1) Jive software is stupid, you are correct.
2) Yep, known major problem yet to be fixed.....
3) I think you're missing a link, isn't there a "start new discussion" crap link or something?  I know, this Jived up interface is designed in such a way that most people never notice at least one "feature", it seems.
4 - They didn't do that?? No, they had to of done that (I think). I think if you can't find something that old, it's probably just the search sucking.
New definition of Jive at dictionary.com:
-noun
1) An amateur developer, particularly one who develops web forums in IT. ex. Jives are cheap to hire, but will negatively affect your bottom line unless you have exceptionally dishonest salespeople.
-verb
1) To screw over. ex. Wow, you really jived that company up this time!
-adjective
1) Extremely slow, to such an extreme as to render unusable. ex. These forums are so jive, most of us are going to have to find an alternative now.
2) Deceiving or misleading; dishonest. ex. The jive salesman sold another one of his useless products to an unsuspecting customer.
3) Useless or not worth bothering with. ex. This software is too jive to purchase.
4) Severely wrong morally; excessively punishing. ex. That's jived up man. That's just jived up.

  • Repair Department, Do they really care?

Once again today I had to request for phone line repair. There is always a constant hum on my land line phone. It has been there since I bought my house in July of 2009. Verizon has been out multiple times to repair it but it only lasts a couple of weeks and then the hum is back. These past 2 days the hum is worse and now there are crackles. I've tried to switch providers but they are limited in the country.
Today the repair department stated that the repair man would be at my house on monday before 9pm. That's 3 more days away. Don't really know why the 3 days bother me. It's not like I pretty much don't have reliable phone service any other days. I think it was the fact that since I've been dealing with this problem for so long I thought they would want to fix it sooner.
A small telephone co-op from the next town over is laying fios cables in my area. I so excited. If a small home town co-op can offer these type of services, why is it that a big company such as VERIZON cannot even provided the basic services?
Oh yeah, don't think that verizon offers me a discount either. I still pay the same price as everyone else for substandard service.

I could have written that post. In just over 6 years at this address (Burton, Tx) I have had almost 30 repair calls. Seems a bit excessive to me, but by VerizOFF's standards, it's OK. They get their money every month, and it's a crap shoot whether of not I get anything for it. Good luck on that FIOS switch. I hope you get to switch before VerizOFF drives you crazy, as it is me.

  • Label bounds bigger than they really are

I have a question regarding the calculation of the bounds of labels and how they are used to take up space in a parent.
In my example, i have an application where the top element is a border pane. In the left part of the borderpane i have a VBox with a specified maxWidth (in this case, 250). The last element of the VBox is another VBox to display a label (a headline) and a GridPane. In this GridPane i have several other labels. Consider this picture:
    pic1
This is how it should look like (i enabled gridLinesVisible for sake of demonstration).
When i use a Text instead of a label in the right column, i get this:
    pic2
Since the Text in the second row exceeds the maxWidth of the top VBox but cannot be made smaller, the VBox grows in width. Everything ok here.
But when i use a label, i expect the label to respect the maxWidth of the top VBox. Altough it seems that it does this, see the result:
    pic3
The label cuts the text at the correct place and the grid column is not larger than the needed space, but still the VBox width grew.
Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong? When i set the ColumnConstraints of the GridPane to a value, i get the result of the first picture. But this workaround isn't practicable since it's a hazzle to find out the right amount of pixels and what i really want is the label to fill the remaining space it has available from the top VBox.

  • Color Settings: What do they really do?

The Edit > Color Settings command has choices "No Color Management", "Optimize for Computer Screens", and "Optimize for Printing". The documentation states that the latter two choices select sRGB and AdobeRGB color spaces, respectively.
What's not so clear are the conditions under which this selected color space is imposed. I once imagined that it specifies the working color space that the Editor uses. But if that were true, then I would expect that the image, once brought into the Editor, would be converted to the selected color space. What actually happens is that the image remains in its original color space unless an explicit Image > Convert Color Profile command is issued. (This is evident in the image properties dialog or the print dialog.)
So my question is: What is the actual use that PSE5 makes of the color space that is selected by Edit > Color Settings? Is this just for dealing with source images that are untagged or that are tagged with a profile other than sRGB or AdobeRGB?
It seems to me that it might be desirable to convert sRGB images to AdobeRGB prior to editing them. Then color adjustments or other editing operations could take advantage of the wider gamut of AdobeRGB compared to sRGB. The adjusted results might then include colors that are out-of-gamut for sRGB and that can improve the appearance of the printed output. But perhaps I am mistaken about whether this is really useful in practice.
(The above discussion assumes that the images originate as JPEGs. I realize that the color space story is entirely different for images originating as camera RAWs.)

