Homesharing and deauthorization

I am using homesharing.  If I rip from songs from CDs using computer A and later deauthorize computer A can I still play them on computer B?
If I create a backup from computer B to an external drive will it include songs ripped on computer A?  I've read and read but can't seem to find a definitive answer that I can understand.

yes.
authorization is only required for purchases from the iTunes store.

Then stop trying to use HomeShare and use one of the other options listed in the document from which your question was posted.

  • Windows 7 Installer asks me to unistall iTunes 9 and deauthorize computer..

    Hi everyone!
Trying to do the migration from Windows Vista to 7 and the setup program tells me I have to unistall (among other software) iTunes 9 and deauthorize my computer before installation of Windows 7. Has anyone received the same message and if so what do I suppose to do with my library and how long will I have to wait for a compatible version? I tried looking at different sites but so far haven't found an official estatement from Apple....

I have recently went from Windows Vista to Windows 7, and the installer gave me the same warning: Deauthorize iTunes before upgrading to Windows 7. I do not know why this is, however, I did just that, and the upgrade went extremely smooth for me. After the upgrade, I went back to iTunes and reauthorized iTunes and media files played wonderfully.
As long as you backed up your files (this is EXTREMELY recommended when doing any type of upgrade or OS install), your media should be safe.

  • Authorization and deauthorization problems from Migration Assistant?

I purchased a new MacBook Pro and used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my old powerbook G4 running 10.4.6. The transfer was super smooth and everything is in its place. The only problem I'm having is with authorization and deauthorization and both computers.
My new computer prompts me for my login and password every time I click on a song I purchased in iTunes. It then proceeds to tell me that this computer has been been authorized and that 2 of 5 computers are currently authorized. The problem is when the authorization process is finished the song never plays so I click on it again and I get the same prompt for authorizing the computer again. It is the quintissential infinte loop and it happens on any song that I click on.
Problem two is deauthorization on the old computer. It is a reverse of the problem above. I go to deauthorize the computer and get the same prompt. I put in my log and pass and then I'm told that the computer has been deauthorized. The problem is that when I go to click on a song I purchased it still plays when it should not because the computer has been deauthorized.
My only guess is that something happened in the process of using migration assisant. I've tried throwing out the iTunes prefs but that doesnt work. I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

  • A possible reason to problems with HomeSharing and TV shows

I discovered this bug and it may account for some of the problems people describe having with HomeSharing and TV shows (Shows or episodes missing when accessing a homesharing library).
If one selects one or several TV shows (individual episodes or whole season) in iTunes, only those selected will be visible when accessing the shared library from another mac. To fix it, I have to disconnect from the shared library (clicking eject arrow), deselect the TV shows (in list view using the column browser, select All Genre, All Shows and All Seasons) and then reconnect to the shared library.
This problem dos not occur with Movie or Music files.
The problem do not apply if accessing the library from an iOS device (iPod Touch,iPad2,iPhone4, iPhone5).
The library is shared by a Mac Pro (mid-2010, 10.8.2, iTunes 11.0.1(12)) and the problem occurs when accessing the library from a MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini (all using iTunes 11.0.1 under 10.7 or 10.8). All TV shows are home-ripped or home-recorded and do not use any DRM.

If i select music on my machine using the column browser then only the selected music appears under music on in the home share on my wifes machine. If I select the top entry eg Steve's Library then everything shows.
Just tried it for TV Shows and it does the same
Resolved it by removing any selection on my machine, Ejecting the Home Share on my wife's machine. Re selected the Home Share and it reloaded the full list

  • Turned off homesharing and remote app unpaired? Cannot use it.

    Hello,
I tried to correct the Homesharing and Itunes Store issue on my Apple TV G2, it kept wanting my old Apple ID, so following instructions on here, I turned off homesharing in "Computers" on AppleTV, and instead of letting me put in my current Apple ID, it unpaired from the App Remote on my Ipad. Thinking it was an app issue, I uninstalled and restalled the App again (the older verison, not IOS 7). When I opened it, the Apple TV icon was no longer there, and when I sign in to homesharing, there is no option for Apple TV. I no longer have the original remote, which is why I've been using the Remote app. I can't control Apple TV, now. Anything I can do without buying another one? =(

Unfortunately, I think you'll need an new remote.

  • I turned on homesharing and authorized computers, but still can't share ibooks

I am confused about what content I can share among authorized computers. Why can I share music but not books? I've turned on homesharing, and authorized relevant computers (mac book 13" and mac book pro 15"). I have an ipad 1 and we have 2 iphone4s
Being able to share between household members seems reasonable.

First make sure you have Home Sharing turned on. This won't work if you only have Library Sharing turned on. Read my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn the difference between Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to enable them.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16621158
Now, once you've enabled Home Sharing go to my post in the link I've posted below. Find the one with the screenshot. It will show you the different parts of a window so you know how to import media from another computer using Home Sharing. Notice the Show menu in the screenshot.

  • HT1420 i need to authorize my current computer and deauthorize one of the other five.  I cant get to the point of just doing one it says deauthorize all

I need to deauthorize one of mu five computers but it does not allow me to select  only option is to deauthorize all

You may only de-authorize a single computer from that computer. If you don't have access to the other authorized computers then you must deauthorize all of them.
    Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • What is the difference between "deauthorize audible account" and "deauthorize this computer"/

Does anyone have a simple explanation for the difference between the "deauthorize audible account" and "deauthorize this computer" that are listed on iTunes drop down menus?  The first is found under the "Advanced" drop down and the second is found under the "Store" drop down.  Thanks.

