  • How much Memory Should my IMac have?  iMac, 24-inch, Intel Core 2 Duo

Hi, I have a problem. I have a iMac, 24-inch, Intel Core 2 Duo which had to have a hard drive replaced. Brought it home today and it is not the same? It makes weird noises when processing info and it seems to run slower. I noticed that the memory is only 1GB and this model should have 2 or something along those lines? It seems as though they didn't replace this with what I had on my original one? Can anyone help me, let me know how to verify that I am lacking what I had on this machine when I bought it and what should this model have on it? I am so ****** off right now, it isn't funny!
Also, I can't go into my Iphoto and make any of my pictures a desktop image. That leads me to believe it is a low memory issue. Right?

What imac do you have how old is it. The 2.4ghz 20inch model still comes with 1gb as standard in the uk anyway. most intel imac including mine are totally silent, is it overheating download a great widget called istat pro at http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html this will show you your fan and temp etc. If it in warranty then take it back to apple or phone them with the machine serial number and they will inform you to what spec the imac was shipped to you. The desktop image problem - go-to system preferences then to desktop and screen saver you will find all your iphoto folder and events in the right hand side just click on your image this should work.

  • 7 angles (cameras) edit - is it possible for iMac 3,06 Intel Core Duo?

    or i want too much?
Hi there! I have 7 tracks of ProRes HQ 1920 X 1080 50i to perform a multitrack edit. Problem is - doesn't show a realtime preview, so i can't choose a proper track
Is it possible with my iMac 3,06 Intel Core Duo, 2 Gigs of RAM, + strip 1TB raid? I guess i'm in lack of memory If i increase the amount of RAM to, lets say, 8 Gigs - would it solve a problem?
If not - is there a way of some low resolution editing? Thanks

ProRes HQ, certainly not. Definitely not over Firewire and almost certainly not over even the internal drive (not that you'd want media on your system drive anyways). Yes for low-res editing, it's called offline editing. Someone else will probably have a lint for you to Kenstone or Creative Cow to easily tell you what to do, but when I did it for me, I went from DVCPro HD to DV NTSC. As long as you export the correct timecode, you should be set to then edit in that offline format's sequence then Media Manage back to the full-quality files.
    Hope this helps,

  • I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Want to upgrade to Lion to take advantage of icloud. Is there anything I can do without getting a new MacPro?

I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?

I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly.  There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS.  There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement.  If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism:  Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality.  Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.
    Ciao.

  • What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

As your Mac should run Snow Leopard provided it has at least 1GB memory, that would be a good deal easier and very much cheaper than trying to find a 10.5 install disc.
Snow Leopard costs $30 approx from the online Apple store (£26 if you're in UK)
You'll need to update Tiger to 10.4.11 with the combo installer first (unless you're just erasing the disc and starting fresh) You can then update SL from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 with its combo installer.
For comparison, 10.5 Leopard is currently running about $130 from Apple (if still available) and more on Amazon etc.

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

    My bad?
You're original response was questions/post  about an iMac. Now you've edited it to ask about a Mac Pro?
You can more easily add internal drives in a Mac Pro.
Not too terribly easy to add/replace drives in an iMac.
If younhave questions about a Mac Pro, try posting in the Mac Pro forums.
    Much more knowledgeable users there.

  • My iMac has an Intel Core Duo processor, what can be done to upgrade to Lion?

my IMac has an Intel Core Duo processor.  What can be done it to allow me to upgrade to Lion?

Got 2GB of RAM and 7GB of disk space as well?
Got current BACKUPs in case something goes horribly wrong?
If so, upgrade/update to 10.6.6 or later and The App Store icon appears. For US$29.99, you can download Lion.
If you fear you will need a DVD of it, you must make one after downloading and BEFORE you install, as the image is consumed during the Install, and not available afterward.

  • I have a Mac OS X v10.4.11 i need a upgrade i was wondering if i could upgrade to a snow leopard v10.6 or do i have to get leopard v10.5????

i have a Mac OS X v10.4.11 i need a upgrade i was wondering if i could upgrade to a snow leopard v10.6 or do i have to get leopard v10.5????

If you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard or Lion. The amount of RAM you need may limit what you can do. Leopard requires 512 MBs; Snow Leopard requires 1 GB; and Lion requires 2 GBs.
If you have a G4 or G5 Mac then you are limited to Leopard 10.5.8. In addition to the memory requirement your CPU must be at least 867 MHz.
    Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
    a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Will 1.86ghz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini run the IPhone SDK?

I kinda asked this as a follow up in another thread. But I really should have asked it in a separate thread here.
Will a 1.86ghz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini run the IPhone SDK?
Additionally, it comes with 10.4 and IPhone needs 10.5.4 or better. Can I download and upgrade to 10.5.4 free from Apple or will I have to purchase the upgrade?
    Jerry

The hardware is more than sufficient. You will have to buy 10.5 (Apple does not have upgrade pricing).
