Hide labels / titles on the dock

Working w/ Lion 10.7.3
I would like to hide the labels/titles that appear above the dock icons when hoovering across the dock.
Using Xcode, the particular root key that needs manipulating is:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist/
Then persistent-apps -> Item "0" -> title-data -> file-label  (reset file label as desired or to blank/null)
A restart is need for the change to take effect.
However, itermitently the default labels return (somes after 2 restarts and sometimes after 3).
There must be some script running checks and resetting these values. Does anyone know where the key or plist file is to alter this process? Or any other successful way to work around this without installing a dock utility?
Thanks,
David

While there are many aspects of Firefox that you can modify with style rules and other little modifications, the program icon on the dock (or the equivalent on the Windows Task Bar) cannot easily be changed. What I know is in the following thread, which was for the equivalent (much less pretty) version of the feature on Windows: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/969790 How do I turn off the green download indicator that overlays the taskbar icon].

  • Keep applications from appearing in the dock?

Is it possible for an application to "hide" from the dock? There are some utility apps that I'd like to run, but I don't want to see them in the dock. If it is possible to hide their icons from the dock, that sure would helpful.
These are apps that I want to load up at startup, and I have their Hide boxes checked in my profile, but they are still showing. But I'd like to have them act like Snapz Pro does, and not even appear in the dock at all, even though it is running.

Thanks for the reply. I also found the line of code to do the same thing that the application you submitted to me does automatically.

…It looks like when I choose the automatic mode to show or hide for the dock the problem is solved…

  • How do I get Elements to occupy full screen on my macbook pro? - the docking station remains visible and I don't want to have the dock in hide mode?

How do I get Elements to occupy full screen on my macbook pro? - the docking station remains visible and I don't want to have the dock in hide mode?

Unfortunately, there is no answer to this problem via this link. It may be that this is simply how the software actually works. It is a design fault in Adobe Photoshop Elements. It is possible to temporarily hide the dock within 'system preferences'. Oh well. Someone may know better.... I hope!

  • Save as dialog box hides behind the dock

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite, the 'save as' dialog box will partly hide behind the dock. I can't see the 'save' nor the 'cancel' button.
Now I don't want the dock to auto hide, nor do I want to make it so small I can hardly see the icons, because when I do either of that I can of course see the buttons. I can therefore only cancel by pressing escape. Since that is not really efficient working for me, this minor issue annoys me to no end.
I use Word for Mac 2011 and have never had any issues with it before. This also only happens when creating Word documents in print mode view (changing the view makes the issue go away but when I go back to print mode view - which I have always used, the buttons are hidden behind the dock again!) I would appreciate any help ...

I have the same issue with Chrome, it's very annoying, especially since the "New Folder"-Button is hidden underneath the dock as well.
When placing the Dock on the left, the Dialog even disappears underneath the screen.

  • How to hide Text Variable in the Query title

    Hi guys,
here again in a very easy pratical issue.
I need to insert a text variable in a report title.
The variable is updated with an exit and the text is get once the query is executed. This works fine.
My problem is that in report selection (so opening the query and between queries available for an Infoprovider) I see the tech variable name of the query. Do you know if there is a method to hide the variable or if it is possible to valorize it when the report title in the report selection is displayed?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, thanks for your answer.
Also SAP marks this as a limitation.

  • Ribbon + s4-title s4-lp | Hides when clicked on the list item

    Hello,
    Using
SPSecurityTrimmedControl, I hide the ribbon for a user having
view only rights. Now when this user clicks on any list item (grid view), the div "s4-title" containing the logo, and title text hides too.
    Please help.

    Thanks for the reply Shakir.
I tried to find the div with id ms-designer-ribbon to make the changes and add the JavaScript. I failed to do so. Please helpme with me with this.
I'll try to explain a bit more:
The View Only user shouldn't have the ribbon for any editing changes. To achieve this, I followed the steps given in the article (URL below).
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/zwsong/archive/2010/04/29/how-to-hide-ribbon-from-users-without-edit-page-privilege.aspx
Now when the user clicks anywhere on "Line Item", the div containing logo i.e.