    Ed.....
The settings in Edit > Colour Settings have, in my opinion, misleading titles. You need to read carefully the small print that appears at the bottom of the Window which describes what each does.
    b No Colour Management......
this is the obvious one. Elements performs no colour management and so you'll see your images just as if you where using any other Non-Colour Managed program...for example IE7. It also means that new documents you create from scratch will have your Monitor Profile associated with them which is not very useful.
b Optimise for Screen and Optimise for Print......
these turn on Colour Management but neither has any effect if the image you are opening already has a profile associated with it. The embedded profile gets honoured and thats what your working space will be.
If your image does not have a profile associated with it then Elements assigns sRGB if you set the 'Screen' option or AdobeRGB if you set the 'Print' option. This may or may not be the right choice for the image, depending on how it was created.
If you create a New Document from scratch then each setting decides the choice of working space - 'Screen' > sRGB, 'Print' > AdobeRGB
In v4 there is also a 'Allow me to Choose' option which checks that the image has a profile and uses that but if not then allows you to choose sRGB or AdobeRGB.
Converting from sRGB to AdobeRGB has no real advantage since the sRGB colour space is smaller. If the image source doesn't have the colours then converting wont produce them. The reverse is different. The conversion process has to decide how to map colours on the edge of the AdobeRGB space into a smaller space and still keep the general perception of colours the same. Typically they are just thrown away in Elements but on full Photoshop you have more control over this process.
RAW images as you say are different but still effected by the Colour Settings. If you have the 'Screen' option set then once you process the RAW image the result is in the sRGB space. Likewise if you choose 'Print' then the image is in AdobeRGB.
RAW images are in a very much wider space than AdobeRGB so you're possibily throwing away more colours. However, keep in mind that your display is probably close to sRGB and your printer may be totally different in its capability of re-producing colours.

  • Aux do they really work as they should

On multi instruments surely we need to be able to record parts on them. ie kik on 1 snr on 2 etc
in lp7 we had the midi channels so this worked fine. i guess we should do the same with 8, so for the sake of a +button what have we really gained.

What do you mean? As far as recording parts on a multi-instrument, they are still MIDI instruments, so that really hasn't changed. What you have gained is the ease in setting up the necessary aux channels for the outputs. You don't record your MIDI parts on an aux channel... they're audio.
If that's not good enough, you can always go back to the old way and set up your aux channels in the environment.

  • Can't contact Adobe... Are they really that unprofessional?

I'm a Camtesia Studio User and I am looking at
converting over to Captivate. The software continually crashes on
me. It is a trial version that I have just downloaded. I understand
that things like this happen and I am not so upset about that. I am
however rather frustrated that I cannot seem to even send Adobe an
email about how to fix the problem.
    Here is the problem...
The software crashes sometimes upon opening a new project.
The software crashes everytime upon ending a recording. In my
search I found another person with the same problem. One user
responded with suggestions. I followed those suggestions to no
avail. I have uninstalled the software... cleaned up my system and
    reinstalled to no avail.
So I would think that my next course of action is to contact
Adobe and ask.... "How can I get your software to work?".
45 minutes of searching Adobe.com and I can't find anyway of
contacting them to ask such a basic question.
Am I missing something? Is Adobe really that
    unprofessional?

The contact method has been supplied though I agree they
    could make it
easier - one thing Adobe said they looked forward to with the
    Macromedia
integration was the community relations Macromedia brought to
    the table.
It seems that aspect of the integration hasn't been all that
    successful
    so far...
Anyway, Captivate crashes as you describe I would suspect
    being a result
of video card issues. Try adjusting the Troubleshooting
    slider (assuming
XP; Display Properties > Settings > Advanced >
    Troubleshoot). Bringing
that down a notch or many may help the stability...though may
    also
effect the quality of the captures.

  • How do I know they really installed 2 GB of RAM?

