Hidden Text Box

Hi,
I would like to know, whats the level of difference it makes using a hidden filed in a JSP and using a text filed having its display style as none i.e., virtually a hidden text filed.
That is what is the difference the following two code pieces produce?

With regards to user experience and displaying on the JSP page, practically none.
In javascript and the DOM they are two different things. So there would be a slight difference in the page's model. You could dynamically change the style on the textfield so that it was displayed, something you couldn't do with a hidden field.
Practically I think there is little difference of importance. But why tweak the standard textfield to make it hidden when the hidden field is there for you to use?
My opinion: use the proper tool for the proper job. <input type="hidden">

Can InDesign handle "hidden" text boxes?

I've been tasked with creating a Userguide Lab Manual with student exercises. The client wants content to be in three layers: 1) basic tasks listed, 2) accessible "hints" to complete tasks, 3) accessible step-by-step explanation to complete tasks. Levels 2 & 3 should be initially "hidden" text boxes that the student can access if needed.
Can InDesign handle this? I realize this is something HTML can handle ... but the client wants a e-PUB document, something portable, in the end.
Can you give me advice? I've looked and looked at many elements of InDesign. Often I see "hidden" elements must be converted to an image (button?); elements of Interactivity usually means video or animation... but I want editable text. In theory, we want to be able to develop ONE master, and then reveal (show) different layers ... and i the end publish three levels of Userguide Lab Manual.
Is this possible?

@Pinenuthunter – did you consider iBooks Author app (Mac OSX 10.7 and above) for this task and publishing in ibooks file format to the iBooks app on iPads or to iBooks app in OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)?

Show text box from one combo box selection

Total newb here and need help. I tried searching for a javascript to copy/paste, but without any luck. I am using Acrobat Pro 9.2.0. If you could help me out with the javascript or with directions on how to make the following be accomplished, I would be greatly appreciative.
I am creating a fillable PDF and currently have a combo box that is labeled "Internship Satisfied By" with the options of "TCoB PDP", "MRKTNG 4185", and "Other College". I would like a hidden text box (where the end user can fill in to explain) to become visible only when the end user selects the "Other College" option, but stay hidden for the other selections. The hidden text box is labeled "Internship Explained".

Dynamic action on text box change does not working

i have a page with following components.
a report that has and edit link.
a text box to catch the primary key from report link when it is clicked
a number of elements (text boxes, check boxes and LOVs) which are used as data entry form.
Now my design is that user enter values save them and no sooner did they save, the report depicts new
values. if user want to edit any record, they click on edit link and the data entry form elements
should now bring all those values from DB on page. i m successful to pick primary key and bring
it in a hidden text box and wrote a dynamic action on its change event that will bring values from
DB and set all page elements. but but but.........the change event doesnt work. it only work
when focus is lost from the text box...!! offcourse user wont want to click in that "hiddent" text
box and then click some where else to bring values in page data entry form......
help is humbly requested from forum or if any other solution approach is to be used easier than
one i m using, would be appreciated.

1. My page no is 3.
2. Hidden Item name is P3_EDIT_ACTIVITY_ID
3. Data entry form, hidden item and the report are on the same page.
4. on the edit link of report, i have used following settings.
    Target: Page in this application
     Page: 3
     and i set hidden item as follows......
     Item 1   P3_EDIT_ACTIVITY_ID         Value #ACTIVITY_ID#
   well, when i click the link on report it does bring Activity_Id in the hidden box (which is not yet hidden for debugging purpose)
Next i wrote Dynamic action which fires on the change event of P3_EDIT_ACTIVITY_ID and run PL/SQL code with in it which is as follows

i have created another true action to check when the dynamic action is fired. its very simple alert. and the problem is, it only fires when focus is lost from the P3_EDIT_ACTIVITY_ID. i mean, when u keep changing value inside the text box, nothing happens, when u go outside, the alert is fired and so the pl/sql procedure. but the line
    :P3_Dept := :Dept;       OR      :P3_Dept := Dept;         arent working which is the actual requirement.
I m not using set value here as i have to set a lot of values on page not one. further. plz let me get rid of this lost focus thing as i want the form to be populated with correct values related to P3_EDIT_ACTIVITY_ID as the user click on any edit_link in the report.

Adobe Acrobat Pro text box not printing and is hidden under box highlight.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.13. I am completing a form with text box throughout the document. I can no get the text box to printing and the text is hidden under box highlight. I have tried printing with the print feature 'Comments & Forms/ Document and Markups' with no luck.

It's doing that because you have field highlighting enabled. YOu can either turn it off or make the field read-only (if it's only used for display and not entry).

I am not sure I understand your question. Are you importing a PDF with Hidden Fields into FormsCentral?
If this is the case FormsCentral ignores hidden fields and doesn't create column in the response table for those.

Expand Text Box? "Advanced" text options not hidden?

The title text box/editor is very small in the 10.2 update. It's just big enough for 2 lines of text. I find it fairly inconvenient to have it so small (I am referring to the text box in the inspector). I'm guessing there is no way to expand this to fit more lines of text in, but if anyone knows how that'd be sweet! Otherwise I'm just crossing my fingers it gets a quick update since I'm using it every day for work.
Also, the "advanced" tab always being collapsed in the basic text editing tools is annoying, too. I use this every time I make a title(which I'm making two videos a day, so it's a little more tedious now after the update). Personally, for a professional program I would consider the options in the "advanced" section to actually be basic and fairly necessary...based on how I use it, so maybe I'm not a normal case.
Nothing is broken, just less convenient...

