Host computer VI deploying to cRIO controller

When I include a Network-Published Shared Variable in my Host VI, the VI wants to deploy to my cRIO.  Without the Network-Published Shared Variable it runs on the Host computer as intended.
Yes, the Host VI in under My Computer and the RT VI is under the target in the LabVIEW Project.
How do I use a shared variable in a VI inteded to run on the Host computer?  I need to pass data between my RT VI running on the cRIO and a Host VI running on a Host Windows machine.

Hello Shall12,
I misinterpreted your initial posts- this option needs to be modified for the target on which the variables are deployed.  Based on your screen capture, the library is contained on the RIO and will need to be modified there.  The behavior you're seeing is described in more detail here:

  • Log data on the host computer using cRIO-9035

Is it possible for me to log data on the host computer opposed to on the controller itself? I'm needing to log quite a bit of data and I'm not wanting to use my storage on the cRIO. I'm using scan mode on the controller.
    Thanks

Lots of ways to do this. You can write a datalogger to run on the PC, to read shared variables hosted on controller and  write them to a file. There is also the DSC module for logging hundreds to thousands of shared variables to a database, if you need that.

  • Multiple FPGA targets under one cRIO controller

    Hi !
I was reading the cRIO System Configuration Information (CRI) Reference Library article (http://www.ni.com/example/51852/en/) and there Figure 9 shows a cRIO Controller with multiple FPGA targets. How can this be accomplished?
In my case, when I tried to add a 2nd FPGA target, under my cRIO-9076, I get a message that only one can be associated with the controller.
    Any ideas ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The CRI Library claims support back to LabVIEW 8.5.1, which leads me to believe this screenshot was taken in that version. The RIO Scan Interface/FPGA Scan Engine (RSI) were introduced in LabVIEW 8.6 and NI-RIO 3.0.x. In order to include this support, the notion of a chassis in the LV project was introduced (notice there is no chassis under the controller in the screenshot). To better facilitate RSI and the Scan Engine and provide a more accurate representation of what is actually available in a system, you can only add one chassis per controller. This allows the RSI to load the correct controllers for deployment.
In LV 8.5.1, you can add multiple targets to an integrated controller/FPGA system (like the cRIO-9072) even though there is no way that could happen in real life, so this isn't really that desirable. What you can still do is add multiple FPGA targets (even from cRIO chassis) under the My Computer target in your project. This will still allow you to communicate with the FPGA target, but any VIs will be running on your PC system, not the cRIO controller.

  • Can't get Target Disk Mode to work with host computer

Here's the problem. My Powerbook G4 went down a week ago (it's 7 years old) and I suspect the problem is either the hard drive or the portion of the logic board controlling the drive. I also have a Power Mac G4 400 that's running OS 10.4 Tiger. I've been trying to extract some files (that I failed to back up) from the Powerbook via Target Disk Mode using the older Power Mac as the host, however the target disk doesn't show up on the host screen. When I boot up the Powerbook holding the T key, it chimes and the FireWire symbol shows up like it's suppose to, but that's as far as goes. I plan on upgrading to a newer Mac, which would probably work better as a host, but money is a bit tight right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the trouble with the Powerbook is either a failed hard drive or a failed hard drive controller, FireWire Target Disk Mode isn't likely to work with any host computer. What you may want to try is installing data recovery software on the desktop G4 and seeing whether it can see the Powerbook's drive (connected in FWTDM) even though it won't mount. Data recovery software is often able to salvage data from drives that won't mount normally; it may be able to do the same thing via FWTDM.
These three DR utilities are all available in free downloadable demo versions that will show you what the full version would be able to recover before you have to pay for anything:
    Data Rescue
    FileSalvage
    VirtualLab
    Good luck.

