Hi, i'm new in lab view. i'm using 3'rd party daq card to get data using labview

i'm still green in this field. can anybody help me on how to get various data from daq card(not an ni brand) using my labview programming. i use labview 6 and i don't know how to get the data so i can display it in my programming. i used Pcl 1800 and pcl 836 card of advantech brand.

It appears that Advantech has a LabVIEW driver available. Below is a link to information about the driver on their Web Site. I would suggest trying this option, as opposed to using the Call Library Function with Advantech's driver DLLs:

Completely new to lab view and need to get some stop watch help please

OK I am new to lab view so please be patient with me. I have a need for a stop watch that is triggered to start when two voltage values differ by more than 0.110V and then stop counting when they return to within 0.110v my goal is to capture the total amount of time the two voltages differ and record it along with the rest of the data is this possible and how would I do it? For starters, try to write the name correctly. It is LabVIEW, not lab view.
Seriously though, your best way of learning to is try some things yourself first. Look through the examples that ship with LabVIEW for the components Raven suggested (while loops, shift registers, etc.) We could give you a working example but you will learn far more by trying things for yourself. As suggested, try a few things and then post what you have done and what you are having trouble with. From there we can answer your questions rather than just do it for you.

Hello! Pls can anyone help. I am new to Lab view, having three(3) input variable entering a tank at the same time, but they not mixed?

Abul, I would recommend posting in that other thread to follow up on your issues from before. Also your problem is not very clear. You may want to expand some more on what your issue, and a post a screen shot or a VI.

Dc input offset voltage, bias current using lab view

hi all
my lecture has asked me to write a lab vbiew program that can measure the 741 operational amplifer dc input offset volage, its bias current. i totally do not have an ideal how to do this because i am new to lab view programming.
i have design the hardware and connected to using the ni elvis instrument, but i do not know how to write a lab view program that can help me take these. readings without been done manually using and oscilloscope.
please help guys

Video freezing up while running Lab View 10

I am using Lab View 10. My video will freeze up every so often. Somtimes labview will abort by itself? I can run other applications while lab view is frozen. Is it a lab view programming problem or a possible video card problem. The main VI is 1.7 MB. I am running Windows Xp 32 bit. CPU 2.4 Gig, Memory 4 gig, Video Nvidea GeForce 8400 GS. It appears to be a video refresh problem. I can have a screen with two different application screens on top of each other. Can someone confirm that the video card is the issure?
Any suggestions would be helpfull.

I'm having trouble understanding the exact behavior of 'Video' on your system. Are you having trouble displaying specific VIs? (Controls/Indicators, Updates on the Front Panel, Etc) Are you seeing generalized glitches only when running LabVIEW? If you can provide further detail on the behavior, it will be very helpful in providing meaningful troubleshooting steps of the system.

Getting error messages upon startup after installing Lab View 5.1.1.

I have recently purchased a DAQ system along with a computer, which uses a readout program written in Lab View. however, after installing Lab View 5.1.1 on this same system, I started getting some error messages and the readout program no longer works. Here are the error messages:
"The \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\nidmmk.dll device driver could not locate the entry point ?single PointWrite@mdsSimpleDIGPortPrimitive@@UAEXKKKAAJ@Z in driver Nidaq32K.sys"
as well as
"The ordinal 2011 could not be located in the dynamic link library nidaq32.dll. An error occurred while loading VT Digital buffer write.vi"
I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Installing LabVIEW should not effect an installation of NI-DAQ. However, it seems to me that we may have installed a different version of NI-DAQ on top of the current version. This is very possible because the old LabVIEW CD�s contain NI-DAQ on them.
In this case, there is not an easy solution, we could try uninstalling and reinstalling combinations, but it will probably save the most time and effort to uninstall all National Instruments products and reinstall them. The best way to do so is from the ADD or REMOVE Programs utility from the Control Panel. Then we want to remove the following registry keys (BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY!!)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\National Instruments <-- Delete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\National Instruments <-- Delete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\ or \ISA and delete registry entries containing any keys with 1093 in them.
Do not worry if any of these trees are not listed. If you have Administrative rights, and you still cannot delete these keys, that is also OK. Continue with the remainder of the process.
Make sure that you do not have any of your own VIs or other files saved in the "C:\VXIpnp", "C:\Program Files\National Instruments", or "C:\WINDOWS\nidaq" folders. If you do, copy them to a different location. If you are concerned about keeping old virtual channels and your SCXI setup intact, then backup the "C:\WINDOWS\niconfig.daq" file, too. Delete all folders and files mentioned above.
Note: If you have Windows NT/2000, replace "C:\Windows" with "C:\WINNT" in the paths listed above.
Once these steps are taken care of, we should have clean system. You probably want to reboot and then reinstall the software. You should install development environments first, and then install drivers.
Just let us know if this does not take care of the problem, or if you have any questions on how to complete a step of the process.

Getting data from HD with cable to new Laptop

I was unable to fix my PB G3 firewire. I am now trying to use an ATA to usb cable to get data off of the PB HD. After attaching and plugging in, I don't hear the HD spinning and the new MacBook Pro will not recognize it. Does it need a power source? Is the HD dead or cable bad? It was spinning before I took it out. Would a HD enclosure work? Thanks for any help.

I can't recall...are you sure the HD was working the last time the Pismo(?) was run?

