Help with Numbers. I am trying to input numbers such as 001, 002 etc.
I am trying to input numbers such as 001, 002 etc. but the 00's in front keep getting dropped. I understand putting them there does not make this true or real numbers but I need them in this table. How do I get this without the 00's being dropped?
If have a preset length of the field where the whole column must have the same length and you want to just backfill the leading zeroes, you could use a formula
If you enter this in cell C2 and paste it down in C column, it will add leading zeroes to your numbers listed in column B
=LEFT("00000",5−LEN(B2−1))&B2
If you want to expand this to a larger length, just add as many zeros as you want in the formula "0000000000" and change the 5 to however many zeroes you have between the "" in the formula.
If you want to add a constant number of zeroes (2 in my case) in front of the number, you could modify the formula to something like this:
=LEFT("00000",2))&B2
If you make it a formula, this would automatically turn the field format to show the leading zeroes, BUT..... you could still perform calculations on that field, which is a bonus!!!

Help with oracle listner after trying to change the hostaname on Fedora 9
After searching high and low on the internet for help with this error I am coming here for a little assistance with this issue. A week ago I tried to change the hostname of my machine and the connection to my Db stopped working.
When I type lsnrctl status I get the following messages
TNS-12537: Tns Connection closed
TNS-12560: Tns protocol adapter error
TNS-00507 Tns connection closed
Linux Erro: 29 Illegal seek
Then when I try to run netca I get a java vm error sigsev. Can anyone provide assistance.

I was working with numbers on the iPad where it closed unexpected. Now it will not open the doc, saying it can't open at this and it won't send to email or iworks. Is there any way I can get my doc back.
only if you have it backed up to the itunes folder. I have gotten into the habit of "sending to iTunes" for backups. This moves a copy to another folder that iTunes sees. And if I lose my original working cpoy, I can "import from itunes" and at least have on ly lost limited. Funny that since I started doing that, I havent had a crash that corrupted a doc yet.

I want to public thank you for sharing your Applescript: InsertQuotes from 2009 that works with Numbers.
I've successfully modified and simplified it for my purposes to be able to retrieve and set values for a portfolio of U.S. mutual funds that are our investments. I have a spreadsheet that started out years ago as an Excel spreadsheet on Windows XP and used Microsoft's ability to retrieve information from the web from finance.yahoo.com and place it in Excel spreadsheet cells.
I converted that spreadsheet to Google spreadsheet using their GoogleFinance function. It proved to be unreliable intermittently and now I've taken that spreadsheet into Numbers '09 and used your script, modified to use my portfolio's list of symbols and to put just the prices into a quotes sheet. For each account I track in my Numbers spreadsheet I use the table Lookup function to search the quotes sheet for a specific symbol and have the function return the associate price.
Following your instructions I put the Applescript in the ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Numbers/ and after opening my Numbers spreadsheet, with one mouse click in the System wide Scripts menu, execute the script which accesses finance.yahoo.com and sets the latest prices into my quotes sheet.

TB local folder names repeat, with ";001", ";002" , etc., suffixes.
For the past 7-10 days (or so), some subfolder names in my Local Folders area are being repeated, with " ;001 " , " .002" suffixes—e.g., Incoming;001 , Incoming;002 , Outgoing;001 , Outgoing;002, Trash;001 , Trash;002. These folders are always empty. They can be deleted...but when TB is started the next time, they reappear. Compacting doesn't appear to have any effect on this, and the same faux folders appear when accessing the TB account via another PC.
Am using TB 31.2.0 under the aegis of Win7 32-bit.
Any wisdom or advice?

The solution was to put Thunderbird in off-line mode, open the various mailboxes in the appropriate Profile (via Windows Explorer), and delete the unwanted items manually. There were literally ''hundreds'' of them! On closing and restarting Thunderbird, the mailboxes were clear.
Have no absolute knowledge of how these faux entries came about, but I learned in my software development days that Martians unequivocally have the ability to corrupt computer files at interplanetary distances. I'm blaming Martians for this one.