  • Deploying to cRIO seems to work, but actually doesn't

When I deploy my cRIO application, all indications are that the deployment is successful, but when I reboot the cRIO, the old version runs; the new one didn't actually download.
    1. Compile the FPGA VI.
    2. Right-click on the RT build specification and select Build.
    3. Reboot the cRIO with the NO APP switch moved to the left (i.e. don't run the startup VI).
    4. Right-click on the cRIO icon and select Connect.
    5. Right-click on the RT build specification and select Deploy.
    6. Move the NO APP switch to the right (i.e. run the startup VI).
    7. The old version runs.
I know the new RT and FPGA VIs actually compiled correctly- I can run them on my development machine.
    Anyone have any insight?
    Thanks,
    -Ron

More news: I can ftp the files (startup.rtexe and startup.aliases) to the ni-rt/startup directory on the cRIO. When I reboot, the correct version runs. Assuming this procedure actually works and not some sort of time bomb, this issue is now only mildly critical- "just a routine emergency" as Ted Knight said in Caddyshack.
I'm running LabVIEW 8.5 under Windows XP. The controller is an NI-cRIO-9014. The chassis is a cRIO-9104.

  • Can i use home sharing when host computer is off

No, you can only home share from a computer if the computer is on and iTunes is running on the computer.

  • Setting up TV@nywherer, streaming from host computer to a second computer on LAN

Followed everthing in the manual and it is not working.
1  set to "no proxy", I think I need to since I did not use "proxy" in Internet Exporer\tools\internet options\connections\LAN settings...
2  I got the "server busy" message box on the "stream in" (second)computer with the message "server has rejected your request".
Can anyone with a successful setup give me more information on set up TV streaming from the host computer to a second computer?
    Thanks

I guess it's how you interpret the manual. The manual lists what is needed. It explicitely mentions both the tuner and MSIPVS for the host server, but only lists MSIPVS for the remote station. It may have been an error that the tuner was not mentioned.
I have been trying to figure out why you would need the tuner for the remote station.
    1. You probably can't install a second copy of MSIPVS in a second computer without a tuner without contravening the copyright law?
    2. The software won't install correctly without the tuner? As part of the install, the program checks for a tuner card, doesn't find one, generates error message, continues install. Since I could never get the two programs to work, I could never tell if the install error was a warning that I needed the card. If it is why bother to continue the install?
    3. The card is used to decode the stream in? I guess that would depend on what the stream in was. If it was an MPEG stream, would the on board decoder be required to decode the stream?
    4. What use could be made of a home based setup if a tuner card was required in each home pc? I mean, if I had to put a tuner card in every PC, why bother streaming and incurring the overhead, all I have to do is make a cable connection to each PC. But it would be a definite benefit if I could put a card in a single PC and stream the TV signal to other PCs running MSIPVS with out requiring a tuner in each PC.
The manual isn't too clear. The example host sites in the manual and installed with MSIPVS don't work. I can't delete them. But they do suggest that maybe MSI was thinking that people would install the cards commercially and stream to customers. On second thought, that doesn't make sense, because there is one host, one host stream to one remote stations (that has controll of the tuner remotely), that would not be efficient in a commercial service offering.
I know I'm missing something here. A good start to understanding this would be if your test showed that you can still receive a stream in at the remote station, without the card.

  • Scanner Sharing Only Working With a User Logged Into Host Computer

I have been able to get my Brother MFC7020 to work perfectly with the network. I have gotten the scanning to work over the sharing system as well but with a weird glitch. I must have a user logged into the host computer in order for the shared scanner to appear in Image Capture. If I log out of the host computer, the scanner disappears. I have double checked my settings, I have locked the preference pane, and I still have this issue. For some reason when the host computer is idle at the login window I cannot access the shared scanner. Printing usually works however.
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on all machines in the network and the host is a mini.

Probably because the process is set up as a launch agent instead of a launch daemon. Agents launch when somebody logs in. Daemons can run when the system starts up or when someone logs in. You could try moving the plist (which is probably in /Library/LaunchAgents) to the /Library/LaunchDaemons folder and see what happens. But, if it is not designed to run in that environment, it won't work right.
The plist should have a name like com.brother.something.plist. You will need to restart to get it to register correctly.

