How do I close out a discussion

Question

The "Window of Opportunity" for putting an end to a discussion seems very small. I see it from time to time, but not when I need it. Anyway, there are too many discussions that I began that are still open, even though they have been satisfactority concluded. How do I add that little green checkmark that says, "This solved my question?"?

The checkmarks are usually around for at least several months in my experience.  Apple doens't seem to have a simple policy as regards to discussion activity timing.  In some forums it appears to be a few months, on others it can be a year or more.  Even then I recall with a deactivated discussion the original poster gets one last word.  I have cleaned up some of my questions several years old (which never got a real answer).