    Any help is appreciated

I am trying to display the description on content query web part from a list. Even when I leave the Title field blank on "Presentation" section (editing the web part), the title shows up with the link along with the description. Is there any way
to hide the title or leave it as blank? Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Evilar

    Hi Evilar,
Thanks for posting your issue, Kindly use the below mentioned CSS Style in ID of table tag to fix this issue
    #hide-title .ms-viewheadertr {
    display: none;
    }OR
For Content Query Web part (WebPartWPQX) Note; X is a number of your web part.#WebPartWPQX .ms-viewheadertr

i drag my app.to the dock , there is no icon, just the label and it works, don't know where it went

Hello, do you have a screen shot of that?
Is it possible it didn't quite make it to the dock & dropped on the Desktop?

  • Automatically hide & show the Dock not working

The Dock keeps getting stuck. When I turn the computer on it works fine. But then after a while, the Dock doesn't automatically show when the cursor is at the foot of the screen. If I click at the foot of the screen the Dock appears.
Also, the magnification isn't working. It magnifies the app closest to where I click at the foot of the screen, but the Dock is then 'frozen' and moving the cursor left & right doesn't have any magnifying effect.
I tried turning off Automatically hide & show the Dock and get no magnification whatsoever.
I don't get any of these problems on my Intel'd MacBookPro - just my 2GHz Dual 3GB RAM Power Mac.

I have exactly the same problem on a G5 and a 20' dualcore, both running Leopard...and also when you drop down the menus from the finder bar the selection doesn't turn blue when you run the cursor over them...but this problem hasn't affected my G4 ibook yet...
I don't think Leopard is as stable yet as we would like it to be but i'm sure these little niggles will be sorted out in due time, Tiger was such a good stable OS and Leopard has a lot to live up too..!
It would be nice to get these things sorted sooner rather than later....!
    Chris..

  • I upgraded to snow leopard, since then safari does open in the dock but does not load as set in my preferences and the title page remains blank even though I have set-up a home page. I completely re-initialised safari, but no change.

I upgraded to snow leopard, since then safari does open in the dock (white dot) but does not startup as set in system preferences. Also, if I open safari, the title page remains blank even though I have set a home page under safari's preferences. I re-initialised safari, but no change.

Having put my home-page under "new windows open with home-page" solves the "blank title page problem".
One problem left: "safari" does not startup automatically as set in system preferences, whereas "mail", also set for startup DOES startup

When I click on the dock icon to open Thunderbird, the menu at the top of the screen opens, but no windows, ie. Mail & Newsgroups, New Message, About Thunderbird, etc. will open on my desktop. I have to click on Hide Thunderbird, then click on the dock icon again, and then all of the windows I attempted to open become visible. This is on a Mac running OS 10.8.5, Thunderbird 3.0.11. All runs normally after this until I quite Thunderbird.

    Hello,
Sorry you are frustrated. If you have improvements you would like to make, you can file them to the [[Suggestion Box]] and the Firefox logo in the top left with upside down arrow is the Firefox button containing menu items. Try a clean reinstall as instructed below to see if it resolved your issue.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Auto Hide the Dock

I know this can be done by pressing 'F' and I dont want to use auto-hide all the time.
Is there a way that you can auto hide the dock when Aperture starts up?

    Hello J:
Try trashing the preference file (com.apple.dock.plist) and restarting. Then enter your personal dock preferences.

  • How do I hide the app names on the Dock?

I want to turn off the app names that display on the Dock. If it doesn't exist, I think it should be done. We (most people, I guess) already know most of the apps on their Dock. So hiding it will help making the interface more sleek.

    Open a Finder Window:
My hard drive is called MacHD, yours won't be (unless you changed it to be that) normally it is MacintoshHD

  • After clicking of applications folder in the dock, the items have no labels.

    Only happens after a reboot.