  • Crawl issue - warning: "This URL is part of a host header SharePoint deployment and the search application is not configured to crawl individual host header sites. This will be crawled as a part of ....a start address"

    Hello all,
I have a multi-tenant environment in SharePoint 2010 server. Different tenants are hosted by one web app.
One content source has been created to crawl the all shared environment. (the only URL added in the content source settings = URL of the
     web app)
Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address has been selected when creating this content source.
Now I have created a new tenant hosted by the same web app. For this new tenant I want to have a different crawl schedule. Simple , I just create a new content source and add the host URL of this tenant. With the same settings has the other content source.
After having started a full crawl I get 0 success and 1 warning : “This URL is part of a host header SharePoint deployment and the search application is not configured to crawl
individual host header sites. This will be crawled as a part of the host header Web application if configured as a start address.”
The first content source is well crawling the new tenant freshly created. Could you tell me where I’m wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Baldo

    Baldo,
In the configuration that you described you now have 2 content sources set to crawl the same content. If you have a content source with a start address of http://servername/ then it is going to crawl everything past that address. If you are now changing
the crawl schedule based on the individual site collections, you will need to move your start addresses further down the URL.
    For Example:
    1st Content Source:
http://servername/ as a start address would now become
    http://servername/site1
    http://servername/site2
    2nd Content Source:
    http://servername/site3
Also remember that all crawling must happen on the default zone. If you are trying to crawl a zone that the web application has been extended into, that will not work.

  • May a recent i Mac be installed as the host computer for a wireless community

May a recent iMac be installed as the Host Computer for a wireless community. The present situation is; the iMac is subservient to the e Mac. I do not want to have two computers. I have one guest on the wireless.

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

  • Why must I reset sharing password every time host computer is shut down?

Using 10.7.5 on iMac desktop. Sharing Internet via Airport card. Every time the host computer is powered down the sharing password must be reset. Have tried using both security settings offered with same result.

Have you disabled hardware acceleration? (not solved by reset is usual)
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]

  • Bug-Report: Hyper-V - VM shutdown process hangs after unmount ISO file on host computer

    Hello Microsoft team,
my HYPER-V VM hangs after I did follow things:
First I mount an ISO file into my Windows 8.1 Enterprise host (e.g. drive letter X:)
Now I mount X: into my VM (gen. 1)
Then I lost connection to X: on my host (e.g. unmount X: on my host computer)
Now when I shutdown my VM, it will be hangs.
I reproduced this on three computers with windows 8.1.
    Thanks for help and feedback,
    Gunnar

    Hello Gunnar,
What do you mean about the sentence ‘mount X: into my VM (gen. 1)’?
If I mount the Windows 8.1 ISO to drive H:, and then try to install the VM gen 1, it has no issues.
If I just install the VM gen1 by using the Windows 8.1 ISO that have been mounted to drive H:, I still can’t find the issue.

  • Unable to see PXIe-8133 in MAX on host computer

    Hi,
I seem to be running into a very basic problem. I'm trying to use the PXIe-8133 system in Real-Time but I am unable to detect the system in MAX. I can't even see an "Unconfigured RT System" with IP Address of 0.0.0.0 as it shows in the documentation. I've installed all of the drivers for the PXIe 8133 on my host computer found here:
http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2030/lang/en, but this has not solved the problem.
One thing to note, when I attach a monitor to the PXIe-8133, it says: "System State: No Software Installed" and also "Can't Find Suitable Device for Drive C". But only one of our 2 PXIe-8133's is displaying this and we are not able to see the PXIe-8133 system in MAX even in the system which does not display these warning messages.
Thanks very much in advance for your help!
    Steven

    Hey Steven,
So a couple things to make sure of:
    1. Reboot your PXI and when it is rebooting up keep hitting the delete key until you see an output on your screen that gives you different options to select.
    2. Go over to Real Time menu (think it is like the fourth option from the left on the top).
    3. Once in here the first option is what mode of Real-Time do you want to access. Select LabVIEW Real-Time Safe Mode.
    4. Go to the last menu option and save changes. This will reboot into the mode we just set.
Once it is rebooted, go into MAX on your computer that is on the same subnet as this PXI and refresh remote systems. You should now see a device with an IP address of 0.0.0.0. Make the changes to the IP address that you want. Once you save those changes it will reboot the PXI. If you are still not able to get the target showing, try to go back into the bios and there is also another option to choose under the Real-Time heading to reset IP by hardware switch, software or none. Change that to software. Save again and then it will reboot and see if you can now see it in MAX and make the corresponding IP changes.
