Hi problem in Input stream - Junk character

Hi
We are developing a application in which a java servlet reads a request from a xls file
The request is sent from a macro written in excel file.
The request sends a xml file content in byte form.
This we read in the servlet as a datainputstream.
While printing we encounter a problem
After every valid character a junk character is also getting printed(it is in form of a square).
example
< (junk) x (junk) m (junk).............
Can somebody help how to solve this
Thanks
Ottran

Sounds to me like the XML is being encoded in some version of UTF-16, but you're ignoring that and acting as if it's in some single-byte encoding. I would certainly question the use of DataInputStream to read it, as that class has assumptions built into it which you could easily misuse.
And "printing" is a term that could use a whole lot of clarification, especially in the context of a Web application.

  • Problem reading input stream of urlconnection within portal

    Hi,
    This may be a generic server issue rather than portal but since it's my portal app that's displaying the problem I'll post it here.
    Part of my Portal attempts to POST to a remote server to retrieve some search results.
    In environments A & B (both standalone instances) this works fine.
    In environment C this works on the managed instances in the cluster but not the admin instance.
    In environment D (again standalone) it fails, but if I add a managed instance it works from the managed instance.
    The problem I'm seeing is that I get a stuck thread and the thread dump shows it is blocked attempting to read the resulting input from a urlconnection. (Using a buffered input stream).
    I've copied the code to a standalone class that runs fine from the same server(s). I've pasted this code below, the contents of the test() method were copied directly from my webapp (urls changed here for clarity).
    Does anyone know of any securitymanager issues that may cause this?
    Or anything else for that matter?

    In your recuperar() method, read the FTP input stream into a byte array. (You can do that by copying it to a ByteArrayOutputStream and then getting the byte array from that object.) Then, return a ByteArrayInputStream based on those bytes. After you call completePendingCommand(), of course.
    That's one way.

  • Strange problem creating input stream in Java 1.4

    I need to create an InputStream from a file that is in the same directory as the class App. But this code (in App)
    File file = new File(App.class.getResource("filename").getFile());
    InputStream is = new InputStream(file);
    throws this exception:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: c:\my%20programs\filename (The system can not find the file specified)
    The exception is only thrown in jdk1.4. In jdk1.3 everything works perfectly(as it should). What seems to happen is that the space in the directory name "my programs" is turned into "%20". This problem doesn't arise if directory names in the file path don't contain spaces or if I use the File(String) constructor.
    Can someone, please, explain this anomaly or, at least, how I can get an InputStream in this situation without using the Class.getResource().getFile() call.

    Did you try
    InputStream is = new InputStream(file.getCanonicalPath ());
    instead of
    InputStream is = new InputStream(file);
    It might work.

  • Problem with SQL Convert Function Junk Character

    Hi All,
    We have a database field that has a value of “2.020 OPERATOE’S CAB – GLASSES” on the front end of Oracle E-Business Suite. When we are spooling that column(in PLSQL) with the SQL covert function , one of the characters(’) in the string is not getting converted properly. It is displayed as a junk character in the spooled file.
    We used CONVERT(p_column,'WE8ISO8859P1','UTF8') for converting the string and utl_file api for spooling the output file. Please note that converted string is passed to utl_file.fopen directly.
    Following are the nls_parameters values.
    NLS_CHARACTERSET ~~ UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET ~~ AL16UTF16
    Any inputs are welcome.
    Thanks

    Hello All,
    Sorry, If I am opening the blog in the wrong place as this is the first time.
    my out looks as follows.
    "02920  "
    but when i see in the application there is nuthing in the end.
    so I used regexp_replace(p_vendor_dtl,'[^[!-~]]*',''), But this is removing spaces also. I don't want to remove space. I want to remove this character only.
    Please help
    Thanks.

