HomeHub 2 'password'

Just bought a Kindle, expecting wireless connection via my HomeHub 2. Kindle knows it's there but is asking for a password. This is not the password on the hub sticker. I've tried other likely passwords, like my BT email one, and other things I often use. I know this is a crazy question, but did I have to set a password when I first set up HomeHub, and is this what Kindle wants? I've seen I can override password on HomeHub 3 but not 2. Can I get hold of it, because I've certainly forgotten doing it? (Don't get technical with me - simple advice, please!)

Hello,
I know the Kindle Wireless is confusing since my stepdad asked me the same question ;-)
The Kindle Password is actually the WPA key in the case of a HomeHub (or WEP key if you have configured it manually).
It will be printed on the back of your homehub:
http://btybb.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14000/kw/Home%20hub
If you have configured it manually, to find out what it is you will need to go to
http://192.168.1.254
Click on A-Z in the top right corner
Click on Wireless security
The WEP or WPA key is what you need to put in the password field of the Kindle.
Hope this helps,

  • AirPort Extreme 5 extending BT HomeHub 1.5 network

There is much about connecting Airports to Home Hubs to extend networks but many of the questions and answers are old and some of the solutions rely on access to the old version of Airport Utility for a manual set up.
I have an AA Extreme 5 which I hard reset and connected by plugging in to Ethernet 2 on the BTHH and the WAN port on the Extreme. I selected the option to extend an existing network. The dialogue came up which showed the BT HomeHub network and I clicked next. I was then asked for a password. In the first instance I input the network access code (but now think I possibly should have put in an AirPort access password of my own devising). After which I was asked for the BT HomeHub password. Now I did not know if this was the network access code or if there is a code for accessing the hardware. If there is I am not aware of it and could not find one.
After several minutes of churning it reported an error. I backed out and did another reset of the AA Extreme. This time I put in a completely different password for the AirPort and things were no better and this time I was not asked for the BT HH password. Nor was I asked ever again. I tried again with the LAN socket not the WAN socket on the Extreme with no success. I reset the AA Extreme again and, this time, I created a new network. The computer is connected to the BTHH by Ethernet to Ethernet 1 and the Extreme is connected to the BTHH at Ethernet 2. I have the Extreme up and working in the utility window but I have a double NAT error and I do not think the Extreme is extending the network which provides access to the internet. It all seems a bit of a muddle. Please can anyone suggest where I might have been going wrong with the initial set up which I gather should have worked but perhaps only historically when manual set up was an option.
The only other option I can foresee being workable is to set aside the BTHH altogether and use a different router or modem but I cannot readily see how to set up the modem or router for the BT Internet service; the support information I have from BT is either too rudimentary or it is impenetrable. Any suggestions from those who have got this to work would be greatly appreciated. The OS is 10.9.
    Thanks.

The 5th generation 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) has WAN-to-LAN & LAN-to-WAN throughput performance in excess of 400 Mbps. This would basically be the speed at which data can "pass" through the AirPort to/from the Internet. Sorry I don't have the equivalant data for the BT Homehub 3.
One thing to check out is the Ethernet WAN Port setting within the AirPort Utility (v5.x). By default, this is set to "Automatic." Try setting it to (first) "1000 Mbps/Full Duplex," then "100 Mbps/Full Duplex" to see if either setting offers an improvement.
You will find this setting here: AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection tab > Ethernet WAN Port

  • Why can't we have a single point of contact who de...