Here's what happened and why I ask:
Computer is back home after spending the better part of a month in an authorized Apple service center shop. Took it in to upgrade RAM from 250 MB to 2 GB. A routine procedure I was told that would take no more than an hour. It's been a computer nightmare.
First, the shop had "issues" installing the RAM. Then, while trying to do so, the logic board "failed." They got a new logic board. Brought it home. Trouble and back in. Incredibly, that logic board failed. Installed another one. More problems, highlighted by "kernel panics," the CD drawer not opening, and other things. Back to the shop where they say everything's been fixed. CD drawer needed a "new cable." Don't know what they did to fix the logic board/RAM thing. All things thoroughly checked and machine is working perfectly. Incidentally, I was not charged for any of these "extra, unanticipated" things.
I don't know yet whether the computer is really fixed. Starting to use it to see if it really works. After about a day.....no apparent problems. We'll see. But,
How do I really know they actually installed the 2 GB of RAM. The reason I ask is that after one trip in and back home, I noticed that the computer's serial number did not show up in the "About this Mac" and the Macintosh HD info window. After telling them that, next time I brought it home, sure enough ... the was the serial number showing where it was supposed to.
Appears to me they knew how to type it in and did so. Couldn't they do the same thing with the RAM info? Because the computer seems to be working ok after one day, could they have taken out the 1 GB RAM chips or boards or whatever they're called (because they just didn't work), and re-installed the 256 MB one? Then just typed in the info for 2 GB RAM boards in the "More Info" window of "About this Mac."
And...........I notice no difference with the apparent 2 GB of RAM compared to 256 MB. Shouldn't I realize something? More speed in working with applications? Or something? How do I know they actually installed 2 GB of RAM?
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    (Obviously, not I'm not a computer whiz.....don't know a logic board from a chess board–although I've learned it's a pretty important component.)

Firefox is free (Mozilla/Firefox) and in some cases it appears to work
quickly for some web content; I use both, Firefox mostly, then Safari.
GarageBand can be a CPU-intensive application; depending on what
you are doing with it. Composing music and layering effects could do it.
To supplement chip RAM, you'd likely need a larger capacity hard disk
drive and leave more free space for both the application to run and also
to have room for larger demands of the system; virtual memory mainly.
Newer drives also have larger buffers, so one with a 16MB buffer could
also add some speed too. The stock 80GB drive 1/2 full could be slow
since your computer would be read/writing more often to the drive as it
is used more and more as virtual memory and also to record changes
to your GarageBand music compositions; plus normal system demands.
Of course, you could use an external FireWire enclosure and put a much
larger hard disk drive into that; large enough for a full system clone and
then boot from the external when doing things such as GarageBand; the
work you do would be saved to the external and its system would be
like having a second computer, booted and running from the FW HDD.
There may be better ways of doing this; one may be to consider a Mac
with faster bus, processor, RAM type and speed, among other upgrades.
Upgrades involving service tech access to the iMacG4's base unit are
to be done in the proper way so as to be sure the thermo paste and other
safeguards in the cooling system (heat scavanging is essential) are
restored properly when the machine is reassembled. Some upgrades to
these computers can add more heat-generating capacity, so cooling is
essential to reduce the odds of probable failure from overheating; since
the processor, more RAM, and a busy hard drive add up.
If the machine is used in a warm room (a dusty/smokey environment)
these details will add to higher heat output of the computer; in that
it won't be as cool as it could be. Of course, in this matter, you could
get a sensitive thermometer with a sensor and put the sensor near the
computer's air output to get a second comparative heat gauge on it.
Not just the Temperature Monitor software's take on internal heat.
    If the machine should overheat, it will affect more than the recordings;
and how the computer's resources are allocated to tasks and the effic-
iencies (or lack of) in how they are used will affect applications, do have
an impact in a wider range of overall machine health.
The Activity Monitor can help, in that you can monitor and see what is
going on inside the computer and maybe control system resource use
by not multi-tasking when using a major application. There may be a
way to allocate system resources to your primary application in use,
but in OSX that is fairly automatic (unlike older OS9's RAM use.)
In Discussions, there is an area for Application discussions and
perhaps more detailed replies from knowledgeable users of Garage
Band would be generated from questions you may have, in there(?)
I have GarageBand, and recognize its value, yet seldom use it.

  • Imessages showing as delivered. Are they really being received

I am just curious as to if the person I am sending the message too, and they don't have the "read notification" turned on, if my messages are really going thru even though they say delivered? Does that make sense?

"Delivered" tells you that they were delivered to that Apple ID/phone number. It tells you nothing else. I have never had any reason to doubt the accuracy of "Delivered". If the person you're messaging doesn't want to turn read norification on, that's as much information as you're going to get.