  • Problem reading image from input Stream

    I'm having a problem reading an image through an input stream. It gives me the error
    Premature end of JPEG file
    sun.awt.image.ImageFormatException: JPEG datastream contains no imageand my code looks like
    public Image getImage(String name, String command){
              if(command.equals(pCode)){
                   Image image=null;
                   System.out.println(name);
                   InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream(name);
                   BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(is);
                    byte[] byBuf =new byte[10000];
                     try {
                        int byteRead = bis.read(byBuf,0,10000);
                   } catch (IOException e) {
                        // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                        e.printStackTrace();
                     image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(byBuf);
                   return image;
              return null;
         }And the string name looks when printed is: usr/images/PRLogo.jpg

    If the image is bigger than 10K, this code will break.
    You can pass an InputStream to javax.imageio.ImageIO.read. That's probably an easier option than trying to do the buffering yourself.

  • I have a problem in using input stream in ftp

    Hi dear members,
    i have a problem. i am using below code to have inputstream of the file. f is directory and osconfigscript[q] is a file, which is already existing.
    InputStream is = new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(new File(f,osconfigscript[q])));
    Later on i am using this input stream to ftp it .
    ftp.setFileType(FTP.BINARY_FILE_TYPE
    ftp.storeFile(osconfigscript[q],is) ;
    But the content i am getting in the ftp server is not same as i have sent.
    though the file name and it's remain same. the content become unreadable. the ftp class that i have used is
    "org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient".
    what should i do to make my content readable in the ftp server.

    I found the answer myself. Actually i was doing hot deployment in my jboss server (through eclipse jboss plug-in) . This was cause of the error .i have done the cold deployment now it is working.
    Hot deployment is works better in the JDeveloper then in eclipse - jBoss combo.
    no i have not used inputstream stream between its creation and passing it into the ftp method.

  • Problem in inputting other language characters

    Hello,
    We have a problem in displaying Canadian French character in SAP Script layout. First I installed the French (Canada) - FR as input language from Control Panel and applied the language bar tool settings. Then logged into the develpoment server with FR as login language. Entered the Canada French text in a Notepad first and copied it from the notepad to SAP Script layout. Once i enter the text and save it, it says "The input field contains prohibited characters (already deleted)". And one of the character in the word is getting deleted and getting replaced by a junk character. The following is the Canadian French word which i was trying to copy and paste in SAP script layout:
    main-d'œuvre
    The SAP script layout is not recognizing the character 'œ' in the above word. It says this character is a prohibited character.
    I dont have any issue in inputting all other Canadian French alphabets/characters other than the above one particular character.
    Earlier I had worked on inputting different character sets like Japanese, Korean etc. and followed the same procedure to enter/input the other language text and had never faced this problem.

    Hi Sairam,
    I already tried using Text id created in SO10 for this purpose and there also i'm getting the same problem. Before i could save, the prohibited characters are deleted and replaced by junk characters.
    Thanks,
    Hema.

  • ECC6.0 - PDF issue - Junk Character output after Upgrade from 4.7c

    Hi All,
    I am working in Uprgade project(from 4.7c Non-unicode system to ECC6.0 unicode system).
    We are facing PDF output issue in ECC6.0 that means we are getting junk character output(screenshot is attached for your reference).
    In 4.7c , we have stroed the OTF data in table after generated from smartform as we should not get different output in future. Whenever we need output of the same then we are getting the OTF data from that table and we will generate pdf through "Convert_otf" function module.This logic is working fine in 4.7c.
    In ECC6.0 ,the same logic is not working as system is unicode sytem and we are getting junk character output.
    As per my old upgrade project experience , i have used the below piece of code for solve this junk character issue but still I am facing the same issue.
    Kindly note that in my old upgrade project i have regenerated the OTF data in ECC6.0 and used the below piece of code then I got correct output but here I have to use the old OTF data (from table) which was generated in 4.7c.
    Please any one can give solution for this issue.