A few points in the tutorial:
-Firmware update: this relates to the USB chipset in the cable system; I have no idea how you would find out which chipset is being used and if there were an update available; I would disregard this.
-Reset NVRAM/PRAM: I would definitely try the reset with the USB HD disconnected.
-Since your MacBook is brand new, I doubt the other suggestions would help except USB Prober; I've never used it.
I have read of some MacBooks/MacBook Pros not supplying enough USB bus power to get the HD to mount; little you can do with your adapter cable. If nothing above works, I would definitely go with a FireWire HD enclosure, one with the Oxford 911 chipset. Here is one example:

Lab View crashing when creating new bound variable

Hi,
I have to connect to an OPC server from Lab view and have played around a bit with the OPC client options.
I would like to use shared variables as that seems like a handy way to access the needed variables. I have followed the instructions in http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7450 .
However when i use the create bound variables feature LabView crashes when i browse for OPC tags, step3 under "Create Shared Variables that Connect to the OPC Tags through the I/O Server". If i try to expand the node "OPC1" LabView crashes. I try to access the built in NI OPC server locally.
Also during this process LabView gives warning box saying "Configure OPC server to run with an identity of interactive user". we did try the the steps in http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371618G-01/lvdschelp/config_local_opc_serv/ . However the The interactive user button was disabled under NI OPC sever properties.
Is there something i have missed? Something that needs to be configured before going through that tutorial?
I run LabView 2011 on a 64 bit Win7P computer. The DSC module and the NI OPC Servers are installed and seem to work (when running the OPC examples ).

Thanks for the post, I have a few questions for you about this issue.
What versions of NI OPC Servers are you using?
Is the server hosted on your local machine or on a remote machine?
Are you able to successfully connect NI OPC Servers and NI OPC Quick Client?
Have you been successful in using OPC IO Servers in the past or has this issue occurred since you have started your application?
Can you consistently reproduce this crash?
You can try to work around this issue by using Network Items rather than Project Items when creating bound variables in the Create Bound Variables window. Please try this option and let me know if you have any additional information about your application that may be helpful in solving this issue. In addition, I have also included a link to a similar post. Hope this helps!

Create test sequence from lab view - add it to the .seq file

Hello All,
I have a query. consider an test sequence that has already stored in "Test.seq" format. let us say we have 5 test steps.
now is it possible to add a new test step to this existing test sequence using Lab VIEW. I mean if we enter a new test step this has to reflect in the existing test sequence "Test.seq". i.e in the "Test.seq" we must have 6 test steps.
If this is possible let me know how this can be done.

Versions of lab view

By putting just in the search field, the main folder name???
And I want to copy each of these serial1.txt, to different paths???
So in this days, i ve working and the file is ready, but this archive just search like this: main directory /2nd directory/ 3rd directory/Files.... I mean if the files is deeper in more subdirectorys, does not work well works for me.
Im working in lab view 8.5 but, when i tried to put the .exe file in the computers where i have to look for my files, sorprise!!! the computers have the version 7 express or somethig like that so i cant use my file. IT Is possible change the version of my file to version 7?????

I don't know if you are still asking the same question in this thread or not. If you are, don't start a new thread.
As far as the exe, all you have to do is install the 8.5 run-time engine on the other PCs. If you had created an installer (something you should always do), the run-time would have been included.

Installation of Lab view 8.20, DAQ Assistant has disappeared & Instrument I/O Assistant cant be used

After upgrading to Lab view 8.20 and on a 8.20 new install I
notes’ that
DAQ Assistant has disappeared from the tool pallet completely.
Also that Instrument I/O Assistant cant be used or
configured and produces an error
“NI Measurement & Automation Explorer or the Instrument
I/O Assistant is not correctly installed. Please install these from the Driver
CD”
I have checked both of these and all parts are fully installed
and I cant fined what part of the Full version of Labview would course this
problem.
Would a completely new installation with default settings
clear the problem, what has coursed these tools to be not avalible.

You need to load on the Drivers for DAQmx, if you have a CD you can load them on from there otherwise the link to download NIDAQmx 8.3 is:

There is a order in which you must load things on for everything to work correctly,
LabVIEW --->> Modules & Toolkits --->> Drivers

Lab View is not detecting two com ports of system

In my PC, three com ports are there COM1, COM4 and COM6. But when we create new visa resource name, lab view is detecting only COM1 port. I want to know is there any way to correct this.

Hi,
First of all check if the ports are visible in the NI MAX. If not, you can try to Create New Port by going into Measuremenmt & Automation Explorer. Assign the Port values accordingly. This can be done by right clicking on the Ports (Serial & Parallel) section of the Devices and Interfaces tree.

Why does Lab View add control elements to some driver VI's!

I have downloaded a driver project that was developed with Lab View 2009sp1. Now I will this project use with LV2010.
To do this I have the library installed in instr.lib. But when I opened some VI's I discovered that Lab View have added control elements.
Why is it so and how can I stop this behaviour?

Surely that didnt just happen because you saved it in 2010. You downloaded a new set of drivers for 2010 from here: http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.download_page?p_id_guid=AFAA2CBD85041C96E04400144F1EF8...
The second driver has more features.
Also, note that the two modes are different, in the second case you are specifying the current where as the first one is a constant current configuration for the load.