Authorised means iTunes will be allowed to play purschased music bought from the apple ID you are logged into. You are allowed up to 5 machines that can play your purchases.
    De-authorised means you cannot.

  • Homesharing and App sharing; Help?

Hi all, I'm trying to share iPod/iPhone/iPad apps between computers on my network using Apple's Homesharing.
Sharing music, movies, podcasts, books, etc. between said computers works just fine and dandy. When I try and transfer apps from the other computer to mine and visa versa, an error dialogue says "The file "-insert app name here-" could not be copied because this computer is not authorized."
Doesn't the fact that we can share other media mean that my computer is in fact authorized? I've tried deauthorizing all computers through the iTunes Store interface, and reauthorizing the computers on my Homesharing network, to no avail.
On another homesharing network, previous to my deauthorization of other computers, Homesharing of apps has worked for me in the past. I wonder what might have changed?
Thanks for reading, and any help... cheers!

    No.
I buy plenty of apps, and so does my roommate. It just doesn't make sense for us to purchase the same apps, and HomeShare, a solution brought to us by Apple, is exactly what we need to make this work, and its not working.
And the bit about me "really, really, really" needing those apps? Completely a joke.

  • I recently upgraded to Fios Quantum and have a new ActionTech router. As a result my PC is no longer communicating with my APPLE TV.It must have a firewall or ports beegin blocked preventing the homesharing and communication even though the APPLE TV is on

I recently upgraded to Verizon Fios Quantum high speed internet and was given an ActionTec router. I sucessfully installed all and connected wth my Apple TV. Although it worked initially it no longer does.  Something appears to be blocking  the Homesharing between my PC and the AppleTV even though the Apple TV is successfully connected to my home network. I spoke with an Apple Support Tech who was unable to help me becuase I have a PC! He admitted this is a common problem with FIOS and PCS. There must be a port that needs to be opened in the router. I do not beleive it is anything to do with my antivirus software or Windows Defender as i uninstalled all and still not communication. Must be a port within the routter that is blocking tis communication. On my Itunes you can see that it does not see the Apple TV. Please advise.

I'd have to agree. I set my vms and two clients on Saturday in one hour. I think the picture is better I did not see an issue with the brightness. For the heck of it I recorded five channels at once to test it. I've also noticed when playing a recorded show on the client everything responds a lot quicker. So I am impressed and curious to see what new features come later.
    Kudos to verizon.

  • My apple tv is not working on the computer tab as it says to turn on homesharing and it is on

my apple tv says to turn on homesharing which it already is
i am unable to access the photos in the computer tab
    any suggestions
    thanks
i have restarted and returned on both computer and apple tv btw

After hours of trying to fix- finally found simple solution !
Go to the main computer(s) where you ahve your itunes program. This applies to PC Win7 in my case.
Upper left hand corner under 'File' See drop down menu where it says " Home Sharing'. If on turn it off , then go right back and turn it on- you will have to sign in with Apple ID and password.
    Then -this is the solution.
Go to your My computer on your PC - hit button for it to shows all your drives. Click on your main drive - usually 'C". It will show all the stuff on that drive.
Find where your Itunes program is - usually under "programs" Once you find Itunes , right click to get drop down menu- at bottom is "Properties" right click. another small windows comes up - click tab for sharing . If it says not shard - you will see a blue highlighed  " Advanced Sharing" click that to folow instructions to enable sharing.
Do that for any program you want to share with Apple TV.
If they are not set to "Share" Apple Tv will not work for Home Sharing.
Once all programs involved with Ituenes etc are set to shared . Then go to Apple TV. back to Home Sharing and everything should show up.
Mine did and it was a simple fix.
    Good Luck

  • HT202213 ITunes and homesharing and apple tv on iMac G5

followed all instructions and the appletv connects, says it is reading the library then fails.  also, there is no homesharing item in the left tree on itunes.  homesharing is on and logged in though.

try if connecting TV and iMac with an ethernet cable helps. alternatively, hardwire TV to your router.

  • Apple TV won't recognize HomeSharing and no AirPlay on iPad

Hey, I bought an Apple TV and I just can't set it up. My Mac,iPad2 and Apple TV are all on the same network. HomeSharing is turned on both on my Mac and PC's but Apple TV won't see it. It's on version 5.0 and the iPad on version 5.0.1 but no AirPlay button, no idea why.
    Any ideas?

This usually indicates a network issue.

  • I cannot homeshare and lost all my music, amongst other issues

Firstly I have a new laptop, and when I tried homesharing it would not let me sync to my new library unless I erased and synced purchases. As a result, I lost most of my music. Also, I have bought a film and a series from the itunes store, but only half the series seems to have downloaded and there is a weird blue dot on the left of half the series and the film, niether the film or series will sync to my ipod, so it appears that I have lost my money if it won't work :\ Any help ?

    You said:
    I had a song list of 272.
Where were the songs? On iPod
    they re-fused to work.
What do you mean by work?
iTunes said it had all my songs,
iTunes on the computer? Had them where?
Had you previously synced from this iTunes library before?
Which method of syncing did you use? Auto or manual?
