it on the iMac they had on display.Could it be that the jack is not all the way in on the Mac? It certainly feels like it needs to go in a bit more as, I can see part of the rod still peeking out when it is plugged, but I'm afraid of forcing the issue. Or is this something I have to configure somewhere on my system?

Indomac,
One way to know for sure is if the light is on on the left speaker (either green or blue) just like the light on the right speaker with the volume controls.
If the light is not on, then you should try to reinsert that jack (for the left speaker) on the sub. The jacks are shaped so sometimes you get the impression that they are in, but are really not. I know that the brown jack---the color for the left speaker---is shaped like a triangle and should fit into the triangular opening on the sub (The right speaker is a yellow jack with a square shape). It can sometimes seem attached, but if the shapes do not correspond, the jack will not fully seat and the lights will not be on.
You should not need to configure anything on your system as it automatically detects it when an external speaker is attached to the line-out port. And lastly, do not force the jack into the iMac line-out port, I have the same speakers as you, and the green colored jack from the speaker does protrude, as you said, a bit when inserted. You can see a few mms of the rod just peeking out between the port and the jack's plastic backing.
Check that the speaker jacks are seated correctly before pursuing other options.
Hope this helps...

  • Help with start up. new iMac 27" with Marericks installed has been giving me trouble with IDs and passwords.  More than one account downloaded from older Laptop.  Now the computer has the turning wheel in from of gray screen and won't go any further when

    I recently started using my desktop iMac 27" and have been having problems since installing Mavericks, not saying that Mavericks is the problem per se.  I think I have too many accounts with too many names, with too many Apple IDs and too many passwords, email passwords and Apple ID passwords, and keychain passwords, etc.  Can't keep them straight even though I write everything down.  The screen has been making me log in and log out with Account name and passwords after everything I've been doing, also confused about Users and Groups and how to sync everything. I finally just "shut down" everything and the screen was black.  When I turned the computer on again, the circular gear in the middle just kept turning but nothing happened after that.  Then I held the on button in the back until the screen went black again.
    What should I do?  Is there a way to combine all my accounts into one account with one Apple ID?  I should say that I also have trying to use iCloud and it has different IDs and passwords. Also when I try to log in with one account name, I can't enter anything I write,and when I type on the keyboard, nothing appears on the screen, although I can receive emails, I can't send them.
    In another account, what I type does appear on the screen, but I think it's an earlier account and doesn't translate aver to the other account. ALTHOUGH i set up iCloud accounts, they don't appear any more.
    Very confused.  Any Ideas about how I can get the computer to start up again and show a new screen?
    Thanks to anyone who has workable suggestions.

    If you really believe that your system has been compromised, here's what you do:
    Disconnect your Mac from your cable modem;
    Back up any documents on your system that are important to you;
    Boot your Mac from the system installation disks that came with it (insert the disk, restart your Mac, and hold down the "c" key until you get the "spinning gear" icon);
    Choose a language and click the arrow button to continue;
    From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility;
    In Disk Utility, select your computer's hard drive;
    Click the "Erase" tab;
    Click the "Security Options" button and select to have it overwrite all the data on the hard drive;
    Click the "Erase" button and allow it to process;
    Once the "erase process has completed (it will take a while), reinstall Mac OS X.
    Or, if this is too much for you to accomplish on your own, take your system to an Apple Store and have them help you perform these steps. If your system was indeed compromised, this will remove any such hack. You can then set up a new user account for the computer, reinstall your applications (reinstall only from original disks or downloads from the company making the software) and documents, and reconnect to the Internet.
    Note that when you reconnect to the cable modem, you may still get an IP address starting with 198. This is normal with some cable modems and probably not a cause for concern. It will not be an indication that your system is still compromised; that will not be possible if you perform all the above steps.
    Regards.