Help with numbering lists in Indesign CS5.5 for epub file
I am working with a book in Indesign CS5.5 to export it as an epub file. I have been working on formatting the text and I have run into a small problem. Throughout the book there are multiple lists within the texts that need to be numbered. Each list, however, must start over at number 1 and not be continued on from the previous list. The lists are all unrelated and I need them to be completely separate. I used "Type", "Bullets and Numbering", then "Apply Numbering" to begin with. This had each list in the correct order. However, I also created a paragraph style with the correct font, size, indentation, and spacing that must be applied to all the lists before exporting. When I do this, everything keeps its correct formatting except that some of the lists continue their numbering from the previous list. For example, on page 1 I might have a list of four things all formatted correctly and number 1 through 4. On page 3, I have another list, of completely unrelated items. I therefore would like this list to be started over at number 1, but when I apply the paragraph style to it, it starts at 5, picking up where the last list left off. I need to keep these as the assigned paragraph style but it messes up the numbering. If anyone could help me figure out how to keep this from happening I would greatly appreciate it!
If you don't mind cracking open the ePub and editing template.css, then adding rules like:
h2 {
page-break-before: always;
should force each paragraph whose style is mapped to an h2 tag on to a new page. Whether or not it works will depend on how good the ePub reader is at implementing CSS. It seems to work for Digital Editions and also Kindle, if you convert ePub to Kindle format.
This doesn't help at all if you are trying to force sections into separate XHTML files, though. -
Need help with x-fi / adobe audition monitoring / input issue
Hi all - I've been desperately trying to fix this issue for a long time now. This is the first computer problem that has really got me stumped since, well, since forever. I've searched all over and seen a few tidbits about this issue but I couldn't find anything that could help me actually solve my problem.
The issue is that when I record in audition through the x-fi, as I record a second separate track, whatever I'm monitoring from any other tracks gets recorded onto the second track along with the new recording.
I've found threads saying it's an issue with the mixer, however I'm trying to figure out the audio creation mode in the console launcher and I am absolutely unable to figure out how to be able to monitor track 1 while not having it get recorded to track two. I went through basically each strip and muted/unmuted to see what would happen and nothing ever worked. I also know that it indeed is recording the monitor, as overlaid (not printed) effects are copied to the new track.
I'm using vista, with the following drivers for the x-fi and asio4all.

THANKSThis may not help, because I've not used ASIO personally, and I'm not as sure of the SBX-Fi's internals, but CL has tended to design cards which have recording taps at each input and at the output of the card. Thus the hardware has supported (dry) recording of individual sources, unmixed, or the mixed output of the card. The Surround Mixer only provides for recording one source, and gives a menu of each source, plus a "What You Hear" source which is actually the (wet) mixed output. You probably only need to figure out how to set things to record a specific source while auditioning the mixed output, and there's probably a way to do that.

Need help with class I'm trying to write for school
Hi,I'm taking my first Java class, and we're learning how to write classes. I've got MOST of the program and class to work, but I'm still having trouble with it.
In the class I wrote, if I delete the "getWindTempF(strAlt)" the program runs fine, other than not doing the conversion to Fahrenheit. So, I'm guessing that there's a problem with my getWindTempF method. However, it is almost exactly a duplicate of my getWindTempC method, so I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. The errors I get when I keep the "getWindTempF(strAlt)" in the prtWindInfo method are:

However, I really don't think there's a problem with any of the coding there. The only times I have problems with the program is when I'm trying to display the data from getWindTempF. If I omit that method, the program works perfectly. Basically, what the program is supposed to do, is hand a string (FAA_FD) to the NWSFD class, which then extracts data from it. Here's the situation I live with my gf and roommate and we're trying to make a spreadsheet to track our finances. Here's what I'm currently having trouble making:
I have 3 types of entries Rent, Groceries and House. When a entry is added for the House catergory, I want the amount in the paid column to be divided by three with a third of it going into the Cam owing Kim (Cam -> Kim) cell and the Kar owing Kim (Kar->Kim) cell. (This is because when we buy stuff for the house we all use it and the cost should be divided evenly between the 3 of us)
When an entry is made for the Groceries catergory I want the amount paid column to be divided by two, with half going into the Cam owing Kim (Cam->Kim) cell. (This is because my gf and I buy groceries together and split the cost between the two of us)
When an entry is made for the Rent catergory I dont want any division to happen. (This is because we all pay the rent individually)
I'd greatly appreciate any help to make this work! I'd ideally like it to work this way, but I'm open to trying another way if it might be easier. Thanks in advance