    Hi,
    as you can see in SAP notes 842767 and 1349413, spool data cannot be converted properly for all types in a Unicode conversion.
    This might be possible if you have English (US7ASCII) characters only, but with Chinese characters I do not think that a small piece of code can do it ...
    Hence I think you need to recreate the data on the Unicode system ...
    Best regards,

    Hi,
    Don't know which of this factors solved the problem:
    1. Error server:
    AIX 5.2
    jdk 1.3.17 (minimum from docu: 1.3.11)
    $ORACLE_HOME wasn't in the begining of $PATH
    2. success server:
    AIX 5.3
    jdk 1.4.02
    $ORACLE_HOME is now in the begining of $PATH

  • SocketException during reads - JVM_recv in socket input stream read

    I am getting a SocketException when a Java applet talks to our
    WebLogic 7.0 server. The catch is that it only occurs at one site
    (that has very high T1 utilization, although latency is only ~60 ms)
    Our setup is such that the calls hit an Alteon load balancer, which
    then sends the request out to one of 4 IIS clustered servers, where it
    then is sent to one of 2 WL clustered servers. I figured latency
    would be the cause, but on IIS and on WL, the timeouts are set to
    several hundred seconds, so I am not quite seeing where the connection
    is being reset. To be honest, I really don't know if it is WL that is
    killing the connection, as nothing abnormal shows up in the WL log. I
    have seen similar problems in this group, though, although the stack
    traces never follow the same path mine does. I do have the following
    call stack from the Java plug-in console, though. Any ideas would be

    I'm getting the exception on the client, which is an XP machine, while
    the server is Win2K. I can't recall which, but either the applet or
    the server runs 1.3x while the other runs 1.4. I discounted that
    factor, though, as the problem only occurs on one site, which on all
    others it works fine.

    Exception is in the applet or on the server?
    Would one of those by any chance be running on W2K with JDK 131_01 orolder?

  • Sending Control-Z to Input Stream

    Hi everyone,
    I'm writing an interface to a command line program, and
    one of it's features is that it will accept "forms" through
    standard input. The default is that notepad will open
    when the command is typed, and you can edit the form
    through there.
    To accept the form through standard input, you have to
    send it the form, and then tell it the form is complete.
    This is done using the CTRL-Z keypress, at least when
    typing the form in with the keyboard.
    I need to do this with Java.
    There is another post which poses the same question at
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=1&thread=3050
    so I attempted that solution.. and that didn't work.
    I had the system print out the form as it was being written,
    and the form displayed properly, followed by what was
    supposed to be a CTRL-Z character, which appeared
    on screen (DOS Window) as an arrow pointing right.
    Here is the code constructing the form and adding what i've been told is "ctrl-z":
    new StringBuffer(form+System.getProperty("line.separator")).append(CTRL_Z).append(System.getProperty("line.separator")))CTRL_Z is defined as:
    public static final char CTRL_Z = 26;Does anyone have any other suggestions that might be able to help me?
    If you need more information/code provided, I can do so.
    Thanks for any help!
    Kefka.

    You can't actually send anything to an input stream. But let's suppose you have an output stream somewhere that is connected to the standard input of this command line program. Try sending a byte, not a character, that contains 26 to it (yes, ctrl-z is indeed 26). This has a better chance of working than the character idea, because Java is going to translate your character-26 from Unicode to bytes using your system's default encoding. And I can't predict what that might end up as. But it will leave the byte 26 alone and just send it... I hope. Can't guarantee this.

    My suggestion would be to run your code as a plain old Java application. Why use a servlet environment to test the problem? There's just too many things going on. So first see if it works the same way in a Java application. If it does, or if it doesn't, you then know where to go next.

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement to generate the Smartform output in PDF file. But when i am doing that i am getting the LOGO as Junk character in the PDF file. Can any one help me to resolve this issue?.
    Thanks,

    Yes check the spool and the output displayed correctly in the spool it means there is a problem when you convert OTF to PDF. Check that part of the code and try different options.