Three weeks ago our house was hit by lightning and our broadband connection went on the blitz (a Linnit technical term).
The telephone stopped working. I did an on-line check and the connection registered a fault. The on-line system logged the fault with the teachnical team. So far so good...
I received a call from the tech team advising an engineer was coming out to us, if the fault was with our equipment we would be charged. That's fair. Engineer called. My phones were fine, BUT the BT router was where the fault lay said the engineer. We would need to raise another fault report because he only dealt with telephone AND as he was a subcontractor he would bill for the work... He disconnected the router so the phone would work and left.
I work virtually, which means that I can work from my home, so I need the internet even more than my family want the telephone. I plugged the internet back in so that I could continue to work and called BT again from my mobile. Speaking to a very polite guy in Delhi I was asked to describe my phone socket, unplug the router from the office, carry it downstairs to the kitchen where the main socket is, plug the router in there, reconnect, try again, all sorts of stuff before finally being advised that it was probably just the 'microfilter' and that as they were very inexpensive it might be faster for me to go out and buy one and plug it in myself rather than have another engineer come out to us.
So I did just that. In fact, as the microfilters are less than a fiver, I got two... brought them home and plugged one in... didn't work.
Called Delhi again. Spoke to someone else who was, again, very polite. They tried to get me to unplug and plug things in and out again, but I politely declined this time explaining that now the poor internet connection that we did have was running so slowly I am having to commute in to work over Christmas. He sympathised and told us that he would escalate the issue. That was before Christmas. Since then I received a text on my phone on Christmas Day telling me they couldn't reach me!!!
Today I called again to BEG someone to please come out and fix things for us. We aren't technical. We cannot act as pseudo engineers. We pay BT one bill each quarter for a service. Why on earth can't BT provide me with a single point of contact when I have an issue. And if that point of contact could understand me and explain things to me in words and phrases that I understand that would be perfect!
Last year I cancelled three mobile contracts that we'd had since the early 90's with O2 because they were so unhelpful.
BT aren't the cheapest broadband provider but we've stayed with them out of 20+ years loyalty and the understanding that we had a one-stop-shop. Now, it looks as though I'll be shopping around for another domestic broadband provider for 2012.

Thank you for being so helpful and constructive.
I tried to look at the ASDL settings, john46 but it's asking me for my HomeHub password... the only password I have is for our wireless network and that one doesn't work.
I can't test the phone line right now because I'll have to disconnect the internet and I'm currently working on another computer whilst chatting on this one with you. However I will do that later. I'll also look at the RogerB link you provided.
Truth is, we're pensioners who use the internet but we havent a grain of technical understanding between us. We're old fashioned enough to admit that we just want someone who knows what he's doing to come here and fix it for us. It's already cost us £130 for an engineer to come out from OpenReach to tell us the phone line is OK and it's the router causing the problem. Best case scenario is that another BT engineer who knows about broadband comes out and does it because the last BT person that I spoke to in Delhi did actually confirm that there is a fault on the BT side. I'm getting so frustrated right now I'll probably call out an independant I find in Yellow Pages and get charged an arm and a leg again and I'll then cancel with BT in a fit of pique.

  • Exporting to Tagged PDF: Why would every single line of text come out as a separate Span tag?

I've inherited an InDesign file for which I have to generate a 508-compliant PDF. Normally this is pretty smooth with InDesign, and most issues have historically been pretty easy to fix.
With this document, though, every single individual line is exporting to tagged PDF as a separate <Span> tag.
I've turned off overrides and hyphenation, and looked for manual line breaks. I've also tried exporting it out to IDML and opening that, and the resulting PDF was no better.
If anyone has an idea of whether there's some odd setting I'm missing that could explain why this is happening, that would be very helpful!

Thank you for being so helpful and constructive.

  • Password for BT Homehub and I don't even have a Homehub!

Can anyone tell me why everytime I turn on my computer or wake it from sleep, I get a popup window requesting passwords for:
    BT Homehub-IF6E
    BT Homehub-F84B
I don't even have a homehub. I recently purchased the upgrade discs from PC World, which after installing, I get the above. It's annoying, to say the least. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably nothing but have a look in your prefferred network list anyway. Those numbers at the end look like account numbers or part of a Mac address, (looks like the format that Sky broadband users have for their wireless nets). just wondering if somehow Airport is looking for them.

  • Homehub 2.0b - lost admin password

It's a long story that I won't bore you with, but at the end of it I ended up with a Homehub 2.0 model B with no sticker on the back. Being the model B the password isn't repeated on the bottom label, so I'm now stuck without admin access.
Is there any way of getting the password from BT, or is the router good for nothing but the bin?

Hey - I've fixed it - and this will work for others:
On the bottom label of the Homehub 2.0B is a 2D barcode - it's in DATA_MATRIX format (i.e. not a QR code).
In desperation I got an app called "Barcode Reader" from the Android Market for my Hero. It decoded the barcode and produced 5 separate text strings, separated by slashes. The second one appears to be the wireless key, the third is the serial number, and the fifth is the default admin password. I've now been able to log into the hub and change the password.
    Hallelujah!