My utilization across all cards is 22% (not great, but I didn't think it was terrible).  I've not had a late or missed payment on any account from any company in over 5 years. There is one thing that concerned me though.  I have an old collection for $3489 that's over 5 years old & should fall off next year.  AMEX knew about this when I opened both accounts.  I assumed it was old enough they didn't put much weight in it.  Recently I contacted this company to see about possibly paying some or all of it off to have it removed.  They agreed to remove it but for way more than I was willing to pay so I say no.  A few days later I get an "alert" from Transunion telling me there was a new "major derogitory" on my Experian credit.  I panicked and logged in, but it was the same account with the same info so I didn't worry.  Did they "renew" this or something?  From what I can tell it's all the same info.  Did AMEX maybe see this as a "new" derogitory account & it freaked them out??Unfortunately, it appears that by contacting the collection agency the clock on your collection was "reset", thus appearing to Amex as a new and pretty substantial derog account. So, to minimize Amex's own exposure they cut down their potential risk by lowering your CLs. Your 22% UTI had nothing to do with their decision IMO.  They just saw the derog and freaked out, which would be the normal course of action for any lender. They definitely don't hate you. They just don't want to have huge CLs open for folks who appear to be in financial trouble as they are more likely to be unable to pay money back.  My understanding of old collections is that if they are closer to falling off then not, you should ride it out until it goes away. If the time frame is too far away, pay the thing off and negotiate with the collector agency to get it done. Always go for a PIF w/removal if possible. But still negotiate obviously.

  • Fonts missing in InDesign when they really aren't

I am using Adobe InDesign CS3 on the Windows platform, Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
When I open certain documents in InDesign, I receive the "missing fonts" message, with certain fonts highlighted. However, when I investigated further to see what the replacement font was(by going into the text box), the missing font was definitely listed in InDesign.
Missing fonts include Helvetica Neue LT Std 57 Condensed, and Helvetica Neue LT Std 37 Thin Condensed.

Hey! The fonts were installed via the fonts control panel. I actually don't have admin access at my work computer and have to get the I.T. guy to install the fonts for me (VERY irritating). (Another gripe is that he hasn't been able to figure out a way to give me permissions on Vista's font panel since it doesn't seem to work the same as a regular folder.)
Some of the fonts that don't work are Type 1 and some are TrueType, but most are the former (I think most all the fonts on my old system were Type 1). I think in some cases there are newer Open Type fonts on the computers that conflict with them somehow or something (?). I don't know. It's very annoying. I suspect if I slaughter all the fonts on the system and just install the old ones things will be okay. I'm hesitant to do that though as there are lots of new fonts I wouldn't mind checking out.
I blamed Vista because I've had no font problems moving from one XP machine to another regardless of what fonts were already on its system. But now that I've moved up to the new platform many of the fonts just aren't recognized. In one case I found that -- although I couldn't install the fonts from an InDesign package font folder -- they worked when I installed them from the original CD. That didn't make much sense as the files should have been the same.
But anyway, it's annoying. Most of my previous work can't be opened with the correct fonts any more. Blah.

  • They really have no clue.. slower.... slower... sl...

