Help with structure of scheduling application.
I am working on a web scheduling application, very similar to how Microsoft Outlook works.
We need to be able to set recurrence on various tasks and appointments.
What we are struggling with, is how exactly to structure the data. Does anyone know how this is usually done?
At first, we were just going to create individual entries into the database for each recurrence. But we quickly figure out that a task that runs every hour for 10 years amounts to over 87,000 entries. This does not scale well at all.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It really depends on what information you need.
If, for example, you needed to produce a December, 2004 calendar that showed what tasks were going to be executed at what time on what days, then there are two basic ways to approach that:
1. When you create a task, figure out all of the future times when it will be executed and store those in a database. That has the problem that you already identified, plus others (such as if you want to change a task from running every Monday at 8 am to running every Tuesday at 8 am, you've got a lot of database work to do).
2. You need to be able to ask a task about its future execution times in a given range. So your task object would just have recurrence information, and it would have a method that takes a start and end date and returns a list of times when the task is scheduled to run.
But if you don't need that, you just need to know the next time that each task is scheduled to run, then you seem to have a solution to that already.
The other decision you need to make is whether a task is mutable or not. For example, if I set up a task to run every Monday at 8 am, can I change that to run every Tuesday at 8 am? Or do I need to create a new task to do that, and delete the old one? And if I can change it, what happens to the job that's already scheduled for next Monday? Does that stay there, and all subsequent jobs run on Tuesdays, or does it get changed to run on next Tuesday too?

Need help with Resource Mapping from Application Deployment to VC:virtualMachine

I've built a number of vCO Workflows and hooked them up to Resource Actions in vRA. However, the Workflows I've built all take a VC:VirtualMachine as the input and therefore,they only "hookup" to VMs in the Machines list in the Items tab in vRA. Ideally, I want these actions to hookup to the Application Deployments in vRA since that is what my users are deploying - the VM that the App rides on is somewhat secondary. Plus, it's cumbersome for them to find the VM that corresponds to the App they want to run the action on.
So, I looked into creating a new Resource Mapping, thinking I could map an Application Deployment to a VC:VirtualMachine so that I could create an Action for the Application. I was able to create a mapping from Application Deployment to VC:VM using the Map to VC:VM existing workflow and I could add that to the Actions menu for the Application Deployment but if I try to run it, it fails. I kind of expected this since I think the Map to VC:VM is expecting an input of IaaS VC:VM to map to vCO VC:VM. I think what I need to do is write a Workflow that will take in the Application Deployment "object" and find the VC:VM inside it but I don't know how to find out the structure of an Application Deployment such that I could parse it and get the VM.

Help with port forwarding to application
Help needed to Port Forward on to my PS3.
I need to forward the following ports:
UDP: 3074; 3659; 6000
TCP: 80; 443; 3659; 10000 - 10099; 42127
Have previously given the PS3 a static IP, set the port forwarding rules and then forwarded to the IP address, but it appears the ports have not opened as expected.
Help KeithI can only see one image which just shows the application mapping, but no indication as to whether you had clicked the "apply" button.
Why are you forwarding ports 80 and 443, are you running a webserver on the PS3, as those ports are used for web serving.
As a matter of interest, your port 80 is showing as open at the moment, so is the PS3 turned on, or is port 80 mapped to something else instead?
What I would like you to do is to start from the beginning, with just the single TCP port number 3659 assigned to the PS3.
It will mean removing the other assignments, but it will make things a bit easier.
If you could do that please, and then we can do some tests.

ok i have a issue when i install adobe after effects cc it comes up with cant start trial application manager is damaged or corrupted and i downloaded adobe aplication manger 8 and it gives me this error

Please help with developing a simple application
I have small reference book that is falling apart, that I can no longer get a copy of, and would like to get it put onto my iphone. It's a book I use often.
I just want to be able to put in a number or title name and have the app find the text. I'm prepared to enter all the text, but have no idea where to go from there. It's only for mine and my brother's use, so not worth paying for it to be done.

Urgent need of help with a java WSDL application

I'm trying to turn a WORKING java application which uses some webservices, into a JAR file.