  • Problem with password in home hub manager

    Hi
I have a pc and a laptop connected wirelessly to homehub 3. connection is fine having swapped the hub for a new one.
The problem I have now is that when i go into hh manager on the laptop, I cannot enter a password to get to settings.
I get admin as user and cursor won't work  in password panel.
On the pc it works fine. It's no biggy as I can acess settings on the pc but anyone know why it is happening?
This is the screen I get. Different to the usual one.
To prevent unauthorised access, your BT Home Hub's settings are protected by a password. To change the settings in your BT Hub Manager, you'll need to enter your admin password, then click the 'OK' button on this page. Please remember the password is case sensitive.

Swapped from a what version hub? It does sound like you may of been using a v1 or v1.5 hub prior to using the hub3
What happens if you go to saved passwords on your laptop, locate the 'admin' one, make a note of it just in case and delete it. Does this allow you to access the hub manager now?

  • I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help, thanks.

I have a macbook pro and use BT homehub 3.  can't work out how to connect my time capsule. can anyone help?  thanks

Just need to plug the TC in to the hub in bridge mode.. do not try and bridge the homehub.. it is not possible with the setup BT uses.
To bridge the TC.. plug it directly into a computer by ethernet.. no other connection to the TC or the computer.
Press and hold in reset until the front LED flashes rapidly.. about 10sec.
    Release the reset.
Open the airport utility and setup the TC to bridge mode.
The actual method depends on version of the OS and airport utility you use.
    This is version 5.
Sorry I cannot post the v6 as I am on a snow leopard computer now. But you go to the network tab, and choose off bridge mode for method of connection. It will be NAT and dhcp by default.
Then setup wireless.. you have a number of choices here.
Either setup with the same SSID Security and password, as the homehub uses.. or a different name, and password..
Each method works fine.. but you sometimes have issues with wireless channels.. for now leave it on auto and see what happens.. if you have issues lock down the radio channels on both devices.. use one out of the following on each, 1, 6, 11 or 13 in UK.. so say 6 on the homehub then 13 onthe TC.
Update the TC.. unplug fromt the computer and plug it into the homehub.
If you have other issues with the setup tell us what OS you run so we can post suitable screenshots.

  • Homehub 3.0 Wireless Event Log messages

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me what event log messages like the following mean?
3 consecutive beacons have not been transmitted
I'm getting these about once every 20 minutes.  Smart Wireless is enabled.
A couple of days ago Wireless became unstable, devices connecting and reconnecting repeatedly. The Wireless light was randomly flashing on and off (Blue) every few seconds.  I had to restart the homehub (which I didn't really want to do, as I was still within my first 10 days, with Infinity).  But after the restart, the admin password had changed.  I assumed it was reset to the original one, but that was also not recognised.  I had to do a password override to get access.
Ever since then Wireless has been behaving itself but I'm still left with these strange event log messages - google comes up with nothing.
    Any ideas?

    Hi BRunner and welcome
Although I've not had opportunity to obtain one of these hubs (BT are you listening), as I'm still on the hub 2, I'll try to help you out with this...
It looks like the hub is reporting that it can't transmit the wireless signal on the chosen channels, why, I'm not too sure
(this might be due to the design (how 'Smart Wifi' works), or dare I say it, the hub could be faulty!!!!!)
Firstly, download either inSSIDer2 (Windows) or istumbler (MAC) - take care when installing, uncheck any 'additional freebies' as they're not needed.
Either will show all the wireless SSIDs in your area. As I use inSSIDer2, I'll explain what to do using this one, I guess itsumbler would be similar (not a MAC man, yet!)
Disconnect from your own hub, run inSSIDer and monitor any SSIDs, I recently noticed that 2 of my neighbours (VM) routers appears to grab channel 1 upto channel 7!
This keeps changing and they keep fighting with each other. As this was affecting me, I've moved to channel 8. This can be manually set via the hub manager, but you'd probably need to switch off 'Smart Wifi'
Ideally, take a screenshot of the results BUT remove ANY wireless SSID's, it's the channels in use that's important.

  • Home Hub Username and password

    Hi,
I was trying to access the basic configuration of my home hub in the Hub Manager and I was asked to enter my username and password. I have no idea what my user name is and have tried using the SN on the back of my hub but alas it does not work. Can you help please.