Hidden password in input text box

How do I hide the letters in a password input text box. I
have an input text box for the viewer to type in a password and
would like the password to not show when typed in, like is the case
with html text boxes, where you just see a bullet for each letter
in the password. How would I do this? Is there a font I could use?

Select the Input text object on the stage. In the Properies
window, select the pulldown at the bottom center, it probably says,
"Single line". Select "Password". You can then get the actual text
that the user types in by asking for the instance name's text value
or the variable's value for that Input text field. Be sure to embed
the font that you want to use.

Help - text boxes/highlighting hidden unless selected in Acrobat Pro 9.2

I am working Acrobat Pro 9.2. When I insert a text box, it disappears when I click somewhere else. I can only tell it's there If I hover over it - I get a black mouse arrow. If I click on it and select it, then I can see the text and border, but if I click anywhere else, it disappears. I've tried all the options and settings I can find. It is set to show, not hide, all comments and text boxes. Also, when I try to highlight regular text, it puts a little yellow, symbol above my text but does not highlight the text. When I roll the mouse over it, a yellow note pops up with the text I highlighted, but when I move the mouse away, nothing is highlighted. Again, I've tried changing all of the settings I can find related to highlighting but nothing works. I use Acrobat on other computers and have used both text boxes and highlighting without any problem. Is this due to a setting somewhere, or is there something wrong with my installation of Adobe? Something to check.
To have text selected by the Highlight tool placed into the annotation's pop-up:
Preferences > select Category "Commenting"
There are three panes of configuration options.
--| View Comments
--| Pop-Up Open Behavior
--| Making Comments
Tick the last option (Copy selected text into Highlight, Cross-Out, and Underline comment pop-ups) in the third pane.
Play with the other options as you may find others that are very useful.
For form fields:
Preferences > select Category "Forms"
In the first pane (General), select "Show focus rectangle".
In the second pane (Highlight Color) select "Show border hover color for fields".

How do you edit text that is in a text box? I just want to change the font color of the text. Solution in the Help files recommends selecting the text and then selecting Optional) To make further changes to the text box:
   Using the Select tool or the Text Box tool, click an edge of the text box to select it, and then drag a corner to resize it. Use the Properties toolbar to change the border and fill options.
   Double-click the text box to edit the text or change the text attributes. Drag across text to select it, and then select options from the Properties toolbar.
This is what the help files recommend

When I try the above solution I don't have a "Options" in the "Properties" toolbar.
Why would they change a process that was so simple in previous editions to such a hidden awkward process?

Try with a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer and/or changing the blending mode.
If the effect is too much for the rest of the bulb, you may be able to mask it out.
It would help if you post a representative picture here on the forum page for us to look at.

Problem with bullets in text boxes

Hi,
I haven't seen this problem written up anywhere but I am
having problems with my text formatting differently in text boxes
when I've used bullets in the text. I am using Captivate 2.
So here's what happens:
If the text caption has a bullet
anywhere in the body, when I publish my captivate course, the text
looks like normal 12 pt Arial.
If there is a text box without any bullets, the text looks
like it was bolded.
The next result is that I have two types of body text
throughout my course.
I went into every slide and verified that there is no other
text formatting going on and I did find that Impact was sometimes
in the same text boxes where I had bullets but I finally got rid of
all the impact. However, the problem remains. Can anyone help me?

Hi Lin and welcome to our community
My guess here is that you are using the Transparent caption
type. When you do this, the caption anti-aliases the text inside
and many claim it looks either bold or fuzzy. You have two options.
1. Use Bullets on all captions. Don't worry, you don't have
to actually SEE the bullets. Just press Enter a few times and apply
bullets to one of the blank lines. Then size the caption so the
bullet part is hidden from view.
2. Implement a trick discovered by fellow Adobe Community
Expert Paul Dewhurst. You can see his trick by

Making Text Box Shrink To Text

I'm designing a form with a text box that can grow, which I've done successfully. The problem is as the user is typing on the next line the previous line scrolls up and is hidden from view. It expands when the user exits but I think it would be useful if they saw all that they were typing.
I was playing with mouseEnter setting the height to say 2" which would be more than enough, then on mouseExit setting back to the default of .25" expand to fit is checked but the text box maintains the .25" no matter how much text and the scroll bars appear. I don't want to start shrinking font size.

Hi Experts!
I have SP3 with its Fix Pack 3.1 installed
I am not able to use Input Text box component
when i hit preview i cant see the input text box. it gets hidden for no reason
i am not using Dynamic visibility
i have no other component in my dashboard except Input Text component. i have just started
is anyone else experience the same issue? can anyone help please?

Create a new dashboard and test as follows:
1. Give some background color on the input box and then preview to check.
2. Check whether you have marked for HIDE in the Object Browser for that input box.

Hiding text box based on check box checking

I have a jsp in which based on whether the check box is checked or unchecked I want to hide or show a text box. I am including the text box in a div tag & calling a javascript function to set the style of the div to hidden or shown based on whether the check box is checked or not. although i am getting the correct values in the alerts the text box is not getting hidden.