  • Help with Bootcamp (Speakers and mighty mouse scroll wheel not working)

    So I just loaded bootcamp onto my macbook but I'm having some problems.  First, my scroll bar on my mighty mouse doesn't work when in Windows.  The only help I've seen online has been for those who haven't yet loaded windows.  Can I still download a driver that will help me out?  My speakers also are not working and the Realtek driver that everyone said worked for them didn't work for me.  Advice?

    Sorry, this is not possible in the current version of Firefox, but we have an open bug report where we are tracking this issue here:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=686228
    With luck it will be fixed in a future version.

  • Need help with the classic question: iMac or MacPro?

    HI all,
    I have been tossing this questions for a little while now, high end iMac or low end MacPro? So if I can request your patience, please allow me to rattle this lot off and see if you can help.
    My current spec is:
    • MacPro 1,1
    • 2 x 2.66 Dual Core Xeon
    • I have 2 screens, 24"
    • All 4 internal bays have HDs, 1 is designated for TimeMachine.
    • 2 external HDs, 1 for iTunes and misc, 1 for boot HD backup.
    The software I run are mostly the Adobe CS suites, some 3d, some audio, and soon some FCPX.
    I have had the computer for about 4 years now, and although it has served me very well it is getting tired etc. I am a long-term tower computer fan, but I can't ignore the question.
    So, I have been thinking of either:
    • Going for the high-end iMac, and consolidate much of my internal HDs into an external RAID system.
    or
    • Getting the low-end MacPro, with the 3.2ghz Nehalem chip upgrade, and basically keep the same 'style' of system I have now.
    The
    What would you recommend? My concern is of course related to price, and bang for the buck, but more than that - longevity for the upcoming years. Pretty much now is the time when I will be updating, and I expect to keep whatever system for the next few years.
    I don't see my uses for the Mac to be too much different from what is listed above. I have not installed anything other than additional HDs and RAM into my current Mac - so in that respect expandability isn't too much of an issue.
    The price is similar enough to be comparable.
    In case you wonder, the current MacPro has been earmarked for use in another task, which is likely to include usage of the screens... Hence in somerespects, this is a "starting from scratch" situation...
    Thoughts?
    Many thanks,
    Aaron

  • Added an avr, need help with tv speakers

    hello community,
    i have a Toshiba Regza 46mv732 led tv and i recently added an Onkyo TX-NR525 avr. everything is hooked up correctly, and surround sound works perfectly EXCEPT i cannot get the tv speakers to turn off automatically when the avr is turned on. i have to manually turn the tv volume down. my neighbors tv, a Samsung, turns the speakers off automatically when his avr is turned on-can i do the same with my Toshiba? am i missing something in the tv settings? and yes, i have a high-speed hdmi cable hooked up to hdmi-1(ARC) on the tv to the avr.
    any help will be surely welcomed.
    thanks!!!!

    That doesn't appear to be a model made by Toshiba USA, and this is the Toshiba USA forums. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region, because I don't have specific information on your model. I can say that it appears to depend on model. On my Toshiba TV, my speakers don't mute automatically. I use an optical cable to connect my sound system. When I set up my sound system, it had me press the volume buttons on my remote so it could detect what signal to use for volume up and volume down; I didn't press those buttons. I used rewind and fast-forward (because I don't use those buttons for their intended purpose). This allows me to control my TV's volume with the volume buttons and the sound system's volume with the rewind/fast-forward buttons.

  • Help with router for new imac???!!!!!

    I just bumped my cable internet speed up to the max I can get. I did a speed test with and without my router hooked up and my old Linksys router is really slowing it down. I have a Linksys Wireless-G router with speed booster.
    My question is, Are there routers that are a lot faster??? And what one should I get to be compatible with my Imac. My Linksys one was a pain in the butt to hook up b/c Linksys does not have support for a Mac. Also, don't the setup discs they all come with only work on PCs????
    Help please !!!
    Thank you.