As a new PHP/SQL developer I have found great technical assistance from both this forum and from David Powers and his wonderful books. I am at a crucial point in my web development and although I believe I know which direction I need to go, I am still uncertain and so I appeal to you all for your help, especially David Powers.
The website I am building is one which will house many photo galleries. I was able to successfully modify the code provided in David Powers’ book ‘php Solutions’ so that I got the photo galleries constructed and working in the manner I desired.
That being said, a person browsing my website will be presented with a link to see the photo galleries. There will be five (5) categories in which the photos will be separated, all based on specific styles. Now that I have the galleries working, I need to know how to structure things so that I can create a page, like a TOC (table o’ contents) that shows all photo galleries by displaying a thumbnail image or two along with the description. Perhaps I’ll limit the TOC page to only show the latest 25 galleries, arranged with the most current always on top.
The way I have my galleries set up, I have a separate database for each one, containing the photo filenames and other relevant data. To build my TOC structure, should I have an overall database that contains each gallery database filename along with category? This is where I have no idea what I’m doing so if my question sounds vague, please understand I have no other idea how to ask.
The site will grow to the point of having hundreds, if not thousands of photo galleries. I simply want to know how to (organize them) or otherwise allow me to build a method to display them in a TOC page or pages.
I know this is a bit dodgy, but with some info and questions back from you, I feel confident that I should be able to get my point across.
Lastly, I am still developing this site locally, so I have no links to provide (though I feel that shouldn’t be necessary right now).

I'm chewing this over in my head, reading up on DB's in 'phpSolutions' and I think that things are slowly materializing.
Here is the structure of the website that I have planned:
MAIN PAGE
User is presented with a link on the main page to select photo galleries (other links are also present). Clicking the link takes them to the Category Page.
CATEGORY PAGE
On this page, the User will then have 5 choices based on categories (photo style). CLicking any of these 5 links will take them to respective TOC pages.
TOC PAGE
On this page, the user is greeted with a vertical list of galleries or photosets; one to three thumbs on the left, a small block of descriptive text on the right (ideally containing date/time info to show how recent the gallery is). Newest galleries appear at the top. Eventually, when there are tens or hundreds of galleries in any given catrgory, I'll need to adopt a method for breaking up the qualntity in groups (we can pick 20 for example) that can be scrolled through using a small navbar. This will keep the TOC Pages from getting endlessly long and avoid endless scrolling. User selects a gallery on this page to view.
THUMBNAIL PAGE
On choosing a gallery, a thumbnail page is generated (I have this working already)
IMAGE PAGE
On selecting any thumbnail in the grid, the user is taken to the full-sized photo with a navbar and photo counter at the top. Navlinks allow forward and back, a link to the first image, a link to the last image and one link back to the thumbnail page. (I have this working already).
I provide this info in an effort to help understand the basic structure of my site. The description above is as close to a step-by-step illustration as possible.

I need to process a tab delimited list and I'm able to put the data into an array. See the image of the array below:
Now that the list is separated into 5 array elements, each element is a list by itself.
How can I create a structure for the list within each array element so I will have an Array with 5 element and each element contain a structure with keys and values???
To create the above array I simply use :

Well "somePartOf(myArray[i])" was vague, because I had no idea how you wanted to parse up your data into a structure. The previous post gives some idea how you want to parse it up, but there are still chalanges you will have to work out because it is your data. You could easily treat the value as a space delimited list, but you do not seem to have a one to one relationship between space separated values and your desired structure keys. You will have to work out the business rules that turns that data into the structure you desire. There is no magic "Make My Random Data into a Structure" function.
These would apply to the first two keys you described, but I have no idea how the rest of the data parses out.

Help with speeding up Hadoop application with Jrockit vm

This is Grace. I am using JRockit JVM to run some Hadoop tests. In the test, there are many short time(within 1 minute) processes running. Comparing with the Sun JVM (with -Xmx option only), the test is completed much more slowly by Jrockit JVM. I have already tried to adjust some of the Jrockit basic options, such as –Xmx, -XXaggressive and etc. But there is no big difference. Have anyone seen this problem before? And does anyone can offer some advices about optimization or tuning? Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Here is some basic information of the testing environment:
OS: Redhat 5.3 x86_64
Sun vm version is 1.6.0_11 (64bits), Jrockit vm version is 3.1.0-1.6.0(64bits)
Regards, GraceMost of your objects are large and goes to the old space. When you are running with a nursery all large objects are allocated in the old space. (An object larger than 2k is typically considered large). This will result in a lot of GC of the old space. I guess that this is causing a lof of memCopyBlock() which is the performance blocker.
So, I have a few suggestions:
* Always set initial heap size equal to maximum heap size. -Xms=Xmx (1024m in your case) Set the maximal heap size as large as possible (without resulting in page faults).
* With such high amount of large objects you could profit a static GC, for example -Xgc:singlepar (or -Xgc:genpar with a very small nursery).
* If the large objects in your application live shortly then you may still profit from using a nursery.
** Set GC strategy to -Xgc:genpar (or -Xgc:gencon) to get a nursery.
** You will also need to modify the threshold for large objects by setting: -XXlargeObjectLimit="a limit, a little larger than the size of your objects".
** Tune nursery size. You will probably have to test a few nursery sizes before you find the best suited nursery size
** I see that you tune TLA. TLA tuning is preferably combined with tuning the large object limit for example: -XXtlasize:min=4k, preferred=128k - XXlargeObjectLimit=4k
I would not use -XXaggressive if it does not give you performance improvements. The same for LazyUnlcoking - it gives a performance boost for some applications, but not all.