    Hi
    Where do I start?
I had BT BB (unlimited ) for ages now and until recently (January) never had a problem with speed, I normally could get around 5mb, I noticed back in January it started to slow down - reported it did various tests prior to calling the help desk including replacing the router, filters, using the engineers plug, removing everything and trying again although I could not use the BT speedtest site as it said they could not verify that the number was BB activated, then and was told there was an issue with the line and it will be resolved, a month went by and still no improvement - again spoke to India -told that the 10 stabilisation period would be a factor,  (then told him it had been a month).. doh!  and was assured the issue would be resolved, again no improvement - the third time was told there was some maintenance at my exchange due to the number of faults reported, but I would see a drastic improvement with in 10 days stabilisation period (MY A**E)
Again a further 10 days down the line - its bottomed out at 1.5 mb at 1:30 am so shouldn't have been shaped / throttled either.
In June I spoke with the Help (ha) desk again and went through tests again!, and was told we will send an engineer out. The engineer could not find anything wrong although he changed the master socket as there was slight corrosion on the interior of the socket, he did a few tests with his box of tricks and said that I should be getting at least 5mb, did a test there and then.. on the BT site and it showed 3mb - he did mention that perhaps I was being throttled and should speak to the helpdesk but there was no fault with line, we even changed the router for a version 3  to see if there was an improvement ( also had an issue with port forwarding) - again no improvement
I spoke with the desk - was told there was an issue with my profile and it would take 10 days to stabilise again, a further 10 days down the line it slowed even more - 2.5Mb (any time of day) and had to reboot the box every other day as it kicked all the wireless connections off? - and my profile was still stuck at 3000kb .
again I spoke with the desk, and was told ahh yes well it will either improve or get worse?? (told them that's rubbish) but was told not to switch the box off (which I didn't) as they would send another profile and this would sort the issue once and for all..
10 days later.. We still had the same issue although I didn't have to reset half as much (but did some investigation and the router still shows the attached devices as present (wifi) when it bombs the wifi connection, (set to auto) changed it since and had no issues.
Anyway back to the issue - I called back to the helpdesk and again explained all the issues - after further line tests -  was told it was an issue with my profile - (must be a standard card they read from) - I explained that they had changed it several times, and it had NOT resolved it.. IN FACT MADE IT WORSE!..
I was then passed to a supervisor who promised (yes Promised) that this issue would be resolved by 5:30pm of that day. I was rung back within 5 minutes of ending that call but the advisor I previously called just confirming that I was happy with the result and that her or someone from her team would contact me at 6pm to confirm it was all running as it should.
WHHOOHOO! Finally some light at the end of the tunnel.. (although it may have been throttled!..lol)
We received a call at 6 PM where the advisor on the end told my wife (NOT the account holder) that it would take a further 48 hrs - and promptly hung up.
Very 'MIFFED'  I called cancellations - who apologised and offed me half price broadband - if I signed up for a further 12 months.. ( I currently pay £47 for a unlimited package) ... ALL I WANT IS MY BANDWIDTH BACK! and im not going to pay half - for what I consider 1/4 of the bandwidth I should be getting.
We have just had a bank holiday in the UK so I have give them the benefit of the doubt and gave them till today (from Friday- Friday) - guess what NO CHANGE!
In the meantime a friend has just had his BT BB installed (200 YDS) down the street - so I poped round with my laptop and did a test...

Makes you think (his profile is set @ 8 Mb)
Again I spoke with the desk - again after further line tests was told that the problem is with my profile - I asked again to speak to a supervisor- who then told me that it would be sorted by end of play today (here we go again!)
sorry for the long winded waffle - but my question is .... is there anyone who can fix this??
    cheers

    Hi
thanks John46 for your reply, It seems like an awful lot of people are having the same issue right across he UK.. Just cant help thinking is this a sales ploy for all of us to transfer to Infinity... or even this is because of infiniy.. and BT have to throttle to ensure they get their stated bandwidth.
just had enough of paying out hard earned money(£47 per month) for less than sub- standard service.
I feel a cancelation coming on....
    cheers anyway

  • I am trying to clear my browser history of sites with shift+delete, which always worked before. However, lately when I go back to see if they really deleted it turns out they are still there. Even clearing my private data doesn't work. What to do?

I checked to see if maybe the sites were bookmarked, but they are not. At this point, no matter what I do no site I've ever visited in my browser history is being cleared. This is a recent problem however, popping up in the last few days.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Can they really do this??

As everyone here I have been working on improving my credit situation. I had a smal Chase account charged off which has fallen off of my credit reports as it was cahrged off with first deliquency way back in 2008, it feel off a few months ago. I pull my report today and see that Midland has now reported as of 6/25 that it's a collection and are saying it was opened in 2012. Here it is... if they can;t do this what is the best steps to take to get it off my report... I just got all my negatives off and now this! They reported this too TU, EQ and EX.  Account DetailsLast ReportedJun 25, 2015Collection AgencyMIDLAND FUNDOriginal CreditorCHASE BANK USA N AStatusOpenOpened DateMay 14, 2012Closed Date--ResponsibilityIndividualBalance$2,616High Balance$2,616RemarksPlaced for collectionCreditor Contact DetailsMIDLAND FUNDING LLC

I had the same thing happen with an old account.  I disputed it and after a few weeks it was removed from all the credit bureaus.  It was a PITA, but thankfully at the time the only card I had was Capital One who doesn't generally take AA due to old collections showing up.  I now have Amex, and if I were to find myself in the same situation they would likely not be as understanding.  There seems to be a 'theme' with collection agencies and attorneys scrambing to take action right before an account is beyond the SOL or is just about to age off.