    Hello headers2,
Don't worry - the factory reset really won't make things worse. The Homehub is configured to connect to broadband out of the box. So long as you've never fiddled with Wifi settings, then you could factory reset it. You would have to re-register your Hub phones afterwards.
Here is how to do it:

  • Hub V2 default password

    Hi,
I had to reset my homehub V2 and I can not access it now as it will not accept the default admin password.
It tells me to enter the default password printed on the back of the Hub but then says it is not valid.
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers.

Ok. If you do decide to do it (it's in the manual) and you're still within your 12/18 month contract BT wil replace it under warranty.
    Message to any future readers:
If you decide to dispose of/sell your Hub and you have BBT set up on it I strongly recommend that you carry out the Full Factory Reset.
If you don't ALL you Hub phone contacts WILL remain on the Hub.

  • HomeHub 5 and and WiFi connection

I have resently go a HomeHub 5 and I am having trouble with the wireless dropping out 2 or 3 times a day.
What basically will happen is that the PD will just stop sending/receiving data from the network (both the internal and external network). Other device on both wireless and wired will still be functioning ok and if I disconnect the wireless on the PC and reconnect all is fine again.
I think the problem may be related to the 5GHz band, but that may be because the computer I am mostly on mostly connects via 5GHz. It may also have something to do with bandwidth usage as it feels like it happeds more often if I am streaming videos.
Anyone else seen similar issues? Any advice?

Had exact same problem for the last few weeks after upgrading to HH5. My laptop would drop off the 5ghz connection, whilst everything else (connected to 2.4) remained fine and dandy. The only way I could reconnect would be to disconnect, connect to a different signal, then reconnect to my original 5ghz signal. If I ran diagnostics along the way it would either report that it couldn't find any error, ot that the DNS server wasn't responding. I split the two signals apart, identifying each one with a different SSID and password.
Did a LOT of digging, and eventually thought it might be something to do with the power management setting on my wireless card, which was selected to on. Selected it off and it at least made the disconnects less frequent. I then went through the advanced settings on the card and deselected anything that would allow the adapter to be turned off by the laptop, which also appeared to help, but not elimnate the issue completely.
I got in touch with BT online help, who rather curiously asked that I change my broadcast signal to channel 11. When I challenged that with the fact I had a 5ghz issue, they requested I change the channel to 44, reboot and monitor, which I have been doing. The problem hasn't completely disappeared, dropping off twice today in quick succession, but since then have had no issues whatsoever. I asked 'Help' why I was doing this, and he told me to de-conflict with other signals. I responded that there were no other signals, but he asked me to do it anyway. Curiously, when I asked what the next steps were if this didn't work, he responded by asking if I wanted to downgrade to a HH4?
I have read that if I set the IP/DNS manually against the wireless adapter then this will help - which will be my next step.

  • Getting network from my homehub to my itouch

I got my ipod touch christmas last year and i've never had any problems and a few days i go my wi-fi stopped working. So i used the password on the back of my homehub to try loging into my homehub wifi but everytime i do this comes up unable to join the netowrk help

Are you trying to use the password on the back of the hub as the wireless key for your iPod?
The password on the back is to allow you to administer the hub. If you cannot cannot remember the hub administration password then you will have to do a factory reset. This will set the password back to the one on the back of the hub.
Once you get to the home page of the hub click on A to Z then scroll down to wireless security. Click on this and you may be asked your password. The wireless key should be displayed in plain text.

  • Using my HomeHub, why do my phone and my tablet ke...

This is getting to be a pain in the neck.  I have had my Nexus 7 repaired, and when I got it back, charged it up and went through set up. I connected it to my proper Home Hub wifi - the full speed Infinity.
Part way through the process, my tablet does a partial reset and connects to BT WIFI - through my Home Hub. But it does not know the password for that! It tehrefore fails to download any of the apps from my saved account, and I have to manually go through each one to install them.
I've worked out that to start with, on initial set up, I must set it to connect to BTWIFI, as it then reconnects to that.  But that means it is downloading hundreds of megs of data over a slow connection of max 3Mbps instead of my 39Mbps.
Previously both my phone and tablet have often connected to BTWIFI instead of my own wifi account when I got home, either giving me an error, or if I have had BTWIFI app running, connecting and thus only getting the slow signal.
Why is the BTWIFI signal the slightly stronger one?
What can I do about it?  I don't want to switch it off, as I use BTWIFI from time to time when out and about.

As John said, set the devices to forget the BTWifi connection then see this link how to set up your phone and tablet to connect to your Homehub you do not need to connect to BTWifi first.