Help with updating and Adobe Application Manager (Max OS X)

I am a resent new customer of the cloud (student and teachers) service. I have started encounter some minor but kind of annoying technical problems. Before I registered for a cloud account I was running the Adobe Master Collection (trial) version on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.2). I successfully completed the registration to cloud and began to download and updated the app's. It went fine, until I came across a small little problem with Premier Pro. I was trying to import a few *.MOV files for a uni video that I have to do over Xmas.
Instead of spending time trying to figure out the problem I decide to uninstall and download/install all of the app on the my cloud hub, just incase it was something to so with my pervious installations. I couldn't directly re-download the apps via the cloud hub, so I had to re-download another trial version. However, now I can not get the Adobe Application Manager to work, I keep saying "Download Error, Please try again" I have tried it load of time, but keep getting the same message.

DamienMoshpit84 did you utilize the uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers to remove your installation of Premiere Pro? Also what version of the Adobe Application Manager are you currently using?

Please help with structure of my program
I am hoping someone can help me with a motor control program that I am
writing. The program is too large to post here, but I attached a
rough outline of the program. I think the problem is with the
higher level logic, so hopefully that will provide the necessary
information.
I have a front panel with lots of buttons to control the motors (eg:
power, stop, start). There is an event structure that contains
most of those buttons (power, start, etc), but if that structure is
exectuting, the other buttons won't work. I need to be able to
stop the motors and exit at any time (for safety), so I made another
event structure that contains the stop and exit buttons. Is this
the right way to do this?
Also, I want all the loops in the program to run continually until the
exit button is pressed. Since the exit button actually calls
exit.vi and closes the whole program, I just wired a F constant to the
stop on the while loops so they never stop. Could this be causing
my problems?
Hopefully I provided enough information here, but if not, please write back and let me know.

PS. In case anyone wonders why the whole thing is in a sequence, I need
it for other aspects of the program (safety lights, etc...). I

Since they are in separate parallel loops, I would think there would not be a problem. I like the idea that the program can be stopped in the middle of an event, for safety reasons. Great structure, Kasey. The only thing I would add is to make sure that your exit vi gracefully shuts down the program. Like if files or references are open, they get closed before terminating the vi. Just be on the look out for race conditions since you have 3 events that can happen at one time. One event might affect some indicator that is being handled by another event. Also, instead of wiring a false to the other loops, maybe you could use local variables of one general stop boolean. Since your exit vi stops all execution, it may not make much of a difference.

Need help with simple file sharing application
I have an assignment to build a Java File Sharing application. Since I'm relatively new to programming, this is not gonna be an easy task for me.
Therefore I was wondering if there are people willing to help me in the next few days. I will ask questions in this thread, there will be loads of them.
I already have something done but I'm not nearly halfway finished.
Is there a code example of a simple file sharing application somewhere? I didn't manage to find it.
More-less, this is what it needs to contain:
-client/server communication (almost over)
-file sending (upload, download)
-file search function (almost over)
-GUI of an application.
GUI is something I will do at the end, hopefully.

The user logs in with his nickname and ip address. He defines his own shared folder and makes it available for other users that log on to server.
Now each user has their own list of files from a shared folder. It's an ArrayList.
User manager class is there to store another list, a list of users that are connected with server.
When the user is searching for a particular file, he is searching through all the users and their respective files lists. Therefore for each loop inside a for each loop.
Now the problem is how to connect all that with Client and Server class and put it into one piece.

the philosophy used for application design and development on mobile devices differes from desktop design and development. And using the Java ME has some specifics and limitations. You have basicly 3 options to develop your applications:
1) use high level API screens - List/Form - in this case the application will look differently on every device and usually not too good and you can't control formatting of the output, but the development is very fast and easy
2) use existing graphical libraries - like LWUIT - good choice for many applications (but games), gives you rich API (in relation to the native List/Form) with good results - it's only slightly more complicated and the result is significantly better
3) build your own UI on Canvas - you can display whatever you want... but you must fully implement it
Every next option needs more effort but gives you more freedom in application design and development.
I know that I didin't answer exactly what you asked for, but I'm sure that this answer makes more sense...

you could write additional report based on ALV tree. So you would have the stucture which you want to have and on value request call your custom program. i doubt that there is FM or class which could generate search help tree. So basically you have to write your own logic. Or you could use GuiXt tool. Example and tutorial.