    The current 802.1N specification is significantly faster than your G and has better robustness and range besides. Except for Apple's Airport basestations, all routers are configured via web-browser. In fact, just last week I set up a base for a colleague (don't remember offhand what brand) and all the so-called installation disk had on it was Adobe Acrobat and PDF files of the printed Quick Start Guide and manual that came in box.
    It really isn't that big a deal setting up a new basestation but if you really want ease of operation, you can't beat Apple's Airport = and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a TimeCapsule.

  • HELP with Upgrading Memory on iMac late 2009

    I purchased 16GB of Ram from NEMIX based in FL to install in my late 2009 iMac and order based on the MAC specs that were on the website -- read like MAC approved so did not worry.  I followed the directions in the MAC manual and online like a chef.  I first removed the original RAM cards and then spent 3 hours trying to reseat the memory cards to no avail. At first after reading threads tried to to see if there was a bad one in the new four I purchased by trying them in various configurations. Then when that did not work and I went back to the discussion board I saw that some suggested that only 2 of the 4 slots will work so then I tried that with all the cards. That did not work..ie beeping when I turned machine on..so then I went back to the originals and now those don't seem to work anymore.  Everything suggested that the cards are not seating correctly so I tried to get them in the right place by following directions precisely.  But it still is not working and now my computer is inoperable..HELP would be greatly appreciated!

    Macs are very, VERY picky about the RAM they need to use.
    Generally, you cannot get reliable and compatible Mac RAM from retail computer/electronics shops or chains.
    Return the RAM for a full refund.
    Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
    Here is the correct RAM you need for your Mac from OWC.

  • Need HELP with Windows on my iMac.  Thanks.

    I'm an experienced Windows user. I bought the iMac 20" Duo Core 2 (2.16ghz) because of the hardware and the design. I want to use Windows XP Pro (then Vista) almost exclusively.
    PROBLEM: Windows installed and worked PERFECTLY (without the Mac OS or Boot Camp. I also installed the Mac drivers for Windows. Everything went beautifully UNTIL I started installing the Windows drivers for my external firewire sound equipment. Then the computer wouldn't fully boot. Every manufacturer I spoke with concerning my external equipment said that they did NOT plan to update their drivers to use Windows on a Mac. They said that there are problems and issues with the new Duo Core 2 processor in a Mac running Windows. These are DRIVER issues that may never be addressed by individual equipment manufacturers.
    QUESTION: Do I need to reinstall the Mac OS and keep it updated in order to avoid conflicts with Windows' use of the Mac hardware? Or can I simply install Windows only, and try for workarounds?
    Thank you very much for your replies.

    Thank you, Eric, for your VERY helpful reply.
    I've reinstalled Windows XP Pro S2, and got the system up and running again.
    The problem I initially had was with the M-Audio Firewire Solo external soundcard. Once the driver was installed, the computer locked during booting. The M-Audio tech I spoke with was exceptionally knowledgeable, and he said they were working on updated drivers for both the Mac and the PC, but not for Windows on a Mac.
    The problem could be that the firewire port uses the same IRQ as the hard drive. Although there isn't technically a conflict, the firewire port could be interfering with the boot when it's connected to a phantom-powered unit. And this unit cannot be hot-wired. However, the computer locked simply upon installing the driver with no unit connected.
    I've decided to change over to a external soundcard that uses USB instead. I'm hoping this will solve the problem.
    I purchased this computer for digital audio recording in Windows. If there are more conflicts that I cannot workaround, I'm going to have to return it and get a PC-based Intel desktop system. I don't want to do that however. I really, REALLY like this machine. But I need it to work with my equipment.
    BTW, I've searched the other forums here on Apple.com. Several people have written in about the problems they've had with both the firewire and USB ports - using the MAC OS. So it's not just a conflict with Windows.
    I really appreciate your reply. Thanks again.

  • Need Help with moving to an iMac.

