Host operating system was experiencing significant paging

Hello,
I have a problem with many times discussing problem "Host operating system was experiencing significant paging but no particular root cause could be detected. Investigate processes that do not belong to this instance running on the host that are consuming significant amount of virtual memory. Also consider adding more physical memory to the host."
My database run on Windows Server 2008 R2 and have 12GB of physical RAM.
Oracle version is 10.2.0.4.0 and my sga and pga are:
sga_max_size 4000M
sga_target 3904M
pga 1200M
I try to find out something about this issue and read many blogs but unfortunately I didnt find anything which helped. Should this have something to do with the fact that on the server we have oracle database and terminal server with 30-40 users?
Any advice?
Thank you
Martin

I tried to get some information from ProcessExplorer but I didnt find anything that can cause this issue... Oracle runs as threads. You should be looking at the oracle.exe process and its threads, the size of Vmem, and the number of soft and hard page faults errors per thread.
This should tell you whether there is a page swapping issue for Oracle processing, and identify the threads experiencing the problem. With the threads identified, the associated Oracle v$process and v$session can be identified and analysed.
Could this paging fault make slowdown database? Page swapping can make any process slow.
I mean when users try to insert, update or delete data from tables, response of database is slow, sometimes in few seconds - in Oracle Database 9i we doesnt have this problems...Invalid comparison. Not the same database (physically). Not the same database software. Not the same anything.
Saying that a 9i database was fast and a 11g database is not, is like saying the old green car was fast and the new car, also green, should therefore also be fast.

Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

When you reboot, use Setup Assistant to restore your data.

  • Abobe Elements 12 thinking that my operating system was good.  I just upgraded to Mavericks - but in installing Elements - I learn I need 10.7.0 or higher.  Do I have an option now?

I purchased Adobe Elements 12 thinking that my operating system was good.  I'm not all that familiar with Apple Operating Systems yet.  A bit confusing with Lion, Mavericks and OS vxx.x.xx - I know I upgratede to Mavericks - but I evidently need 10.7.0 or higher so ... I figured if my OS was up-to-date ... but really, Apple has three different operating systems and software only works with some of it?  I think I'm confused
Do I have an option now?  The photo editing software seems to work but the Photo Organizing portion doesn't even open.

    Mavericks = OS 10.9,
    Mountain Lion = OS 10.8,
    Lion = OS 10.7
So what you have is higher than 10.7.0 and Adobe Elements 12 should be happy.
If some part of AE 12 is not working, that should be sorted out with Adobe.

  • Access SOA suite installed on VM via the host operating system

    Hello All,
Is it possible to create connection to SOA Servers/Domain/WLS which are part of VM from the Host machine on which VM is running.
If yes , how do I configure the same.
    thanks

Yes, but it depends on how you have configured the network of you VM, e.g. bridge, dhcp, NAT.
If you want to to remain constant every time you start the VM, NAT is the only option. This means that the IP address of your VM is always the same.
By default it uses DHCP. Not sure what you are wanting to do but if you want to make a basic connection find the IP address of your VM
    ipconfig (windows)
    ifconfig (linux)
then from the host machine you can gain access
    http://ipaddress:port/console
if you want to deploy you may get errors due to HTTP connections. To fix this you need to set the internal and external host in the Admin Console. Login to the console and go to I think preferences -> advanced and you should see an entry for external listening host and internal listening host. set this to the ipaddress. If dhcp you will need to chnage every time.
    cheers
    James

  • Changing to a different operating system was rejected by Adobe (...there is no option available to swap the platform from windows to MAC). Is there any solution?

Although this possibility still existed and Adobe here (Order product | Platform, language swap) states that one can. Was rejected. Any advice?

Platform swaps are limited to the most recent released version only.

  • AROS - An operation system inside Android

A rather unkown operating system is AROS - the AROS Research Operating System. It is a free operating system based on AmigaOS 3.1 and is designed to be sourcecode-compatible to Amiga programs. It is available for many platforms, native ones (x86, PPC, ARM) and hosted versions which uses the drivers of the host operation system (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android).
The installation is very simple: Download the Android version of AROS, unpack the AROS folder to your SD-card or internal memory, and install the AROS.apk bootstrap. Open the App and the OS is loaded in a few seconds. The Android device has not to be rooted.
The idea is very good: You have a full window-based operating system, with unlimited virtual screens. It also has an awesome DOS and a special programming language, ARexx, which allows interaction between programs. Because it is a full operating system, it is not limited to restrictions which have to ge made in Apps, f.e. complex graphical interfaces which requires windows. It's also very leightweight, so it even works very fast on old smartphones. AROS runs idependent from Android, but it uses the system and the SD-card is shared, so it's easy to exchange data. Disk images like for virtual machines are unneccessary.
Unfortunately, the AROS scene is not too big, and the highest focus is on the x86 version. Icaros Desktop is a very big distribution now. So there are only a very programs for ARM/Android, and some of them are not very stable or not completely fixed to the Android environment. But maybe it'll be interesting for some people to work on an OS which would enhance Android more than every single-purpose-App. If there will be good software, it could make it more interesting for lots of Android users.
Some links are following later, the copy/paste function doesn't work so good on the tablet. On YouTube are some AROS / Android videos.
    Greets, Naquaada.
What's DOS? Fun Fun Fun Fun!