It most likely is that you are seeing one spreadsheet (the proper term in Numbers is "table") spread over two pages, with the rightmost columns empty of any data. To confirm this, look to the left of the Numbers window, where it says "Sheets." Do you see more than one item under that heading that has a yellow box next to it? Most likely, you will see just one item like this. If so, you only have one table.
If not, you have more than one table & can probably just delete the second, empty one. This is easily done by clicking once on its little yellow icon, checking the print view to make sure that it is the one selected (it will have little squares at each corner & at each midpoint of its edges), & then pressing the delete key.
If you have only one table, confirm that it only has the number of rows & columns you expect: Click on any cell once. You should see an angular tab appear it the bottom right of the table. (Most likely, you will see the tab appear on the second page of your table.) Click & hold but do not drag on this tab. You should see a yellow box appear listing the number of rows & columns in the table.
If the column or row count isn't what you expect, you have extras that most likely are empty. You can delete them by hovering the pointer over the row or column label (at the top or left edge of the table, filled with letters or numbers) & clicking on the small triangle that appears. This drops down a menu with an option to delete the row or column.
I suggest you browse through the "Getting Started" booklet to become more familiar with the basic features of this & the other iWork applications. It should quickly become clear how to use them. -
Hello all and thanks in advance. I am trying to put in around 2000 dummy email addresses in numerical sequence such as 31 32 33 with the same @.com is it possible to tell numbers to go from a number or anything really @ and just have the numbers advance while keeping the @.com?
I know odd but I really would rather no type all that if possible.A formula like this one
=(30+ ROW()) & "@.com"
will do the trick.

I am trying to automate some share price data calculations from delimited text files I download from my online broker service. I am having trouble getting past first base.
I can open the files, delete columns and rows but something is wrong with my syntax for getting values from cells so I can perform some calculations and put the results back where I want them.
Here's my test script. It compiles and runs fine up to "set FirstCell to cell 1 of row 1" then it returns a try error.

I cannot open numbers. When I click to open the message says that, I need to update. When I go to updates is says I am updated. I keep going around and circles. Can anyone help?
Look in your Applications folder for the new version.
Remove the old icon from the Dock and drag down the new one for ease of use. -
Help with numbers saving as PDF
Hi all,
I have an excel spreadsheet which I have sent to new ipad and opened in numbers. Now I know it will not support all features but the numbers version is working fine for what I need. (Electrical installation certificates)
My problem comes when I save to a pdf (this is how certificates are sent to clients), when saving to PDF the spreadsheet saves fine to one page but I then have another 3 pages containing some empty cells?
If anyone could advise I would greatly appreciate, I could send a copy which may explain exactly what I mean.BD,
There were three blank sheet coming across in the PDF. It was a combination of two things.
1. The sheet is a little too wide for 1 page across. This was causing one of the blank pages. You can either shrink it a bit, or else use the option in Excel or Pages to auto-fit it to 1 page by 1 page. In Pages, you find this on the print preview screen, at the bottom right, just make sure Auto-Fit is on, that will shrink the document to fit on a page. In Excel, you can also choose "fit to x pages by x pages. On the Mac version, that option is on the ribbon, on the Layout tab. I'm not at work, so I can't verify where it's at on the Windows version of excel, but it's there as well. Once I clicked that on excel, it saved the doc to 94% size & it got rid of the one extra blank page.
2. The other two pages are showing up because you have the sheet you are using, but also Sheets 2 & 3 in that document. Pages has an option "Page Numbers" that is set to on. Not sure if that is by default or is just set that way for your document. Either way, it is causing Sheet 2 & 3 to print out blank, but with a page # in the footer. If you aren't using Sheets 2 & 3, just delete them, that will be the easiest solution. If you do plan to use them, then you need to go into Print preview on iPad Pages, then click the little gear & turn 'Page Numbers' Off. once I did that, it printed to PDF as 1 page, with no blank stuff at the end.

Default to Legacy Artboard when opening CS3 files in CS5