    Hey,
    right now I'm writing from my old PC, I've orderd the new iMac 5K with upgrades like 16 GB ram' 3TB fusion drive and intel i7 so it means it takes more time.
    I've never had a Mac and I actually bearly used one, but since for the past 4.5 years I've been using iPhone and 2 years iPad and I really enjoy Apple's eco system and contuity feature I decided to make the switch.
    but because I don't have a lot of friends with Macs and I never used one I have some questions:
    1.) Can 'pages' show me a .docx files without make them look wierd as it does so on the iPad?
    2.) I saw a lot of ways to move my files (which I really need since I'm a student) to the Mac but I'm really not sure which one is the best for me. I need to move a full iTunes library, word and powerpoint docs, photos, movies and my Explorer 'Favorites'.
    3.) In my past computer (not these one the one before) I had a lot (a lot) of viruses so now I have East Nod32 8 and its protecting my computer fully. should I buy a liecence for the Mac or as I saw posts online Mac don't need an anti virus?
    4.) I heard that there's going to be 'office 2016' for OS X so I really thinking about purchesing it when it'll come. is office for mac works ok or it is a waste of money?
    5.) I would like to use 'BootCamp' to have windows since some of my software doesn't support OS X, how much space should I give it?
    6.) As I wrote here above I've never had a Mac before, what should I know about the software and the iMac 5K hardware?
    (sorry if my question is too long...)

    Hey Biransider,
    I’m in the same boat as you; recently got rid of all Winders boxes and opted for the iMac 5K and I picked up that new 12” macbook. However, this is not my first mac, and had a 2010 MBA for the past five years. I also already received my iMac 5K and it's just plain great!
    I’ll skip the obvious ones already answered.
    2) You can try the migration assistant (never bothered) but with your specific requirements you can do this all with a simple external HDD or even thumb drive. The biggest thing with storage you have to understand between Winders and Mac is they use a different file system. Winders = NTFS, MAC = Mac OS Extended format as defaults for anything this century. You Mac can read NTFS formatted drives, but cannot write. There is middle ground; FAT32, a very old file system, can be written and read from both Winders and Mac, however it does not support a single files that are over 4GB in size (single 4GB+ file). So do you have an external HDD lying around? It’s likely formatted in NTFS for Winders. Just copy your files there and your Mac can copy them over. When you’re all done with Winders, I would reformat that external HDD with Mac OS Extended (journaled) so you can read/write to in going forward.
    3) I’ve never once purchased antivirus software for my 2010 MBA and used it daily. Winders, I would not let it join the Wi-Fi network before it had AV
    4) Office 2016 is currently in FREE preview mode right now. http://products.office.com/en-us/mac/mac-preview I have it running and it’s 100% free until they go live in June. I would not get the current Office 2011, get the free preview for now, and just buy the license in June; no reinstall needed, just buy the license in June.
    5) the Drivers and software Apple used to make bootcamp work so well puts the HDD size requirement well above Winders “minimum system requirements” I believe it burned 55GB just for the Winders 7 on my iMac.
    6) Did you also upgrade to the graphics card to the Radeon M295X? From a GPU processing standpoint, that is a big upgrade from the standard M290X it has by default. If you plan on doing ANY modern 3d gaming or video editing I highly recommend you update your order and get the updated GPU. Honestly, unless you plan on running a bunch of virtual machines at the same time on your iMac, I’d dump the memory upgrade for the GPU upgrade.

  • Can anyone help with a very slow iMac?

    I'm getting increasingly frustrated by this computer, it takes an age to start up and then the processor makes it's noise for quite some time before allowing me to do anything.  Often the beachball is whirling around too.  I'm pretty useless when it comes to computers.  I ran the etrecheck software and have this info from it.  Can anyone offer any suggestions please?

    You only have 2GB of RAM, which is not enough to run OS X 10.10 smoothly (it's the bare minimum requirement to run it at all). Consider buying more at http://eshop.macsales.com (there are other vendors as well). Find the correct RAM for your model by searching for your iMac's model identifier - iMac8,1. Also look at their installation videos.
    You have several failed Apple launch agents, you may need to re-install OS X to fix that. Boot the computer while holding down the Command ⌘ and R keys at the same time. This will boot to the Recovery partition. Choose the reinstall OS X option.