Well, the main problem are the drivers.
I just made an Icaros Desktop 1.5.2 installation on my Thinkpad A31p, AC97 Audio, USB, Intel LAN, Atheros 5000 WLAN and Ultrabay Floppy are working. The weird ATI Mobility FireGL 7800 can only be used in VESA modes, so there's no 2D/3D acceleration, but this is not too neccessary. Ultrabay IDE is detected (f.e. LS-240) but can't be configured in HDToolBox. On my Thinkpad X61t Intel X3100 is supported native, but no 3D acceleration and no Intel HD sound, although the device is recognized properly.
AROS boots rather fast, about 20 seconds on the A31p. It uses GRUB 2 as bootloader, which makes it compatible to multiple OS types. Unlike Linux it has no read/write permissions, this makes it easy to make changes from the bootloader without root or else. And because it boots so fast, it's possible to make changes to the bootloader in less than a minute after powering on the A31p. It's also very easy to backup the bootloader: Make a copy of the boot/grub directory, if something wents wrong just boot from the Icaros Desktop Live DVD and replace the faulty one with the backup.
I'm not coding myself, today's programming methods are too complicated. First designing a GUI, preparing variables and labels, then maybe beginning with coding, after this a debugger, then compiler... it needs hours until you can test your program. I'm a classic programmer, Commodore BASIC, AmigaDOS scripts, ARexx, MS-DOS Batch and a bit AppleScript. I prefer a ?RETURN WITHOUT GOSUB ERROR IN 340 and manual searching for the error as waiting until the computer 'allows' me to start the program. AmigaDOS (which is also used in AROS and MorphOS) is extremely powerful, my Amiga 1200 booted in 26 seconds, including free selectable Bootpicture and Boot-MP3, only used by optimized AmigaDOS programming. And the A1200 has 50 MHz and a IDE controller with 3.5 MB/s !

Sorry, there are no Lenovo tablets with AROS on YouTube yet. But it is far from working good at all, even the preferences programs are crashing sometimes. The x86 version is working best, and there's also a lot of software. It also exists a NTFS driver, although the writing-capatibility was disabled for safety reasons. The Webbbrowser OWB is very fast and fully ACID3-compliant. Of course, there's no Flash, so it would be interesting to focus on mobile websites. A lot of Open-Source-Software is already available for AROS. Unfortunately, there are only a very few coders, and the Android version wasn't more than a test.
Maybe it'll be interesting for Lenovo, creating an additional operating system for Android tablets which is not fixed on Apps. AROS is not dependent from Microsoft or Google, it also hasn't to care about Linux kernel versions. The system is also virus-free and rather proof against hacking because it's not internet-dependent like all other todays's operation systems. The idea may sound weird, but Android is also just available since 2008 and started from zero. An Android-hosted version of AROS would have from the start a platform of millions of devices. It'll only be useful to supply software, so all AROS-x86 coded software has to be transferred to ARM processors. Because AROS was designed to be sourcecode-compatible to AmigaOS 3, it should be possible to get more software.

  • How can I best add, most easily use, another operating system like Whonix to my mac laptop?

I am hoping I can go to an added user. But I think I need to understand what Parallels are as that may be what I need to add.
    Thanks,
    J

A virtual machine software package is a hunk of software that presents itself as computing hardware to the guest operating system software.  The operating system software running as a guest within the virtual machine reads and writes memory and devices as it would do normally (when booted on physical hardware), and the virtual machine detects and translates these accesses and (hopefully) provides the responses expected by the guest operating system.  For input and output to the user or to storage or network devices, the virtual machine can be coded to potentially pass through the read and write access to real hardware and real hardware I/O registers, or the virtual machine might be coded to simulate hardware; what are called virtual devices.
This virtual machinary as differentiated from dual- or triple-booting via separate disks, or via Apple's shared-partition Boot Camp software.  In these cases, the operating system is booting directly on the hardware involved.  Shut down and reboot to swap operating systems.
The Whonix distribution specifically targets privacy, and I'm not sure I'd want to run that as a guest, as the virtual machine or the host operating system that the virtual machine is running on probably doesn't have the same focus, and (if you're truely paranoid) might well report the presence of at least the virtual machine via (even entirely innocent) bug reports or crashes or such.  This configuration might work as might dual-booting into Whonix via Boot Camp, though whether these configurations might leak information would have to be verified.
It'd probably be best to check with the Whonix folks directly around what they recommend, what's been tested, and what to look out for.  In cases such as this one, having, knowing, operating and maintaining the configuration properly is key, and that discussion is far beyond what's usual here in the Apple forums.

  • Itunes Issues after operating system reinstall

After having weeks of airport issues, the Genius Bar folks decided that reinstalling my operating system was the only opin to fix what they think is a software issue.  After restoring all my data using my last backup and doing all software updates again, I am getting an error when trying to open itunes - 'the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.  Would you like to download itunes now?.  The two oprions I am given are 'quit' and 'download itunes'.  If I chose to download itunes it tells my there are no updates!  I have also plugged my ipod into my laptop and it doesn't recognize it.  What should I do??  I am totally lost.  When I ran the updates last night it showed itunes updating, so I am unclear as to why it isn't even opening.  Thanks for any help.