  • Help with external speakers please

    Just bought an HP G62-457DX.  I plugged in my external speakers and got a message that confirmed it, but I don't know how to make the sound come out of those speakers instead of the built-in one.  Can someone help?  Thank you.

  • Need help with Yahoo Messenger for iMac webcam chat

    I'm trying to use Yahoo messenger webcam chat on my iMac.  The camera works, but no one can hear me.  My mic works with Facetime and Skype.  What do I need to change?  Thanks?

    Yes it does.  There are only two selections and I've tried each of them to no avail.  Is what I'm asking even possible on the Mac?  I've tried with a few different people and it's always the same problem:  Great picture, no sound.  Facetime and Skype work great, I'm just having problems with Messenger.  It's version 3.0.1 beta.  Perhaps that feature just doesn't work in Mac?
    Thanks for responding!  I was worried I'd asked a stupid question!

  • Hi, can anyone help with a speakers question????

    Will using unsheilded speakers near my iPod touch damage it? I have a jvc speaker case which is unsheilded. I had it 5 inches from my touch and it froze. Coincidence?

    i'm not sure what you mean by unshielded speakers. but i've not read anywhere that putting your ipod near speakers is a problem. and most docking stations involve placing your ipod virtually on top of (or very near anyway) speakers, so i can't see that would be the problem.

  • Using iMac sound output with JBP 'Creature' speakers

    Am trying to install a pair (set actually) of JBL Creature speakers. I am using the iMac digital audio output which I understand should also serve as an analogue output. However, the sound out of the JBLs is quite muffled, tinny, and low, which leads me to believe that something is wrong. Any clues?
    Not sure how Mac Audio outputs work.

    HI,
    I have the Creature with satellites. One of your satellites should have a plus and a minus sign. That is volume. The bass and treble are on the Creature subwoofer.
    The outlet you use on your Intel based iMac is the one closest to the right side on the back.
    Make sure your cables are seated properly. They connect "just right". I have found the Creature to have superior sound for such a small system.

  • VERY BAD SOUND: MacBook Pro (unibody) with external JBL Creature speakers

    Recently I've bought myself a brand new Mac Book Pro. I'm very happy with my new laptop, but I can't say that about the audio-output quality my new MacBook Pro delivers in combination with my existing external JBL Creature speaker set. In the recent past this speaker set was attached to my old iMac 17" flat, which delivered supreme music quality, but now in combination with my by far more superiour new MacBook Pro, the music sounds very disturbed with a background noise and it seems that the speakers do get to much power/signal - but still the music sounds very far away and the more I pump the volume the worse gets the music output (i.e. more noise is coming out of the speaker) and the right channel seems to have less power (or output). Now I've disconnected my JBL Creature speakers set as from time to time also static ticks are loudly to be heard when just connected whilst I don't do anything with my MacBook Pro.
    Can anyone tell me whether this is a problem of the audio-design of the new MacBook Pro (aluminium unibody) and if so is there a solution for to by-pass or overcome this very annoying problem.
    Many thanks in advance for your support!

    It is true that the audio quality is a total crap, the audio card seems to be "Realtek" and yes it is ****, I am really ****** cause it is not a cheap computer and I have always used mac too and I am really disapointed. I just can't believe that Apple has passed by the audio quality that is so carefully observed in the ipod products. I have been blessed (no, it is really a curse) with a very sensitive unhuman high frequency hearing and my ears really hurt when I use the earphones with the Macbook notPro and I use it at low volume. You can even hear when the sound system goes off when no sound is played for a little while and the when a sound is played goes on and the noise begins. Also you can hear strange whistles and sissings wich are not continuous but the main amp noise is there. This kind of noise is produced by bad quality, low eficiency amplifiers or other factors I do not know. But I have tested several realtek integrated cards and the all are pure crap or less than crap.
    Ok bye, bye.
